    I'm about to do the same thing to mine. I do a lot more backpacking trips, but having this as an option for "car" camping would be great for me and the dog. My only question is about the hinge and T frame underneath the front platform piece. When that folds over into the rear of the vehicle (I assume with a piano hinge, or something similar) with the seats up, the support 1x6s are sticking up, correct? I don't think it would be much of an issue when it's like that I am just trying to completely visualize the build concept.

    • @SeizeTheAdventureCo
      @SeizeTheAdventureCo  5 дней назад

      The extension platform is pressure fitted and completely removable. Its resting on a "T" support that is hinged. When I want to put the seats up this is the procedure:
      1. Move front seats forward (they help extension stay in place by pressure fit)
      2. Pop extension up and slide back over platform
      3. Fold "T" support and place behind the seat
      4. Fold up rear seats
      It's a really simple design that allows me to carry 5 passengers with almost no effort whenever needed. Thanks for watching

    Bro this is exactly what I’m looking to build!! A few questions for you if you don’t mind:
    1) with the back seats up, is your drawer system and yeti cooler still fully functional and accessible?
    2) how’re you liking the build?
    3) could you share your build plans?

    • @SeizeTheAdventureCo
      @SeizeTheAdventureCo  7 месяцев назад +2

      The yeti still fits in the 4Runner with the seats up perfectly! I roll around with the platform extended and when I need to carry 4 passengers I pull the extension on top of the box, put the yeti cooler on top of it and we are good to go.
      The system worked out better than I even imagined it would and don’t think I’ll be going back. It’s really nice to have the extra organized storage and there’s still a ton of room to haul gear in the back of the truck.
      Unfortunately I do not have any official plans for this build but check your email for some example photos and I’ll try to help the best I can.
      Thanks for your support!

    I have a 20 year old 4 runner that needs some storage like this. I just got a RAV4 that I've been looking to add some storage drawers to and that's how I stumbled across this vid. Def appreciate the tips and info!

    Amazing. Exactly my thought. Got all the materials for my own DIY build today and came across your video this evening. I thought of doing a height of 9" overall and for the sides I am thinking of plywood instead of the lumber. However, 1x6 is a good idea too. Wish you had covered the rest of build too. My dimensions are 43x37 for the top and 41x37 for the actual box. Planning to do 3/4 plywood sides. I see that you put screws on the joints. Are they strong enough? I am thinking of pocket holes. The interesting part is that I have never done carpentry in my life and this is going to be my first project. Got myself Bosch Jigsaw and the Ryobi Circular saw today. Doing the necessary calculations for the cuts tomorrow. Keeping my fingers crossed.

      I can make a more detailed video if this is something you are interested in! The box is so incredibly strong I’ve had a variety of heavy stuff on this thing and it’s in the same condition as the day I built it! Absolutely love it and highly recommend to any 4Runner owners.

    Have you laid on it? Do two people have enough room there with their knees bent? It's tight without removing the seat bottoms.

    • @SeizeTheAdventureCo
      @SeizeTheAdventureCo  8 месяцев назад

      I have laid on it and loaded hundreds of pounds of camping/ski gear plus dogs, coolers, etc. it has held up very well.
      I will agree that the length isn’t ideal for the tallest person. I fit pretty well with my pillow propped up on the seat back and have slept in the 4Runner before the platform was installed and it works for a night in a pinch.
