  • After owning my Dodge Challenger 5.7L RT for only 4 months, I traded it in on the 6.4L Scat Pack! Was it the right decision? And how much I lost on my 5.7.

    I myself traded my 09 RT for 2019 scat pK and really thought I might have made a mistake. Even left the dealers twice , having it for a month now, I LOVE IT, I find myself driving and going no where , just like a kid getting his license first time remember drove everywhere to no where. I’m 65 yrs old promised myself in 71 if I get back from Nam I’m going to get a challenger well I did 48 yrs later , with MORE HP than the 71... love my scat

      It's funny you made that comment about the new muscle having more HP then the 'classics'. I was ALWAYS into MOPAR muscle, had the 68 Charger, 71, 72, and 73 Challengers. Even had a 71 Super bee, V code 440 6 pack automatic (one of 63 made). NONE of them could run with modern MOPAR muscle. And to tell you the truth, I wouldn't spend the money being asked for any one of those older classics. Why would I? I would rather get a 392 Scat, with a warranty and 11 second time slips. No shoddy bodywork, no constant carb tuning, no half assed engine/tranny builds. And NO INSANE $40k or more asking price for one of the older cars.........

    As an engineer, I would pick the rt and modify the engine. The scat pack isn’t worth the 15k extra . It’s just a bored out 5.7 .
    If I were to upgrade, I would go for the hellcat. Forged crank (2k alone!) forged rods, rocker arms, pistons. It’s in a different class all together.
    I good engine guy can easily make an rt a sleeper for a relative few dollars and you will have some high quality extras and not the stock Dodge stuff....
    IN MY HUMBLE OPINION

    I have a 2016 RT. I put shorty headers, Muffler 40, High flow cats,Diablo sport Tune, CAI, 90 Mm Throttle Body, Throttle spacer, 185 Thermostat, Put a tazer to get the pages,
    Pedal commander to burn rubber. Put slotted rotors, bigger wheels, 285x20 x4 tires. Car runs and feels like a 6.4. Love my R/T. It has been fun modding it and I have a few more mods in my head for the future. I only have 25,000 miles. Raced a 450HP Ford Raptor and blew him away. True. The 5.7 Hemi is extremely entertaining and fast. People buy Challengers and Chargers because of low-end torque. Also, if some complains about how heavy the car is, they bought the wrong product and should have gone with a mustang.

    Its crazy because I bought a 2019 charger R/T in February of this year for 38k. In August I traded in for a scat pack which was 43k. The dealership gave me 35k for my R/T and $4,850 in rebates. With $500 down I broke even and got the car for 44k with gap insurance with a lower interest rate. So I got the better trim for a better monthly payment and grateful it all worked out. But overall if you're serious about buying any car just let the dealer know where you stand and not allow them to get over on you. They make a profit regardless but the more they get out of you then the better it is for them.

  • @x4tfxChallenger
    @x4tfxChallenger 2 года назад +2

    The 5.7 Hemi is not slow. Speed is a relative term. It is neutered from the factory and minor modifications can wake it up fairly easily. No matter what car you get, you will always want or wish you had more power.
    Also, spending almost $100 on an oil change is asinine . You can change your oil for literally $35-$45.

    • @ocmotivator
      @ocmotivator  2 года назад

      1. You just said it’s “slow” from the factory. Confirming my point. 2. Yes. I agree. They neutered the car and modifying it would wake it up. 3. Modifying it would void the warranty though. And most people don’t want those headaches. 4. After owning the Redeye, I decided that was too much power for most normal human beings. 5. I worked a lot of years to reach a point of wealth wear $100 for someone else’s time, energy, and skill, makes that a small price to pay for me to not have to jack up my car, mess with dirty oil, dispose of the oil properly, wrestle around in the engine compartment, and then figure out how to reset the dash light. I know how to do it, but I have better things to do than roll around on my back in my driveway which to me is “asinine” when I could be at lunch with my beautiful wife having a martini on a Saturday.

    • @x4tfxChallenger
      @x4tfxChallenger 2 года назад +1

      @@ocmotivator No. I did not confirm your previous statement. Even though the car is neutered from the factory, it is still a fast car. The 5.7 Hemi is still a 13 to 15 second car in the 1/4 mile. This was considered fast for a street car back in the 70’s, it is still fast today. In regards to voiding your warranty, the simple answer to that is wait till the warranty is expired or buy a used car. No one going to haphazardly void their warranty due to modifications. However, there are some modifications that can be made and it won’t void your warranty. The used car market prices today are extremely inflated and the price for a used car and a new car are within a $5,000-$6,000 price difference. People that want to modify their Challenger or Charger will have better gains in performance if they buying a 5.7 over the 6.4, because the 6.4 is very optimized from the factory. You mentioned that you owned a Redeye, so you obviously understand that all of the V8 engines are fast based on their components and weight. You can’t compare the 5.7 to the 6.4 fairly because the components for each engine are drastically different. The 6.4 engine, for example, has a bigger engine, larger throttle body, higher compression rating, more aggressive gearing, and a better camshaft. Also, since most people who own these cars have disposable income, paying a professional to make those modifications is a more feasible option than making those modifications yourself.

      Hyundai Sonata, Newer Honda Accords and a 335i Beemers will walk all over the Challenger Charger, 300C and magnum hemi models. They're all cheaper.
      Don't get me wrong I love my Hemi 300C AWD (decked out fully loaded 2014 John Varvatos 300C 5.7 AWD fully loaded, window sticker 57k) and used to have a 2008 SRT 300C (which makes the 5.7 hemi look like a 4 cylinder).
      These cars are tanks, my 2014 is 4650 lbs with the AWD and I tuned and modded it to around 410hp on the 5.7.
      My 2008 6.1 SRT was around 4200lbs, motor tuned and modded to around 500hp. The SRT would rape stock 6.4 scat packs and SRTs for lunch. By today's standards it's still slow. The 5.7 hemi in my 2014 is embarrassingly slow compared to the SRT. The only advantages I have are tons of traction and no one expecting a 300C to be as fast as a Challenger R/T. The AWD makes a huge difference though. I can smoke much faster rear wheel drive cars in crappy weather, but FCA decided in 2014 to no longer offer AWD and a HEMI except to police.

      Fitmalone Snapchat the 0-60 on the Camry is almost the same as the RT so that would be a fair comparison. Look it up. I love the RT but I think Dodge could’ve done better on the HP. The motor is capable with a little retuning.

    I like the looks of the Challenger because of the 3 new Muscle Cars out it looks more like the original & I’ve always loved Mopar my first was a 69 Roadrunner 383. I love cars & trucks & love buying them it’s great fun for me as I treat it like a game & of the 2 dozen new cars I’ve bought I’ve only thought I’ve overpaid twice. And one of them was an 83 Cougar I drove off the showroom floor, but it actually ended being the best deal I ever got because I had for 150,000 miles & had to replace only 1 wiper blade motor that was all & that was under warranty. But I digress when these new Challengers came in 2015 I really wanted one but was just considering the looks I wasn’t even thinking about the power. So I actually took a year studying them & making low ball offers figuring if they took them great if not I didn’t need the car as I had 5 cars at home between one daughter, my wife & me. So I started looking at the 6 cylinder I wanted all the luxuries on them. I made some low ball offers & they were always turned down & one day I was at a dealer that had a lot of R/T’s ( I actually like their pinstriping more than any other Challenger Trim) it was a manual took it for a spin liked it so I changed my mind & wanted the 5.7 . I went back home & started calling around & making another round of low ball offers with nothing to lose hoping the price would go down as we coming up on a new Model Year. So one day I was at a dealer with a lot of Scat Packs & test drove one. I was hooked then I couldn’t settle for anything less. Now the obvious move would be to test a Hellcat but that would’ve been pushing the budget & I know if I drove one I wouldn’t be able to settle for Anything but the Hellcat. So I got my Scat Pack with everything on it , I have 1 more year & it’s paid off 2 more years & my Wife’s Outlander is paid off then it’s on to the Red Eye unless Dodge comes up with something else to change my mind. ( I still haven’t driven a Hellcat )

      You can definitely make your 5.7 run with a stock scatpack, but you'd need a fair bit more than a tune and cold air intake to do that. I see you ordered some long tube headers which has definitely got you headed in the right direction! They'll make more of a power difference to your R/T than anything you've done so far. It'll really wake the car up. Throw in a cam and that'll put you right in the "392" zone.

    Did you get the RT initially thinking that it would be enough motor as well?

      Jay Rolls ya. Total impulse buy. Walked into the dealer and bought the car. Should’ve driven the Scat Pack and others. Lesson learned!

    5.7 all day. Can do way more with motor then 6.4 and come out cheaper then buying at scat

    Love my scat pack it’ll get you in trouble quick enough never considered an rt can’t imagine a hellcat power on the roads mine knocks the tires off at 45mph and pulls till you let out. There are faster cars but imo the scat is a nasty street car. I smile every time I get in it.

    The bath you took on the trade in. You could have used to add more power to the r/t and possibly would have made it faster then that stock scat. 🤦🏽‍♂️

      Seriously? You’re kidding right? What about the suspension? Drive shaft, rear end/differential, brakes, etc? What about the skinny wheels and tires? Gotta change those. How about the appearance? Front splitter very different, no sunroof, oh and no performance pages in that RT I had. Not even to mention completely voiding my entire warranty on a brand new car destroying the value and ensuring that I’m stroking checks every time it breaks due to the performance mods. Additionally, engine mods destroy the value of the car for resale or trade in purposes devaluing the car by nearly 50% since no one wants that uncertainty. Or, just lose $4000 and get everything I need in a brand new fully warranted Scat Pack. Hmmm. Seems like I made the right decision to me.

      My insurance on my v6 was 250 per month, i went to go trade it in for a scat pack and my insurance went up to 600, i ended up buying a 5.7 cuz that one only went up to 336.... the insurance on scats go up by alot.

      Jetta Castaneda when it comes to the price of the scat thats pretty cheap if its fully loaded. Check the car fax on it and if that is all clear call the insurance company and see how much it would b. Your pretty young so expect it to b high. If u can go under your parents.

    Rt should have 400hp while the scat Should have 550hp

      I agree. They should increase the hp in the RT. It’s just too slow.

    The 6.4 is the best way to go only if you are going to do mods on the car... I can't go all out and give my plans for my car but HELL the 6.4 is theeee way to go....

      I Spended 7K to my 345 and now it have 620HP. Cheaper than a Scat but Faster. For Speed and Mod 345 for people who just like to say "I drive a 392 SRT" the Scat is good but remember ITS A RT NOT THE SRT! And btw it just says SRT Powered because the Intake Manifold is from SRT and it's the 5.7 Engine with a Strocker Kit made by SRT. What does that say? Spend 7K on the 345 and you'll Gap the Scat all Day
