I have watched ALL of your videos and I believe this is absolutely one of your best. Although you have described these movements previously, this time you put it all together so well…at least for me! Thanks gentlemen, much appreciated.
I have been playing golf poorly for over 30 years, I always thought that I was pretty athletic (played a lot of baseball, basketball and tennis growing up) with decent strength, 5 - 11"/170 lbs, but I have never been able to find a good golf swing and to get any distance on my drives (less than 200 yards, with poor iron shots). I am always trying to understand what the correct elements of the swing (read Ben Hogan's book, and I love his golf swing, his seems very flat without much height, but still with a lot of width away from the body) are and what I should feel on each. I watched a ton of videos (many all over the place and contradictory) and I saw in my swing that my right arm was too tight and to low to my body on the backswing. I am hoping to use your information, especially raising the the right right arm to generate some width and hopefully club head speed. Thanks, I will keep watching.
Video yourself side and back at waist height, preferably slomo, and take a careful look. Possibly you have a lovely smooth swing but are casting, causing low speed and shallow approach preventing hitting ball first. Like me.
This is the best-of-the-best golf instruction on RUclips. And It's not even close. The original video was great. This video is better. As a plus, this technique will fix a slice, because the magic move forces the club on plane.
Wow! Finally a video that describes the trail arm, location, movement and straightening sequence (to help shallow). I went to the range as I usually do, not expecting too much, as most RUclips videos don't seem to make much difference, but in this case it's a life changing event for me!! Really! I was on the range and by the third swing I was absolutely flushing every shot with power I never knew I had. The ball was flying so high and so far I couldn't believe it. My divot patterns were looking like the pro's too!! I almost started crying with joy as I have been searching for this feel for 35 freaking years!! I hit three large buckets as I couldn't believe what was happening.... I didn't want to stop but the range folks said it was closing time. I have a tee-time tomorrow and can't wait to show my buddies my new power....lol. I just hope this transfers over to my play on the course. As a thanks for changing my golfing life I want to send you $1k. Where do I send the check??🏌♀💰⛳😊
I am someone who had too many swing thoughts. Your videos even though very technical and bio mechanical in nature - do not make me overthink. I’m one of those people who needs to understand what is actually happening to create a swing flaw. Can’t tell you how much these videos have helped in last two weeks. Wish I had found this site earlier. Great stuff!
Really great video thank you! As someone who has tried to find my swing for over 4 years, my aha moment was when i realized with a 0.25 second down swing the hands have to move and move fast. This got me out of the elbow staying bent as i rotate and over-the-top position I donned for years. The other subtle but really key aha in the video is while yes there is a sequence of lower then upper body, but in 0.25 seconds if anyone tries to feel this step-process the hands are so late to the game and again over the top every time. Thinking weight shift and fast hands at same time helped get my hands where they needed to be leading into impact. All of your videos are incredibly eye-opening, esp for amateures like me that have been doing all wrong things you cover in your videos, thanks so much!!
That's a great way of describing it. I feel like I've been thinking about my golf swing all wrong even after all these lessons, and I totally get why. And I might be able to thank this video for that. I don't know why I haven't thought about it like trying to cast a rod, as if you were skipping a rock, or having your hands down low.
This is an excellent video, thank you so much. The information about the position of the right upper arm in relationship to the torso, discussed at 3:20 and following, was a great help to me. I had been searching for exactly that bit of guidance and found it nowhere...until I found your video. Your term "backswing chicken wing" is very apt. Great job, thanks again.
Wow this video finally helped me understand what I’m supposed to be doing when I swing thank you guys been trying to learn how to play for the last three months and just haven’t been able to put it all together and your not wrong about all the other RUclips guys giving concepts that do nothing but confuse beginners like me
Thanks for the great video guys! Lots of great explanation here that blends well with your other shallowing content. When this video ended I was thinking, “Man…I wish this would continue on to explain how to time this up with impact.” Do you have a video that fills that gap? I’ve been working on this move but in an effort to gain hand speed I struggle with contacting the ground too early (basically slamming the club into the ground). Thanks again!
wow this is brilliant. i didnt know what to do on the initial movement of the downswing. i've watched loads of video's but none of them explained the right arm position. i was trying to turn the hips right at the top of the back swing and it felt better. but what i was deffo doing wrong was the right arm movement. i was bringing the left arm across way to quick totally messing up the hand speed potential. its so simple to understand now. the rest of the downswing kind of sorts itself out once in the right position with the right arm drop. my wrists were always kind of flat anyway. i'll get a feel for the difference and see how this does. thankyou guys.
This is the best explanation I have ever seen on what the trail arm should do in the backswing and downswing! After playing golf for over 40 years I realize that I have never done the straightening of the trail arm correctly.
These last couple of videos were absolutely eye opening. They way you describe the arm lowering and straightening is the easiest way I’ve heard this explained. Feels like I can actually rotate now
There's a lot of "stuff" out there in the interweb about how to swing a golf club, but for my swing this video and your other video "Increasing Your Golf Club Head Speed" both helped me tremendously! Great insight, thanks for sharing the tips!
This is a great "final piece" video for me, reminding me of the unfolding action of the rear arm that you have previously talked about. After finally setting my wrists correctly to the club and fixing posture issues, I can actually unfold the right arm until impact without casting. It finally all makes sense. Thanks for all the work you've all done.
rick i never could understand what casting was until seeing the correct way. now i realise i was trying hard to cast. throwing all the power potential away. putting so much effort into the swing with now speed. i am just getting bac kto golf after a long layoff and couldnt understand why i lost 20 yards on my 7 iron. i do now. i was trying to gain more power but was actually losing it by casting.
You guys produce great videos and this video is not for the starter or beginner but for more established players who want more club speed. I wish I can afford to fly out to see both of you for improving my swings. Thanks!
Hey thank you guys for caring enough to help us , I wanted to ask it looks like your elbow gets behind your body but I know it's not , so is there a way that I can actually check mine and work on it until it becomes second nature and grooved in my mind
Hey Dennis I hope you get a chance to see this. This is Mike btw. I was told you made a recent post (on another channel) saying that we deleted several of your comments. I spoke to Shaun, and neither of us have deleted comments. So I’d did a search for your name in our comments section of the studio and this was the most recent comment that come up. I’d be happy to share the screen shot with you through email if you like. But I just wanted to let you know we haven’t deleted it hose comments. You’ve never been anything but courteous and respectful in your comments. Feel free to email me personally if you have any concerns or see this happen again. I hope you and the game are doing well!
What a video! I am a plus handicap golfer with "good" speed, but I know I can create more. I have even seen +130 club head speed in my speed training, but I am inconsistent with it. My normal speed is about 113mph. This video hit on all(?) my inefficiencies. Trail arm too bent at the top, trail arm not level to the ground, and elbow not lowering and straightening. So, I am losing energy at the top and trying to maintain lag with my trail elbow and not my wrists. So much good to work on here. I am interested to see how these changes will translate to more speed for me. Thanks for such a detailed video!
This was the true missing link for me. I really appreciate this video. Tested immediately on Trackman and saw 10-15% speed improve in 3 swings. Got better the more I got in sequence.
Your explanation of this part of the golf swing has to be the best I’ve EVER SEEN!! Once it warms up I have to work on this!! Can’t wait to see your other videos!!! 👍👍👍
THIS WORKED FOR ME!!! Just got off the range - hit farther, straighter, sweeter, and more consistent balls. My key was 1) getting the right elbow in the right spot at top of backswing and 2) lowering the upper right arm directly to the side first. Thanks men.
Great to hear and see the right arm tightening. Too many videos show no straightening and makes it hard to visualize getting the club head to the ball . Geat video guys!
thank you for such a clear explanation on how to use the right arm!!!!! I gave a women a lesson yesterday and had our most successful lesson yet. I enjoyed having the confirmation on how to use the drill that you used. thank you
Great videos as I an highly analytical and like to know the the how behind what to do. I find a lot of golf instruction on you tube tells you what you need to do however a totally different movement or trigger needs to happen to get something else to happen if that makes sense. Question 1) I am left handed and hit right so would I be at an advantage? I feel my left hand is dominant in generating the speed when I drop the club straight down behind me at least that is where my thought is during that transition. Question 2 is when I try to extend my right arm to create width it disturbs flow of the swing (i tighten up) however that extension of the right arm is what helps me keep my left arm straight, what can I do to still keep a left arm straight and remain fluid in my swing? What is your view on this?
Great video on what the right arm does even tho it took 13mins.i feel my right shoulder load/activate milliseconds b4 my left at start of swing. But no mention in this video of left shoulder loading to produce speed, the frisbee fling! which i feel is leading/firing milliseconds b4 right.
Great job explaining the drills. I did 25 minutes with the drills on the patio tonight, and I'll give it a go on the range tomorrow 👍. I like how high the hands are before transferring to the downswing.
Great content. I jus have a doubt and it is in regards of players like Fred couple that they do have the backswing chicken wing. How is he able to reposition his elbow to generate such speeds? Thanks for the video. Definitely have to work in this.
Great instructional video, as usual. I've seen you discuss this technique on your channel for the past few months. I'm glad to see how you put it all together in this one video. My friend and I played at the Biltmore Golf Course in Coral Gables this past weekend. I told him that I was working on just lowering the right arm to increase hand (or grip) speed. He picked up on that cue after playing several holes. So, he tried it out without telling me he was going to try it out. Instant baby draw (he normally plays a fade) and increased total distance by about 8 - 10 yards! In one instance, he hooked it a little more, but boy did it ever travel. I quickly noticed the difference. I asked him and he said I must have "subliminally" made him incorporate the technique. I must say this is unusual, though. It's not so easy that you'll just pick up this technique and your handicap will drop. You must work on it. Daily. Yes, daily. Get those neurons, dendrites, and axons to build upon and learn this new movement. It will be rewarding, I promise. Over the past few months, I've noticed increases in my irons--for example, my 8-iron normally goes about 147 in flight, I got it up to about 153. It's up to 158 when I tee it up and catch it flush. But, that's the thing, if you don't work on it, you won't get that 158-yard 8-iron shot all the time. Sometimes your swing is off a little bit and you might hit it thin, or you fade it rather than draw, or your driver has a more boring flight which causes less carry distance (although overall distance may increase due to roll out). Just keep working on it. Great video, gentlemen. I look forward to the next one. By the way, Granato's ability to explain things so clearly and his relaxingly soothing voice are what makes viewers focus and concentrate on the subject matter.
Love the yo-yo analogy. I've long been a lead arm feel player, pulling the grip of the club through the hitting area. But just doing a few swings with that thought in my living room felt so much more consistent. Looking forward to trying this out at the range when it's not a blizzard outside.
@@AthleticMotionGolf played in a tournament using this thought this past week. Added so much distance and control to my driver that I've never had before. Irons working pretty well, but I found I was more likely to chunk it if I didn't shift my feet pressure appropriately. Still a work in progress, but liking what I'm seeing so far.
Great to see you guys back, loved your Pros v Ams shallowing preveiw i watched it many times seeing it in 3D makes it so easy to see the arm path, i was just watching 4 simple steps to tour fit hands and about the 8.35 minute mark onwards you can see why the 2D view makes people get things mixed up as it looks like shaun arm is going out on a 45deg angle so glad i seen it in 3d version .
For the drill, when you get to the top of the backswing position - after you widen your right arm - the butt of the club should be pointing out past the target line? I think you mentioned this in another video (that top of backswing, most pros are pointing out past the target line)
I've watched your videos carefully for years, but this one absolutely blew my mind when I tried it out. I don't know what I was doing with the trail arm, but it was definitely wrong. Excellent stuff.
Love your works guys. One thing that I was taught that changes the way I swing was imagining that I'm skipping a rock with my dominant hand. That really made me understand that I need to bring my trail elbow back to my rib cage before turning my torso.
A combination of drills/swing thoughts for me lately that I've learned from you guys. The recent swallowing video and how the right arm lowers combined with an older instruction you did of hitting a high draw...low to high. Great stuff as always!
@@janlernfelt8927 the name of the older video is Hit a Draw in 12 minutes. There was also a short not too long ago called Low to High Concept for seniors,, hope that helps!
Great session. Your video translates to a slow motion back and down swing of Ernie Els golf swing. You describe piece by piece of his swing. But your video is the best I have seen and listened to, every golfer no matter what level can learn from. I must congratulate this as one of the best golf swing lessons I have seen keep it up like the movie the robot number 5, Input Input Input. And practice speed 80 % play speed 85 %. After all what do I know.
Took another look at this video after watching another coach (famous btw) and was shocked that the he was advocating keeping the elbow tucked into your side as you turned back. So happy you boys use unmanipulated data to back up what you talk about. So many charlatans out their espousing incorrect information. Cheers.
Gentlemen this is awesome!!! I think you guys nailed it with the movement of the right arm. As you said there is a lot of instruction on the Internet showing golfers to get the elbow driving in front of the rib cage which confused me and really never helped me with coming over the top and getting good ball contact. It just made me contort more with my body to square the club face and try to get good contact. It was way too inconsistent. THe elbow dropping like a yoyo and the arm extending or unfolding is a huge key. The only thing I would add that really helped me not to come over the top is that the shaft is still pointing back a little at the half way down point and you are unfolding to around the middle of your right foot if my observation is correct. I played on Sunday using these tips and it is the most consistent and best I have ever hit the ball with all my clubs. It gave me more and more confidence. The drill on how to get the club to a good position in the back swing is awesome too. This video is an absolute game changer for me. Thanks from Canada!!!!
That trail elbow reconnecting piece reminds me very much of the legendary Harvey Penick's "Magic Move" where the trail elbow reconnects with the body at the same time the raised left heel steps down and transfers weight to the lead side. Good stuff! Young guns like to think the golf swing is far more evolved these days, but there's way more in common, just explained in different terms.
Super dumb question, when you lower your rt hand is your palm facing up? Mine is on aprox. 45 degree angle facing forward. It's a big difference feel and pathwise. Sorry for this nerdy detail question. BTW, thanks for all the great videos!
This video, combined with the Shallowing one, is like the lightning bolt and the kite to me. Have always loved your content and data driven approach. It's helped me undo some of the faults developed while chasing speed and distance from the other "(G)uys"
This video and the "Shallowing Like You've Never Seen Before" may have unraveled years of mental spaghetti. I thought I knew what the trail arm did in the golf swing but I would have flunked the test horribly. Yes, given multiple choices, I could identify correct movements but that did not equate to a wholistic, accurate picture. Now I know why I always steep and loosing posture on the downswing no matter what I do with my body. Too narrow with the trail Forearm and too little lift with the trail arm equals guess which way this ball is going. Outstanding information and presentation.
Gentlemen, more gold here. Proof that you are two of the best out there! My issue in my backswing is at times my right arm becomes to abducted which you talk about.
Quick question. I am a left arm dominant athlete for the most part who plays golf right handed. Any different issues I would be dealing with seeing my left arm is slightly more dominant for me?
I know you've said you're not big fans of training aids that force or help you do certain motions, like for example the arm lowering you demonstrate here. But what about the opposite, where you have an implement that adds resistance to the motion? For example using a resistance band or a cable machine to train the arm lowering motion from the top of the backswing with weight. Could this be helpful for those that struggle to feel the motion?
Great info. Best in the business. In a previous video you explained how the lead shoulder extends and the trail should protracts on backswing increasing total shoulder rotation. Do the shoulders switch the movement on downswing?
Milo lines just did a video addressing the same thing using the same(I assume) gears data that you guys use. His conclusion is that reversing the side bend at the beginning of the transition is what is helping shallow the club. He disputes the active lowering of the hands early in the down swing. In his comment section your name appears several times, even going as far to have a round table debate. Love for you to address the 2 opposing schools of thought using the same data.
Thanks for the heads up. We haven’t seen the video but I can guarantee it’s not the same data. I know he doesn’t have a gears system, so I’m guessing he might have a copy of the software with a few tour player swings on it (RM, DJ, etc)? We’ve collected and worked with 70% of the players who’ve won those 400+ times on Tour. Some of those included players are in our dataset for our video, but there are MANY more players than those guys. That’s one of the reasons this video took so long to complete, we wanted a substantial dataset of Tour winners to draw from. Again, haven’t seen the video so this is only a response to your words… if the conclusion is “reversing the side bend” is the reason for shallowing then the lack of experience in using gears is having a big impact on that conclusion.
@@AthleticMotionGolf Thanks for the quick reply. I just went and rewatched it. He used DJ, Rory, Sergio, and himself. He also talks about the right elbow increasing bend at the beginning of the transition because of "reversing the bend".I would assume though that the increase in bend at the beginning of the transition is from the momentum of the arms changing direction.
What an AMAZING video!!! You guys broke this down in a perfect way for me to understand how to pick up some speed. I would love to think I could swing as fast as the guys on tour but let's be realistic, I know that is not going to happen but I would be happy to get up to a FAST swing speed or close. I have next 2 months of winter hitting balls into the net in the basement to try and pick up some speed now that I understand a little more. I was trying to pick up speed with speed swings but wasn't going good so maybe together with this it might help. Again guys thanks for this top shelf video. Cheers✌️
@@AthleticMotionGolf Sorry guys. I'm a bit confused. You are saying that the arm bend should be "no more than 90 deg". But the demonstration showed your arm bends more than 90 deg since we are supposed to push away the traling hand. Shouldn't the correct statement be "no less than 90 deg"?
The timing of this video and set of drills is perfect -- I've been working through getting the arms to 'fire" faster from the top this winter and it has bumped my swing speed up a few MPH already -- thanks for more info as always!
The light bulb really went off for me when you discussed the right arm bend at the top of the backswing. I overbend my right arm probably due to flexibility issues in my right shoulder blade and left shoulder. This causes the dreaded pull down which in turn causes me to have to do the open and under move to get the club down to the ball.
Thank you guys for making this video 🙏 This correct rigth arm movement is golden! It actually solves many problems that amateur golfers make on downswing (pulling the club, early rotating the hips etc...) I would say that correct weight shift and hip clearing motion are almost PURE REACTION to right arm motion (shallowing and straighten). They will just happen naturally. For me this motion enables that i can THROW the club with incredible speed from the top! Now finally i understand what Mike Austin meant by throwing the club from the top! 🤗
This video is great. The yo-yo comparison really helped me easily find that feel. The casting explanation was great as well. Love that you guys are teaching why holding the angle is flawed.
Great video. I've been struggling with poor contact, push right and fat shots. This, I believe is one of the key corrections for me. Makes sense to me and puts me in a much stronger downswing position. Thank you!
making sure the right arm is 90 deg at the top (seperating from the body) makes it a 2 plane backswing? Year ago studying the 1 vs 2 plane backswing it seems like the 1 plane wouldn't get the seperation need for max hand speed coming from the top?
Great follow up to the last video 👍 One thing I am wondering about and have seen mentioned only a couple times in your videos is the tray feeling of the right wrist. In the FOR The Player view at the top of the swing (from last video) the right wrist is extended pretty far back, what is the optimal windows you see for right wrist extension at top of the backswing? This drill here be seems like it could be complemented by a tray feeling, would that be a correct assumption? Or is arm/elbow position more important? I know you mentioned wrists bow/cupping/extension can vary greatly even with good swings.
Thanks for the "golden swing thought", of getting the trail side triceps close to parallel to the ground, during the backswing. I have some trail side shoulder issues that make this higher elbow move, impossible for me. I have tended to hug the trail side with the right elbow. Your video inspired me to try to find a very simple way, to keep the trail elbow away from the side, as much as possible, without deliberately lifting it and causing shoulder pain. I visualize a small weight hanging close to the bottom of the trail side triceps. This encourages the club to stay on plane during the backswing because the "heavy" triceps stays pointed towards the ground ( like the keel of a boat ) during the backswing. This produces an immediate 5 to 10 % clubhead speed ( faster with the shorter clubs ) when I release that feeling of weight during the downswing. I have a very simple swing mantra now...TWIST HEAVY...TWIST LIGHT. I like this tempo thought a lot, because increased swing speed is more a result of just " letting go" rather than jamming it.
From the top of the swing, does the tricep (top of the arm just above elbow) reconnect with the ribs prior to turning the shoulders? Meaning shift first, hips 2nd, reconnecting arm/elbow to ribs 3rd then turn shoulders 4th?? Our does it all happen at the same time?

Great advice, especially when combined with your Jan 15 video on pro vs am shallowing and your Jan 31 video on shoulder tilt.

That’s awesome Rick! Way to go👏👏👏
rick i never could understand what casting was until seeing the correct way. now i realise i was trying hard to cast. throwing all the power potential away. putting so much effort into the swing with now speed. i am just getting bac kto golf after a long layoff and couldnt understand why i lost 20 yards on my 7 iron. i do now. i was trying to gain more power but was actually losing it by casting.
You guys produce great videos and this video is not for the starter or beginner but for more established players who want more club speed. I wish I can afford to fly out to see both of you for improving my swings. Thanks!
@@samme6010 come on down!
The shallowing, should be a movie. Scarier than 'the shining'. Been trying to lock that in since I started playing.
Hey thank you guys for caring enough to help us , I wanted to ask it looks like your elbow gets behind your body but I know it's not , so is there a way that I can actually check mine and work on it until it becomes second nature and grooved in my mind
This episode is amazing. Thank you
Thanks gents.
This is really good 😊
Do you use this same concept hitting your driver off the tee and fairway woods off the deck? Thanks
Great vid! You guys are on a heater! the 'Shallowing' video followed now Hand Speed.
This has to be one of your best! Thanks!!!
Very glad I found this channel you guys are legit great job!!
Glad you enjoy it!
This is absolute gold for me! Tried it on the range and a powerful downward strike with a tiny baby fade - normally a big racking draw - thank you!
Yep, so much of that doesn't add up when you look at what is actually taking place.
Wow.. thank u so much for the detailed explanation. You have answered all my questions regarding this issue!
Glad it was helpful!
thank you for such a clear explanation on how to use the right arm!!!!! I gave a women a lesson yesterday and had our most successful lesson yet. I enjoyed having the confirmation on how to use the drill that you used. thank you
That’s awesome 👏
This one and the one before are the greatest you have presented!! Thank you!
Wow, thank you!
Great job explaining the drills. I did 25 minutes with the drills on the patio tonight, and I'll give it a go on the range tomorrow 👍. I like how high the hands are before transferring to the downswing.
Awesome as usual!
We need to insure Big Mikes voice !!! Thanks for the kind words
Love the yo-yo analogy. I've long been a lead arm feel player, pulling the grip of the club through the hitting area. But just doing a few swings with that thought in my living room felt so much more consistent. Looking forward to trying this out at the range when it's not a blizzard outside.
Let us know how it goes 👊
@@AthleticMotionGolf played in a tournament using this thought this past week. Added so much distance and control to my driver that I've never had before. Irons working pretty well, but I found I was more likely to chunk it if I didn't shift my feet pressure appropriately. Still a work in progress, but liking what I'm seeing so far.
So eye opening on what a cast is vs over the top va correct. You guys are top notch.
👊🙏🏻
Very useful information. 👍
Light bulb moment!! Shoulder retraction/protraction video. Thanks for another great insight video.
Let’s go 👊
Great to see you guys back, loved your Pros v Ams shallowing preveiw i watched it many times seeing it in 3D makes it so easy to see the arm path, i was just watching 4 simple steps to tour fit hands and about the 8.35 minute mark onwards you can see why the 2D view makes people get things mixed up as it looks like shaun arm is going out on a 45deg angle so glad i seen it in 3d version .
Yessir that extras dimension makes all the difference 🤓
Your ability to address the online teaching orthodoxy du jour (i.e. external trail arm rotation) is impressive. Firm but not rude.
Thanks B🙏🏻. We enjoy making videos on what we see from our students and hear from our online community. We hope it helps 🤓
@@AthleticMotionGolf It helps SO MUCH. 🙏🙏
Great stuff! My right arm is at 90 degree however my elbow is too high and my right hand is pointing towards the ball or forward
Glad it helped!
Love your works guys.
One thing that I was taught that changes the way I swing was imagining that I'm skipping a rock with my dominant hand.
That really made me understand that I need to bring my trail elbow back to my rib cage before turning my torso.
👏💯
MIKE AUSTIN
A combination of drills/swing thoughts for me lately that I've learned from you guys. The recent swallowing video and how the right arm lowers combined with an older instruction you did of hitting a high draw...low to high. Great stuff as always!
Same!
Do you have a link to that @troy?
Let’s go!
Glad you enjoyed it
Another clear and informative video! Always the best
Thanks again!
Really enjoyed this video. Will definitely practice the drill. Thanks for sharing. Cheers.
Glad it was helpful!
Took another look at this video after watching another coach (famous btw) and was shocked that the he was advocating keeping the elbow tucked into your side as you turned back. So happy you boys use unmanipulated data to back up what you talk about. So many charlatans out their espousing incorrect information. Cheers.
Another awesome video, Thanks!!!!!
Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
Way to go 007👏🙌😉. Awesome job incorporating these movements into your swing. Hitting it like that makes the great game way more fun!
We did a video a couple years back titled “Magic Move” after Mr Penick’s great instruction.
Great video building on last week!
Thanks brother 👊🤓
Super dumb question, when you lower your rt hand is your palm facing up? Mine is on aprox. 45 degree angle facing forward. It's a big difference feel and pathwise. Sorry for this nerdy detail question. BTW, thanks for all the great videos!
Love how you split everything up into independent movements, it really helps to see what's going on.
Helps us too 👊😊
You guys are amazing. So far aheadofthe rest
This video, combined with the Shallowing one, is like the lightning bolt and the kite to me. Have always loved your content and data driven approach. It's helped me undo some of the faults developed while chasing speed and distance from the other "(G)uys"
Awesome! Thank you! 🙏🏻💯
As usual... Great content.
🙏🏻💯
This video and the "Shallowing Like You've Never Seen Before" may have unraveled years of mental spaghetti. I thought I knew what the trail arm did in the golf swing but I would have flunked the test horribly. Yes, given multiple choices, I could identify correct movements but that did not equate to a wholistic, accurate picture. Now I know why I always steep and loosing posture on the downswing no matter what I do with my body. Too narrow with the trail Forearm and too little lift with the trail arm equals guess which way this ball is going. Outstanding information and presentation.
I am left hand dominant playing golf right handed. Are there any tendencies I need to be aware of to create more clubhead speed?
Loved this lesson thanks (john)
Glad you enjoyed it 🙏🏻💯
Gentlemen, more gold here.
Can see how bands could help with that.
Great lesson.
Great info. Best in the business. In a previous video you explained how the lead shoulder extends and the trail should protracts on backswing increasing total shoulder rotation. Do the shoulders switch the movement on downswing?
Somewhat but not to the same extent prior to impact.
Been steep forever and this clicked instantly. Perfectly explained.
Let's go!🙌
Milo lines just did a video addressing the same thing using the same(I assume) gears data that you guys use.
@@Mark-xl6yq you are 100% correct on the reason for the increase in bend 👊. No comment on using his own swing 🫢
Cheers✌️
We only ask for the customary 3% of all on-course winnings 👊😂
Love this. Most people have no idea how far behind them they get right arm on backswing
Once it leaves their vision it gets lost in space 😬
@@AthleticMotionGolf
Sorry guys. I'm a bit confused.
You are saying that the arm bend should be "no more than 90 deg". But the demonstration showed your arm bends more than 90 deg since we are supposed to push away the traling hand. Shouldn't the correct statement be "no less than 90 deg"?
Sounds like you guys just deconstructed Harvey Penick’s Magic Move! Well done. Great video. Thanks for sharing!
We did a video on his magic move a while back. This is pretty much it.
This with the pivot changed my golf game completely when you taught this all those years ago. It’s how to play out of the center of the clubface
I know this is an old comment, but any chance you can tell me what video you’re referencing? I’ve just found this channel and want to watch that video
Man this is brilliant stuff. Needed this one. Assuming these arm mechanics are the same throughout the bag, correct?
They sure are 👊
The timing of this video and set of drills is perfect -- I've been working through getting the arms to 'fire" faster from the top this winter and it has bumped my swing speed up a few MPH already -- thanks for more info as always!
Nothing like starting the new season with a little more gas in the tank 👊🤓
The light bulb really went off for me when you discussed the right arm bend at the top of the backswing. I overbend my right arm probably due to flexibility issues in my right shoulder blade and left shoulder. This causes the dreaded pull down which in turn causes me to have to do the open and under move to get the club down to the ball.
Thank you guys for making this video 🙏
This correct rigth arm movement is golden! It actually solves many problems that amateur golfers make on downswing (pulling the club, early rotating the hips etc...)
I would say that correct weight shift and hip clearing motion are almost PURE REACTION to right arm motion (shallowing and straighten). They will just happen naturally.
For me this motion enables that i can THROW the club with incredible speed from the top!
Now finally i understand what Mike Austin meant by throwing the club from the top! 🤗
Great!!!! Thank you
Great Stuff.
This video is great. The yo-yo comparison really helped me easily find that feel. The casting explanation was great as well. Love that you guys are teaching why holding the angle is flawed.
Thank you!
Great video. I've been struggling with poor contact, push right and fat shots. This, I believe is one of the key corrections for me. Makes sense to me and puts me in a much stronger downswing position. Thank you!
Awesome! Glad it helped 👊
making sure the right arm is 90 deg at the top (seperating from the body) makes it a 2 plane backswing? Year ago studying the 1 vs 2 plane backswing it seems like the 1 plane wouldn't get the seperation need for max hand speed coming from the top?
Great follow up to the last video 👍
One thing I am wondering about and have seen mentioned only a couple times in your videos is the tray feeling of the right wrist.
Good catch on he wrist extension. It definitely should be in there. We like the tray image when players go into flexion instead of extension.
Love it! Great job finding that work around and fitting this concept to YOUR swing 🙌👏
Same time, but you may need to FEEL one moving first.
Thank You AMG ... 💯yet again.
You bet
What creates the 'right arm still a bit bent at impact' look of the pros?
Do they actively stop the straightening once in the slot?
