Big thanks to Ben. Not many pros would be man enough to bear their weaknesses to all in an attempt to REALLY help others. You are a genuinely good soul.
Just started watching this channel this morning and took his lessos to mat and cracking the center of the club head every time. High level information not taught very often. And the drills are killer. They put you in the correct swing so all you have to do is swing with power and ball comes off the face with a solid crack.
Once again you have exceeded all expectations Bertie. The amount of actionable and precise information you are providing is beyond anything I have ever seen in golf instruction, or any other athletic instruction for that matter. You provide the conclusive data, the staggering ‘why’, and then you provided the devastating ‘how’. Truly actionable information. This is well beyond anything we have seen in golf instruction. Are you writing a book for publication with this? What an amazing companion it would be with Hogan’s book! The 2 holy grails of golf. Just when I thought you had explained it all you show me that I know virtually nothing about the swing and I have so much more to learn. Masterclass Bertie! Masterclass.
Very kind words, thanks Kris! The next video is going to be all about how Ben is getting on with the drills. Followed by an in depth look at "Why" we need to reach a lag impact and what benefits we can expect when we do! Stay tuned.
Excellent video. Great drills to encourage and improve correct lower body movement in the swing. Thanks to you both for the valuable insight into how to develop and hone a good efficient golf swing. So many You Tube golf enthusiasts are missing out in a big way by not subscribing to your channel. This series is ‘pure golf instruction gold’ and its free!
Another amazing video. Well done. Brave of the pro Ben, to post it and I'm looking forward to seeing his (already amazing) swing tuned up and tour level.
Ben is a "legend" for putting himself under the microscope. It's a testament to his commitment and curiosity to continue to strive for improvement. Lets hope lockdown ends soon so we can start enjoy playing again.
Great videos! Really enjoying watching them. The motorcycle but is “Counter steering” where you pull the opposite handle to turn the other way. I found that fascinating when I someone told to try it!
Another really useful video; this coaching series is essential viewing. It’s not just a quick fix as so many channels offer it thoughtful coaching and for me resonates with some swing developments I’m working on. Cant wait for next episode!
Having tried to play golf for the last 20 years with massive overswing and obviously terrible impact. Wow what brilliant drills, and just bought the DST 8 iron. At last a feel i can work on and rediscover a love of the game. Thank you so much.
Recently discovered this channel & teachings. I can’t wait to try what you have taught once lockdown is over...I had some lessons years ago from an instructor in Nuneaton (Warwick Stevens) who taught me to hold off club head through impact which resulted in my hands being ahead of club head at impact and my ball striking was amazing! I stopped doing what he said after watching too many you tube channels about “releasing” the club through impact and my game has slowly got worse. So many things you say resonate with me and what I was previously taught 👍
Thanks for commenting Darrell, You're not the only one dying to get back out on the course, but Spring is just around the corner. It turns out you're old pro Warwick Stevens was bang on. Although I prefer not to use the term "holding off the club" as it implies the player is intentionally holding the lag off with their wrists. If you work on the drills in the video the combination of your lower body lateral move added to rotation should mean you naturally retain the lag angle for longer in the downswing. When players simply "hold the lag angle off" if a player doesn't have an active lower body with torso rotation they handle drag, which is something we see a quite a bit when players first try to reach a forward handle position.
Picking this up again after seeing Bertie Cordle demonstrate to Brenden's "BeBetterGolf" 2? years ago after which I bought a DST iron but have not understood the principles as well as now. We all have a inactive lower body and at least 96% of us flip or are at best neutral at impact, therefore we can all benefit from these drills. Cannot wait to get back onto the course after the winter closure here in Canada.
Genuinely looking forward to seeing Ben hitting balls post lockdown, and will be working on these drills myself as I have similar issues. I take it the 8 iron compressor can be substituted for the wedge.
Absolutely! Just don't be tempted to make full swings. the purpose is to feel how the body moves in order to reach a lag impact. Work backwards from impact. If you can get someone to video your swing from a face on perspective in slow motion. Once you develop a feeling how the should move then start hitting gentle shots. Good luck and keep us updated!
Thank you for carrying on the lesson through lockdown...I’ve seen many professionals to fix my out to in swing path and turf before ball swing faults..nobody could fix it because I’ve got the static lower body and flip faults you so eloquently point out.. I’m on the verge of giving up as I’m not enjoying losing golf balls in neighbouring farmers fields 🥲
Thank God for Zoom, hey! Mark, please don't give up. If you slice the ball these drills will definitely help. So, many slicers, inadvertently fail to recognise that by moving laterally away from the ball in the backswing means they are left with a restricted turn (the trail hip will prevent a hip turn). This leaves the hapless golfer with only one way to get to the top of the backswing. Which is by lifting their arms to the top of the backswing independently of body turn. From there, invariably the golfer uses their arms alone in the downswing. So, a good thing to feel is that you stay stock still over the ball in the backswing and just rotate. By this I mean your lead knee moves forwards and your trail leg straightens a little, this move will give you a hip and shoulder turn and keep your arms and body connected. From the top feel like you're swinging in the direction of the right rough (just like in the video) good luck.
I genuinely felt the same Mark. This game can beat you up. Stick with it and please get in touch if you would like any advice. It gets a lot more enjoyable.

When you mention riding a motorbike, it’s called “ counter steering “ ie pushing the handle bars to the right will drop the bike tilting it over left to Negotiate a right hand bend and vice verser. Great video, I’m totally hooked, just ordered DTS Compressor 8i 👌👌
I have an upswing so requires my left foot to center the ball with driver but didn’t see my body tilt till I was able to video it as well... fixed and now longer, more central hit drives. Excellent coaching.. cheers
For me 2021 will be a move away from flip to lag swing. Honestly, been practicing more since I discovered DSTGolf (lightbulb moment) and with a very light warm-up I sit above the ball with boosted confidence knowing that I will get proper impact using the lag swing. I repeatedly hit the back of the net in the same spot, seems I have more control and power at the same time. Now I need to take all these on the driving range and on the course, but I do feel more confident than before. Rib bruiser, eh?
Very good drills. I have another one. Practice with a divot-indicator-mat. Only practice swings or with ball. If the divots are perfect on the target line, long, shallow, as wide as the club sole, left of the impact point with irons or right and left with woods, then you certainly have a lag-style swing.
Hi Hugh, I believe in conventional ball positions, however from experience 80+ percent of golfers don't actually position the ball forward enough. Which leads to the lead side breaking down prior to impact. The reason why the lead side breaks down, is to shallow the angle of attack so they don't plough the clubbed into the ground. This leads to the posture early extending and (head up) and chicken wing of the lead arm.
Mikeoscar. I notice that all top-flight golfers move weight into their left heel (for a RH golfer) on the downswing. For example, both of you do exactly that. I know (and I am certainly not a top-flight golfer) that if I fail to do that my strike pattern is all over the place. The need to do this has not been mentioned so far, I believe. Is that move just taken as read or is it not essential?
I play 55 Years Golf, unfortunately I never learned to use the lower body much more, now DST Golf Video and I train every day your exercises, all body part hurt, but I love it. Better than Sex !?
at( 2;50) his spine is leaning LEFT, tell me how in the world he can go forward?>>>HE CAN"T he has to now go back to his right in order to go to his left>>HE HAS a reverse weight shit!... here is the solution "set up with center BEHIND the ball, take the club back and hit it!!...SIMPLE!

Hi Grant, Yes Balance boards are useful.
How are you determining ball position? Forward is better?
Hi Hugh, I believe in conventional ball positions, however from experience 80+ percent of golfers don't actually position the ball forward enough.
