Thought this was just going to be a fun video watching some drivers off the deck, then Ian dropped some delivery dynamic nuggets on longer clubs that blew my mind! Definitely opened my eyes on to why I struggle with low hooks at the top end of my bag.

The info on swing dynamics is really interesting. Never could understand why I couldn’t hit my driver and at my fitting at TXG it was clear I was delivering almost no loft and Ian’s explanation just made the light go off in my head as to how I can fix that with swing dynamics

Happy New Year Gents, love the videos. Great information as always. Asked for a swing like Matt’s for Christmas but got a hand cart instead. Guess I am going to have to keep working on mine. Ian I was wondering if you and Matt have ever considered doing a review of launch monitors. I am sure many viewers have the ability to hit at home into a net and would love to see some side by side testing between your set up and more affordable units available to see if one may suit their needs more than another.
Thanks and keep the great videos coming

This could literally be my favorite non-fitting video on the channel EVER! I’ve been struggling with 3 wood for months when previously I was a great 3 wood player. The change was in most of my game I’ve been hitting mainly high draws. So tried the drill from the IG story and boom 💥 absolute rockets off the 3 wood again!! Thanks Ian! So much value in everything video you do. What a great start to 2020!

One final comment - Come to think of it, I did successfully hit a driver off the deck on a dry fairway while playing in Myrtle Beach last year. I managed to reach a 535+ yard par-5 in two when I did this. I don’t come into the ball on a severely inside-out swing path, which I think helps me to “pick” the ball cleanly with a strong (13.5*) 3-metal, or the rare occasions when I have attempted to hit a driver from the fairway.

Could never understand why so many people fear the driver off the deck. Hitting a driver off the deck was a done thing when I was playing as a junior. Found out through trial and error how to hit it. First few, I placed it in the normal spot and all that came out were worm burners. Played it back in my stance once and it felt like I blasted that sucker into the ground but it ended up a pearler. Lesson learnt.
Now I understand why (not back then), but you guys throw in your 2 bob which makes it even more clearer.

I have not hit a driver “off the deck” more than once or twice in the last three years, but back when drivers only measured 300cc to 360cc in volume, I did so frequently. I think that I will need to practice this shot a bit before heading to play golf in the northwest corner of England (Royal Birkdale and Liverpool) plus several links courses in Scotland in 2021, prior to attending the Open Championship at St. Andrews.

PS I have only tried to hit a driver off the fairway once, it wasn't a success. I hit the deck a foot before the ball, took a divot the size of Salford and the divot travelled further than the ball. I think his channel has been around for at least 5 years maybe as much as 10 years and i give him credit, he is an excellent product reviewer, but you & Matty take to it another level ! You have so much knowledge with shafts, golf fitting and your reviews/head to heads are amazing! Looking forward to another great year!
PS. I had rotator cuff surgery on 18 Dec, I’m home resting ,cant start rehab/PT untold at least 2 more weeks so looking forward to your product reviews. Come spring time , ill be swapping out my F9’s to the G410+’s. I need a more forgiving head. Also I’ll be moving out of the Callaway Apex Pro Forged 19’s into Ping i210’s for better distance consistency and tighter dispersion. And out of Vokey SM7’s into Ping Glide 3.0’s. (54 & 58 deg). Sticking with U wedge (50 deg) in the i210’s
      All the best,

Great little test... for me though it's more about confidence in the shot. It'd be great to rip a low one off the deck into a headwind, but going with a stock 3-wd/ 5 wd has a higher percentage of staying in play/ going more than 10 yards. Based on Matt's numbers, it didn't look like it would be beneficial at all to even attempt that shot, regardless of course conditions. The possible number of outcomes is just higher

Ian - i play driver off the deck fairly regulary ie links / windy conditions and have always practiced it at the range when driving.
People build it up to the "mission impossible" shot - why it is just another shot you can learn. The kids when i am on the range are like wow have seen this I remember even Rory on a vlog infront of a crowd building it up . I have always been able to play this because it was just another shot!!!
I do not think it is a holy grail shot just that coaches do not teach it! Soap box moment over 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Talking a little bit about Aus, Marc Leishman hits a great driver off the deck. Good example in the link below:
    twitter.com/EuropeanTour/status/845027910377340928
It’s probably more of an option now due to the condition of the courses as it is so dry and hard over here at the moment due to the drought and now fires... I’m not directly effected by the fires as I live in Sydney but my heart goes out to those who are... south of Sydney is a mess.

Seriously, not a tough shot. I usually only use it when I’ve got a wide open fairway, aim left and just stay super smooth on the shot. Even a terrible shot off the deck goes relatively straight.

David Lewis that’s where low point comes into play David. If you’re slightly negative with your Angle of Attack and not too much from the inside then the club will strike the ball before it comes into contact with the ground. As we mentioned in the video this isn’t something everyone should try but as you can see by the other comments, many people use driver off the ground to good effect.
