Another masterclass, Mr. Harrington. It is rare that a Hall of Fame level major championship winner has enthusiasm like yours to teach the masses. Respect. 🙌🙌
After doing some research I'm starting to realize that many Pros use either counterbalanced shafts or at least high balance point shafts. Are any of your clubs a higher balance point?
How many times can you say 'release' in one video? :D Great tip though. I wish I knew this a few years ago when I was trying to lean the shaft like a mofo.
Spot on ive been watching so many youtube coaches lately and my swing has never been this bad so its avesome to see Padraig explaining in a easy to follow video 🎉🙏

Its refreshing to hear this. Many coaches have told me I flip because I release too early but the strike is so much better when I do it compared to what they try teach
You probably are flipping. It can take a lot of time to iron these tendencies out of your swing. I spent about 1 year doing it hitting about 500 balls a week. Eventually got there with the right feels like the one in this video.
And this is why I love this channel, who uses GTFA as an analogy lol. Such a simple explanation i love it. Add some ground forces (almost jumping) and you will really crush the ball.

When you say, “pull”; are thinking about pulling your hands or with your shoulders and back? And, are you trying to pull the butt of the grip towards the ball?
@@blue24563 Paddy? Is that you? Did you change your name just to answer this question? What made you think I would care what you had to say if your name was Davis Graham? Hi Paddy. I notice you are doing something with your right upper arm to start down: you are reconnecting it to your torso. I think it’s this action that gives the natural lag look on the way down. I think Harvey Pennick called it the magic move. Idea for a video?
Class act!! Great golfer! Great teacher! Does this apply to woods? Especially off the tee with a driver or 3w? Thanks again and keep up the awesome work!
It’s funny I recently tried shallowing my swing and bowing my wrist at impact and I had a lot of shaft lean. I lost a ton of distance. When I do the opposite and release the club really hard I get higher flight and more distance
Not super clear on the "brakes" I hit duck hooks with my driver and over hook irons usually and I don't feel like I am releasing (or what i think releasing is). I am not holding lag but still pulling and pull hooking mostly with driver. Love the tips Padraig
Common sense instructions from padraig, now if you can just come to Carlisle and have a look at my whole golf swing and technique I'm sure to break 90/80!top banana sir!
I've always thought that releasing the club means rolling it over after impact. After watching this I think it's just letting go of the club after impact. That means that the club can still be released for a fade.
Novice observation here. I think the reason many golfers manufacture lag by dragging the hands instead of letting the club release is because of poor body movement/sequencing. They are not getting to their lead side early enough in transition where the hands can be in a position to benefit from lead side extension that slows the hands and releases the club head. Simply put, lag is a product of good body movement and sequencing.
how do i deal with too much dynamic loft? i can generate 103 speed with a 7 iron but I'm an armsy player body doesn't do a ton of rotating in downswing so I hit it way higher than is optimal.
Once again, an excellent video. Would it be possible to make a video of the backswing? I often see with myself and my playing partners the tendency that the hands continue to move although the shoulders have already stopped turning. Good luck at the US Open
Something eye opening to me was watching the gears data on pros and seeing that they actually make impact with their hands closer to their back hip. The whole shaft lean lag thing is all from hip drive and rotation. They just delay the strike point by driving to the front side and opening up. There isn’t a single pro who drags the handle
You just helped me incredibly. I have been a front arm dragger as a means of maintaining a square club face and it has led to hooks off the tee. Now I know why, thanks Paddy!
This will help my driving so much. An absolute brilliant explanation of the golf swing. The very best of luck at LACC Padraig and an early congratulations on reaching 100k subscribers. Thanks for this wonderful lesson
You and my coach are cut from the same cloth, i always was holding onto the angles with the hands miles forward and he said plain and simple " what hits the ball the hands or the clubhead " that changed my game .
Thank you for all the knowledge you put out there with these lessons. Your points about getting the club head to release resonate with me. Will absolutely give this a try at my next range session. Using the lesson from your grip video and your swing videos, I have corrected a slice that I struggled with for so long it made me give up the game for a decade and a half. Am getting back into playing now and struggling with taking too much divot with my irons. Think it may just be a matter of getting the feel of my clubs and getting the flow back in my swing.
I love the simple oldschool style to just release the clubs open or release it close hit draws and fades. I try and play with a square face and just do the same thing let me release and finish dictate what shot I want to hit
All of this makes sense but it's not gonna work if the club golfer approaches impact with an open clubface (whether it's via a weak grip or cupped left wrist).
Also, another key element you demonstrate but don't mention is the "braking" of the left hip. You rotate it out of the way rather than allow it to excessively slide.
When you lift the club up -- it actually goes faster. Hands are going up at impact. Look at Tommy Fleetwood - he holds the angle - but he turns through it to release the club.
I used to have a nice high fade. Went to a coach, and he preached shaft lean, don't flip, strong grip, hit a draw, etc etc.... for over a year I worked on this just to hit pull hooks 25 feet off the ground. Now Im having to work hard to get my nice high fade back. Chasing shaft lean is the worst thing I ever did.
Like Padraig says, it has to be taught with the right context. I had a bad casting motion a few years ago. I kept practicing shaft lean at impact and swinging the weight of the club. I improved massively, but started hitting left pull hooks. Then I discovered this tip of pulling up to release the clubhead and it transformed my ball striking to another level.
@@blue24563 when I went to get lessons I didn't really even want to change my swing I hit the ball fine. I just wanted to learn the finer points of golf. I let someone talk me into all these unnatural ideas and feels. Never again. I hit a fade, will always hit a fade. I can go months and months with never hitting a draw and play golf just fine.
I have only one question at this time. Where the hell have I been? I have been watching You Tube golf instruction videos for eons and have had private in-person instruction from numerous instructors without any discernible improvement. I recently watched tips #24, #43 and #47 and have seen an immediate improvement in my ball striking with not a lot of practice.
