A or S tier in isolation, easy, good match of theme to aesthetics, puzzles that require thinking of the dungeon as a 3d space rather than a series of isolated rooms, sense of exploration rather than a guided tour going through it, all that good Zelda Dungeon goodness. And anyone ranking it below A tier based on 3ds is memeing on it for historic reasons But the N64 implementation of the iron boots? Makes it an easy D.

I'm a water temple defender. I won't say that it deserves a higher tier, but it's not as horrible as people make it out to be. Once you learn the dungeon it's cool. I was lucky and I grew up watching my brother beat it so I learned through him. I have to admit that it took me a ton of playthroughs before I memorized this dungeon, it's definitely the most complex dungeon in the game.
My fav dungeon is the fire temple actually.

I like how you actually go into detail about your placements. A number of tier list videos I've seen just toss them around with minimal explanation or just make a joke about the placement and nothing more.
You got a favorite Zelda dungeon of all time, out of all the games? Personally I love Stone Tower Temple, it challenges you to use just about every power you've gained throughout the game and even puts an extra spin on it with flipping the dungeon. However, Dodongo's Cavern in Master Quest just *flows* really dang well. It isn't super complex or puzzling but it lends itself well to a natural sort-of deftness that just feels really good to play through. It adds fun new elements to the dungeon that, in my opinion, elevates it from a great framework for centralized dungeons to a great dungeon in and of itself; even for experienced Zelda players.

I love how you can go in there and be like "Oh shit, I don't have the slingshot" and still be able to hit the roof switch by throwing a well-timed bomb, and later on, by throwing Ruto at it. The parts that get infuriating though, are the ones that require the Boomerang, only because it often ends up being a rare find in a Randomizer run.

I will agree with you on this point though: the water temple is a lot more frustrating the first time playing through. IMO it’s more like a wine fine. The more it ages in your memory the better it is.
If you play the game once every year or so you begin to appreciate the beauty and complexity of the dungeon from recall. You can argue that no dungeon in this game is particularly difficult, but even for an adult whose played this game 20 or more times the water temple still challenges you.

The Water temple or Jabu-Jabu always are meant to test your knowledge of the temples and how well you are at moving through it

I don't buy the Nostalgia argument with Ocarina of Time because the game has some of the best pacing of all time. However there is a certain Nostalgia with Dodongo's Cavern. Back in the day everyone had Zelda for their N64 but only a few were good at it and most of your friends that weren't good at Zelda would be stuck on Dodongo's Cavern.

My Ocarina of Time dungeon tier list (chronological order)
S: Forest Temple, Bottom of the Well, Shadow Temple, Spirit Temple
A: Dodongo's Cavern, Ice Cavern, Gerudo Training Ground
B: Inside the Great Deku Tree, Fire Temple, Water Temple
    C: Inside Jabu-Jabu's Belly, Ganon's Castle
There are no "D" or "F" dungeons in Ocarina of Time as far as I'm concerned.

IMO I hated the Lakebed temple. 2nd worst dungeon in that game, behind that ice dungeon. I played through most of that ice dungeon wearing the Zora armor, wondering why I took so much damage, and assumed that was simply how damaging it was. Wolf link takes less damage but I assumed he had resistance to ice attacks. I NEVER expected a zelda game to create armor that had a weakness. Zelda never does that in any other game.(Unless I am wrong)

i cant ever see the water temple as bad, because i first played ocarina of time when i was 5 or 6 and got all the way to ganon back in the day. i may or may not have had similar issues as everyone else with it, but the problem is, i just dont know anymore. i dont remember to have had major issues with the water temple. and since then, i learned it in and out by memory, knowing just the right flow of actions, so i am bound to never have a issue with it. the only thing i can agree on because of that, is the iron boots issue.

fun watch Shadow was interesting. i feel it was more designed to literally torture you if you didn't have the lens of truth which through my first playthrough i had no clue exhisted i did the whole dungeon without it until i had zero clue how to defeat the boss. it wasn't until a friend told me about the well i was ohhhhhhh this is alot easier,
but the atmosphere in this game is unmatched amazing how alot of the dungeons make you feel through the music ascetics puzzles and fine touches.

If I use this ability on that block and then shoot an arrow at it, it goes into this hole and now I can progress!", Ocarina of Time is usually "okay there's a giant pillar and a hole... What do I do? I'm gonna consult RUclips in stumped... Oh I see, you have to blow up the bottom of the pillar, take steroids, get a high school diploma, and then push it in the hole while similataneously drinking 13 shots of whiskey. How did I not figure this out?"

    • @mewtron5242

Ye because you need to get the hover boots in the shadow temple to actually do some parts of the spirit temple and the lens of truth and the lens of truth is close to the shadow temple so why not do it next. However the game for some reason wants you to do Spirit Temple first because if you look at the pause screen on the Quest Status part it shows the Requiem of Spirit before the Nocturne of Shadow and it shows the Spirit Medallion before the Shadow Medallion

      @ZSneakyTurtleMan 3 года назад

@@urbanduck9934 you think having to open your menu everytime you have to put on or remove a key item in the temple is s tier worthy. The final boss in the dungeon is probably one of the worst in the game, and the dark link fight although aesthetically appealing is mechanically terrible. A lot of the rooms look the exact same, its easy to get lost, having to constantly cycle through the water levels if you fall or have to back track is tedious. The rest of the dungeon is okay, not leaving much.

My 1st run through Water Temple went pretty well, tho the game glitched at the time block above the whirlwind river part. I would play the song of time over and over and the block wouldn't work. The next time I played, it miraculously just activated after failing a few more times. Also you say the Ice Cavern is entirely optional, that's incorrect. You need to go there to get the Iron boots, and you can't beat the temple without it.

I got stuck in Inside the Deku Tree as an idiot kid because I didn't know at the time you had to burn a spider web, and I couldn't figure out how to climb the ledge right next to that (I'm talking about the room below the spider web that you fall through). So for me personally it did not do its job at teaching the mechanics.

I never got to experience the true feel of ocarina of time because, I got the 3ds version however those times won’t be forgotten: the great Deku Tree got me thinking for some days, Dodongo’s carven the dreaded dungeon that I always hated, Inside Jabu - Jabu’s belly the easiest dungeon with a boss that I always died on, The forest temple an easy dungeon with a hard way to get into, The fire temple I always thought it was just a new and improved Dodongo’s carven, THE WATER TEMPLE this temple was so hard me and my friends spend a whole week figuring that thing out..., The shadow temple was interesting to say the least the boat was the part that I always died on, The spirit temple I always thought it was easy but my friends hated doing that and last but not least Ganon’s castle I don’t remember this one to fondly mostly because I was sick but I remember Ganon played an instrument (Piano I think).

I would have to give the Gerudo's Training dungeon a D because the Ice Arrows were pointless and there was a chance you could stuff yourself up with the keys and the locked doors.
It was not necessary but the dungeon itself was a mess and would be given an F tier if it was a required dungeon to go through.
But the Gerudo Desert and the Fortress I would give it a A tier because it was fun to be a stealth Link and the desert path to the Spirit Temple was enjoyable even if you only needed to do it once.

  • @zeaferjones1404

I like your list the only thing I'd change is the Water Temple. I have a certain respect for how tough that dungeon is. Although the Forest Temple is the perfect dungeon. Its almost as tough as the Water Temple but its not quite as confusing. Fire Temple and Spirit Temple do a great job at hiding there linearity. The Shadow Temple does a good job at what it does. With OOT there isn't one weak dungeon. Jabba Jabba's Belly is pretty interesting design and Kingdom Hearts sort of copied it.
