Yo, guess who just finished university, is moving to a new city, and starting to do RUclips full time? An actual upload schedule coming soon. Thanks for sticking with me, guys
Aw, I already miss the old animated intro.... This one is pretty okay I guess. But seriously, I'm SO glad to see Really Freakin' Clever is back! Congrats on graduating from university! Can't wait to see even more content from you!
It's nice to see people defending this game, I had a great time with the game. It seems most people who don't like it, don't even like the genre. People say it's "too much like Banjo" but 1 that was the point... and 2 there's plenty of obvious differences if you actually bothered to play the game. Sure the game isn't perfect, but you could make any game sound bad if you pick apart every little problem it has and ignore anything it does good.
I know right? & then everyone hates it even though they have never tried it before. If you actually don't like it then fair enough, but when everyone judges it because of one persons criticism, its just annoying. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, & people don't realize that. -_- They say you need to hate it because of one persons opinion. Try something new, you may just like it, like a flavor of crisps I didn't think I would like, but I loved them.
I must say, this really does feel like a new SEASON for this show. New intro, new editing style, new narrating style, it's all got a new polish to it that I think sets it apart from old Josh. This summer should be a blast for this channel.
I'm trying to click the lightbulb, but it just pauses the video! Is it possible that Josh is referring to annotations that have yet to be added in?... Nah, definitely not.
Thanks for this awesome video RFC! While I love VGDunkey, I wasn't a big fan of his review of the game at all because he clearly stated that he didn't like Banjo-Tooie and called it terrible (despite the game selling moe than Banjo-Kazooie), and it was just a complete setup that he was about to hate on Yooka-Laylee. Your review and The Completionists review actually dissected the topic at hand and both are incredible! Thanks again and congrats on graduating as well!
I have this issue with Dunkey. People shouldn't watch his videos to see if they'll like a game enough to buy it, because he makes every attempt to make games look bad. I remember his video on The Last Guardian, a game I absolutely loved, which he uploaded just a few days after it released, and was frustrated by how many people were put off from playing because of it.
Musical Shy Guy Dunkey seems to have taken on an overtly-negative persona the last couple of years. It's a shame really because he didn't used to be like that, I wonder if he needs to take a break from videogames or if he's just acting like everything is terrible because that's what gets him views.
@PochoMan I don't give a crap if they like the game or not, but expressing it in an unfair and terrible way to the public is where it crosses the line. If we were to follow your logic PochoMan, then I can call someone you know a love a piece of crap just because it's my opinion right? No it isn't. Sometimes it's just better to keep certain opinions to yourself. But if someone were to fairly criticize the something, then that would be better. I wouldn't have mined Dunkey's review at all if he went more in depth into it and actually dissected the game more and gave more respect to the developers, we wouldn't be having a problem. However, already from the start, Dunkey stating that he didn't like Banjo-Tooie foreshadowed an immediate bias against the game. Then he proceeds to simply state points and then insult the game. This kind of criticism just creates negativity and these reviews don't help the developers improve either. It was completely unnecessary. Again, I don't give a crap if Dunkey doesn't like the game, but if he doesn't like it, then he should be more respectful doing so if he's going to express if in public and get more in depth with his review.
I'm glad to see someone hold a positive opinion towards Yooka-Laylee. While I haven't played the title yet, many complaints seemed eerily similar to those of Banjo-Tooie; massive levels, pacing, and working a lot to achieve a little. I love both Banjo-Kazooie and Tooie, but I'd overall say I prefer Tooie - it seems like the logical progression a sequel should have: a more in depth world, grander challenges, and expecting your audience to have grown up with the game and expect to put more effort into the game itself. Yooka-Laylee being a spiritual successor seems to continue the progression of this format - expanding worlds themselves seems like a great way to increase the bang for your buck when it comes to level design. I'm excited to play Yooka-Laylee, as Banjo-Kazooie is exactly the kind of game I *want* to play. To those who complain that the game is like Banjo-Kazooie...I mean, what were you expecting? The characters are entirely based off of the iconic duo in every way.
Here's what I find cleaver about Yooka-Laylee. In BK you unlock doors with notes. In YL you unlock moves with feathers which allow you to reach new areas of Hivary Towers. The improvement is now you use new moves to reach new places rather than collectibles.
Really enjoyed the video! It's definitely interesting seeing the split opinions on Yooka Laylee. I feel like a lot of the reviews out there are moreso reviewing the genre rather than the game itself, which is why I think it's important to form your own opinions rather than always rely on reviews. Collect-A-Thon/Explorative 3D platformers aren't for everyone, but I love them to death and I really hope we get to see more like Yooka Laylee in the future! I also look forward your teased DK64 & Conker videos :)
I caught in between on whether it was good or bad. It's good, but it's not great. There a definitely flaws in this game, but for what it's worth, I'm glad I helped kickstart this game.
Yooka Laylee is a lovely game and I am really enjoying it. I always had fun playing Banjo Kazooie and Tooie as a child, and now I am loving playing Yooka Laylee. I like being able to choose to "expand or explore". I am choosing to try to visit and play each world first. Then I am going to go back and expand them.
A lot of the negative reviews of this game is from people that don't understand what the game is about. People complain about core mechanics of the game, that's not the game being bad that's you not liking that genre, I hope those reviews don't affect the sales too much because I would like to see more original games like this one come out. And by original I mean that this has a soul, charm, you don't see too much of that in big budget games anymore.
except it doesnt have a soul. it's a cheap graphical upgrade of the original banjo kazooie, but this time with bad gameplay, terrible camera, and forgettable camera. the core mechanics of the game are fine, but when they are not, you can't just dodge the issue with "oh well that's just the genre", because if a game plays badly, IT PLAYS BADLY, no matter what genre it is.
Leinad link thank God someone out there said it. Many of the times when I'm using the roll it feels like that I have no control on where I'm going. I constantly keep finding myself either rolling away from where I wanted to, or falling off a damn cliff. So most of the time, I find myself just casually walking. It's nowhere near as good as Kazooie's trot Talon. and before you say it whoever is about to, I have been playing collect-a-thon 3D Platformers for years, ever since they became existent with Super Mario 64. I have never had trouble controlling a character doing a basic move. Yooka-laylee has that problem. not me.
Gorgo the Orc I've heard those complaints from a lot of people, but you know what? I hate when bugisoft releases a completely broken game and people defend it saying it will "get patched out". This are really minor things compared to those games, and I know these are things that should've been resolved with playtesting. But knowing the budget they had and how good the final product is I think this shouldn't be too much of a problem. That is *if* they patch it. I hope they will.
Inter-Map Passages are my RFN for Banjo-Tooie, and it's such a shame that didn't catch on with other 3D platformers (at least that I'm aware of). If this new 3D platformer wave does take off like the 2D wave did last decade, that's something I'd like a new title to explore further.
Ah, I was wondering if there was a reason your channel wasn't renamed 64 Things Wrong yet. Legitimately though, I love all your content, and I can wait for you to turn out something that resembles regular uploads. It's great to see some love for this game, and I'm looking forward to RFCs of yet more Rare games.
Here's a counterargument: While I love the idea of being able to expand a world to explore it more, I feel as if they didn't do it right. First off, there are many puzzles that can't be solved until you have an ability from several levels ahead. For example, there is a button in the pond in the first level that you can't get until you get the bubble ability for the third level. Because of this, I just waited until I had all the abilities because I wanted to explore the level all at once. This also, kind of, broke some of those missions when I came back. I was able to beat Rampo with little effort because I could just fly over his whole ramp now. Second, a lot of the worlds don't feel like you're expanding them but rather that you're just unlocking what should have been there from the start. The fifth world had so little at the beginning. I think there were only about three pagies you could get without expanding it. My simple fix to this is that pagies for a world should only be obtainable using abilities from that world or a previous one.
Devin Huffman for a game that's marketed "do whatever you want in any order", it kinda sounds like they didn't plan for the "do the entire level at once" kind of people,
I get that that they were going for quality over quantity. but I still think it should have had more level themes. So, i think more smaller worlds just would have been more fun. Hopefully the rumors about Super Mario Odyssey only having 4 worlds aren't true, and we get at least 10.
My favourite use of collectibles in a long time has to be Rise of the Tomb Raider. It's very much like Metroid Prime. The game has glowing reviews and I still say it's underrated.
To think that a game (yooka laylee) based off a game (banjo-kazooie) based of a game (Super Mario 64) could save a dead genre and in turn bringing the game franchise (Super Mario) that the game (banjo-kazooie) was based on that this game (yooka laylee) back to it's roots (Super Mario Odesssey)
My hope for this New 3D Platformer wave, in comparison to the New 2D Platformer wave: - Yooka-Laylee is this wave's Cave Story. - Super Mario Odyssey is this wave's New Super Mario Bros. One is a pioneer for it (along with Rachet & Clank 2016), and the other gets other companies to make more of them. That's my hope, anyway.
In my opinion, expanding the worlds should have been left for post game and have them only tell you about the number of pages and feathers that you can get in a world without expanding during the normal playthrough of the game. Instantly expanded worlds 2 & 3 followed by me instantly losing what little fun I was having in the game. This is coming from a Kazooie, Twooie, and DK64 lover by the way.
Remember the times when RFC was more popular than 64TWW? Those where good times... Don't get me wrong. I love the 64TWW series, but RFC is just way better done. Plus no haters!
Hm. I just feel like I playing an unfinished level before I expand the world to the full size. Including getting up somewhere, just to be notified that I wasted my time, because this place isn't going anywhere until I expand the world. For me, this doesn't solve problems, it just creates new ones. I hope they drop that mechanic in the next game and stick to smaller, more dense worlds that are actually fun to explore.
I'm just not sure if I should wait for the Switch version or not. I'm willing to guess that it will be inferior to other versions, but taking it wherever I want would be cool.
I haven't quite finished the game yet and while I've really enjoyed it it's got some problems. 1) Personally I thought some of the levels were too big or samey, I found myself getting lost at times. I would of liked smaller but more levels. Also what I loved about the original Banjo Kazooie was that Music Notes were placed to lead you to the next area to go or where a jiggy was, Yooka-Layee has that but there are also a lot of quills in weird places just out of the way 2) Another issue I had was the mini games, most were frustrating and/or bad...and you had to do them twice even if you beat the high score the first time! The flappy bird mini game on the space level was horrid in particular 3) The camera is bad, I got used to it but coming off Breath Of The Wild you really felt the difference Also I didn't know the broken slot machines contained coins so I wandered around for hours before looking online, that was frustrating! When it reaches its highs Yooka Laylee reaches Banjo level of good, but there's some flaws with the game for sure and strangely with the larger levels, mini games, music style, and that Yooka-Laylee rap they did it feels just as much of a DK64 tribute at times (minus the character swap and less a few collectibles) It's good, play it if you like platformers, just don't expect Banjo quality throughout
D4rdar just to add to this list, I have my own problems as well as those that you listed. first, the music. It doesn't seem to fit a theme at all. with Banjo Kazooie, a lot of the music were played using the same kind of instruments. They were catching, Charming, and they didn't stray too far from an idea that the level had. These ones are all over the place. There are the good ones like the main theme, but there are those like the boss battle themes that are just terrible. Lee entire theme in and of itself does what it needs to do, but don't expect me to remember it. I'm not going to be able to hum Galleon Galaxy anytime soon. the characters themselves. two characters I have to say have the worst design in a game I've seen so far. And it's the octopus, and the fridge. They look completely out of place like they belong to a totally different game, a game that had bad designs. Not only that, what the characters are not interacting with anything, and are just standing there waiting for you to talk to them. Only one exception being the skeleton in The Cauldron being one that breaks this, but many of the other characters are just waiting for you to talk to them. Banjo Kazooie had a lot of characters that were standing around Shore, but they were at least there to do something. In Banjo-Tooie you could talk to the cat Warriors who were standing around, but they were also guarding something. The pigs in the bay level were also playing around. animate the characters, play tonic! That 2 million had to go SOMEWHERE! and the worst thing that happened to the game, was the fucking ending. No excuse, it was abysmal. Banjo Kazooie had you fighting until the on top of her Tower in an epic final battle. this one has a sneezing Cannon end it for you. fucking--
reversealex But Banjo had no mini games, in fact Yooka Laylee is more like DK64 for its mini games. The only thing similar are the quiz shows which weren't as good as Grunty's Then the levels - again the game's worlds are far larger then any in the original Banjo worlds, probably Tribalstack Tropics is the most Banjo-esque and sized level in Yooka Laylee although it's still larger. Moodymaze Marsh in particular was large and confusing to navigate As regards the camera, Banjo is 19 years old and 3D was new. There was no need to have a bad camera in Yooka Laylee I've finished the game now and I did enjoy it and glad I played it, but it's a good game and not a great game like Banjo due to its faults But hey, that's my opinion
I see your points in the video and they're vaild but there's flaws that you overlooked (probably because it didn't bother you). one of the biggest ones for me is the amount of pagies that require currently locked moves to collect in world 1 unexpanded, making the beginning of the game feel really progressionless since you have to backtrack for most of the pagies you see. also some of the pagies that involve characters are too vague in the directions they give, for example the pagie you get from the gentlemen goomba thing (forgot his official name) talks about smashing windows up top. it took me forever to figure out what to do because I didn't think the slabs on top of the temple were windows and when I first tried to interact with those slabs I didn't have the stomp move, So I just assumed it had nothing to do with his mission. also world 2's expansion wasn't fun to play but thats just personal perference. I want to love this game and sometimes I do but moments like these puts my enjoyment of this game to a screeching hault.
You're ignoring a HUGE flaw in this system. The fact is, they give the player a CHOICE to expand after exploring the unexpanded world, which means that some people WILL choose to expand immediately, which can overwhelm and confuse them. A simple fix would be to force players to use pagies found within a given world if they wanted to expand said world, that would prevent players from taking level 1 pagies and expanding levels 2 and 3 with them.
Yohoat that would limit the game’s replay ability and worse yet, make the collectibles not of equal value. Like what if I wanted to expand the glacier and I couldn’t find enough pagies? Going back to the tropics would be a good answer.
You know what really makes me sick? Games like these are wrongfully panned but shit like Cowa Doody get a free pass. Those FPShit games really suck! Almost got the Xbox One version of this at GameStop, back on my birthday, but I'm waiting for the Switch version. Also hope that Twooka-Layee happens in 2019!
It's sad what our gaming industry has become. It's a fucking trainwreck. These M-rated games are the reason I'm losing interest in gaming, outside of Nintendo. Had it not been for Nintendo, I'd never play video games ever again and would only focus on animation! These FPShit games are cancer to the gaming industry. Just like reality shows are to TV and remakes/reboots are to movies!
I was watching this video for a whole minute and was like "wait when is he going to make fun of the game?" Until i realized this isn't 64 things wrong with.
I've only got three problems with this game. 1. the music doesn't sound as well as I had hoped. Granted it has so good tracks, but for every good track like The main theme, or The Tribalstack theme, you get shit like shipwreck Creek or pretty much any of the bosses that don't sound good at all. and knowing that David Wise and Grant kirkhope were the composers for this game, I would have thought that they would make a god-like team. For the most part it's okay, but I've heard of way better songs. From both of them. 2. the characters themselves. You have the octopus lady that looks very very out of place, and the fridge. they perhaps have the worst models in the game. As for everyone else, they're not interacting with the world at all. Take Banjo-Tooie, and going down to the pirate level. Find a couple of the kids and you'll see that they are at least interacting with an object. At least they're doing something to make it so that they don't look like they're just standing around doing nothing and waiting for you. In this game, every single character is just standing around. It looks stupid. 3. the end was fucking abysmal. I don't care what anyone says, they cannot justify it. Banjo Kazooie ended with a grand battle using the Jingo to take down grunty. this game ends with a sneezing Cannon knocking over capitalB. fucking riveting. otherwise, it's all right for what it wants to do. But Banjo-Kazooie is much more Polished in my opinion.
that is perfectly fine. You're entitled to that opinion and I respect it. and with that respect, I have to calmly disagree halfway through. There are some Transformations that yooka-laylee has better than Banjo Kazooie. though yooka-laylee has them more functional, I feel like Banjo Kazooie has the more Charming transformations. It's a weird trade-off, I understand.
I was initially interested in this game, so I started watching reviews and lets plays to see how good it was. After watching maybe dozens of videos, I still can't decide if I should get it or not. Some people praise it for it's large worlds, tons of things to collect, and diverse challenges. Others critique it for it's bland atmosphere, relative lack of content, and questionable gameplay features. Others state that it's just okay, but either because it's too different or too similar to Banjo-Kazooie.
Rare always beat Nintendo at their own game. Donkey kong Country. While the lack of powerups was a factor, the worlds and levels were just outstanding. They were beautiful. As for gameplay mechanics, the animal buddies added a very nice element. Mario World was left in the dust (And they also released DKC2 which is a whole new thing) then you have DK64, and the two Banjo games on the N64. Again Nintendo fell short with three games (While made after Mario 64) outshone the game in every way. While it is fun to watch someone beat Mario 64 in under 10 minutes, nothing is more appealing tan watching the Rare game in progress.
First of all, I love the game myself. But while I understand what you mean with the expansions being a good way of not overwhelming players, this feature felt unnecessary to me personally. In the later worlds I would just expand right away, the size didn't overwhelm me maybe because I like these types of games. Rather I prefer the bigger worlds compared to having to explore the same part again that was previously unfinished. You couldn't be sure whether you were even able to do some challenges prior to expanding. Also you always mention the Banjo worlds being much smaller? Think that's only true for Kazooie but Tooie? Aren't they just as big? Just think of the Grunty factory world!
Sooo what issue did Yooka Laylee fix that almost killed the 3D platformer. He said he was going to answer that question in the rest of the video but he never did.
Daniel Montano-Lobe Creating big worlds with out it feeling too complex or overwhelming by slowly expanding them after you familiarize with them and choosing between expanding old ones or progressing to new ones.
^ except that's not a problem, except for complexity, which is very minor and would not kill a genre. overwhelming worlds are something that people love. just look at dark souls 1, where you could go to the hub and see an immense background that actually contained locations you go to in the game.
*A poem by me:* Roses are Red and I hate it when RUclipsr Get big G I V E M E L I K E S No but for real, it's upsetting when you can't have a conversation with others in the comments because the RUclipsr gets so big that only the first comments get noticed.
Mitch Keady there is a problem. Nintendo have never developed a banjo kazooie game. Also, a majority of BK developers left rare, some joined retro studios while the others opened up playtonic. Perhaps if playtonic made a deal to merge with rare after Nintendo buys back rare? Also, they could work with retro studios to not only bring the whole team together again, but also reignite the competitive spirit that rare employees with each other in the 90s with retro studios and rare working together, but trying to out do each other too.
Josh, love you man. but is a regular uploading schedule really too much to ask for? i know you get this a lot, but the fact that so many people want to see more of your videos is a huge compliment!
The world's are big, but it doesn't seem like a hassle to travel. And they got more stuff in them than Banjo to compensate. I'd say try Kazooie and Tooie first, and get this if you like both of them.
What D.R. said. I'm a giant fan of Yooka-Laylee and I have been following it since the beginning. I would try out both Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie because Yooka-Laylee is right in between the two games in terms of style.
my Problem with yooka is that its too much like Kazooie i honestly expected a Banjo Threeie , not a Kazooie 2 Yooka Laylee has tons of Problems Tooie already fixed : -no Warp Pads in most worlds -Quills are often hidden in random spots and are required to get 100% in a World -Pagies are lost after unlocking a world while in Tooie they are just needed to enter the Temple a few times , i prefer the way Mario 64 and Tooie had it tbh - no connected Worlds , which might not be a big deal to most of you but i liked it alot in Tooie - the Backtracking in Yooka Laylee also is worse since worlds arent connected like i often do World 5 and 3 at the same time , after being almost done with 5 i go to Witchy World through the Cavemen cave , get the last boggy child with the World 5 move , get some Fast food , load the dino into the train , death warp up to the entrance again , give the fast food , call the train to TDL , get the Jiggy for that aswell ( you can also already have the sick Dino in the train from earlier i think) and most importantly , the Pagies are too easy in Yooka Laylee in World 4 you get them for just collecting coins at slot machines , in most other worlds y9ou jump / run / fly through rings and thats all , just compare that to the Pool Jiggy : turn off the toxic water in World 6 , Throw down the icecube in World 8 , go into the now cooled water as banjo and press a switch , thats just for 1 Jiggy i also feel like 25 per world are just too much thats 2.5 as many as in the old games , yet the worlds are usually shorter than in Tooie theres usually not many things you can do in a different order either while in tooie you could try stuff like , going to targitzan early , on a second visit , get the Treasure right away or after unlocking the path through TDL
Yo, guess who just finished university, is moving to a new city, and starting to do RUclips full time?
An actual upload schedule coming soon. Thanks for sticking with me, guys
Really Freakin' Clever I'm so happy rn. But when will your intro fanfare segment both stay the same and not suck.
Really Freakin' Clever I'm guessing not you.
Make some success!!! y'know, money? all that stuff? it's pretty good. In case you didn't know.
Also do 64 things wrong with Kirby.
Really Freakin' Clever me?
Aw, I already miss the old animated intro.... This one is pretty okay I guess.
But seriously, I'm SO glad to see Really Freakin' Clever is back! Congrats on graduating from university! Can't wait to see even more content from you!
"Dis one has bananas... and dis one says the f*ck word"
I mean, what more do you need in games
Abby Rose the word "this" and not "dis"
It's Nadnerb You must be a riot at parties
No
Breadbin Binder At least you're truthful 😂

I hope they make a Twooka-Laylee. I also hope the Switch version is coming soon :)
Oh that's a perfect title, if they don't call a sequel that I'll be dissapointed now
Coolman Hahn Thank you for thinking it's a good name :) If the game sells well, there might be a high chance of a sequel!
Dave Bordicott best name ever
good name bad originality
also theres what people are calling Yooka-Laythree
I cry tears of joy whenever you post
Woooowww a Really freaking Clever video?!?!?!
"This one has bananas, and this one has the f**k word." Why do I love this line so much? XD
I feel special that im not just subscribed for "64 things wrong with". the actual videos are extremely underrated.
An actual Realy Freakin' Clever episode? WHAT?
Oh no he has a different opinion than you.
Because of this review, *YOU* are really freakin' clever.
Musical Shy Guy how are sales related to quality?
I have this issue with Dunkey. People shouldn't watch his videos to see if they'll like a game enough to buy it, because he makes every attempt to make games look bad. I remember his video on The Last Guardian, a game I absolutely loved, which he uploaded just a few days after it released, and was frustrated by how many people were put off from playing because of it.

Oh no! someone says that a game I love is trash! I can't take these opinions!
But if someone were to fairly criticize the something, then that would be better.

these episodes come out so rarely that every video is a new season
Last time I was this early, Really Freakin' Clever was the main focus of the channel and not just a name/series that is uploaded once in a blue moon

I'm excited to play Yooka-Laylee, as Banjo-Kazooie is exactly the kind of game I *want* to play. To those who complain that the game is like Banjo-Kazooie...I mean, what were you expecting? The characters are entirely based off of the iconic duo in every way.
"...have every world locked off until you have a certain amount of that game's main collectible. Whether that's Jiggys, Stars, or- OH, BANANA!"
Congrates ongraduating. I'm happy to see one of my favorite youtubers back!
Congrats on finishing university! I'm looking forward to you doing YT full time!
Nice to see someone give some actual praise to this game for once.
JOSH! YOU ARE BACK!
also, nice new into.
J Tin intro*
Still love the fact that Josh's namesake series is one of his lesser watched series.
this is a kick starter done right
Finally! A Really Freakin' Crazy video! This is a nice change (:
Great new intro Josh! Also if the stream tomorrow has no spoilers I'll join it
I caught in between on whether it was good or bad.
I'm glad that we have those old N64 style platformer a back. Personally, the only one I have played is Donkey Kong 64. I haven't played Banjo Kazooie.
Its so annoying when people brag about being the first person to watch a video

Yooka-laylee has that problem. not me.
"I have been playing *collect the phone* 3D Platformers for years"
let me guess, autocorrect?
Fucking Phone-- Yes, That was a Autocorrect. Damn stupid things.
Gorgo the Orc
I've heard those complaints from a lot of people, but you know what? I hate when bugisoft releases a completely broken game and people defend it saying it will "get patched out". This are really minor things compared to those games, and I know these are things that should've been resolved with playtesting. But knowing the budget they had and how good the final product is I think this shouldn't be too much of a problem.
That is *if* they patch it. I hope they will.
I can't wait for this game to come out on the Switch.
An actual new episode of Really Freakin' Clever?!
Did I see Jet Set Radio in the intro? Now I want an episode on that.
For Nuts & Bolts, I wish they gave the game to Tiptup or some other Diddy Kong Racing character. That may have helped sell the game on its own merits.
Yooka Laylee is a Mixture of Banjo and Jak and Daxter!
ftw youre early to a rfc video by the fact that annotations on the video don't exist yet
Shoutout to this commenter for reminding me that I'd forgotten to put the endslate annotations on this video. Whoops.
Really Freakin' Clever you're welcome man
AStrikeka That wasn't REALLY FREAKING CLEVER
I agree! And can't wait for your Donkey Kong 64 video :)
Hey Josh!! You're one of my favorite youtubers!!
I wish u made more really freakin clever episode. 64 things wrong is ok, but i really appreciate the quality of these videos.
‘Size isn’t everything’
Josh!
Love the new intro! Its much more modern.
Inter-Map Passages are my RFN for Banjo-Tooie, and it's such a shame that didn't catch on with other 3D platformers (at least that I'm aware of). If this new 3D platformer wave does take off like the 2D wave did last decade, that's something I'd like a new title to explore further.
Nice to hear a positive video on this game.
I'm waiting for the Switch version of this game.
I'm certain that rexes voice is the same sound sample as gruntilda from banjo
Devin Huffman
for a game that's marketed "do whatever you want in any order", it kinda sounds like they didn't plan for the "do the entire level at once" kind of people,
Can't tell if it's a new intro or if I've just forgotten what it looked like because it's been so long
I get that that they were going for quality over quantity. but I still think it should have had more level themes. So, i think more smaller worlds just would have been more fun.
Hopefully the rumors about Super Mario Odyssey only having 4 worlds aren't true, and we get at least 10.
This was the last video of the seires. Bra.
My favourite use of collectibles in a long time has to be Rise of the Tomb Raider. It's very much like Metroid Prime. The game has glowing reviews and I still say it's underrated.
I love how Josh uses a different inflection when he voices a Really Freakin' Clever rather than a 64 Things Wrong. :)
it's because he's trying to sell you yooka laylee
TSB steam he likes the game. That’s all there is to it.
As awesome as ever josh :D
love the new intro!
Is the intro new? I love it!
My hope for this New 3D Platformer wave, in comparison to the New 2D Platformer wave:
- Yooka-Laylee is this wave's Cave Story.
- Super Mario Odyssey is this wave's New Super Mario Bros.
One is a pioneer for it (along with Rachet & Clank 2016), and the other gets other companies to make more of them. That's my hope, anyway.
HOLY SHIT, LOVE THE INTRO.
This game could of ended up being like Nuts and Bolts if Microsoft was involved with the project.
FINALLY
Glad to see a new RFC :)
Mighty No. 9 2! Finally!!!!
I'm just not sure if I should wait for the Switch version or not. I'm willing to guess that it will be inferior to other versions, but taking it wherever I want would be cool.
Can't wait for the switch version :)
I haven't quite finished the game yet and while I've really enjoyed it it's got some problems.
1) Personally I thought some of the levels were too big or samey, I found myself getting lost at times. I would of liked smaller but more levels. Also what I loved about the original Banjo Kazooie was that Music Notes were placed to lead you to the next area to go or where a jiggy was, Yooka-Layee has that but there are also a lot of quills in weird places just out of the way
2) Another issue I had was the mini games, most were frustrating and/or bad...and you had to do them twice even if you beat the high score the first time! The flappy bird mini game on the space level was horrid in particular
3) The camera is bad, I got used to it but coming off Breath Of The Wild you really felt the difference
Also I didn't know the broken slot machines contained coins so I wandered around for hours before looking online, that was frustrating!
When it reaches its highs Yooka Laylee reaches Banjo level of good, but there's some flaws with the game for sure and strangely with the larger levels, mini games, music style, and that Yooka-Laylee rap they did it feels just as much of a DK64 tribute at times (minus the character swap and less a few collectibles)
It's good, play it if you like platformers, just don't expect Banjo quality throughout
Banjo Kazooie had you fighting until the on top of her Tower in an epic final battle. this one has a sneezing Cannon end it for you. fucking--
D4rdar the flaws that banjo kazooie had to
reversealex But Banjo had no mini games, in fact Yooka Laylee is more like DK64 for its mini games. The only thing similar are the quiz shows which weren't as good as Grunty's
Then the levels - again the game's worlds are far larger then any in the original Banjo worlds, probably Tribalstack Tropics is the most Banjo-esque and sized level in Yooka Laylee although it's still larger. Moodymaze Marsh in particular was large and confusing to navigate
As regards the camera, Banjo is 19 years old and 3D was new. There was no need to have a bad camera in Yooka Laylee
I've finished the game now and I did enjoy it and glad I played it, but it's a good game and not a great game like Banjo due to its faults
But hey, that's my opinion
D4rdar idk if other consoles have this feature now but on the switch version you can change your camera type to manual rather than classic.
now we wait for 64 things wrong with yooka-layele!
This video definitely won't be controversial at all.
it seems like your talking about banjoo more than yooka which the video is sopposed to be!
It's sad that a really big fan of Banjo-Kazooie got his voice removed out of a spiritual successor to the very game he loved.
Damn that new intro. soo good.
2:18 - What about Grunty's Revenge on the Game Boy Advance?
While everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I know how you feel.
Hm.
You one series about what games do right, then another about what they do wrong. Nice
LIKE THE NEW INTRO BUT I LIKE THE OLD ONE MORE.
Hallelujah! The Josh is loose!
I was watching this video for a whole minute and was like "wait when is he going to make fun of the game?" Until i realized this isn't 64 things wrong with.
Hey, Josh! I've missed you! How have you been?
6:39 the ice key!
Banjo-Tooie had 90 jiggies while the original had 100
I think one of these videos for April 1st would've been better to be honest. Would've been Really Freakin Clever, ha
But Banjo-Kazooie is much more Polished in my opinion.
i agree that they look like they are just waiting lol. but it doesnt really bother me.
also, i prefer the transformations in yooka than banjo
that is perfectly fine.
Mario World was left in the dust (And they also released DKC2 which is a whole new thing)
then you have DK64, and the two Banjo games on the N64.
Was expecting you to talk about their fast roll on the topic of transportation
But k
Nathan Enzor
thing of it is, i tried this game out, and I was feeling overwhelmed from just the un-expanded version of world 1
+Nathan Enzor Except Spongebob: Battle for Bikini bottom did that MUCH earlier.
Try again.
Gorgo the Orc how does it work in BfBB?
RIP old intro.
*A poem by me:*
Roses are Red
and I hate it when
RUclipsr Get big
G I V E M E L I K E S
No but for real, it's upsetting when you can't have a conversation with others in the comments because the RUclipsr gets so big that only the first comments get noticed.
Well, your comment ain't lost, yet.
YES PLEASE DO A DK64 VIDEO
Nintendo, you obviously check through Josh's content, it's time to call Microsoft and deal to get Banjo-Kazooie back.
Josh, love you man. but is a regular uploading schedule really too much to ask for? i know you get this a lot, but the fact that so many people want to see more of your videos is a huge compliment!
theGreninjaWizard he's working on one now that he's finished university.
Trigspro789 oh wow
he commented that one minuten after i started watching the video, that's awesome! thanks for pointing that out.
does anyone recommend this game to someone like me who hasn't played banjo but really wanted to, cus this looks like a good game to me
It's Banjo. It still has a lot of the things Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie had. This is Banjo-Threeie.
I would try out both Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie because Yooka-Laylee is right in between the two games in terms of style.
so what did you think of mighty number 9?
my Problem with yooka is that its too much like Kazooie
i honestly expected a Banjo Threeie , not a Kazooie 2
Yooka Laylee has tons of Problems Tooie already fixed :
-no Warp Pads in most worlds
-Quills are often hidden in random spots and are required to get 100% in a World
-Pagies are lost after unlocking a world while in Tooie they are just needed to enter the Temple a few times , i prefer the way Mario 64 and Tooie had it tbh
- no connected Worlds , which might not be a big deal to most of you but i liked it alot in Tooie
- the Backtracking in Yooka Laylee also is worse since worlds arent connected like i often do World 5 and 3 at the same time , after being almost done with 5 i go to Witchy World through the Cavemen cave , get the last boggy child with the World 5 move , get some Fast food , load the dino into the train , death warp up to the entrance again , give the fast food , call the train to
TDL , get the Jiggy for that aswell ( you can also already have the sick Dino in the train from earlier i think)
and most importantly , the Pagies are too easy in Yooka Laylee in World 4 you get them for just collecting coins at slot machines , in most other worlds y9ou jump / run / fly through rings and thats all , just compare that to the Pool Jiggy :
turn off the toxic water in World 6 , Throw down the icecube in World 8 , go into the now cooled water as banjo and press a switch , thats just for 1 Jiggy
i also feel like 25 per world are just too much thats 2.5 as many as in the old games , yet the worlds are usually shorter than in Tooie
theres usually not many things you can do in a different order either while in tooie you could try stuff like , going to targitzan early , on a second visit , get the Treasure right away or after unlocking the path through TDL
Minene Uryuu922 I PC Masterrace I most people say that yooka resembles tooie more than kazooie fyi. Because of the large worlds and that.
Also, the game was promised to be exactly like kazooie. For better or for worse they kept their promise.
