  • I had the unique opportunity today to film this videos talking about some tips to polishing larger flat surfaces.
on this piece I sanded it 180-320-600 with a high speed rotary sander and a foam interface pad.
after sanding I used a 2 step polishing process. first a I used a stiff treated Airway and our brown compound, followed by an untreated cotton airway and our Blue finishing compound.
I hope this video helps, if you have any questions or things to add please comment below..

I'm 61 years old and this is awesome to watch . I've learned a lot and look forward to polishing my aluminum skid plate and some engine stuff. I will be wearing a tyvek suit along with my PPE. I really want you to be around for many years, so I would recommend greater protection. Aluminum is an alloy, and can be absorbed. Invest as much of your good fortune into protecting yourself and those around you as necessary. It will pay off. Getting dirty is part of the process, and containment is the key. You don't carry 1000 marbles in a paper bag ... While riding a bike... With flip flops on... But I digress.

Just watched your last few shorts. Really appreciate when you tell us what you're using. Tools and chemicals. Wondering what your setup was to sand that bat. What is the grinder? Mine are all 10k rpm. You said 3k. What model is it?

I really thought that was a mirror that you had up there.
    Then it hit me
That that was Aluminum up there.
I have polished lots of aluminum in my life , wheels , pieces that I fabricated etc.
But I don't ever remember taking it to that level.
    That's DEDICATION !🙏

You have any videos doing diamond plate? I'm in the learning process, just doing my own trucks. I absolutely hate doing the headache racks and steps. Never comes out right. New follower here and enjoy your videos.

I recently saw your clip where you were polishing a Manitou pontoon boat which I have also done the last several years. I have been using Zephyr products and like the results. I have NOT been sanding my boat prior to polishing, however. Can you recommend a sander and pad (something flexible to follow the contour of the pontoon)? I think my results would be much improved with a sanding prior to polishing. Thanks.

Absolutely. We sell a sanding starter kit with 320-400-600 grit paper. We also sell a 10 pack of foam interface pads that will allow the contour you desire. Use both products with a 5" random orbit sander.
