I have noticed in several videos shot in late 2021, that there seems to be more "Flat Wheels" on a few of the cars-- and have pinned it down, more or less to Boxcar #3592, Boxcar #3339, maybe #3244(?), and at least one of the "Tourist Gondolas"...... I know it's quite easy to get sticking brakes & locked wheels, especially with so many brake sets & releases during the many run-by's, etc., but gee fellows, speaking from my personal past experiences..... IMHO with a little 'extra' care such defects can be avoided.
MANY THANKS TO THE COLORADO RR MUSEUM, THE STRASBURG RR SHOPS, AND ALL PERSONS INVOLVED IN THE FINE RESTORATION OF RGS 4-6-0 #20 !!..... AND TO THE CUMBRES & TOLTEC SCENIC RAILWAY FOR HOSTING THE #20 OPERATIONS, AND TO TRAINS MAGAZINE FOR ARRANGING A FINE PHOTO CHARTER EXCURSION !!
This loco was actually in at least one Western, "A Ticket to Tomahawk", released in 1951. It was one of Marylin Monroe's first film appearances (albeit in a small part).
HOLY COW! YOU ARE RIGHT! Now I remember reading in a rr magazine that the large fiberglass model of 20 was in the movie "A TICKET TO TOMAHAWK" in the early 1950s, because the engine had reached the end of track, then it was taken apart. And pulled by a large hitch of mules, over the mountain. I still have this movie on VHS Cassette which recorded from late night tv on cable. The movie has stars 🌟 like Dan Daley as the traveling salesman. And Anne Baxter as the tough as nails daughter of the sheriff so that after he is injured she has to become the temporary sheriff to lead this caravan over the pass. And Walter Brennan as the engineer. Plus, interestingly, a very early appearance as Marilyn Monroe just after she changed her name from Norma Jean as a dance hall girl in a group of girls traveling to the next town. Then the rr magazine said the large model was used in other shows, then in 1963 started to work for PETTICOAT JUNCTION, BUT....there are some differences, like the CANNONBALL is standard guage, but the model is narrow guage. Plus, the Sierra RR 3 4-6-0 was filmed both in black and white. Then 1965 changed to Color on CBS. AND... the model in the studio has a long cowcatcher, while the real 3 has a short pilot. And the driver wheels have Cresent moon counterweight and the others has squared off edges. also a small model electric train was used for night scenes , which was almost "O" scale but not built to 1/4" scale, but instead built to the Master Scale dimensions of 17/64ths of an inch which is only 1/64th greater in length. Plus many other small details. In addition P.J. has been on the M.E.TV station on digital antennae for many years, with 2 episodes at 4:00a.m.c. and 4:30 a.m.c. (& 5:00A.M. Eastern zone) on Saturday mornings, ( and I saw those 2 episodes this morning Sat. Sept. 11, 2021, on the 20th Anniversary of the terror attacks in N.Y.C. AT W.T.C. GOD HELP US ALL+++!!! Plus, only about 2 months ago in June 2021, it has started all over, from Episode 1 in 1963, on the Antennae network CIRCLE that features many classic music shows from the 1970s with HEE HAW, and NASHVILLE NOW, and P.J. is 12:30 p.m.c. Plus, Sierra 3 appears in dozens of episodes of shows like Gunsmoke, Rawhide, Wells-Fargo. Plus the P.J. Sister shows of GREEN ACRES, And, BEVERLY HILLBILLIES. The shows change, and Sierra 3 and the large model of 20 keep on going forward into the future, by acting for the past. Thank GOD that some things are still the same, in our hectic lives. AMEN!!!!!
The replica is still around and being restored in Colorado for display under shelter in the future. It was made of wood and fiberglass and the years have not treated it well. Just watched the first episode on TV this afternoon. Mr. Bedloe established his role as the enemy of the Hooterville Cannonball right off the bat.
Great shots! I think the photos and video that came out of the 20's visit to the C&TS is a lot more interesting than the Victorian roundup, to be honest.

During the high overhead shots, 20 looks like a tiny model for H.O.n3, AWESOME!!-!
That sure must of been a great day to photograph and film Rio Grande Southern 20
#20 is best girl
WONDERFUL!!-! Now you have a real authentic 1890s steam train, for when you are filming Western movies!!-!

RGS 20 kind of reminds me, just , little bit, of the 1960s TV show on CBS , PETTICOAT JUNCTION. Yet, on a narrow guage basis. COOL!!!!
Probably not entirely a coincidence. The up close shots in that show were filmed with a replica of 20.

Yay, the Rio Grande Southern #20 is awsome!
Wow must have been hot in those coaches with all the windows up!
it was blistering hot
Once again, some beautiful shots.

I could not agree more
Hey, one of those first 2 boxcars has a very flat wheel. You can hear it thumping!!!!!
Suprisingly it was actually the gondola
That’s epic! Well done!
Great! Thank you!
They need to get that hooter whistle off of 489 ASAP!
Agreed
Awesome #20 👍👍
