    For me perhaps the best game you have placed on this site. Wonderful to see players from 1974 many of whom I am seeing for the first time having heard of them via Big League back in the day.

      Thanks Michael, a great trip back, watching this one reminded of some of these players and in particular a semi final of 1974, West's v Souths. Wests took a short kick off and Russell Mullins ran through, jumped, caught the ball and ran 40 metres to score. Anyway, that's how I remember it, now to check if I am right.

    Beetson would have been sent off today for the spear tackle

    Wow. Thanks for this old video. Great to see Beetson play again. Love watching the Maggies from the old days, even though we didn't win!!

      That's when you know you have a keen eye for footy. You can appreciate the plays, tackles and the tries regardless of the colour of the jersey.

      I followed Wests for 33 years. Right up to the end. 'Even though we didn't win' was a regular occurrence. Some years it was virtually every week.

    I'm a AFL supporter, but I must say that the Western Suburbs change of jerseys because of a colour clash at the start of the 2nd half really was ahead of its time. It was another 25 years later before the AFL did colour clash jumpers on a regular basis.

    I remember the season well, I was a fairly new St George supporter (for about 6 years) and it was the first season they missed the semis in God knows how long. But my uncles and cousins were Wests supporters and they made the semis, and I adopted them for a few weeks.

    Why did Wests change their jumpers at half time?

    • @eagleeric2598
      @eagleeric2598  9 месяцев назад

      I have had a look at the Big League and RLW and no mention. The only reasons that are obvious for a change are they were wet (it was a dry day), it was too hot (no mention of that in the call) or the broadcaster felt that the jerseys were too similar in black and white coverage (the commentators only highlighted that Wests were wearing their summer jerseys).

      I think the black and white tv would probably be the reason. I never liked those basic white jumpers. Black with white v's. That was Western Suburbs.
