If you too are a heat transfer devotee like I've become, here is the "window" design I used for my lantern bag: www.pinterest.com/pin/460563499409679316/
I was immediately contemplating how to do a soft glow flickering led situation in one of these too. Then someone else proposed a moth and now I foresee a fun project ahead!
YES!!!! ❤ So you could cut out the black black as the " framing", then maybe use red silk for the structure, or if you wanted changeable colors white or silver gray? I wonder if they make LED light panels that are really small and thin....
For giving the panels more structure, I would use Decovil Heavy. It’s a fusible interfacing that bagmakers use. You would cut it so that the fabric is a half inch larger on all sides.
I love this, I am getting my hands on a second hand (virtually new) embroidery machine and I so wanna make a rose window “stained glass” purse now. I think it needs a lil moth buddy to dangle from either the straps or the zipper pull maybe a future project?
my great grandma used to make stuff like this with plastic canvas, she'd stitch the yarn into patterns, into pieces, and then stitch them together. But that was for decoration, this would be much sturdier 😅 I'd love to see you make more things like this.
Bianca, you always amaze me with your endless creativity, sense of 3-dimensional structure and unmatched gift of design. And all this in today’s video was your own, unique creation!!!!! I continue to be in awe of your many talents. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Hi, Such a lovely little bag. I can't wait to see it in action. I have a suspicion about what this collection is leaning to, and I'm excited to see if I'm right. I don't care if the collections you present don't get as many views, that just shows how little they know. Yours, Ann
The teenage goth in me loved this video - a bag like this would've been right up my alley! You make such interesting and beautiful things ❤. Im looking forward to seeing this latest look-book, seems like its going to be very cool 😁.
This is so cute I think if I had a bag like this I’d want the tassels to hang off the bottom corners or just one on the centre bottom (not very practical when putting it down but would look so pretty when worn) 😍
Thank you! Yes the tassels from the bottom versus the top debate is a tough one, I've seen some bags with extra long tassels (McQueen for Givenchy I think? or maybe it was Armani Prive) so I also want floor length tassels 😂
I love the finished design! It’s so unique and elegant. I definitely want to see what would happen if you revisited this project in future though. Maybe with some of your amazing bead embroidery too? Amazing video as always!
Heat transfer!! I haven't tried. For materials, I watch Nicole Rudolph (she MAKES shoes, still blows my mind) because there's overlap in shoe materials and bags and how to deal with those materials (adhesives, how to stitch them, how to finish edges). I love this bag!!!
Fun project. That plastic stitch canvas is great. I use it to make stiff bottoms in tote bags . It can be sewn through too. I enjoy reverse engineering things like this. Yes you can use a tea pot! It is no more work than pouring hot water in a mug. Do not microwave your teabags ☹️. I am definitely Team Teapot, tea cozy.
Hello Bianca. We watch your videos in the weekends with my partner, and I just wanted to thank you for the amazing effort you put in these small works of art (both the projects and videos). You have an amazing voice and we just love to hear it in our house. You could easily turn a professional voice actor. The best of luck to you with your upcoming projects! 🥰
Come to my house I’ll make a pot of tea and use my lovely tea cozy. I made mine in the 80’s when I had a gorgeous tea pot collection. I made the mistake of using 100% wool. It keeps the tea wary warm for quite a while but sadly needs to be had washed.
if you make this again, your thought to put in the structure in before sewing together is entirely correct. also, if you want stability but slightly softer than the plastic canvas, look for peltex or fusible fleece, both are in the fabric section at joanns, and are normal handbag stabilizers. love the lantern shape and design, it's quite pretty!
Gorgeous! I love the gothic look of it. A fiery ombre satin in shades of orange to red would be pretty too - with the lighter color positioned at the bottom so it looks like the lamp is lit.
Thank you! They have this vinyl material in high vis reflective as well, meaning you could have one that shines/glows in bright light, or heck they have glow in the dark htv too ✨
Yeah, my motivation has often been that one didn’t exist and it needed to. I have made any number of purses for that because finding a cross-body bag with sufficient pockets and some personality (and durability) has always been a challenge for my AuDHD self. I can sink into a skull purse project for months but can’t remember to grab my phone without a good, steady place to keep it.
Love this so much! I have lots of ideas for tote bags and cross-body bags, but I just keep watching tutorials and never sitting down to actually try and make them. It’s very encouraging and inspiring to watch you just dive in and try even though it may not turn out perfectly, or may have to be a “version 2” in a longer line of iterations. As always, thank you for sharing your art with us, Bianca! 💖🙏
I feel you! I want to make a cross-body bag just large enough to hold my water bottle and a paperback for trips on the subway. I haven't gotten much farther than that idea yet. 😂
I'm not a bag person (I left my purse under the Eiffal Tower when I was fourteen and was saved by a very kind henna artist, so it's pockets for me and my ADHD), but this piece makes me wish I could be responsible enough for handbags.
OMG! I could use this technique for a TARDIS handbag!! Also - shout out to my plastic canvas fam! I love this stuff.... I actually made totally custom removable layered organizer system for my sewing machine table drawers using plastic canvas, lashed together with yarn.
I had a truly visceral reaction to the thumbnail of this video, "sharp intake of breath, beating heart, Slight gasp". I now know I was obviously missing this from my life and now have to make it, post haste!
Ooooh this is gorgeous! Also wierd because I've just recently got into bag making, although while my first couple bags turned out well I don't think I'll be happy enough with them until I upgrade to an industrial machine so I can more reliably use thicker threads and heavier faux leathers and stabilisers etc
Thank you! I just found an etsy shop with really cool vinyls and now I'm going to be a small bags monster I fear. Some folks search out my same machine, the 99k or the bigger Singer 66 for doing leather work, actually so it may be worth looking at a cast iron singer as and option, as they can be found for cheaper than an industrial ✨
@@TheClosetHistorian thanks so much for the tip!! I'll have a look around, would also be much more practical than how heavy and huge industrial set ups are 🙃
It's marvelous, I'm in love with this bag. I found your channel like a month ago or so, and truly, you became my number 1 on youtube. I live in Europe, but I'd love to meet you one day 🖤❤️🖤 You're the best 🥰
Bianca..i told you that you are wicked talented..the things you come up with..my brain couldn't work like yours even on super vitamins..this bag is soooo cute.
Perfect for if you need to ask "Who goes there?" Edit: ok using that cross stitch grid as a stiffener is genius, I'm definitely buying some of that stuff
Oooh, I expected you were going to insert the plastic canvas between your htv outside layer and your sateen inside layer like they were a casing for corset boning and then you added an extra lining lining!
If I had known I was gonna for sure add the structure from the start I might have...but I was just going off the rails to see what worked and what I liked 😅😂
I love this idea and will definitly make one for me! Thank you for sharing your mistakes, it will certainly be put to good use. It already inspires me do much ❤
Stunning! I have a lantern shaped ita bag I bought a few years ago, but I don't really use it because it's pleather and just a bit to plastic-y for my taste! Recreating it has been at the top of my to-do list for a while now! I love the idea of using plastic canvas, I don't love the heavy bag making interfaces so I'm always looking for alternatives to give my projects structure!
Great video. Really enjoyed seeing your construction methods and the reasoning behind it. Also enjoyed hearing what you think you did wrong and what else you might do. Great insights!
Lovely, as always. I have machine embroidery designs that would be perfect for a project like this! Now I just need a reason to carry one of them around.

I was hoping for at least one large moth fluttering around the lantern!
A moth brooch would be perfect!
What a super idea!❤
I can always pin a few on, they are near at hand in my house 😂
New obsession unlocked: stained-glass handbag. Maybe even lit up with LEDs for costumes. I can't wait to try this, thank you!
@christanice If anything a wire of fairy lights strung or just wadded up inside?
I was thinking about somehow using those tiny LED fairy lights for a project like this.
....and then a wood elf costume and go walking through woods with it held out in front like that scene in LOTR. Oh dear - new obsession indeed!
For giving the panels more structure, I would use Decovil Heavy. It’s a fusible interfacing that bagmakers use. You would cut it so that the fabric is a half inch larger on all sides.
Wow! I've never heard of that interfacing. Thank you!
This is the info I need 🤩 Thanks Diana!
Looks a little like a fancy Tardis!😀
OMG you're right 😮
*Starts sketching furiously*
Now I wanna make a tardis handbag lol😂
I love this, I am getting my hands on a second hand (virtually new) embroidery machine and I so wanna make a rose window “stained glass” purse now. I think it needs a lil moth buddy to dangle from either the straps or the zipper pull maybe a future project?
Thank you Kathleen! I have so many bag ideas and not enough time to try them right now it's true 😅
Love it. I bet if you used a small battery powered candle on the inside it would shine through.
This is CUTE. I love that you used the plastic canvas for structure. Very very cool project.
Thank you!
Ooh this could even be lots of different colors to look like a stained glass window.❤
Yes! Imagine a watercolor printed or tie dyed fabric 🤩
This turned out so well! It reminds me of those beautiful handmade lampshades on Instagram ❤🖤
Thank you Chae! I really want to try making one of those fancy lampshades 🤩
my great grandma used to make stuff like this with plastic canvas, she'd stitch the yarn into patterns, into pieces, and then stitch them together. But that was for decoration, this would be much sturdier 😅 I'd love to see you make more things like this.
It would be so fun to use this technique to make a Tardis bag 💖

Gorgeous!! I'm all in for this design. Thank you for the pinterest link.
Thank you Beatrice!
Imagine a SEQUINED one. I'm dying. 💀😍
I was thinking sequins, or maybe some beaded insect decorations?
I actually think Bianca could just pin one (or two or three) of her many beaded brooches onto it, since it's made of fabric... but then, holes.
Steam the pin marks and they go away, sewing pins don't make holes so neither do jewelry pins, so no worries ✨ Also always yes to sequins!
What a fun lite bag, love it❤😊
Thank you!

nice, as every project! ❤❤❤
Thank you Diana!
Oh wow. This is the first non-lapped zipper I've seen you do!!! Cute design.
It's a rare occurrence indeed 😂
Ahhh all the glamorous tea cosies you could create!
It's true, I just need tea pots first, baby steps!
Your "making-it-up-as-I-go" skills are beyond belief. Love the finished result!
Thank you Hannah!
very cute. I have just started making purses and totes and it is whole new world of different products for the interfacings.
Thank you Jill! I'm not even very well versed in interfacing in general, then the bag making adds a whole new avenue 😵
Very cute.
Thank you Teresa!

How gorgeous! Just as a piece of objet d'art, it's stunning!

Led string ligth and a battery pack can get it to ligth up to
This one is too many layers of opaque fabric, but in thinner/transparent fabrics probably yes!

Ooooohhhhhhh.... That would be GORGEOUS!
Let's just say I have some rose window friends coming your way soon 😅✨
@@TheClosetHistorian Definitely looking forward to that!
Oooooo, looks amazing
Thank you Linda!
I absolutely love this!!!! It came out so beautiful!! I agree, we need more gothic lantern themed handbags in the world!
Thank you Beth! I just think not enough accessories have gothic tracery/filigree going on?! "ugh so 13th century" yeah like please, take my money?
Brilliant. Always need a bag to carry a small bottle of bubbly. 😍
That turned out splendidly! 🙂 Right up my alley. Looking forward to the next lookbook!
Thank you Maria!

another piece of wearable/usable art ❤🖤
Thank you!!
Oh!! So pretty!! I’m wondering if perhaps one day we’ll get a beaded moth handbag? 😍
I'd sure love one! Thank you!
It's lovely!! Definitely something we should all have!
Thank you Robin!
Just seen the thumbnail, and it just looks so cool 😮 Lantern bag is such a keep idea
Oh wow, it's beautiful!! ❤

Never under-estimate the usefulness of polymer clay. This is a very cute bag. If you can't find what you need in the store, make it.
Rachel Maksy has inspired me in this way so many times, especially with home decor. Love projects like this!!

Oh, please make one in blue and white and black like the Tardis!
Alas I am not Whovian and only know what that is from existing on Tumblr in my youth 😅

You could always reinvent the toilet roll cover. My nan had a Barbie doll with knitted dress/roll cover.... Maybe gothic lantern could be the way to go if a tea cosy is unnecessary
Wonderful idea! A tea cosy may not be necessary, but a gothic lantern toilet roll cover is a must 😂
