    This is the oldest match I have seen on RUclips- thank you so much. old Manly Warringah Sea Eagles supporter but supporter of old NRL matches! Wonderful

    Beaut to watch,Manly played with plenty of spirit lots of ball movement an effort,Drags way strong,Bull an Mossop in th action,the gritty play of Poppa Clay a standout

    how about the flimsy padding around the goal posts...it was rough back then, heavy boots with big metal studs, jumpers that weighed about 50 lb., unlimited tackle...I played it as a skinny kid...brutal stuff

    Interesting to see how much the game has changed. Defending teams allowed to be 2-3 metres in front of the ruck (unless that ref was a shocker). Improvisation, not strategy was king. The attempted kicking of the ball by the marker in so many play-the-balls was the first time I'd seen that. Maybe that led to the six tackles again rule?

    I am always intrigued as to why Australian rugby league referees from this era wore white cotton piping instead of regular boot laces. Was it a legacy of the army and WW2? Boots polished, immaculately turned out etc. I can see no other explanation. Does anyone know?

    Very convoluted coverage. Score was 4-4 then a few minutes later Manly kick a goal to make it 4-2.

    Half time and saints lead 9 - 4 ... watching this clip seemed manly had the ball all the time ? Same 2nd half ? Yet saints win 31 - 9 ?
