  • In this video, the D16Y8 Civic is getting a head gasket swap done. Unfortunately not everything went as planned, as we broke a crucial component to the motor in the process....
    We have been putting off doing the head gasket replacement for some time in hopes our new motor would be finished. The car is now misfiring a bit (not sure if related) and it prompted me to take a deep dive on the car and start from the inside out. We are using a FelPro PermaTorqueMLS for this swap. We did the very minimum we could do to target just a head gasket replacement. Although, when reinstalling all the components to test the head gasket, we had a major FAIL and broke a crucial component to the motor.
    The car WILL be running in next weeks video or I will film a video of it on fire :D.

    I've never seen a torque sequence that wasn't inside out. That's pretty much the rule on everything

      Yep… I folded hard. That’s what I get for trying to finish while tired.

    I love watching your videos but are you reusing the stock head bolts? When boosting you should go for ARP head studs for more clamping force.

      Thank you!! Yep in this motor I just reused the stock ones.
      I have some ARP already but I’m going to save them for the new motor that’s about to be done
      Didn’t wanna stick a full set of ARP in a motor thatl be running for a few months longer but you are 100% correct!

      Ok cool. So how’s the cooper spray head gasket going so far? I never use cooper spray on the head gasket and some people cooper spray it and still blow a head gasket.

      @@lilokyang6280 they probably never let the spray cure all the way.

    Since there’s no direction on the felro gasket, which way did you put it on?

    • @CJBuilt
      @CJBuilt  3 месяца назад

      You have to ensure ALL the holes and ports line up.
      One way it goes on, there are a few ports and holes that do not line up properly.

    should of loosen the timing belt tensioner instead, then slide the belt off.

    • @CJBuilt
      @CJBuilt  Год назад

      That’s another way to do so
      I just did not want to have to worry about the tensioner or anything on the belt side.
      Definitely other and better ways to do this job 😂👌🏽

    After everything was back together did the head not leak? My question I guess is. Putting copper spray on the MLS gasket worked out ok? I heard you were not suppose to. But I am thinking about it. Good Video BTW.

    • @CJBuilt

      Never leaked again after putting this back together.
      Even with using the stock head bolts again.
      I’ve heard both do and don’t but hey it hasn’t let me down yet😂
