  • In today's video, we build a DIY Drawer system for my friend's 1999 Toyota 4runner, the dimensions on this build are very close to mine in my 2008 Lexus GX470. Make sure you buy good quality plywood from a local store that specializes in wood not Lowe's or Home Depot ect. Finally I may create 3D plans if I can learn how to use the software lol

    Have you had any issues with tipping when one of the drawers is pulled all the way out? Could you put eye bolts and turnbuckles on the outside of the box towards the front to attach to the floor D ring tiedowns?

    What a great build! I would have to look into adding carpet into my build once I'm ready for it. So can yall tell me the net weight for the drawers? I'm trying to calculate its weight for my Gen 5 since I have al my first responder gears I'm trying to shave down some weight and still able to access all of my gears. Thanks!

    • @LoganKingMedia
      @LoganKingMedia  2 года назад

      Thanks! Im not sure on the exact weight but I would guess around 80-100lbs, im sure you could shave some weight by using half inch plywood in some of the build. I used 3/4 to support the weight of me sleeping on it and my two large dogs standing on it lol

    What did you use to attach the drawers to the truck

  • @lincolnp7770
    @lincolnp7770 3 года назад +1

    1/2 Inch exactly is the actual width you need for ballbearing draw slides. So 1 in narrower then the opening of the frame

    • @LoganKingMedia
      @LoganKingMedia  3 года назад

      Yeah exactly, thought I would share my mistake so people know that you need to be exact.

    What are the dimensions for the gx470?

  • @1stuart1
    @1stuart1 3 года назад

    Well done. Any comments on the weight? I often wonder if weight could be saved, and strength maintained by making out of metal.

    • @fishhuntadventure
      @fishhuntadventure Год назад

      I know! There’s a lot weight there in plywood that doesn’t even add any practical strength. Cleats made of pine would be fine and much lighter weight. And stressed 1/4” plywood with glue and a perimeter frame would weigh very little and be more than sufficient strength-wise, drawer bottoms 3/8” and the ‘sleeping platform’ might even be ok with 3/8, too.
      Metal frames would probably come out about the same weight if you did the plywood construction light and well.
      Interestingly, I made a 60” by 28” mechanic’s rolling toolbox with a 1x1 welded steel perimeter frame, 1/2” baltic for the skin/panels, and the drawers are all 1/2” baltic birch, too, with continuous grain figured red birch drawer fronts. I built it before youtube was imagined. It’s still going strong and is my best layout tool box. Plus it looks cool with the steel and carcass in a custom dark blue I mixed up, and amber shellac drawers and top.
      So light plywood construction done right ain’t going to warp or sag, or break.

    Your pocket hole screws at 4:01 are facing the wrong side.. you should be screwing into the "meat" of the wood, not out

    Has your EIbach sagged into reverse rake with this + some gear in the back? I have my kit in the garage BNIB and considerng getting something else for the rear. Seems like any weight above 100lbs causes reverse rake

    • @LoganKingMedia
      @LoganKingMedia  3 года назад

      Yeah if you plan to add some weight I would maybe suggest getting different springs for the rear. I am looking at getting the dobinson C59-677V right now.

    • @csgofordummies1239
      @csgofordummies1239 3 года назад +1

      Thinking about swapping springs for either Eibach HD or just going another company altogether. Any reason why you want to swap to another company rather than just Eibach since youll have to get a diff conversion kit? (more than the spring itself)
      I even considered just getting 20mm spacers from Ironman for $60 and calling it a day. Have you thought of that option?

    • @LoganKingMedia
      @LoganKingMedia  3 года назад

      After looking into it more now the Eibach HD springs look like what I need, they didn’t have this option when I got my kit almost a year ago. The only reason I was considering those specific dobinson springs is because they are compatible with their long travel kit which I did want to upgrade to eventually.

    I have a 3rd gen and looking at trading a Sxs for a 2005 GX470 on 34s, how much more do you enjoy the gx470 over the 3rd gen?

    • @LoganKingMedia
      @LoganKingMedia  2 года назад +1

      I like it a lot better then the 3rd gens the size of 3rd gens, seats and maybe them having a rear locker is a bonus but other then that the gx470 is better in everyday especially for me as its my daily driver. More power with the V8, more comfort and features and more room are the main things.

      Yeah man I have a 2000 4runner and stopped going off-road with it. Started using it to pull my 900 RZR but thinking about trading my RZR for a 2005 gx470 with 34" tires and wheels plus 3" Bilstein lift. RZR is fun but I enjoy the vehicle off-road adventure more then wheeling

  • @GodsMan500
    @GodsMan500 2 года назад

    It’s best not to wear gloves when working with power tools. The moving parts can easily grab the material and drag your hand right into the blades or mechanism, depending on what machine you’re using. Very dangerous.
