Still stoked over finding this video ... he is so humble ... and the way he brings these classic songs to life ... and with no pick and no strap on a nylon string guitar but BAM when he hits it the magic just pours out ... my highest respect to this humble, gracious and oh so talented man
ive found this video TODAY, dude. 2024. Dave should have an yt channel to tell the beach boys touring stories and, maybe, give us some guitar lessons. We'ld be soooo happy!
Just finished reading the David Marks Book titled the Lost Beach Boy and what a read it is. It is amazing the artists that influenced The Beach Boys music, the Four Freshman, the Ventures, Ritchie Valens, Chuck Berry and I’m sure many others. Such a talented musician David Marks is, thanks for posting.
i'm reading this book right now here in brazil. A funny fact to remember is the influence of Audree Wilson with the boogie woogie style on piano. When you keep it in mind, its easy to identify in most part of the songs. The early albums, i mean.
Great stuff, pity he was out of the Beach Boys for so long! The band sound so much better with him and his guitar playing! Some don't realise he was on the first five albums!
No one is sharing this wonderful video because of that Godawful intro that's 1:20 long! Start it at 1:18 and I guarantee the hits will grow exponentially. It's an important and fascinating part of Beach Boys history, stopped dead in its tracks.
'Little Deuce Coup' was just played on the radio. What a wonderful driving song, literally and figuratively! I love going back to the 'day' while living in Calif. Thanks for your lesson.
I grew up in Torrance at the time the Beach Boys hit & saw them live a couple of times David & Carl were my favorites because I was close to their age. The Beach Boys were the main reason I began writing songs when I was 13. I'm glad David Marks is still around & able to play with Brian & Al again. To bad about Dennis * Carl. Those were great times when the original band was palying with nothing much but guitars, bass & drums...
A real cool guy - with quite a story. Read his book by Jon Stebbens and of course saw the 50th Tour 2 yrs ago. I recently bought his CD and got to be on a webcall with Dave. Happy his life is on a positive upward path again!!!!
In the early 60's my mom would take my friends and my self to Hawthorne High in the summer to swim. That's where I leaned. If I remember right there was three pools, one for diving, one for swimming laps, and a kitty pool which makes me question my memory. Why would they have a kitty pool at a high school? Had no idea that was the home of the Beach Boys, who grew up just a few streets away from us (we were 112th st./ The Wilsons were 119th st) at that time. I know, so what... I think it's cool...
For the past 35 years I've seen the Beach Boys Over 120 times, However never lucky enough to see them with David until a few years ago. The missing link (live) even with Jeff....When they both play live, the harmony's & the Arrangements are so much more accurate as well as sound great!!!
What's not to like about this, a man, a great part of musical history teaching people about playing the guitar, oh if only I had seen this years ago. Thank you Sir for this great tutorial.
LOVE the way he brings the songs to life ... but man do I want to get him a guitar strap .. I was feeling for him all the time ... and a pick too ! When he does the leads like at 4:00 ... it blows me away ! This video and the series .. are a pure gold archive ! Thanks David !
I used to play these songs on my own guitar but could never get the sound.. Now I just learned why.. I had just standard strings and not the ones he described. Plus my guitar was a Gibson.
Sounds like authentic Beach Boys to me, except for the 1st single, Marks played rhythm guitar on the 1st 5 albums, love the early garage rock of the Beach Boys, there would be no Ramon's if it wasn't for the early Beach Boys
David quit because he couldn’t stand Murry. I’m glad he reunited with The Beach Boys from time to time. It’s cool David is giving online guitar lessons.

He is good.

These people have no idea they're experiencing priceless American history a few feet in front of them. Maybe someday a couple of them will grasp it.
the older ones know.
Indeed. I'ld give all my money to watch it live! hahahaha
i love David Marks so much
Im glad someone had the presence of mind to record this.
for sure. Its worthy of an award. hahahaha

Been on a beach boys binge lately. This video is very interesting!

I've seen thousands of lessons this is the most educational I've ever seen !!!!
Thank you for the nice comment. He's a friend and always a down to earth guy.

Dave Marks makes the original sound. I was embarrassed that I had forgotten that. I was reminded at a BB 50th concert how he makes the sound.
Excellent video thanks Davids a great guitar player met him on the 50th tour
This video, and its Part 2, should be in the Library of Congress.
How is that place not more packed?
Thank you Dave for the insight.
Thanks for sharing this video. It was fun to see and hear Dave explain how the different sounds were made.

Man, I haven't seen that music room since 1972! Still looks the same.
Cool Tutorial David Thank you Your a Legend!
I wish I could've been there!
Fantastic.....
I used to play these songs on my own guitar but could never get the sound.. Now I just learned why.. I had just standard strings and not the ones he described. Plus my guitar was a Gibson.
Very cool and he seems like a great person!
Way to go David !!!

David Marks master class? Awesome -- lots of hardcore fans coming? ... 2:32 Oh.
wow hometown of emitt rhodes! his picture should be on that wall
This is awesome. I just want him to buy a guitar strap.
This is a great video!
Man this is a treat .. wonderful ... but I feel I want to buy him a guitar strap to thank him !
I used to live on 119th and Inglewood ave.
I wish there was more close up shots.. We don't need to see 5 feet to the left of him.
You can contact him via his web site.
Thanks for signing my ticket Dave (:
get the poor guy a guitar strap
***** It's a classical guitar, pegs for a strap.
***** no pegs
Cannot hear you
That class looks like it has been told to comply with the 2020 covid social distance measures....way before time....wierd
What a shame, he was fired by Murray Wilson, at the time the manager of The Beach Boys. They should’ve kept him and Al in the band.
Actually, I don't think Murry tired him; Dave insists he resigned.
David quit because he couldn’t stand Murry. I’m glad he reunited with The Beach Boys from time to time. It’s cool David is giving online guitar lessons.
He also gives lessons on how to be a Mohel 🥸 !!!
this is great and love the brain dead audience!!! sorry i could not resist
