In this video, we're going to show you how you can stop hitting pulls.
This is one of the most frustrating shots in the entire game, but it's also one of the most common shots that we see amateur golf players make aside from slicing the ball or hitting it fat.
We're going to show you how much damage this shot can cause & how you can keep it out of your golf game!

it really is amazing. I watched this a year ago, it never clicked until about a week ago. once you feel that move of hands away (corner of room) to start the downswing it all makes sense.

This could legitimately be the best advice I've heard since learning golf, because the 'arm down the chest' movement is so powerful because its not only very visual and you can physically feel it as it moves down your chest. I'm practicing this right now and it's transformative.
I genuinely cannot thank you two enough, youve really saved my soul.
I was at a place where I wanted to quit the game I love, due to my over-the-top swing, that I couldn't fix.
    I'm so relieved.

You guys are awesome. Fantastic video. Watched this right before going out to play 9. Shot a 40 (14.2 handicap). I had 3 birdie looks and 1 eagle look (putting was terrible today). I can't remember the last time I hit that many greens in regulation. I even had a shot that I had not experienced very often. I hit my pitching wedge fat, but instead of dribbling 30 yards in front of me, it was only 10-15 yards short, and went right at the target. Looking down I saw an extremely shallow, dollar bill shaped divot. Turns out I think I've been fighting this most of the last year playing golf. Going to hit the range later to solidify this feeling. Thanks fellas.

I've been waiting for this one for a while! I had this issue last year and there isn't a lot of content around this issue. A majority of swing fix content is surrounded around coming over the top and slicing the ball. When I was pull hooking the ball I thought I was doing opposite of over the top and that made my swing worse. The start line is something I had to figure out and nobody has really addressed this. Great video, thanks!

My "Bad Miss" has always been the "Pull" to "Pull Hook" as I progressed up into "Longer Clubs".
I am more conscious of "getting my Hands Down" at the start of the Downswing, and while this has lessened the Severity of the "Pull" to "Pull Hook" these can still be there.
In the last week or so I remembered a Freddie Couples move of "creating an Inside Loop" with the Hands and Club.
I'll focus on this "Rearward Hand Path" move in my next range sessions.
      Thanks, Guys.

Such good technical advice, but even moreso, such brilliant swing-change advice. Had a lesson today trying to fix this, and did exactly what you said. Got the 'feel' using a few drills, then went and hit balls full speed. When my coach was recording me 'feeling through' the new motion in some 30% speed practice swings before hitting, it was all good. But as soon as I went to hit the ball the old motion came in again. So yeah, really appreciate how good you guys are with the swing technically, but also in terms of habitual change!

Thanks for the vid. There’s tons of videos on how to fix/help a slice, but very few on hooks/pull hooks. I’ve been fighting them for 6+years. And it’s more frustrating then a slice. Most golf courses cater to the slicer but definitely not someone who hooks the ball. I fight over top and get handys and close the face and it’s not pretty.

I've struggled for years with knowing what to do with my arms/hands in the downswing. I never understood how I could possibly bring the club back to the ball by dropping my hands and turning. I've always had an over the top "arm-sy" swing as I tried to generate all the club head speed by moving my arms/hands faster. It is very inconsistent and I never know what swing I'll have when I go out to play. The last month, I've been pulling my short irons and wedges 20 yards to the left so this video couldn't have found me at a better time.
This explanation clicked for me when no other has! You're absolutely right about practicing this drill at slow speeds first. I've been able to learn the feel as I slowly ramp up the swing speed. Thank you!

For the last month I have been working on trying to pick up a little speed and that has created this dreadful PULL shot that I could not figure out why I was doing this. Before a started to add more speed this did not happen. This video shows what I have been doing by trying to rotate faster thus putting my heads in the wrong path.

I tried a lot of remedies including trying to push the left side back at impact more and more. but to no avail. I did not realise that the problem was caused by path and my left upper arm moving away from my chest too soon. Thanks to you! I would suggest in a similar fashion a slow-motion Matt Wolff golf swing, hitting a 7-iron only 110 yards with a push draw, would help 95% of golfers improve their game - I used this drill many times this last summer on the range to help every golfer that needed help. The over the top crowd, both slicers & pullers, need to do this in slow motion for about 50 balls because any attempt at speed will immediately get the handle going out until their brain gets the feel of looping the club opposite to what they usually do

My round on Sunday consisted about about 35-40 pulled shots. After watching your video and a few practice swings it became so clear that my issue is a path problem caused by my hands. I can't wait to try this on the range tonight. Thank you so much.
One thing I've never been able to figure out though. Why is the pull such a powerful shot? In my experience, whenever I pull a shot it's an absolute rocket and easily carries 1-2 clubs more than my normal shot.

    • @garyarnold5699
      @garyarnold5699 2 года назад

Mike Stock, I have been told it’s because you are hitting the ball with a closed(hooded) club face and making solid contact. Do your pulls usually draw a little(or a lot)? I practiced this today and when done correctly I had a nice push to the right that drew back towards the target anywhere from 5-10 yards and went 10-25 yards farther than my “normal” straight shot. My divot was right of my target when done correctly where my normal divot is pointed left of target(even on straight shots). Still need much more practice to get it consistent but I am excited about what I saw and felt today. Hope you get the same results. Now if I can get my green reading more accurate I might have a solid game.

Great video. Shaun and Mike, is this thought correct? Your feedback appreciated. If one was standing upright the concept is the hands just lifting in the backswing (by raising the arms at the shoulder joints and bending the right arm); in the downswing just lower the arms and straighten the right arm. Now make the same movements but bent forward in golf posture. No need to pull the hands further back behind you in the downswing to create the initial movement back; just drop the arms and straighten the right arm; the bent forward posture means the hands will initially travel back away from the ball.

You are so right about alignment....aimed right is a disaster....shanks, pulls...and thought I was aimed at the target...lol.
Now my brain thinks I am aimed 10 yards left when in reality aim is perfect. So difficult to get the brain recalibrated. I must pick a spot in front of the ball towards my target or I am back to aiming right...ugh.
Aim straight and I have a chance of getting the arms inside/out on the downswing....and no more pulls/shanks due to outside/in path.

i think everyone was taught to pull the left hand onto the ball. the key is to just simply keep the left arm out of the peripheral vision on the way down. the hands and arms won't get trapped, or pull round, and the club will find its arc in a connected movement. and, the left chest will react against the left arm, in the start of the downswing, and turn to left. the left arm and the left chest will then work as antagonistic opposites; which will increase the coil in the start of the downswing.

Hello Guys, great content as always. Working through your swing system and watching your videos has really allowed me to understand the need to get my arms moving before I press the rotate button. At least on some slow motion swings, this has made a big difference to my ball striking. Regarding this video, however, I have a question on lead arm adduction. I have seen and read that lead arm abduction is important for a correct golf motion. When I see Shaun swing,, especially in the first drill, to my eyes, the left arm stays pinned on the chest. Given I’m not an instructor, I’m likely to have this wrong, but would really appreciate your view on this point.

    • @AthleticMotionGolf

The motion of the left arm can work down the chest but it will not be pinned to the chest... What you want to avoid is the left arm being pinned to the chest(upper and lower arm). Part of what youre seeing is the camera angle distortion also :)

Amazing video as always. I very much struggle with the nomenclature then concept of how old you are defining steep hands / shallow path and shallow hands / steep hands. I have watched probably 50 if your videos and still struggle with this concept. Would you ever consider a video to contrast and compare the two different concepts? Do you have a video from your previous work that I missing? I would love to see it. As always, amazing work. Watching your videos has kept me sane in the pandemic. I cannot thank you enough.

Hi Gents, Great video! However I have to ask for clarity, the words turn and rotation are used interchangeably ie demo of drill. They are are not the same, please clarify what brings the club back to square.

I seem to pull my short irons and wedges.. when I get over the ball now I try to stay with the shot and follow through towards the hole. Seems to help. Thanks

Stop revealing all the secrets of the golf swing!!! I really don't need more competition out there.

I’ve been told I hit left because of early extension. What this tells me is that this is not the cause, it’s how I start my down swing with my hands. That down and away move feels very foreign but quite free, like that’s where the club wants to be (clearly!!).

So would a good feel be to leave your back facing the target longer in the transition to give arms time to come down?

For me when you point out the error it detracts from the lesson. Just as the lesson starts to connect the diversion to the error confuses the message. Love you stuff most always.

Thanks for this good info. I've been a low handicapper 'puller' for years. My question is , do golfers who transition to what you are saying ever get a case of the 'shanks' as they pull the club down and around from the inside like this?

Great video. With my long woods and driver its hard to keep hands close to right thigh and still hit it pure

just try to make sure you don't take the hands at the ball in transition

Watched this like 5 times finally clicked. Absolutely puring range shots. Could shape it both ways with any club. Any trajectory I wanted. Could swing as hard as I wanted and still hit sweet spot. Can’t wait to take it to the course.

This is great info! I’ve got bad golfers elbow and flinch! I anticipate the pain at impact and yank it left. Against doctors advise, I still play even with mild pain. What can I do to avoid the flinching? Sometimes the flinching also causes my wrists to break on the follow through and not pronate.

Excellent demo to cure a pull...i thought the arms need to be quiet in a swing...does the pivot shallow the arms?

thanks for this!!! the pull was soooo frustrating.. cause contact with the ball was so nice.. sounded nice...felt nice.. but result would be 30 yards right of target and long ( I am a lefty).. next golf technology needed would be a LEFTY button on youtube so it would flip your video around and AI would change left to right and right to left every time those words were used... ;o) thanks again from up here in Canada...
hope to visit your centre some day when travel opens again!
