Could use the Counter Strike terminology "Battle scarred", "Field tested" or "Well worn" Or a more insider term "high float", referring to the decimal value to determine the skin's condition.
I think that "battle damage" refers more to stuff OR cars in this case, that have their "just for visuals" parts probably out of shapey but the stuff "that keeps 'em runnin'" still being untouched or properlly maintaned - aka imho a "clapped out car" is something that has its running parts broken as well as its visuals (body panels and such) meanwhile "battle ready" is a machine which has its visual, no-function-servin parts broken, but it is still fully or more than that capable parts - like if a car has a fully maintained engine that in its current state will never leave you stranded anywherey if its wheels, suspension, brakes etc. leave the car battle ready then it basically means imho a "machine which under ongoing or current stress will not stop" whereas a clapped out is "just a bit more stress / worn out" and the car stops alltogether.

"Sleeper" is used in truck, bus, and railway as well community, albeit it was interpreted a bit more literally: • A type of truck cab ("sleeper cab") that had a bed(s) to allow its driver to sleep. • A night bus or train, with seats swapped out for beds.
Another fun little parallel I've noticed as a gamer is that people seem to like leaving the "don't move the console with a disk in it" stickers on the last facelift Xbox 360s and the pre facelift Xbox Ones like they're the splitter guards on Dodges.
So glad to see a sleeper showcased as a beige box. My sleeper is made from a case that used to have a Pentium II machine. I'm talkin' it had a processor that went into a slot like RAM. it's not a LGA or PGA, it's a CPU slot that was in this thing. It's still got the floppy drive and the CD rom drive installed (neither are connected) to keep that old PC look. I could put stuff in the 5.25 bays if I wanted but everything is made with black plastic. I want a USB front panel that matches the 90s beige box build. The only RGB visible is on the IO shield and I keep it there bc I refuse to install manufacturer's bloatware just to turn off the colors.
This is a VERY hot take from a gamer regarding the rgb stuff most gaming pcs have. I prefer no unnecessary lights, why? Because it's easier to focus on the game when there's no flashy lights distracting you in your peripheral view.
I hate whenever people see I a high mileage car and immediately call it clapped out because yes some cars that made it that long were used and abused but other were taken complete car of. A good example of this was a while back on a auction site (bring a trailer i think it was) there was a nsx for auction and it had 300k miles but it had been taken complete care of by its owner and look brand new from the factory it even had the original paint if I remember correctly.
The term clapped has been around for a long time. I didn't start with cars. It started with Gonorrhea. The term "the clap" was used to describe it. The origins of the term is from a botched French translation essentially meaning "House of Rabbits." Alluding to rabbits mating a lot. So Gonorrhea became known as the whore house disease, or "the clap." Where exactly the crossover started is unknown. But here is an old Navy wivestail I was told about it. A French and American Navy ship were in port together. The French and American sailors were out in town together as they stumbled upon a house of ill repute. As an American sailor was leaving the whore hous scratching his genitals, the French sailor exclaimed "les clapiers!" And the American sailors misunderstood and began clapping for thier shipmate who had contracted Gonorrhea. From then on, it became a tradition to clap for and satirically cheer on your shipmate for his visit with the women of the night and contracting "the clap." From then on, it was given that name and stuck. When the term "clapped" originated, it was in reference to a woman who was "used up" for lack of a better term and implied she was riddled with STDs. Somehow, that term jumped to reffer to anything that was used up and gross. The transition to cars is easy to see. I heard the sentence, "You don't wan't her, shes probably clapped." a few times predating my introduction to the car scene. It's an interesting and somewhat gross origin story, but its fascinating, especially being able to trace it back to the early days of the American Navy. I take a lot of pride in us in the Navy, being the alleged origin of that phrase.
You should make a video about the funny terms of random car stuff such as the poor people buttons for the blank buttons that don't have anything cause of the options or trims😂

In a game I play called automation. I made the Mr Bean car and gave it a 900 horsepower turbocharged inline 3, The fact that it's all-wheel drive doesn't even matter as it still pops wheelies
The GNX, yes, non car people won't know how brutal they are and assume it's just another boring Buick that looks and goes like a brick, but the Jensen Interceptor has always been a unique-looking, hand-built, rare V8 grand tourer. @Sambrown6426 a Buick Lucerne is no where near a land yacht its just a full size luxury car at 207 in long not like a 74 Electra for example which was 232 in or 19.33 ft long hell even compact American cars back in the day were over 200 in long like a Buick Skylark for ex was around 17 Ft long where as the later generations shrunk back to 181 in or 15 Ft long while the E80 gen of the Toyota Corolla was 168 in or 14 Ft long

@@AK.__ Oh, I know what a gnx is. Which is why my original comment says, to the unsuspecting.
@@AK.__also, you ever heard of debadging
I seen a 1951 Hudson Hornet yesterday in great condition. I saw Doc Hudson from Cars
I kid you not, donut just posted a clapped out 350z video while I was watching the clapped out segment here😂
"Sleeper" is used in truck, bus, and railway as well community, albeit it was interpreted a bit more literally:
• A type of truck cab ("sleeper cab") that had a bed(s) to allow its driver to sleep.
Pretty sure some clapped out cars are better taken care of than I take care of myself 😭
This dude is the penguinz of car community.
I hate whenever people see I a high mileage car and immediately call it clapped out because yes some cars that made it that long were used and abused but other were taken complete car of. A good example of this was a while back on a auction site (bring a trailer i think it was) there was a nsx for auction and it had 300k miles but it had been taken complete care of by its owner and look brand new from the factory it even had the original paint if I remember correctly.
people are just ignorant theres no fixing that we can just complain to eachother about it lol
The term clapped has been around for a long time. I didn't start with cars. It started with Gonorrhea. The term "the clap" was used to describe it. The origins of the term is from a botched French translation essentially meaning "House of Rabbits." Alluding to rabbits mating a lot. So Gonorrhea became known as the whore house disease, or "the clap."
Where exactly the crossover started is unknown.
The first time I heard poverty spec was from stradman years ago
i feel called out, my family has an 03 toyota camry that just recently passed 300,000 miles lmao
I’m trying to get to that point with my rav4
9:57 basically you are calling my cheapest spec iphone 15 poverty spec.
just jokes, not trying to get offended.
Edit: commented before seing the iphone part, now I'm offended.

Much Love and appreciation Bladed. ❤👍😃
My b9 s4 has 150k miles. Its in better condition then most cars with 30k miles.
The only way youd know its not a "new" car is looking at the odometer.
Really not hard to take care of stuff.
Unfortunately it had a crap paintless dent repair on a fender which i can see clearly. But knowbody notices it.
Other then that and some wear on driver seat everything's still new
😂😂 damn i guess i ever thought of these terms out sides of the car community
Sleeper hit is a film that initially has poor box office performance, but eventually improves in the succeeding weeks. Theaters prefer this, as the older the film, the larger portion of sales they can keep.
You ok Bladed? You made a post two months ago about a shoulder fracture and you haven’t posted since. Has it gone bad? Has it gone well? We need to know
Love and support from Delhi, India
Always find it funny when someone says "my car is bone stock except..." then lists half a dozen modifications.
I love the sleeper term. Past couple cars I’ve driven I’ve thought like “What if this car could fuckin, HAUL?!” 😂
In a game I play called automation. I made the Mr Bean car and gave it a 900 horsepower turbocharged inline 3, The fact that it's all-wheel drive doesn't even matter as it still pops wheelies
Talks about sleepers. Shows a GNX in the thumbnail, and a Jensen Interceptor in the vid. Sleeper? Those two?!
Yeah, to the untrained eye its just "another" regal lol.
The GNX, yes, non car people won't know how brutal they are and assume it's just another boring Buick that looks and goes like a brick, but the Jensen Interceptor has always been a unique-looking, hand-built, rare V8 grand tourer. Very odd choice, except if "I don't know WTF that car was" = "sleeper", somehow.
@@j.moneyfilms if you can identify a Buick Regal, you know what the GNX is.
@@ImInLoveWithBullaMy father has a story of getting drugged by GNX in his foxbody mustang when they first came out, he thought it was a regal until it finally caught up and passed him lol
Back then G bodies and similar shape cars where very common and even back in late 80s/90s where still very unknown, same goes with the syclones/typhoons
Nice to see how much Car Culture has grown.
Altima are sleepers then
They are grocery cars, but they always pass every car, even ZR1 C8😂
My dad has Altima, and I even did a vid where we gapping some V6 Mustang. I do suspect that the guy didn't race at all, but the vid was really impressive and I was cheered up at work.
@@AK.__v6 Altima? Or the 4 cyl? The V6 is the one from the G35 if I remember so pretty good to the 4.0 mustang of the same year😅
@@acenewholland564 I sure it was V4, cause Maxima had V6 and i wished we have one that time.

Bone stock has been around for a long time! I remember using it in the 90s!

Hahahaha povo pack and pleb spec, i love those terms 😂
1:46 he is charged 7 years in prison💀 for r4ping a woman with his friend, they both were drunk.
One term I think would sound pretty cool for someone who'll go entry-level for a car purchase, penny-spec. It saves the pennies on the dollar (or pound cos GB)
3:57 As someone who owns a bone stock 2009 Buick Lucerne full-size luxury land yacht, I can safely say that I plan to keep her that way forever. She's a great daily, and I don't feel like messing with her, these cars have enough common issues (mainly electrical, in fact, the blower motor just failed yesterday) as-is, and I have a feeling modding her won't make that any better
@Sambrown6426 a Buick Lucerne is no where near a land yacht its just a full size luxury car at 207 in long not like a 74 Electra for example which was 232 in or 19.33 ft long hell even compact American cars back in the day were over 200 in long like a Buick Skylark for ex was around 17 Ft long where as the later generations shrunk back to 181 in or 15 Ft long while the E80 gen of the Toyota Corolla was 168 in or 14 Ft long
@@courtneypuzzo2502 It's a land yacht compared to everything else I've driven, it's noticeably longer and wider than both of my parents' cars, which is a bit awkward for a first car, but a garage kept, well-maintained, 90,000-mile car from a family we know and trust for $3,500? I'd have been stupid to turn that down. The only unfortunate part is that it was an estate sale, the previous owner, who bought her new, passed away of old age in his 80's, and this sale was part of selling off his estate. I just wish I could've met the old man; we would've gotten along great
Bro just said gymcel. That's crazy!
Funny hearing Zenless Zone Zero music in the background 🤪
Ayo the clapped out Corolla looks cool tho, I like this hood style😂
Ok i just learnt about the term "Poverty spec" and if i see some guy with a base model Bugatti Chiron, ima go and say "So you bought the Chiron instead of the Chiron super sport? That's _poverty spec_ my guy!"
I like how on the forums that a base model M3 is called a “civic M3” 😂
When someone breaks into a house an see a gaming pc, they would probably steal that, but if they see an old office computer, nobody's gonna touch that
To be fair i'm proud of my BMW E91 poverty spec : shadow line + leather interior are the only 2 options it had when i bought it and now it looks nothing like factory and gets lots of head turns for a 20y/o bmw .
“my car is a sleeper because it runs on hopes and dreams”
8:30 my bro when i show him pictures of a 30 year old Mercedes sedan for sale that doesn't have black leather seats, electric adjustable seats with memory function that are also heated and ventilated in 3 different modes + the massage mode etc....
You can say for the sleeper computer it's more to protect it from thieves who want to break in your house and steal it. The thieves can see a Monster build and be like that's our target but having a sleeper look they don't want to steal it because they will say it doesn't look all that impressive
"doesnt cae-ke care of it..." 👍
as a relatively new viewer to the channel I clicked the video and after a few minutes I got jumpscared that it's uploaded just 1 hour ago
Been making sleeper pcs over 20 years..
“Marquise Brownlee”😂
Awesome vid keep up the good work
Nowadays I use "clapped out" to describe trucks with 8"+ exhaust tips where that's almost exactly what they sound like
To say something is "clapped out" or more specifically "clapped" as a negative thing has been around for much longer in uk schools. I remember calling friends dinners "clapped" it derives from a slang of an STD "the clap" aka chlamydia so it's an old term I the uk like very old ahaha
I want the car community to start calling people trying to talk about cars who don't know anything about them "NPCS." .
I was on RUclips Shorts once, and an NPC called a Ford Bronco a "Jeep Bronco." 😂😂😂
About the term "Clapped-out"
I believe it originates as a railroading term for an old, worn out locomotive that hasn't seen the maintenance it needs and is long overdue for a rebuild or even a full overhaul, and probably has more issues than a '93 civic owned by a 17 year old who thinks he's hot shit.
hey bladed! i have a video idea for you. ive been a car guy for years and just recently got into the motorcycle scene. ive watched all yoyr motorcycle videos and love what you do, i even decided the first bike im gonna get is the duke 390 based on your recommendation. smth to talk abt though, is what gear to get and how much you should expect to pay. theres obvious things like a helmet, jacket, and gloves, but i just found smth called a helmet bag which seems to be really important but i nevet would have thought of that
