Got it last week for my pc,it actually runs quite well on new gen games.
Yeah, it surprised me how good it still runs games, I have put in my friends mew gaming pc while he waits for the gpu prices to go down, and it runs a lot of the games he plays quite well

Still running the 6950 because my uncle had an extra when I couldn't buy a new one. It's a major bottleneck, but with a few workarounds and cpu-based games, it works for what I need. Would love to upgrade when the market isn't insane.
My old card played till 2017😀 now using 1650s
I know the feeling :(( I'm stuck on a r9 290 (I know its better than the 6950 so I shouldn't complain but still) and I kind of want to get something like a 1070 or even better a 2070 but they're just so expensive these days

Pro tip,
replace thermal pads if you are going through the trouble of disassembling the heat sink because now that they are broke you might see decreased lifespan from those components. Also, I hope you tested the card before disassembly. super important step to ensure the product didn't get damaged in the mail or whatnot.
Yeah I shouldve replaced the thermal pads. I didn't have any on hand so thats why I didn't replace them. I usually cut it out but before I actually take apart a gpu I test it to see if it outputs video (but in my opinion I think its kind of boring since I dont even use my own pc to test it so it usually gets cut out).
Thank you for this good video review my friend. Can I suggest you try 900p resolutions? It will improve the framerate and still keep quality at an acceptable level.
A card like this is only really good for 720p/900p or untaxing 1080p games.
Yeah I don't know for sure if I already did that here but in my new reviews I try to find a mix between graphical settings and resolution that makes the card achieve ~60fps in games
Back when this card was released, 1080p was usually found on TVs rather than monitors. Closest to 1080p was 1680x1050, and only a few could run it. 6990 was such a beast.
I got this when it was released. Played the Tomb Raider reboot on highest settings at 30 FPS on 1360x768. My mind was blown. Then later, it managed to also play me XCOM 2 War of the Chosen. 60FPS on Borderlands 2. What a god of GPU it was.
I used to own it's big brother (the HD 6970) and these cards were beasts. I upgraded last year from it and I still kind of miss it ( although my current gpu is better). Even in 2020 that card powered trough every game I wanted to play on it
@@TygoDoesStuff I'll pass the card to my sister when I upgrade. She plays older games like Dead Space 2, Brutal Legend, Alice, etc. My awe was when I realized it's still functional. It started giving me black screens due to bad PSU, but I had no idea it was the PSU, until I gave the card to my friend and he tested it. Played Satisfactory on 1080P. Managed to ditch a playable FPS with Medium-high settings.

What kind of driver do you have installed and on what os? I have the card but cant install the correct driver for it can you send me the link?

Hi bro i've also bought this card yesterday. Since then I can't figurr out how can i put multiple monitors using hdmi and dvi-d. And then even one monitor by hdmi isn't at his full resolution being it at 1440p 95hz but it is locked at 1080p 60hz.
Do you have any idea?
Ive been struggeling with this too, I couldn’t get two monitors hooked up, but after a lot of Windows restarts, they just started working, although getting a third screen connected over dvi does not work on my card. I think that its just an issue with the ports on the card itself, or something to do with the drivers

I used one monitor over hdmi, and the second monitor over dvi. I tried hooking up a third monitor to the other dvi port, but it doesn’t work.

I have the 1 GB version of this card, and it's not great, but still extremely surprising what modern games it can run.
Yeah exactly, I used to have a 6970 and it's still holding up in my sisters pc. It's surprising to see how it still holds up pretty well in 2022
Got one of these for 10 gbp from recycling centre and it works Picked it up as a emergency as my other card went up in smoke wonder how SLI would work on them two
crossfire/sli doesn't work, barely works. Don't bother.

@@soton000 barely any games support it, driver development for it is atrocious etc. Believe me I've tried it all. I even have a gtx 690 I've fiddled with for years.
Just stick to a single card.
I remember testing sli or crossfire of 2x6950 2gb on witcher 2, crysis and other new games back then ;-) years ago and fps went up almost doubling speed. Just need good psu and space in case.
today i have installed this card it gives out put signal I cheek on bios .. but in the time of windows loading I just can see the w10 loga then THE SIGNAL goes AWAY!! no signal during windows BOOT! can anyone help me?
Did you already try hooking up a display to your integrated gpu and installing the drivers for the card using your igpu?

The latest drivers won't work with this card, you have to download the hd 6950 drivers on the amd website
I got the hd 6950 1gb with direct cu cooler mines a bit weird cause it’s got 1 8 pin and 1 6 pin connector and it’s got 4 dp and 2 dvi ports
Yeah some versions of these cards have different ports, yours is probably a bit more powerful

Is 80 degrees good temp on this card?
Its kind of high but if it doesn't increase much under load you should be fine

Yeah, i ended up replacing the thermal pads after the review, should have done it during the review, I’m kind of curious if it would make any difference

I kind of like them better than Ethereum and otter crypto that use proof of work (GPU shortages AAAAAAA) but I dont really have a further opinion on them, since I dont really have much knowledge on crypto
I have two of these that work via CrossFire 2 way, only the power consumption is 400W
200W is horrible performance to watts compared to any gpu from 2012 and newer , just compare a rtx 2060 and it's 5x better for less usage...... im not shitting on the hd6950 , it is great for older games and small/optimised newer games but... if you have 2 of them , that is way too much watts than what you get... a gtx 1650 is i guess about double a single hd6950 and consume like 75 watts
Yeah that's the bad thing about old tech. The performance to watts is usually pretty bad. Especially with the crazy electricity prices (atleast in the Netherlands) using old parts for daily use isn't that good of a investment

I've done benchmarks on as many games as I can that support crossfire I can see why it's not used anymore but I love messing with the tech.

Barely any games work with xfire/sli now.
It deemed old technology.
I ran xfire HD 6950's back when BF3 launched, as it was cheaper to get an 2nd hand 6950 than buying a new GPU. I've just found my old HD 6950's and figured what the heck I'll see what they can do! (Which is why I'm here!)
There's no difference in FPS with 1 or 2 cards, i think AMD just dropped support in drivers.
i use that with a athlon 64 for all those old steam games that dont launch on modern stuff

Mine runs 60w at idle, is that normal?
I'm not sure what mine idled at but since the TDP is 200W (the most current it can draw) I don't think it's out of the ordinary

Yeah, roblox is locked to 60fps. The results that the 1% and 0.1% lows get shows how much roblox is stuttering. This card definitly could get more than 60fps in roblox

Im gonna buy a pc from facebook it has a asrock h81m vg4 r3.0 and a very bad cpu so im gonna buy a i5 4460 and this gpu since i found it for 15 euro with a 750 ti but the guy dropped it and it broke off a piece it also has 3 fans :)))
