Yes, I agree. Much rather here the waves. Soothing. Makes me wish I was there. The smell of the ocean and the sound of the waves. It doesn’t get much better than that!
This clip just reminded me of a session I had just before dark at Balangan on the last day of the 2011 Padang comp. It wasn't as big as this but for sure I got the biggest wave of my life (I'm no big wave fiend but it felt plenty big enough for me!). What a rush and yes, I'd say Balangan breaks better when bigger. Cheers!
Been there done that ..day after day after day . On one of the heaviest rights in Bali. My point was they edit a lot of what happens pre and post wave . This vid didn't . cool shit.
Waves like this always look easy on the screen. But getting caught inside can be a nonstop, heart-pounding, heavy breathing ass kickathon. Good to know the lineup and bottom, exit routes (if any), etc.
So true, I was surfing Ulawatu in July was close to passing out after getting caught inside and relentlessly duckdiving set after set... I run 3km every single day and I dare say if I wasn't as fit that could easily have been the end for me..
last dude cracked me up!! lies down pops back up sees some babes on the beach rips off his shirt then cruises all the way to the sand like an absolute boss
Oh trust me it's intimidating. That's 6-8 foot of raw Indian ocean energy out there. The paddle out is a nightmare and getting in is a life threatening ordeal if you miss time it. Sure it's fun when small but at this size, it's experts only
I love how the internet has given everyone with a couch and a keyboard big wave surf skills. Without a reliable rip you're gonna get power washed just getting to that line up, and if you actually watch the video, the only guy that can make the bigger waves from deep in the wave is Baaaaarely making them. Angling in when the swell is that fast with wind sucking up the face isn't easy. Is it immortal human late drop on the gnarliest wave ever hard? no, but it's not easy either.
Oh c'mon that is not a hard drop whatsoever. The reason nobody is making it is because they're riding too short of a board or they're sitting too far out (granted they might be afraid of clean up sets), but these waves aren't breaking top to bottom on the outside .... only the shore break.
Alright, I'll bite. It's not that the wave is super critical, it's just the speed of the swell and the wind that makes it kinda hard to get out in front of. My point was more that I'd be surprised if 5% of the people who make shitty comments could actually surf the wave they're commenting on. My bad for feeding the trolls.
Wow... Macking Balangan... Heartfelt respect to anyone out there. She is an elusive beast even on the smaller days.... If you get one that is makable... The Gods are smiling on you.
That interval is pumping. Without a rip to help you out - that's a paddle. Looks fun, but my old ass would have a hard time making it out to the lineup...
Tudo que eu queria era cair num dia de mar assim , perfeito ainda mais se fosse um lindo dia de verão , nossa seria a coisa mais maneira que podesse acontecer... Salve salve !!! Viva o bodyboard !!! Aloha !!! Valeu shock tamo junto... Uhuuuuuu !!!
Jeffrey Aufiero... that was exactly my question bro'...he was in the perfect place at the right time...he could have had 6 seconds in the green room...what a waste..
All these guys with the longer boards are way more fluid and smooth in the rides. Those potato chips are just bouncing all over the faces. This waves screams 9+ foot gun...
love that there is no music. just the sound of the waves. nice!
Very nice! Sounds of the sea! Amazing!
I had same comment on another vid. I agree

Lastwave is just so smoothhhh nice way to make it
💯!!
Pure unedited good footage . Thank you . Its nice once in a while to see what happens after someone wipes out. cool !!
Dave Schleifer you go under the water for a few seconds twisting and turning then you resurface grab your board and paddle back out. Hope this helps?

from memory you have to wait and get pushed out down the beach?

Man its pumping. I could fall asleep to this.
Looks kinda like a friendly wave, or am I way off?
Arnold Gia it is. It’s not so powerful
Looks like it was a high tide at Balangan .. its a lot heavier and hollow at lower tide. and a no exit down the line when its really low.
Yeah, looks like a really easy drop and not steep at all. Looks like a fun wave to just practice making turns and have fun.
Its high tide made the wave more easier than it look
Looks like Balangan at high tide on a big day is when to go haha
and the prize for the coolest exit ever goes to the last guy . Talk about is this my home break or what????
Think that's my friend Mega from Balangan surf school.. Awesome guy to ride and drink some bingtang with.
Like an absolute Boss.
A total dream condition.....
My home for years 🙏
Looks like a heavier day at maybe Lowers, but I'm sure it's plenty heavy once you take one on the head.
always looks easier from da beach!!!!!!!!!
Chris Wilson Especially this break!
This looks like a fun paddle out
Can i find a wave like this in thailand??
I'm pretty sure you won't find waves like this in Thailand.
Youll be very unlucky if this going to happend in Thailand.
I don’t see a lot of boogie boards and reason why? Thanks
Wow this looks fun. Plenty of size but nice easy slopes and open faces, not too intimidating.
Oh trust me it's intimidating. That's 6-8 foot of raw Indian ocean energy out there. The paddle out is a nightmare and getting in is a life threatening ordeal if you miss time it. Sure it's fun when small but at this size, it's experts only

....and you just proved your point!

Just cause people disagree with you doesn't mean they're trolls

Wow... Macking Balangan... Heartfelt respect to anyone out there. She is an elusive beast even on the smaller days.... If you get one that is makable... The Gods are smiling on you.
Yeah!! A place where you can get a ride of your life out a nowhere 👍❄️
Watching the videos from that day, I think balangan has the bigger sets.
Hypnotizing. Awesome.
That interval is pumping. Without a rip to help you out - that's a paddle. Looks fun, but my old ass would have a hard time making it out to the lineup...
Powerful waves 🔥
Looks like you could catch it easily enough, the offshore breeze is hitting it right...
It was too windy that day. Really skilled surfers could handle it most of the time but there were wipeouts too.
OMG OMG what a huge wave is coming never seen this before 😱 😱 😱
Almost drowned at Balangan on a day like that. Bloody miracle I didn't. Still rattled to this day.
Indeed sometimes the beauty of it clouds your eyes and puts you in situations you really aren't prepared for, I know all too well.

We found the perfect wave?

Brilliant camera work ... as always. However, I think I'll just sit on the beach ... watch & drink beer lol ;-)
