Just additional piece of hardware to worry about? Not a really improvement. (Unless they wanted to compete DJI? lol). 8. Absolutely better in low light recording. 9. 40MP photo mode 10. friendlier to use, (easier to connect to the app, to download the footages, photos) 11. Better accessories 12. I agree, DJI Osmo Action is the way to go, I have found so many problems with the GoPro. But the GoPro's Marketing is definitely much better and radical. haha
Both of them have very good video quality, all these action cameras do a great these days. I skipped the Hero 13 and ordered the Action 5 Pro. Sometimes it the little things that matter with a camera. Great testing Shawn, thanks for sharing.
Very informative and well stated video. I got rid of my GoPro's a few years back and switched to DJI Action and am very happy I did. I find the DJI Action camera much easier to use. I should have my Action 5 Monday and can't wait to play with it. Thanks for your video.
Hi Shawn, so far I'm loving my action 5 pro and glad I've made the change after 18 years of GoPro. One area GoPro does excell is in its range of mounts. DJI need to have more options. They also need to offer spares in general as it frustrates me that I can't buy the smaller magnetic mount that comes in the adventure combo separately.
Thanks for sharing your experience. Yeah I always found it. Strange that they didn’t offer the smaller magnetic mount. Would be nice if they did add that as an option.
Agreed! I’m an amateur motovlogger and used GoPro Hero from 7 through 10. Eventually the reliability and audio issues with GoPro caused me so much frustration that I stopped filming for several months. I switched to DJI Action earlier this year for a motorcycle tour to Switzerland and Italy in Summer and the reliability of the DJI Action has rejuvenated my passion for motovlogging.
after your last video i went out same evening to grab the A5 pro and i since sold all my other action cams. dynamic range is from another planet! i did many tests in car and on bike with serious difficult lightning situations. i will NEVER use gopro again in my life.

6:30 had to rewatch this multiple times where you just point it straight to the river and trees. Even if DJI is superior at night, I find GoPro footage to be a bit cleaner, more detailed and overall more pleasing to look at with its vibrant colour profile straight out of camera in a bright daylight. However, the choice is tough this year, seems like people are leaning more towards DJI or Ace Pro, but I think GoPro still has its strengths given the right lighting conditions.
DJI still havent manage to avoid fog and condensation when been in the water or in wet conditions between main and front lens. Gopro have with the two latest models get rid of heating problems in normal conditions. DJI are better in low light. Gopro better app and extra equipment and much better conecting fore monopod/selfistic etc.
Started to work with the Action 5 after being on Gopro forever, with the lower bitrate, the quality of the image doesn't seem as good as the Gopro sadly, I've been experiencing bugs too with the Horizon Leveling, you can see when the software is at his maximum and the image start to bump and bug sadly
I bought the Insta360 X3 as a successor of my Hero 7 because this cam was recommended in YT as a very good action cam. Finally, the X3 is very bad as an action cam, but good as a 3D cam to make family movies etc. And I replaced my Hero 7 with a Gopro 13, and am very happy with it as an action cam.
@@_Rol_ yeah I tried the Max and X2 and hate the 360 perspective, I was looking at the 13 but Gopro because so anti-consumer with the year…if you get into the ecosystem, all good, if you wanna upgrade..no accessories or batteries fit this year, gotta rebuy everything
This video comes in handy so much right now! Thanks! I feel really ashamed pulling out my M50 to vlog (truly regret selling the Canon G7X 😩) I’ve been doing my research to buy an action camera for vlogging since they are truly small and compact. The information on this video makes a world of a difference. Please make a video comparing the Action 4 & 5.
Great comparison video. Found it useful for me, who has not purchased an action camera before. Was curious about your comments about GoPro instability near the end of the video: was that based on your experience with the GoPro Hero 13 or with older GoPros in general?
Just go pros in general, including last year’s model. It’s too early to tell with the 13. I have not had any freeze ups as of yet and the two weeks I’ve been using it.
I have been using GoPro since Hero 3 and the only times it freezes up has been with after market batteries and micro sd cards too slow or micro sd cards old and just need to go into the garbage bin. The Action 5 looks like a nice product
A bigger sensor in the action 5 would of been a sale for me, but as someone who has the action 4 I'm happy with what I have, and i don't see enough in this release to make it worth the upgrade, which is a disappointment, because I really did want that bigger sensor, I'm really surprised they didn't do it, because that was going to be a definitive reason a lot of people bought or not, at least it was for me. The super night mode interests me, but it also seems less detailed then the action 4 (Loss of some textures.) Thanks for the video, i feel you did a good job showing the comparisons.
Finally a video on the bike. Cool comparison don't you guys get freaked out by the artifacts on the DJI ? It looks terrible little detail when cycling. Is it the fault of this low bitrate ? Thank you for this video.
I just bought yesterday dji 5pro advernture combo and i am waiting for firmware update...i am so dissapointed with super night mode...is so pixelated and oversharpened...looks so artificial...the normal mode looks waaay better...i got my first dji action for that "low light" capabilities because i am doing street fishing in the city at night...i hope they will do better with updates...or i will never be fooled by dji marketing. Ps. Also i have overheating problem in that super night mode at 18°C outside...
Night mode needs to push up the light so it pushes the iso so it adds noise so to reduce noise it smoothens the image so it becomes blurry pixelated its loosing rwsolituin and details but its overally instantly stabilised and ready to use. Otherwise use manual without IS (iso 800-3200) and stabilize post in gyroflow. Dont need to thank 🖐
Both look good in daylight, as expected. But the Action 5 is incredible at night! How did you get the jitters to be so minimal? Higher shutter speed? Did you have on super night? Also is the GoPro 13 the same sensor as the 12?
I just replaced my Action4 after getting it wet, and accidentally leaving the USB door ajar. I started hearing about the Action5 a few weeks after, but I wasn't sure if I should have jumped on without knowing about the battery situation. I didn't chance it and bought the Action4 a month ago. Now, hearing the battery is backward compatible, I'm kicking myself.

The GoPro Hero 13 also comes in the creators edition that includes the flash. Do you happen to have that flash? I’m wondering would it make the image comparable to the Action 5 during low light setting?
