Question: Why does the sleeper board have a seam running down the middle with screws and washers holding the two pieces together? Why not a single board?
This is primarily to enable left/right side configurations as desired. Typically though we aren't seeing a lot of interest in that, so we have certainly considered making this a single piece across! There is a minimalist structure underneath this panel, so the strength wouldn't be much different either way.
Can I use the sleeping platform with the back seat completely removed? For everyday use, I want the back seat for potential passengers. But, if I'm going on a trip, I'd like to remove the back seat and take advantage of all that storage space underneath the platform.
That's exactly what we intended the system for! Our sleeping platform can be used completely independently of the 2nd row seats. We can do exactly what you described with this. We have even added top-access panels in the sleeper before to help access that storage area underneath when deployed.
@@airdowngearup is there a separate slider for when seats are out? So, the seats-out version is longer with access hatches, and seats-in is shorter with no hatches?
@@paulvarese1405 The seat-delete system does have a longer sleeper, simply because the seats themselves occupy some of the length available inside the vehicle. As for the hatches, you can also add an access hatch to the convertible (seats in) sleeper.
Are those slide out tables strong enough to sit on? If not, Could you guys design a slide out table strong enough to sit on? I think they'd sell like hotcakes. I'd def buy one. Like many others I missed the chance to get the slide out table at the time of purchasing my 4R
So this is likely a stupid question but...how do yiu get in and out of the sleeping platform? I have a 4 Runner and there's no way to open the tailgate from inside. Getting in and out from the side is almost comical. God forbid you need a bathroom in the middle of the night and find yourself looking at the bolts you used to mount your nice running boards with your feet still in the truck.
That's a great question! This is a MAJOR miss from toyota in our opinion not having a factory switch inside. Thanksfully there is an aftermarket company that provides a solution! We put a little video together on this fantastic solution: ruclips.net/video/Aag361v3-qc/видео.html
Absolutely! The 3rd row delete can be found here : www.airdowngearup.com/products/ss1-5th-gen-4r-sleeper-drawer-builder-3rd-row-delete?variant=42578481905823
Total weight of our standard drawer + sleeper system is right about 150 pounds. This entire assembly can be installed/removed as a single unit with 4 turnbuckles. In the shop we can install/remove a system in about 15 minutes. you can check out this video for how we install/tighten the turnbuckles ruclips.net/video/DUDuAi20ETc/видео.html
Nice system but you lost me a bit at the break down of the rear seats sleeping section. Nice that's its removable, nice that it locks in to self but that also means you have to remove all any gear from it. Can't use a fridge or any other extra gear either.
A few thing to unpack here so let's jump in! Fridge + full width sleeper: you are correct, two people and a full size fridge do not fit, just not enough volume in the vehicle. We have a solution though! You can substitute a Dometic CD30 drawer-style fridge that fits in place of the storage drawer. This allows sleeping for two and refrigeration. Stowed gear: technically anything on top of the sleeper can stay on while it's being deployed/stowed if that's what you're after. You can also travel with the sleeper deployed, so the flexibility is there, it's up to you how you choose to utilize it! Convertible means you set it up to best meet your trips needs
What a fantastic set up. Thank you very, very much for showing us. JP
SUPER excited to get mine! Thanks for your impeccable customer service, Andy!

Very very nice, so good.👍👌🙏🌹
Thanks!
Very innovative design. Wish you said at the end how much it all weighed.
Great point! The entire system weighs 145 pounds

Interesting slide for the platform! What is that slide called?
That looks pretty impressive. Will this install in any 5th gen 4runner? Specifically one with the 3rd row seat?

@@airdowngearup are there any options if you don't want to remove the 3rd row seat? I want a platform that fits over the 3rd row when folded down.
Looks great, but $5k is a lot of money when there are a lot of options that cost less than half of that.
