    This build is awesome! I’ve watched multiple other videos on building a drawer system and yours is the cleanest and most compelling one I’ve seen yet! I appreciate the cut measurements you include, but I wonder if you’d be willing to also show a list of raw materials so I know how many of each to purchase. Planning to do a nearly identical build in the near future and would love a simplified shopping list!

    Very nicely done, Matt....I applaud the ingenuity that went into your design.
    Just starting on a similar build for my Taco and am leaning towards teflon or the polyethylene for the slides as well; the commercial metal slides are fiendishly expensive, and if they jam up when you're out in the boonies you could be screwed....I'm thinking the plastic slides are pretty much foolproof. Now that you've (likely) used it for a few months, are you happy with the plastic slides?

    • @nate-beard
      @nate-beard Год назад

      The spare wheel is located under the truck, so the platform doesn't interfere with access. You just need to be able to access the tool under the rear passenger seat. There is a rod you place into your back bumper and twist. It then lowers the spare. There's videos on RUclips that show the process.

    Thanks for sharing this. I just got an 02 this year and am looking at doing something similar. I'm 6'5'' so I'm thinking I might use the drawer & false top to extend the bed. Any thoughts on that? (obviously that would mean leaving the hatch open to rain and bugs, but I figure on nice nights it would work. Also, roughly how much $ do you think this whole build costs? Lastly, is there anything you would do differently next time? Thanks again! -Nate

    • @mattieinthemountains1812
      @mattieinthemountains1812 3 года назад

      Hi Nathan - I like the idea of using the drawer as a bed platform extension. My build is 74 inches long so you would only need 3 more inches to support your height. Only issue would be the difference in height between the top of the drawer and the platform (about 3/4 inches). My thought is you could just lay some clothes or a pillow down on the false top to fix the discrepancy. I'd recommend getting something like this - www.amazon.com/Napier-Sportz-Cove-61500-Minivan/dp/B01NA6NXB3/ref=asc_df_B01NA6NXB3/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=218094726470&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=4471697968747163508&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9002424&hvtargid=pla-356353890943&psc=1 - so you can extend the drawer and not get bothered by bugs. I spent around $200 total for this build. The most expensive part was the wood. I'm really really pleased with the functionality and ease of use of this system. I might have gone with 2x10s instead of 2x8s to have a little more room in the drawers/understorage, but with your height I think 2x8s are still the way to go. Let me know if you have any more questions!

    Love the build Matt. My question is have you put a lot of weight on the platform, more specifically the rear part of the platform, closer to the lift gate. Reason why I ask is because I use my car to carry (sometimes) up to 2,000 pounds in the rear. Of course I know it’s wood so it’s possible it would break the platform but what would you say the weight capacity of this platform is?
