I play off of 12. I’m a good iron player, I use a 2 iron, but struggle with Driver. I’ve dropped Driver from my bag and bought and am using a strong Titleist 915F 3 wood.
3 wood is 14 degrees 2 iron is 17 degrees.
I don’t feel like I’ve lost a lot of distance by swapping, I suspect that is down to poor Driver technique, which is why I made the change in the first place.
Comes down to what’s important. Ego on the tee or Ego when signing your score card.

I think you have the nicest youtube golfer swing.

I was playing a 10.5 degree driver. Picked up an adjustable 2 wood (normally 13 but adjustable to 11.5) with a 2 inch shorter shaft. Distance was not punishing (notice Mike had an 8.5 degree driver to 13 fairway) but the difference in accuracy was stunning. When you calculate lost distance make sure you’re apples to apples. Also 15 yards further but in the trees doesn’t do anybody any good.

How about a video testing i210, JPX forged, and Srixon 785. These clubs would seem pretty comparable, and would be clubs that a lot of your viewers would be interested in.

Excellent comparison and a lesson we all need to take to the course. On many holes particularly tight par 4s the smart play is a 3 wood yet many of us pull out the driver. Great channel with some of the best output on RUclips.

Good stuff. I don't think I'm in a place to give up the yardage....I usually need all I can get off the tee. My driver numbers look like Mike's 3W numbers!

Love the Video!...I have the stretch as well + the 400 SFT (slight out to in swing but working on it)...I’ve played my home course ( shorter and tighter) with just the stretch and do very well with it...I’ll use the SFT on longer courses that are more open too.

i use my 3 wood at the moment delofted to 13.5 works great very much more consistent on fairways hit and goes a good distance but only because im working on my swing and I've lost control of my driver while i work it out use the 3 wood. my driver is 43" hit it fine when swinging right found going shorter much better more consistent more distance as more control so big dog will be back in the bag soon. love the content Michael and can't help watching you swing a club,if only, lol.

Driver and 17 degree 4 wood , or sometimes driver and 15 degree 3 wood depending on the day or the course ( don't carry both on same day ) ,the 4 wood is not far behind the 3 and i can hit the 4 better off the deck .I never use driver on every hole ,some par 4 holes are only 360 / 400 , fairway wood is safer ,and still a short shot in . Good video Mike.

Could change my thinking on the course but there’s nothing more satisfying than bombing a 300 yard drive down the middle (occasionally)!

Just a normal 3 wood would work. Dispersion has a lot to say for it. If a lot of golfers were no so insistent on using shafts on drivers that are too long they would have more control with their drivers.

  • @frankhernandez6883

simple solution is to switch the shafts put the 3wood shaft on the driver head. Worked well with me! Of course you'll need to get another shaft for your 3 wood

An even simpler solution is just coke up on the driver. Easier said than done. I know I'm more accurate and just as long when I choke the driver but I never do it.😂😂😂

Pleased you called the strong 3w a 2w, so much more accurate. I used an old 2w when I started - great club, gave much higher launch and more likely to hit fairway.

I wonder if using a driver with a shorter shaft might be the best compromise - maybe the "traditional" 43" shaft. Be interesting to see what the dispersion would be compared to the 45 to 46 inch shafts. Interesting review and much appreciated. Love how you appear to swing so easily and end up with 300+ yards.

Smart man. You got the correct answer. :) Jack Nicklaus used a driver even shorter. It was about 42 5/8 inches.

So I looked up that shaft length video (Nov. 20, 2017) where you got 7 yards more carry with a 44" shaft compared to one 45.5" long. You hit the shorter driver with less spin due to more consistently hitting in the sweet spot. No data on dispersion, but I would conjecture that the shorter driver had tighter dispersion.

      Chester yes it did

    • @joedubiel6702
      @joedubiel6702 6 лет назад

And I would bet on that as well. More control equals better dispersion. I am thinking of bringing my driver down an inch to 43 inches.

I also played for a while with the Ping G400' stretch 3 wood which I managed to keep on the fairway with decent distance. I have since purchased the Ping G400 driver which I hit quite well most of the time which is probably due to the confidence taken from hitting the 3 wood off the tee. Since I have been playing Srixon irons for some time now and haven't liked their woods I would be interested to find out what you think of their new woods and when will you be testing them.

Think the G400 Max would tighten up your dispersion also without sacrificing so much yardage as a 3 wood

oooh no Mike, had to mute that music 😞 too loud and distracting. I'd rather listen to the crack of the club on the ball followed by you grumbling under your breath. 😜😀😀😀️⛳️
