I found this video by searching for answers that may help me in my situation. I had a fire that destroyed my workshop/storage, nothing was salvageable, all of my tools, lots of camping equipment, stereos and electronics, car parts... all kinds of stuff. Anyway they sent an adjuster, he was a nice guy, he came and took lots of pictures and took all of my written information including the fire report. He agreed with me that the damage was far over the 42k on my policy. I thought all was going well at that point. My claim adjuster was also nice to me and helpful. Out of nowhere they changed my adjuster to a heartless woman who has changed the whole thing around. She stated that tools are not covered in my policy and that I would have to have business insurance for that. I don't have a business and work as a property caretaker. I occasionally make furniture, bars and other fun projects with my tools but it's not a business by any means. Anyway, she started a investigation on me and brought in another guy to question me, my work... now months and months later (fire September 19th 22, now April 28 23) after ignoring me, repeatedly they are asking me for receipts, manuals, bank statements, my lease, and get thus, my tax returns for the last 3 years. Why in the world would they need that? I supplied them with ample documentation of my items, pages and pages of handwritten descriptions of my items (which everyday I realize more things that were in there) pictures of my belongings before the fire, and after.
I feel that I am being treated like a criminal for something that i am the victim of. I am furious with Assurant Insurance aka Geico aka American insurance and a bunch of other names.
These people are the criminals. I am not a wealthy person, I worked hard for my belongings, sure some were hand me downs or yard sale finds, but it was all my personal belongings. I got this policy 7 years ago after theifs had stolen some hand tools from another building on this ranch property. I asked them if the policy covered tools incase it happened again someday, they said it covered them. Why would I get the policy in the first place if it didn't cover them? Tools were the majority of my belongings.
Anyway, if anyone could help or lead me in the correct direction it would be tremendously appreciated ❤
Nice video, gave me some hope!! Thank you

I came here looking for awnsers as well. Our shop caught fire yesterday. My husband had 3 tool boxes filled with tools, 4 welding machines, a pressure washer, all of our camping, and skiing gear. Some stuff we got recently some was 2 years ago. I know for a fact we won't have any receipts on that stuff. Now I am scared reading ur comment.
