Brian Smith is the half back for St George and he was at Souths in 75 and Joe Cool in his first year at Wests is the full back back so it has to be 1974. Fantastic footage.
Game is from 1974, John Dorahy's (no.1) first season with Wests. You can see him in the footage. Dorahy did not play in the Lidcombe games against St.George in 1975, 1976 and 1977 playing again in 1978 by which time Langlands had retired. The referee is Gary Cook.
Excellent footage. I could well have been at this game, I went to countless games at Lidcombe (and Belmore) between 1969 and about 1975/76, having uncles and cousins that followed Canterbury and Wests, and I followed St George, which was irrelevant, as we went whoever they were playing, unless it was a Saturday, we never went on Saturdays.
St. George playing in long sleeve jerseys. Wests in short sleeve jerseys. The first ever team to do so. That puts the year at 1974, as St. George, along with Parramatta and North Sydney 'Summer' strip (red with black V) also reverted to short sleeves (in 1975). 1975 was also the first year that Eastern Suburbs first used the 3/4 length sleeve jerseys. A trend that became popular in the late 80s and all through the 90s, even for the teams that had taken up short sleeve jerseys.

Noted with thanks. I’ve added “1974 or 1975” as the year but will change it to 1974 as soon as I can get a few more confirmations.

Noted with thanks. I’ll fix the date.

Yeah I was definitely there that day. Was Wests 4th win on the trot and they were really starting to look like something special.
