I remember hearing lots of critic about the surf ranch in California because the amount of water used to keep the pool working, specially located in the middle of farm land, in a state that has longer and longer drought years, built far from water sources. I don't know where this new wave pool is located in relation to water (I looked at google maps and it seems not to far from water), and how they have addressed the environmental impact of the facilities regarding water, renewable energy, and the environment. I do think it would be cool to be able to learn to surf in a pool since it's a more controlled environment, but just because it can be build does not mean it should be built. Hopefully kids and individual with low income have the chance to have access to such facilities and the employees building the facility and the ones running it they all receive living wages. Thank you for your posts they are cool and inspiring.
Bl@h blah blah. It takes over 872 gallons of water to produce a gallon of wine…. Millions of gallons to support golfing. You can’t shut the world down now. You have to wait until more people are perishing.
I’ve always thought wave pools could double as water back up facilities in extreme draughts, that’s what I’d be thinking about if I was an engineer making these things.
Than you kindly for your response, I think its super cool you can work "living your dream" cheers to that. Yeah, if the water has no weird chemicals to keep it "clean" I guess it could work as a backup water source, It must be a huge challenge to avoid the loss by evaporation.@@DylanGravesYT

Not too impressed. Its a machine made perfect barrel. If you had the time you'd be in there as long as you've been alive. It's cool but a real wave is not forgiving and most are constantly changing. We're not cool enough to ever try one of his pools!
I fantasize about adding air sections to the wave by securing artificial reef obsticles to the floor of the basin. Underwater obsticles, temporarily configured to create a "slopestyle" or "street league" wave. Or at least a jumping off point so people can catch the end of the wave when the barrel eats the surfer. When are people going to be able to stand on the "sandbar" and watch surfing while kids are tubing around in that Lazy River in the foreground? So much arena needs to built around this basin. Really enjoyed the music.
It looks like exactly the same wave as the surf ranch but like six inches bigger maybe. To me, not that exciting to be honest. The UAE also sucks big time, but I guess surfers are too chill to care about foreign workers being abused.
💯. All very disingenuous being a ‘climate change’ warrior while celebrating building a man made wave in a man made city in the desert that houses a ski field in a mall. Let’s be honest, everyone is self serving and their lives are filled with hypocrisy. Still, I’d love to surf the wave but this place is a complete shit hole. The WSL will be salivating hosting a contest here and then have clips of the surfers planting shrubs in the sand saying ‘we’re doing our part to make the UAE more sustainable’ 😅

I can't see any use for this thing except as a tour stop for sports washing an area oppressive to human rights. Because humans are not built to tolerate that type of heat and sun without fully protective garments, like they traditionally wear in such areas. it certainly has no local income to support operations . I'm still shaking from the nerves !!! I love your style. By the way, that wave under the sun, and the water colour is a dream come true.
💯 wasn’t sure I’d get any more waves! Wanted to make em count
I recommend marijuana cigarettes for those nerves of yours bro
You must be fun at parties....
@@gus931 sure, be responsible is not a option for you
Than you kindly for your response, I think its super cool you can work "living your dream" cheers to that.
Yeah, if the water has no weird chemicals to keep it "clean" I guess it could work as a backup water source, It must be a huge challenge to avoid the loss by evaporation.@@DylanGravesYT
biggest man made wave, ever..perfection. who needs trestles or the bu?
Technology in action & wow could you get a better wave form for surfing? Impressive, Kelly!
Indeed!
Parabéns ficou top seu vídeo com a lenda Kelly, sucesso em seu canal👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank u ! Was an epic trip/ session 💯 one I will remember always
Money talks.
Make Surfing Counter Culture Again *sigh*
Im down on that, but I think things like this only create more space in the surf universe on either side of the culture
yawn....
just elitist snobbery bullshit.
@@DylanGravesYT how about womans rights, hopfully steph made it out safe
@@DylanGravesYT insensitive people will never be granted friendship by the ocean. so mechanical waves might be best for such folks. like baby steps are needed before one can walk.
@@markvalentine7264Speaking of womens rights, funny how how every so often I'll hear about "locals" roughing up out of town female surfers, and then the surf community celebrating it as "keeping the kooks out"
I wanna see Hector and Burger on these waves! And of course your Keg Brother Brain Tooth!
This is so cool! Funny thing, I learned how to surf in Dubai back in 2012. Everyone that I’m still in contact with his absolutely stoked that this place exist. I can’t wait to visit my friends and join them in the pool. 🙌🏼🤘🏼
Wow no way, epic ! I spoken to a few people from the area that are pumped ! How could u not be I guess lol 😂
Dylan i play power ball so that if I hit it I could build one of these Kelly waves close to the Ruins on the way to Wildos one can dream,,,, but u my friend u live the dream!!! Thanks again for a killer video... tu amigo el cartero.
Jajajaj yeah Dani 💯 bro I would do the same !!! Jajaja espero que todo esta bien bro! Vengo con la familia a PR en enero, espero que podemos jangear y coger pa’l de olas yewwww
Kelly has spent more time in the barrel than i have been alive.
Not too impressed. Its a machine made perfect barrel. If you had the time you'd be in there as long as you've been alive. It's cool but a real wave is not forgiving and most are constantly changing. We're not cool enough to ever try one of his pools!
Yeeew! I was there shooting on day 2, have some insane shots of Kelly in the tube. Bummed I missed your waves bro. Amazing place isn’t it
No way ! Bummed I missed that day and hanging w everyone, looked insane 🍻
Man it was dope. Toledo, Medina & Marks absolutely carving, and so sick to see Jeremy & Steph ripping. Next time hey!
@@laybackvisuals i bet ! Yeah would love to go back 💯👊
Rad Dylan! Love the tunes… so do you officially hold the first layback barrel in the pool?
Yeah George, thanks man :) idk I guess I do ! Haha 😂 hope ur well 👊
DOOD THATS THE COOLEST THING IVER EVER SEEN WELL DONE BRUH
I find all this absurd and it's not SURFING, surfing is discovering something that is never the same, this is equal to a football match.
Wave pools keep getting better KS ! And those folks are really stoked now they have a new sport of kings! speechless!
That's awesome!
Me too man, love all this and seems like so many different ways to achieve this and maximize the effort/money space …
Stop imposing your white people thought/ideas /culture on others.
Stop being a cultural imperialist.
You need to bow to your overlords
Very boring to watch, absolute yawn fest but to surf it would be an absolute dream every surfer must want to come true
Do you want some cheese with that whine?
Man great Awesome im stoked¡
Wow !! Absolutely the raddest random thing ever . I’m randomly in Abu Dabai and thought I’d try to text Kelly Slater again . Bingo !! On Kelly’s board even !! Gets to surf the pool on the first day !! WHAT ?? Dude you are legend .
Hahaha thank u! My feelings exactly!!! Still trippin out that this happened !!!
Yeah Dylan !! Stoked for ya' !!
🍻
Bucket list for sure makes me want to surf again it’s been 23 years I’m ready to hit that 🤘🏻💯🔥wonder how much it is to fly with a 6”6 board I’m going to find out I can’t stop thinking about it that’s really awesome do they rent boards too it’s like Huntington Beach break keeps going so perfect 🤩
but, it's not surf
Sick video
Just what the surfing community needed. Suadis getting into surfing.
If everybody had an ocean …
That’s exactly what I was thinking. Thanks GOAT. 👎
Morron, check your geography Abu Dhabi is in the UAE, not Kingdom of Saudi!!
@@sotbinki9433 *moron* with one R. The point OP was likely making was that the surfing community doesn’t need Middle East royal families in the lineup. Your average Emirate or Saudi would be just like us & cool. But that’s not who will be using that park.
@@sotbinki9433 you might choose to think a bit deeper before calling names. Abu Dhabi functions as a buffer to isolate the kingdom of Saud from "western infidels" . the two locations are very linked , in ways not shown on the map. when I was there, women dressed covered from head to toe, with a more transparent cloth rectangle over the eyes so they could see out. when I went out walking, a flock of women from a compound giggled and hid behind bushes to shadow me as I walked, they were so curious about the outside world. In arabia, I couldn't leave my fenced in area to even go walking.
surf all day and all night killer pool thanks kelly
is it $500 a wave? like the other pool?
It’s cheaper I believe. No info was shared w me, but that’s the word on the street
Man the stoke is real!! YEEEEWWW 🤙
Soulless surfing
Whatever fool.
wow that machine is amazing!!!!

Sérieux, c'est un défenseur de la nature ce mec? Il est tellement décevant
Keep the videos up Dylan!
🍻 thank u
I miss when surfing was done in the ocean
It still is. This ain't surfing. Just a bunch of posers
In the end could be a bit boring. Like riding a tame docile pony rather than a wild free Stallion
Don’t knock till u try is all I can say, these guys make it look easy … it’s not
@@DylanGravesYT fun for rich people...🤑🤑🤑
Doubt it. Watch Noel Salas struggle at Surf Ranch and you'll realize pretty quick it's a difficult wave to surf. I suspect you're just one of those types though. You probably comment like this about everything you watch on youtube. Thinking you're clever being a contrarian.
I think I have hit a raw nerve. Maybe I just believe in the adventure, freedom and unpredictability of paddling out in a real surf break . But every one to their own, and it was just my personal opinion not meant to upset the vested interests of modern day commercialism.
@@doublestrokeroll
@@123456snowey naaa...you're just a boring cliche. Just trying to make yourself feel superior. Your argument is a dumb as someone saying using a nail gun is boring compared to a hammer.
Nobody is making you do it so what's the point of even saying this? Exactly. There is NO point to statements like yours. They're meaningless. If anything hits a nerve, it's the inability of people like you to logically reason this out before making stupid posts.
Plus I bet you've never even tried it have you? It's always you people who've never been to one who think this way. I've never seen a single post from someone who's tried a wave pool, and didn't have fun.
As a kid growing up the thought of something like this would have blown my mind !!! Now in my 40's and it's reality....it does absolutely nothing for me and simply misses all the main aspects of what surfing is
I think most people agree with you. It's one day cricket compared to Test cricket. But if you can't make it - fake it. If the technology is there why not use it? It's indulgent, but compared to the resource waste of military-industrial complex, it's harmless. Wow, getting barrels in Abu Dhabi is innovative - taking things to the next level. Kelly is the GOAT.
@@SuperBingo96 pretty good post mate. Can't really argue with that !!
Well put

That is awesome! Kelly is king

Never fails to impress that's for sure that wave 🌊 is Stu able
Stooooooop ! And the planet ? We walk on the head
WOW...thank you for this.
My pleasure 🍻
Even by their standards the cost per session/wave is breathtaking.
Sure, but obviously it's working. Supposedly the wait list at Surf Ranch is so long that's the reason when you go to their website you can't even schedule a booking. At least the last time I checked. It's booked up years in advanced. So people are paying that consistently. Remains to be seen if this one will be the same.
@@doublestrokeroll tech people and industry boot lickers. I’m glad this exists, why fight it, however, to say “it’s working” really, is it? Do better.
@@waikikiwilly13 Well it's working for those people, right? You're acting like you should be entitled to go there. Why?
I can't afford it. Tough shit for me right? I don't whine about it. If they want to cater to an "exclusive" crowd and they can make that a success for themselves then more power to them. Complaining about it is just sour grapes.
There are cheaper technologies that are starting to open in many places, so it's trickling down.
@@hoppingrabbit9849 That has nothing to do with anything I said. If you'd like to talk about wave pools and wasting water we can but your response to my comment is not logical. I never said anything about water waste or farming.

Those muckrakers at Beach Grit sent me here. Noice. They were sincere in their reporting. I love weird waves! Is this the 1st successful artificial saltwater wave?
Who's going to ride it? A bunch of oil rich fools, who are going to line Slater's pockets. 🤔
Same in California, except they're not from the oil business, but just rich fools surf these
I can't see any use for this thing except as a tour stop for sports washing an area oppressive to human rights. Because humans are not built to tolerate that type of heat and sun without fully protective garments, like they traditionally wear in such areas. it certainly has no local income to support operations . So it is either a simple vanity of the rich, or just more sport washing in an effort to normalize those who choose to oppress their fellow human beings.
