- Sometimes I wonder how journalists actually published these considering all the incorrect information written in them. Maybe stick your field of expertise next time. I'm by no means a genius either, but the difference is, I don't go around acting high and mighty about things I know nothing about, especially to the point where I'd publish an article over it.
Just how bad is it, you ask? Well imagine articles mocking ACTUAL PERFORMANCE mods and calling them "Not Mechanically advantageous" or calling any colored wheel "Ugly" since they're some old mid-life crisis loser who only loves boring Silver Wheels. If that stands for "sequential manual gearbox"(rally,f1,motorcycle) then you recognize the writer has a point on that one.
Some call it semi-automatic transmission but I couldn't disagree more about it since it usually does require "manual" operation of clutch, shifter and some degree of rev matching to drive

I didn't quite get why. DCTs that are shifted manually are clearly manual, and on those, paddles are good on sporty cars and superfluous on commuter cars. Three-pedal manuals obviously don't have them, but DCT manuals do

Unless you are doing a full gearbox swap, you can't simply buy paddles and slap them on your steering wheel! It doesn't work like that!
Also, bladed, you got a detail a bit wrong there. Yes, typically paddles are there for an automatic with a manual mode, but paddles are also a common option for gear selectors on sequential manuals, which have a clutch and cannot shift themselves, as is typically the case on track cars.

essentially, oni-kyan means "demon camber", which means just putting a shit-ton of camber on your front or rear wheels. usually done on VIP-style cars (stanced sedans with luxurious interiors). it was also used on drift cars back in the 90s on the front wheels such as rough world and b-wave's cars, in order to get better contact on the front tires whilst drifting.

The only amount of camber that is actually an advantage in any type of racing is barely visible, so you are wrong there lol. When the wheels on a car are cambered 45 degrees away from vertical, you are literally driving on your rims. That's like trying to run while balancing on one toe.

I doubt they put that much thought into it. I think they just saw someone using the paddles in a race car or higher-end sports car and believe that to be a manual transmission, even when it's just a DCT or similar that they've simply put to 'manual mode' (or however you want to phrase it).
They probably don't realise that you can have a DCT (or DSG as they like to call it) in a Golf as well as in a Porsche (or PDK as they call it) and think the owner of the Golf with a DCT is being stupid for having the paddles behind the steering wheel as 'they know it to be automatic' but in not knowing that Porsches with PDKs are also automatic just with the driver choosing to change gear themselves more often in videos of them driving on track or wherever, leading to them thinking they're manual transmissions. The DSG, PDK, etc names probably don't help them realise they're all some form of DCT.
I like to imagine one of the designer people at Fiat had a good vision for the Multipla but then had a minor stroke midway through.
What people dont get is that the car was mainly function over form. The multipla is a very innovative and clever car just like the Aztec, the styling simply came secon

Had my cousins husband call me a lier because I told him I could get sparkplugs out with the minimal ratchet set. After I proved him wrong he then proceeded to tell me that my intercooler was just for show my N.B awd 07 cx-7 doesn't have a turbo and that I can still drive it on an evap fail, egr fail, and catalytic converter fail,with no problems or massive damage to my car.(he isn't a car guy and only know about his busted 05 Honda wich is N.A do to RUclips. and now magically he knows more than a licensed mechanic both retired and still working.) ~His car nolonger runs and I'm waiting on parts and equipment for mine.~
A functioning intercooler without a turbo?
Painted rims is the sort of thing i do when i modify cars in games. Because with the right combination, they just look cool. Not sure if I'll do it in real life, but they can look amazing.

When actually diesels are built MAINLY for Fuel Economy. Not "just towing".
Especially when diesels such as the V8 6.2 Liter N/A ,and 6.5 Liter Turbocharged Detroit Diesels were built mainly for fuel economy.
I've known car guys to even say this. Atleast in racing terms. "Diesels are slooow" Yeah. A stock one maybe "Its worth more money to upgrade a gasser for racing than a diesel" Thats up to debate but even I'd argu I'd take the diesel cause they're tougher. Personally I prefer gas cause of that v8 roar
then why aren't they used in hybrid cars and regular commuting cars for mpg?

@@jason200912 Diesel cars are or at least were extremely popular here in the UK and across Europe, even small diesels in hatchbacks like the Ford Focus, I actually drive a 1.6 litre diesel Focus.
As for diesel hybrids, they do exist. Land Rover had a diesel hybrid Range Rover in the UK for a while for example.
Diesels don't lend themselves very well to stopping and starting as they have much higher compression and take a lot longer to warm up so I imagine that's something to do with it. Running a diesel cold a lot isn't good for it and in a hybrid application I imagine it would spend a lot more of it's time cold as they try to run as an EV as much as possible. Land Rover probably tried to make a long distance hybrid, run on diesel for a motorway then electric when you reach the town/city. As most hybrids are bought to putter around town, there was never a big enough market for many other manufacturers to be jumping on board or for them to get a lot of publicity. Follow that with VW diesel-gate and they're eliminated as an option now.
I don't think diesel cars are common in the US for a couple of reasons. Petrol, or gasoline, has never been as expensive over there as it has been here in Europe to make 10 mpg differences significant enough to be particularly beneficial financially, and I imagine a lot of journeys are done within towns and cities, lots of independently short journeys where a diesel won't warm up and only fail eventually from the various problems that can cause.
On the other hand though, Locomotives are often Diesel-Electric. Not quite the same as a hybrid as they're more of a diesel generator producing electricity to drive the motors, but I think it's a worthy mention. Covering way more miles each and running for long amounts of time per journey, the benefits of the higher energy density adds up a lot more while the slow to warm up initially nature isn't a concern with them usually starting at one point in the day and running for several hours or more after that until the locomotive's working day is over.

I feel so validated in my hatred of people thinking automatic cars are manual just becuase of the paddles. They aren't. Nor are they semi-automatic. I'd say those don't exist but the Valeo gearbox in some Mondials might actually be one, or at least a manual without clutch.
When talking with non car friends I call dual clutches semi auto to differentiate between them and slushboxes

To be fair, the author said "front mounted". The author was saying that the placement of the intercooler doesn't have an "advantage" over top mounted intercoolers. Some might argue that the advantage is minimal, thus not worth the labour and cost, but that wasn't the author's argument. Intercoolers increase performance by dissipating heat as quickly and efficiently as possible, and the author apparently is too ignorant to realize this.

Scissor Doors are a great idea for 2+2 coupes and 2-seat sports cars. The main point is that the longer doors, usually meant to allow easier entry and egress to the back seat (and actually just make getting in and out of the car easier) can pose a significant issue in a parking lot or garage. So Scissor doors are very useful. They don't always look good, like on a 2nd Gen Ford Focus Coupe, but they are practical for cars with longer doors.
11:50 If he meant paddle shifters on rather standard cars then yeah, it used to be a problem cos either they were horribly done (e.g smart roadster's "electrically operated manual" with paddle shifters taking 3-6 business days to shift gears) or just a very expensive show-off (the first of VW's DSG's, why'd you even need that?)
I remember having a "car guy" try to explain to me that turbochargers were always better because "superchargers are driven by the crank, so they actually take power *away* from the engine".
Well, they do, they just add more than they take away (assuming you have them mounted well) and overall turbos are more efficient, modern ones have very little lag (which proper superchargers will always have an advantage in lag)

In terms of intercoolers, fmic gives better peak performance potential due to the straight airflow that is aided the faster you drive. tmic is chosen purely for two reasons: space constraint, and damage protection. This is the main reason STI always have had the hood scoop with a tmic setup, to avoid damaging the intercooler from frontal impact and road debris on rally stages, it's just a more secure location and 1 less mechanical hazard to worry about. Plus it looks neat. For certain applications with restrictions (like racing), a tmic may very easily be sufficient for what you're allowed to do in terms of power and cooling, but for straight unlimited performance an fmic has more potential.

Top mount intercools do have a slight disadvantage as they can heat soak slightly more quickly because hot air rises and so they top mount can get hotter. However on a street car this is negligible

more downforce at the cost of less fuel economy and slower top speed (corvette modders did a video testing it and found that a spoiler would reduce the top speed by 10 mph purely because the weight was way more weight than the aerodynamics bonuses it offered)

I have a small question, and I know that for some people it might seems stupid but is a sequencial gearbox a thing? because I know that in automatic gearbox you can chose what gear you want in special mode but is there a diffrent gearbox with no clutch pedal with manualy chosing gears?
Truly, I'm a fan of only bronze, certain browns, white, black, and gray wheels, unless it fits with a theme, but I won't insult someone just because they like something.

That paddle shifter = manual nonsense was a PITA when searching for my newest car. Everytime I filtered by manual 7/10 cars were automatics with a _manual mode_ being paddle shifters or that stupid sequential style with the shifting knob.

Paddle shifters are used in racing on automated manuals. Like Ferrari F1 manual, BMW smg, Porsche pdk, etc. They still have a clutch, not a torque converter.
Front mount intercoolers are better if they are air-air. My car has the factory air-water mounted under the supercharger, so it heat soaks easily, so I added a front mount as well
For me, paddle shifter are have function in normal cars, since sometimes you need to overtake at uphill.
4:48 Clearly states that if your car isn't turbocharged, it's a overpriced decor. There really isn't a mechanical advantage if your car isn't turbocharged.

For special cases you got sequential pattern manual boxes with paddle shifters (that pneumatically shifts). Most often in race cars.

You completely misunderstood what he was saying. Take F1 for an example, the paddle shifters are connected through a closed loop circuit to ensure a direct connection between the paddle and the transmission. And automatic gearbox doesn’t have the same mechanisms as a manual. Sequential transmissions are manuals. Manuals aren’t always with a gear shifter. F1 cars are manual. They have a clutch (hand operated but not used between gears because it’s sequential) and it doesn’t slip between gears, the gears thenself move in a sequential pattern to the next gear.

Sequential dogbox transmissions can use air actuated shifting via paddles. With some tuning to cut spark to unload the engine when pulling the paddle. You can shift the dogbox without using a clutch. Otherwise you can still use paddles just close the throttle yourself to unload the drivetrain. A sequential transmission is quite expensive but if you ever get the chance to drive one you'll love it.
