That three finger drill is brilliant guys. I just practiced it a bunch and filmed it in slo-mo, and sure enough..perfect lag and shaft lean without trying to create or manufacture anything. I expanded the drill a bit by doing it with three fingers, then adding a fourth finger from each hand and trying to recreate the same feel, then fifth finger etc. Then I filmed that and analyzed it, seeing if I reach the same positions with each added finger. What a great drill! It's a shame so many golf pros lead students down a bad rabbit-hole of hold this and pre-set that. Good lag and shaft lean is the natural consequence of a good fundamental swing.
You two are in the process of undoing about 40 years of swing rabbit holes and I can't thank you enough. Combining your general downswing proper shift concepts with a proper amount of shaft lean for my 59 year old swing speed has allowed me to hit the ball way more solidly with the driver and irons. Thanks again++++
For me the most important Golf instruction video in the Internet. Thank you so much! The lowering of the arms combined with letting go of the "lag" gives me max speed and consistency. I was very inconsistent with my driver and thin with my irons because I was sometimes too fast turning in the DS and because of this I either dragged my driver wide open thru the ball or pulled it right away or with my irons my chest was too open at impact and I wasn't able to reach for the ball. When I understood the (timing/speed) of the turn of the shoulders/chest in relation of the lowering of the arms, straightening of the right arm and getting rid of the LAG as shown in the video, I only had to find the right tempo between the lowering of my arms (as fast as I can) and my upper body rotation. Now my DS is in SYNC and I can swing as fast as I can and I really bomb the driver without holding anything back. And I am 59! Almost everybody, here on the range, suffers from going over the top because of trying to hit the ball with the turn of the body while leaving the arms on top. And I see so many amateurs trying to hold onto all the angles (bend of the right arm and the LAG in the wrist in the DS) which leads to all kind of miss hits and head scratching. There is one famous Ben Hogan video out there where he shows how he starts the DS with hips while holding the angles in wrist and right arm and all I can say to the one's who try this is: GOOD LUCK. You will need it.

This video is the best I've ever seen regarding lag. Not really surprised anymore because you're the only instructors that seem to capture my attention from beginning to end. I think the key is how you key off one another when clarifying a particular point in the video.
Can't overstate how great this video is. Now that I have a better understanding how the trail wrist works, I'm confidently releasing the lag and generating better contact and more power. I think I'll finally be able to break 110mph club head speed with my driver now. Thanks!
I am totally sold on letting lag out in that "point 08" seconds. In fact, I used to experiment a lot, and noticed I had a bunch of success when I "let myself cast". But in fact, I wasn't casting, I was releasing properly... I just felt guilty (said tongue in cheek) because I had it SO DRILLED into me that "casting" was bad. ANYWAY.... I struggle w pulled wedges, and pulled irons in general. In your video on pulled irons, Sean stresses getting rear (r for me) shoulder low. I don't disagree. But at the range, I have MORE SUCCESS fixing pulls by focusing on releasing lag in that "point 08 seconds" part of swing. I have LESS CONSISTENT SUCCESS fixing pulls with consciously trying to get r shoulder tucked and turned and low. HMMMM.... I'm thinking that by releasing lag correctly, my body, specifically left shoulder, reacts in the fraction of a second and pulls up .. leading to r shoulder going down. My left shoulder pulls up (not conciously), because if it didn't, with my correct lag release, my club would smack ground 8 or so inches behind ball. If any of this meshes with golf brains a lot bigger than mine (like AMG golf), is there something in here that might inform another comment or video from you guys on iron pulls? Thx for taking time to read. You guys are terrific, and have helped my game so much. R
Gentlemen, my mind is again blown. I had a light bulb moment when you mentioned that trying to hold lag can actually cause the club to tip out. As my swing improves I was still noticing on video that my club was tipping out, but not coming classically “over the top”. I could not figure out what was going on. However, with my desire to get lag and doing it by trying to hold the angle I think that was what was causing the club to tip out. I will definitely work this drill and continue to lament the fact that I used to read golf magazines relentlessly and all different kinds of instructional books about golf. More then half the stuff I read only served to lock my swing up and helped cause the problems that I am currently trying to get out of my swing. Again, thanks for clearing up swing misconceptions that are floating around out there.
This may be the best video on the subject. You’ve done some before but this is more distilled and highlights the key evidence without requiring the attention span of a lesson. I like watching those longer videos bc they’re such great experience builders but this watches like a succinct master’s thesis. Would love to learn more how this combines with loading and unloading the shaft because the way you presented this is so much clearer and a lot of shaft loading talk is clouded in special terms and elusive feelings.
Outstanding video and very clear explanation of a concept that is very misunderstood. I have been struggling to get shaft lean for years and some of it is due to trying to hold lag angle. Thank you!
Been waiting for this one. Helps to reinforce how current golf instruction is wrongly too focussed on holding onto lag. I’m glad to see it debunked so clearly. Definitely one of the best videos you’ve done. I really don’t understand why you aren’t the most subscribed golf instruction channel out there.
Gentlemen, I have really been watching and studying your videos intently over the past few months. I have worked on re centering with great success. I also have been working on my ability to get into the right position going into the delivery position, that holy grail of positions you guys talk about with getting the hands in front of that right thigh in the delivery position. That has been more difficult for me to achieve. I know a lot of things go into getting into that position. I, like many amateurs, often have the look of coming into impact and my hands are about the center of my body. It’s better then I have been in the past when I would have my hands even with my right thigh at impact. I would love to see you guys make a video talking about that holy grail and what we need to achieve in order to get there. Anyways, I am having a blast re learning the correct golf swing by watching your videos and I am also on the AMG Academy site. I am hoping for Christmas to maybe treat myself to AMG+ so I can show you my swing and after you have a laugh you can point me in the right direction. 😂 Keep up the good work! Peace.
Thanks for taking the time to comment, and for being an Academy member! We’re working on our next Pros vs Ams video that is going to cover that coveted delivery position we all want to be in. Hopefully Santa will be good to you so we can see exactly what is keeping you from getting there 🤓
There was one experiment showed that, physically and biometically, wrist joint (mostly ulnar bone) is the one which controls the range of lag angle, without any musle force (free fall), only arm ratation, the joint does timing and square the club face properly every single time. So in the other words, passive wrist motion with proper grip is the most easy way to control lag and square the club face. Then the club lean angle is controlled by leading shoulder position which acts like anchor point (body rotation and vertical movment), and the grip of cause (stronger grip, less release motion required). Nowadays, most pros keep passive wrist motion, at least during the downswing.
Very informative and to my knowledge generally unknown and/or misinterpreted. Also by well known well established websites which either favor the one wrist action or the other; hardly any of them show that both directions of the wrist are fundamental to the very phase of the swing they are in. Well done and thank you and keep up the good work. Looking forward! Piet Leguit, the Netherlands
OR just try and cast the club (it’s impossible) from the top of the backswing. It really helps you to feel connected with tons of leverage through proper extension.
You guys are sooo incredibly talented at instruction it blows me away. Really, you are amazing. I love your videos. I just wish this video wasn't 10+ minutes of how much amateurs do it wrong and 30 brief seconds of how to do it right with one swing of a great drill.
Great content as always - gotta try that drill! I have a request for a video: please explain what a "flat left wrist" is. When I grip a club, the back of my left hand becomes convex. When my pinkie bone is aligned with my wrist bones (from a down-the-line view), this looks to me like a "flat left wrist." If I freeze that position and look at it from face on, there is a signifiant angle ("cupping") between my index finger bone and wrist bones - the same exact position looks completely different depending on the angle! If my index finger bone is aligned with my wrist from face on, it looks like I'm pretty "bowed" from a down-the-line view. Everybody throws this term around but you guys are all about accuracy and a 3D look at this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
This FINALLY clicked for me in my practice today. I felt like I was losing trail arm bend and lag angle IMMEDIATELY in the downswing. Almost throwing or "casting". I've never felt such an easy, high launching iron shot. Definitely an "ah-ha" moment.
Eureka!!! I am normal able to create both lag and shaft lean, but by control, control and control creating tension, taking off a lot of power and speed. This explanation of the release of the wrist angles and the three finger drill gives such a clear picture of how to have the lag and lean with no effort at all. This video is saved in the folder "Gold nuggets"
... not to mention lowering and extending the R elbow earlier with the shift and turn to actually get the ball on target with square contact. Thank you again
Hi Guys, as always a great and informative video. Could you just clarify an issue on wrist angle and the meaning of ‘flat’. If I hold out my lead arm, my wrist becomes naturally slightly cupped/extended. It only becomes flat if I bow/flex it so that the knuckles are in line with my forearm. My question is when you refer to a ‘flat’ wrist do you mean it’s natural position as when the arm is extended I.e. slightly cupped or is it when the wrist is physically bowed so that the knuckles are in line with the forearm. Thanks
Great! Great! I’ve been muscling the down swing for years, and years in an attempt to get speed and distance. So many wasted hours! I just wish changing to a more relaxed feeling drop of the club was easier to pick up.
Great video as always. This explains why you can see a guy like Stricker who doesn’t appear to have much lag, but great shaft lean and impact alignments.
Am I right in saying that releasing lag therefore shallows the club? Gives the appearance of the shaft travelling through the right forearm as you let go of the angle
Nice graphics! Been missing you guys from long video instruction. This video was just what I needed. I’ve been chasing positions lately, and chasing positions is a death Knell in the swing. I’ve been holding angles in an attempt to maintain club face stability through the hitting zone. However, by holding angles, I’ve had this terrible feeling of getting stuck. My wrists have felt handcuffed on the downswing, like they were in a vice. I needed to be reminded not to hold angles, but to release them, and not to chase positions, because good positions are the result of a dynamic golf swing. Thanks, guys. Glad you’re back! 👊👊
There are still RUclips instructors that teach and demonstrate holding lag with hands way ahead until the hands area ahead of the body. I suffered the consequences. You guys put me right, let the club work unrestrained!
Great video again. Thank you. My issue when I try to release the lag is I often hit behind the ball - is that possibly a re-centering issue? How do I do this and hit ball first? Thanks.
If you are actually trying to release it, you are making it too active. Look at the 2 finger drill 11:00 min in. The club will fall there if you don’t have excessive tension. If that doesn’t sort it out, the it’s probably sequencing. If you want to try something, try on the takeaway or backswing (you might have a chance). On the downswing there can be no try. Happens too fast. Alan
found your great video on lag while reviewing your video short on keeping club face closed during impact, which I fins difficult to due under pressure. when I do you closed club face drill, it keeps my hands just in front of the club face just like you are showing in this shaft lean drill. so are they one in the same or at least helping me to finish impact in better position? thanks John
I'd like a video on club face control. Do you recommend bowing the left wrist and not rotating the forearms for consistent face control? or said another way, do you recommend working toward keeping the clubface outside the hands from DOL view, i.e. pointing clubface more toward the sky for longer through impact? at least for a over hooker of the ball.
@@Jayman83 any say what it will feel like for you, but the body/arms moves are the same. Because the ball is up and angle of attack up, shaft lean should be around zero 👍
Another Brilliant video from Shaun and Mike. Can I ask, when an Amateur comes to you, how much difference can you make to them in just an hour, because I've seen some of your videos in particular the 'Clearing the Hips - Pro's vs Ams' and the difference was remarkable. Thanks Guys.
I might be off but I started getting better with this by loosening my grip on the way back, feeling the club head and allowing it to take my wrists with it. In transition after the club naturally sets give a slight split second squeeze and feel the shot loose with pressure really coming out of my trail hand trigger finger. It’s a swing thought of mine I call it loose squeeze loose. Kind of got my rhythm down wit it also
Great stuff as always. Can you break down the hand path from the hair pin turn (transition )then holding lag, then to impact. When does lag start to get released? Thanks guys nobody does a better job.
This is a superb explanation. Would you say the club head gets there from having not had any forces on it our hands, or is there a little bit of hand action to help get it the lag out?
Would you say the higher end 8* of shaft lean as opposed to the 6* is possibly the club being a shade more open, and an optical illusion in itself like the flattened lag angle? (Not so much as more bowing?) ... And perhaps the faster speed is also closing at a slightly faster rpm as well right?
The flat left wrist angle makes so much sense. Should the wrist be flat or slightly "cupped" at address? I have a slight cup/extension and curious if you should lose that slight wrist extension between P1 and P2 as you start to add lag?
I suppose anything might be possible given enough effort, but the better question would be, why would you want to? If you could do it, you'd be doing the opposite of what every great player does in their swing.
There's just so many golfing videos telling you to hold trail wrist bend past impact. They even make a million training aids locking your trail wrist back. I just thought that was what one was supposed to do.
@@jakeallen476 Totally understand. There are a lot of opinions online about the swing. But thankfully, we're in a time where we don't have to rely on opinions on things like this. These things are easily measurable now. To reduce the noise and confusion, the first question you gotta ask when you hear something is, "was it measured." Next has to be what level of player the measurements were from. If the answer to #1 is "no", you're getting an opinion.
depends....most of the time golfers leave the clubface wide open when they do that drill so it can hurt more than it can help...and the speed happens late instead of at impact
Is doing the pump drill bad to do? Seems it releases and extends the arm/elbow, but does it also purposely hold the lag, or is this still a useful drill?
Amazing video guys! I've struggled with holding lag thinking it will naturally create shaft lean for years. Recent realized what you just taught, they have nothing to do with one another. Once again, another media myth you've disproven. Thank you so much!

So thats why I hit the ball a little low, too much shaft lean at impact for my swing speed (which isnt more than 83-85 these days with 7i). You guys are the best! Ive watched my swing on video tons of time, and swing plane looks descent and the ball tends to go straight (low hcp). So should I just try to release the club a little earlier from the top then??
I wouldn't release more immediately from the top. Maintain the angle, passively, for the first part of the downswing. Then try to release the angle in the 2nd half of the downswing. Never hold it. Let it go.
To unload the degrees of the club, instead of flicking wrists and get a castong feeling, trying to hold the angle, but feeling as if i tuck the LEFT elbow into my body through impact, and making the weight of my body go into the heel of the left foot gives me very good results, does this sound right to you guys?
@@AthleticMotionGolf I am new to Golf Long Drive just picked up a gold driver first time since 1987. Now I am trying the amateur long drive competition along with dieting and exercise. Also where are you guys located? Do you give lesson on a person swing?
Is creating shaft lean predicated in part by the arms position at the top? In other words, if the angle of right arm bend is greater than 90 degrees, won't the rebound affect from the top make forward shaft lean at impact difficult or not possible?
Ur channel is the best!! Just would like to see long drivers on grats like Jamie S or Kyle Brikshire to see their movements compared to the Pros. Is this possible??
Video idea, right side through vs left side ground push down and away. Is it one or the other and can right side through produce equal left leg ground pressure numbers?
This looks like the head bottoms out at or just pass the ball, great contact. How does this apply to the driver when you are suppose to swing up on the ball?
I was wondering when you spoke about the club head not getting ahead of the hands before it was below the hands would the same count for the follow through? As in the club should not get in the hands before it was above the hands? Just a brain 💨
Gentlemen, as someone who struggles with casting, I have been looking at training aids. do you guys have any opinion on two training aids, the Precision Impact Trainer and the Snap impact trainer? For what it’s worth I see good reviews on both these products, but I am always skeptical of training aids. Before I drop over a C note on something I would like to see if it has any value. Thanks in advance.
This is superb content. Would this concept of "letting the angle out" apply to pitch shots, and even short chip shots? I'm guilty of the old cliche of pulling the handle on those shots, leading to "inconsistency" (that's putting it mildly)!!
Think the more angle you use on pitch shots the more speed you create (and thus spin). But often with those shots you want to focus more on distance control. To do that, you'd want to create and release less lag angle with your hands, and focus more on using your bigger muscles (i.e. body turn) to generate speed. Basically, getting and releasing lag angle with your hands creates a tonne of speed but it's harder to judge it and replicate it the same every time, easier to do that with body turn instead. That's from the short-game chef too
@@AthleticMotionGolf if I am doing the drill and still seeing what looks like casting and flipping I am guessing the problem is something farther up in the swing chain.? I know you like to use the hanger on the club for wrist angles. Are you saying that trying to keep the hanger up against that left arm is not needed and that we should not worry about the right wrist and keeping it flexed till the delivery position?
making contact when hands are at the front thigh is key to golf in my mind. spent many years making contact with hands between legs with no shaft lean and played ok.
I'd be interested in your alls thoughts on the Precision Impact training aid because it certainly feels like your holding lag and not releasing the club. However using when Im using it, it's probably the best I have ever struck a golf ball.
Ok I like this video. What does a person with a strong grip/ cupped at the top do on the downswing? Everything on RUclips says bow on the downswing. Is that what you’re supposed to do?
How come pros have some angle while the wrists are by their right leg on the downswing while most amateurs have released the angle and have their hands farther from their right leg. Is there a drill to get your hands in a better delivery position while not casting?
Mike...." shaft lean comes from this ( left hand extensionl) vs that (left hand radial flexion). I have noticed the swing you teach promotes a flat left wrist at the top. Since I have been practicing this, a guy told me in a tournament what great lag I was producing. Also, I used to try to really set the club wide on the backswing only to collapse in at the top. No more! I am also trying to "throw" the club head from the top to dump the angle on down swing as my recenter and hip turn are faster... no more weak fades! Thanks coaches!
At the intro on shaft angle, where the proper angle is stated as 135 degrees, the angle with the club straight out so it makes a straight line was nominated as zero degrees - not so, this is 180 degrees.
@@AthleticMotionGolf Just one thing, I have had a lot of success with the golf aid the Precision Impact devise. This aid locks you in the right wrist angle, no release at impact. Locked in. So far working wonders for me. Thoughts?
@@ST-xg3gy In general, we're not big fans of training aids that lock you into a position or force you to make certain movements. We find the golfer relies on the training aid rather than learns to make those moves. Just our experience over the years.
This may seem far fetched but I also believe some Day in the near future technology will create a teaching aid with a gizmo similar to the Segway I think it uses gimbals or gyros to keep it upright (similar to a flight instrument called attitude indicator) once the gimbal or gyro spins up its rotational forces keep it upright and stable, if they could put one of those in a golf shaft and tune it to stay on a “incline plane” it could be revolutionary for golf teaching …. Am I completely insane? 🤯
That is not possible, if you understand what you are trying to do. Look at DrKwon'sGolf one arm drills. You must have a series of wrong concepts if you snap at the top. One of them is likely that you are trying to hit the ball. Yet, you are 'collecting' the ball. You are accelerating throughout the downswing into the dynamic center of the swing, which is about three feet beyond impact. The downswing starts soft and slow, and continues to accelerate all the way through to that center. It kind of cannot snap at the top. If you'd pour out a bucket of water or throw a fishing net, would that snap at the top?
@@wordclouds2906 respectfully, that is not correct. The hands accelerate quickly, reach max speed around mid downswing, then slow down into impact. And only slow even more post impact. This has been measurable for a while now.
@@AthleticMotionGolf How do you accelerate the arms/hands faster, while ulnar deviating and not steepening the shaft? My arms also tend to go too much down and not enough out when I try to get them faster, but I've heard you guys advise not to drive the elbow either?
@@AthleticMotionGolf The acceleration of the club head itself continues. I was referring to the club head. The hands - I do not know, but I think that you are correct.
Hey Amg, thanks for the clarification on shaft lean and lag! I've been using the tourstriker planemate and they use those interchangeably. This has helped me big time. As an aside, what are your thoughts on using the tourstriker planemate? I've been enjoying it, and would love to hear your quick opinion on it since I respect y'alls opinion. Keep up the great videos. I recommend them to everyone who enjoys detailed golf instruction.
I like their products but not a huge fan of a training aid doing that work that the golfer needs to do on his own. The plane mate pulls the club in transition (correct me if I’m wrong). So it eliminates the golfer having to do it. I’m sure it helps a lot of people but it’s not something we’ve used to help golfers.
@@AthleticMotionGolf copy that. I appreciate your opinion. I agree with that principle, and I guess that's why I do their prescribed protocols with the aid on and off so I'm not reliant on it. I think the aid + protocols are helpful in showing me how to keep my swing within the "rails" of a good swing. From there it's on me to take it off and replicate those feelings without it on. Just my 2¢ Again, thank you and I look forward to your next video.
@@AthleticMotionGolf What about the spoon drill that Scott Cowx uses? Where you try and keep a spoon (or something similar) tucked under your trail armpit throughout the swing. Would you advise against that as well?

This is an excellent video and coming at a poignant time for me: just spent 4 hours practicing holding lag! Outstanding video and very clear explanation of a concept that is very misunderstood. I have been struggling to get shaft lean for years and some of it is due to trying to hold lag angle. Thank you!
holding the angle has ruined a lot of swings!

Great video. Too many people these days preach out holding the lag which requires an excessive lateral bend that will generically lead to injuries.
no doubt

04:20 what do you mean by your right elbow hasn’t narrowed? Thanks
Very well presented.
OR just try and cast the club (it’s impossible) from the top of the backswing. It really helps you to feel connected with tons of leverage through proper extension.
I literally just discovered this for myself today. Really brought everything together.
You guys are sooo incredibly talented at instruction it blows me away. Really, you are amazing. I love your videos. I just wish this video wasn't 10+ minutes of how much amateurs do it wrong and 30 brief seconds of how to do it right with one swing of a great drill.
Sorry about that. We are always testing out our format. We appreciate the input !!!!
Excellent explanation of this issue. Best one (actually the only one) out there. You guys brought this together brilliantly.

Thank you!!!!
... not to mention lowering and extending the R elbow earlier with the shift and turn to actually get the ball on target with square contact.
Thanks
Just neural like you would make a fist
I like the new format with the graphics / writing. Appreciate the video as always, made huge improvements in six months because of yourselves.
Awesome! We love hearing that🙌. Thanks for the kind words on the production 🤓
Awesome video! Is this the same for the driver? Do you just move the ball forward in your stance but create the same type of lag?
Great!
Exactly right🙌
Absolutely 💯
Am I right in saying that releasing lag therefore shallows the club? Gives the appearance of the shaft travelling through the right forearm as you let go of the angle
Loved this video! Exactly what I've been trying to work on. And the way you guys explained it really turned on some light bulbs for me! Thanks!
great!!!
Great!!!! Glad it helped you
There are still RUclips instructors that teach and demonstrate holding lag with hands way ahead until the hands area ahead of the body. I suffered the consequences. You guys put me right, let the club work unrestrained!
Great video again. Thank you. My issue when I try to release the lag is I often hit behind the ball - is that possibly a re-centering issue? How do I do this and hit ball first? Thanks.
Very likely, yes. Could also be too much side tilt out of the top.
Alan
found your great video on lag while reviewing your video short on keeping club face closed during impact, which I fins difficult to due under pressure. when I do you closed club face drill, it keeps my hands just in front of the club face just like you are showing in this shaft lean drill.
so are they one in the same or at least helping me to finish impact in better position?
thanks
John
I'd like a video on club face control. Do you recommend bowing the left wrist and not rotating the forearms for consistent face control? or said another way, do you recommend working toward keeping the clubface outside the hands from DOL view, i.e. pointing clubface more toward the sky for longer through impact? at least for a over hooker of the ball.
Gotta first figure out why you’re hooking it. You won’t have much success just trying to change the wrist angles through the hit.
Great video guys! Would the feeling be the same with the driver or would it be just more of a sooner release because the club is so much longer. Thanks
A pretty substantial change can be seen in a hour, especially if the player’s concepts for what they’re doing is off.
What fingers on what hands do you use to do the drill? You glossed over that so fast and despite numerous reminds it was very unclear. Thanks
This is a superb explanation. Would you say the club head gets there from having not had any forces on it our hands, or is there a little bit of hand action to help get it the lag out?
theres some
Fixed my slice, shot a 41 on a 35 9 hole, first year playing, cleaning golf balls, and watching this. Sometimes life can be beautiful.
Thank you. Very Helpful
Could all be factors for sure 👊
Thanks for the new video. You guys make the best content out there!
Thank you!!
As you discussed there are teachers who encourage a hold the lag and release the lag out beyond the ball
If that really worked there would be no scoop/flippers. There’s way more to it than just hold the lag and release it as late as you can.
The flat left wrist angle makes so much sense. Should the wrist be flat or slightly "cupped" at address? I have a slight cup/extension and curious if you should lose that slight wrist extension between P1 and P2 as you start to add lag?
Most players will be slightly cupped at address and slightly cupped at the top. No need to flatten between👍
Excellent explanation and important concept to understand! P.S. like the presentation style with Colour’s and voice over!
Glad you like it - thanks for watching!🙏🏻👊

is it possible to hold the angle in the trail wrist while downcocking with lead wrist?
I suppose anything might be possible given enough effort, but the better question would be, why would you want to? If you could do it, you'd be doing the opposite of what every great player does in their swing.
There's just so many golfing videos telling you to hold trail wrist bend past impact. They even make a million training aids locking your trail wrist back. I just thought that was what one was supposed to do.
@@jakeallen476 it needs to be coming out though the hit
@@jakeallen476 Totally understand. There are a lot of opinions online about the swing. But thankfully, we're in a time where we don't have to rely on opinions on things like this. These things are easily measurable now. To reduce the noise and confusion, the first question you gotta ask when you hear something is, "was it measured." Next has to be what level of player the measurements were from. If the answer to #1 is "no", you're getting an opinion.
Good video. so is it a bad idea to practice the swoosh drill. Hearing the woosh after impact. As this is trying to release the angle.aftet impact
depends....most of the time golfers leave the clubface wide open when they do that drill so it can hurt more than it can help...and the speed happens late instead of at impact

How does the shaft lean angle translate to dynamic loft on the club face at impact?
If I understand your question correctly… leaning the shaft forward delofts the club face.
Let it go.
Thank you. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻😊

To unload the degrees of the club, instead of flicking wrists and get a castong feeling, trying to hold the angle, but feeling as if i tuck the LEFT elbow into my body through impact, and making the weight of my body go into the heel of the left foot gives me very good results, does this sound right to you guys?

Is that flute drill also a connection to grip pressure not manipulating the club by holding angles?
when you make a normal swing you can grip it with pressure but the drill teaches you to use momemntum and sequencing

Is creating shaft lean predicated in part by the arms position at the top? In other words, if the angle of right arm bend is greater than 90 degrees, won't the rebound affect from the top make forward shaft lean at impact difficult or not possible?
It can certainly add to the work coming down. Not impossible, but not easy 😉

Video idea, right side through vs left side ground push down and away.
Is it one or the other and can right side through produce equal left leg ground pressure numbers?
trail leg doesn't really push on downswing
This looks like the head bottoms out at or just pass the ball, great contact. How does this apply to the driver when you are suppose to swing up on the ball?
Ball more forward. Spine more titled back. 💥

That's from the short-game chef too
So any attempt to physically force lag to get shaft lean is a fruitless endeavor and lag and shaft lean is a result of a dynamic swing?
That’s a good way to look at it👍
@@AthleticMotionGolf if I am doing the drill and still seeing what looks like casting and flipping I am guessing the problem is something farther up in the swing chain.? I know you like to use the hanger on the club for wrist angles. Are you saying that trying to keep the hanger up against that left arm is not needed and that we should not worry about the right wrist and keeping it flexed till the delivery position?
making contact when hands are at the front thigh is key to golf in my mind. spent many years making contact with hands between legs with no shaft lean and played ok.
Couldn’t agree more🙌
Great video. Thanks
Thanks for watching 👊
I'd be interested in your alls thoughts on the Precision Impact training aid because it certainly feels like your holding lag and not releasing the club. However using when Im using it, it's probably the best I have ever struck a golf ball.
Havnt tried that one
Great video! How many instructors out there are advocating releasing past the ball - so not good.
yes do doubt
how about holding the trail wrist back?
Terrible idea
Ok I like this video. What does a person with a strong grip/ cupped at the top do on the downswing? Everything on RUclips says bow on the downswing. Is that what you’re supposed to do?
How come pros have some angle while the wrists are by their right leg on the downswing while most amateurs have released the angle and have their hands farther from their right leg. Is there a drill to get your hands in a better delivery position while not casting?
that's because of poor sequencing. The drill in this video is great for that.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻💪🏻🏌🏿♂️
That shaft lag at impact comes naturally from maximum arms extension way AFTER impact
I don’t try and hold lag but I must do it because as soo as I thought of casting the club more I hit far better shots.
“most lag in the game” sounds like Sergio 🤔
haha :)
But very deceiving because his downswing is pretty flat at that point
Yup, because pictures never lie. Lol.
At the intro on shaft angle, where the proper angle is stated as 135 degrees, the angle with the club straight out so it makes a straight line was nominated as zero degrees - not so, this is 180 degrees.
Great to see you back!
I'm first!
Yes you are !!
Very Sergio-like lag and inside the line downswing on that yellow pro...
This may seem far fetched but I also believe some
Day in the near future technology will create a teaching aid with a gizmo similar to the Segway I think it uses gimbals or gyros to keep it upright (similar to a flight instrument called attitude indicator) once the gimbal or gyro spins up its rotational forces keep it upright and stable, if they could put one of those in a golf shaft and tune it to stay on a “incline plane” it could be revolutionary for golf teaching …. Am I completely insane? 🤯
How to I not release the club to early though. My iron get the snap at the top of the swing not at the ball
The arms have got to lower. We've got some videos on the way to help with that 👍
That is not possible, if you understand what you are trying to do.

Just my 2¢
Again, thank you and I look forward to your next video.

This is an excellent video and coming at a poignant time for me: just spent 4 hours practicing holding lag!
