The original 25 minute stream inspited an exercise in video editing to condense things down to a seamless 12 minutes to keep all of the funniest moments, while retaining a natural flow through principles of editing such as continuity, pacing and rhythm in such a way that transposes what some may find boring in the live stream to a funny banality that Norm played off of so well. There will never be another quite like him. Rest in Peace Norm Macdonald (October 17, 1959 - September 14, 2021)

Ghostbusters3 Louis CK did that exact same punchline in an act back in the day though, I saw it coming for that reason.
It's easy to recognize when you've grown up roasting and being roasted by your family and friends. It's fairly common in British and Canadian culture. Paraphrasing Ricky Gervais, "Once you've paid your way in life, the only thing left to do is have a laugh" It's the ability to laugh at AND be laughed at that separate these RUclips "stars" and a comedy giant such as Norm MacDonald. It's the difference from trying to be funny and being funny.

Norm said that after he appeared on Letterman he realized how the talk show format worked. The host is in on the joke, the audience is in on the joke, and the directors, writers and producers are in on it. The only person who isn't is the "guest". You are the joke and play it in that way (bombing or else wise). This is the perfect example of two hosts who are overmatched and "not in on the joke".
Kassem is actually a funny ass dude tho who can play off norm well. He’s not a normal douchey award host type guy
