The Sumo Deadlift High Pull

- The sumo deadlift high pull builds on the deadlift, but we widen the stance and bring the grip inside the knees to facilitate a longer pulling motion. We also add velocity to the movement. The sumo deadlift high pull replicates the upward movement pattern of a clean or snatch and serves as a bridge between the deadlift and the faster lifts.

Nice
Are you allowed to use the momentum of the deadlift for your pull? Or does it need to be two different movements?
It's crossfit, anything is allowed.
But the momentum from the hip should definitely carry it. Otherwise you're pulling in a quite compromised form, causing poor positioning of the supraspinatus and potentially leading to injury. Really, there are a slew of better movements that accomplish what this one tries to. Best to just avoid it.
This is coming from a fellow crossfitter.
instead just to two separate movements where you aren’t using momentum but your actual muscle which is why you’re working out in the first place

when you said stance slightly wider than shoulder width I think you meant hands because the feet are way wider than shoulder width
No.. Look at his feet. They're not much wider than his shoulders.
That isn’t a high pull, it’s an upright row.
Great way to destroy your shoulders, most people don't have the mobility to properly execute high pull.
Tomasz Mańka agreed, glorified upright row, creating internal rotation on the shoulders plus people will load up the weight since theres more ability to explode the weight, all aboard the train to Impingement city choo choo
60 below my experience is through trial and error, having used to do Upright rows from Arnies Encyclopedia of muscle growth many moons ago. The movement shown is causing internal rotation in the shoulder joint, some people are lucky and may not have issues but many people will get bursitis from doing this movement. Ideally the wrist would end above the elbow to create external rotation. If you dont believe me perhaps AthleanX will sway you..

Wrist finishing higher than elbow, 100% makes the move doable, safely.
jay wilshaw issue is, going off this demo his wrists never make it above his elbows..
@@Mks25932 even if he did lie about the fake weight debacle, it doesn’t change human anatomy and movement patterns. Feel free to go nuts with this movement though, ill pass.
Better than side laterals lol
To high
Shoulder impingement 101
Because you're going to high pull 500+ lbs.
CrossFitters will try to just because it’s CrossFit
This is not a bodybuilding exercise. People like this idiot shine because of their sports ignorance. It seems like the one and only purpose of lifting weights for them is getting bigger.
Outside of a desire to break your jaw, why do this?
Why? The shoulders/traps limit the weight to the point sumo brings no effect.
Do not do this exercise unless you want a lifetime of shoulder and neck problems.

You don't do comments like this unless the only three exercises you know are bench press, romanian deadlift and strict pullups all of them done at the nearest Planet Fitness.
Thats basically a shitty deadlift now.
Crossfit is weird af
