I love that it's universal to call the ground "the deck" but only when a driver is involved.

3 wood also. I guess you could with any club that's meant to be used off the tee either primarily or quite often.

@@MahanFan1 I've never heard that with 3wd. I never hit it off a tee since it's designed to be hit from the ground. Driver is the only one designed for a tee. All of a 3wds design is to lift it off the turf.
2:35. The gallery standing that close to the direction of the ball flight is scary! One slight error from Phil and it would be like a bullet cutting through the crowd.

I made a really sweet driver-off-the-deck shot today... just shy of 250y to the light rough. Saved my hole.
Last time I tried this ended up shattering my golf shaft lol.

That first shot Leishman hit looks like all my tee shots. Difference is his ends up on the green my end up in the woods.

They hit driver off the deck 250 plus and I can’t ever even carry that far off the tee lol

Ping G425max is the easiest driver to hit off the deck in my opinion. I couldn't do it with any other driver.

Experienced golfers, when would someone use a driver off the deck? Is there a situation where you would use it? Or is it all down to preference? Always wondered if driver off the deck would be something done for often
Usually if you want a low, cutting shot that will roll out a lot. Keep it under trees etc. the shot doesn’t travel as far as hitting it off a tee. Sometimes they’ll use it to get to a par 5 green in 2 strokes. You won’t see many amateurs do it because it’s hard and not worth the risk lol
@@FlamingPiss especially when you consider, for those dudes, most of the time on any par 5 they can get on green on 2 with a 3 wood or a good low # iron after a good tee shot.
Not sure for the pros but I use it to hit a low cut under trees. Choke down all the way on the grip
You'd use it when a 3wd or stinger iron can't. Maybe it's too soft and there's no roll, winds are too gusty, etc. You also need room to roll it up - typically.
On a perfect lie in the fairway, either into a strong headwind or off an upslope, which automatically adds loft. Very tough shot with the massive 460cc heads these days, and you also need very high club head speed just to get it anywhere above 20 feet off the ground. The evidence is this video with maybe 10 shots…..how many 3-woods off the deck were struck last season ? 1000’s

It’s been around for a long time. Just not that commonly done. Bubba Watson was known for some great shots like these.

because they need more club than a 3 wood, and they have the talent and ability to make driver off the deck a viable shot.

Sure you can. You can get enough clubs to play at a thrift store for less than $20. All you need is a wood, a few irons, a wedge and a putter. Then go to the least expensive course.

Start by using second hand clubs. If you’re really tight on money, use local practice facilities. Most courses have free chipping & putting greens
Why is it driver off the deck? We don’t say 3 wood off the deck. How about driver off the fairway? Or he is hitting driver here. What I’m saying is off the deck is stupid.

The yelling of "get in the hole" is such a distracting noise from the mindless, but to yell it out when a player is hitting a driver off the deck..... Let's go with attempted humour and not the rambling of inebriation. How about admiring their skills and showing your acclaim respectfully so everyone around you can enjoy their day too.
The only time someone ever saying "get in the hole" was funny was when Bryson smashed driver on a like 700 yard par 5, and that was only funny once. Any other time it's just dumb.
