wests finished near the bottom in 1977 and easts near the top, but Magpie Spirt prevaled
Rex,the man who described Bondi as our oldest beach 😂😂😂😂
Roy "Head Butt" Slaven and HG "Tools" Nelson are the most vivaious conglomerate ever to commentate on World Rugby League,. Period!
I was at that game, an innocent 12 year old.
I was at this game, and Ecca Simms scored all 14 of Souths points!
When I was little I used to think Bill Hamilton was the worst player ever... Not far wrong.
Great camera work. You can see the sweep of the game. Modern camera work changes view every 4-7 seconds. Drives you nuts.
31/7/1977
Oh is that right? Thanks for that Eagleeric. I trust your honest judgement & will rectify it.
Dorahy's send off was ridiculous.
RIP Geoff Robinson and Dave Allison - some rare footage of him playing.
if you have any videos, i can convert them to digital format
Thanks. I’ve done conversions on all of mine so I’m fine.
penrith park
Thanks
Anyone know the venue?
Slightly different from what I recalled. Were I to recount what happened, without having this as a reference, I'd have recalled it as Balmain scoring a converted try to thus be trailing by 13 to 17, then St. George finishing the brief challenge with a converted try to win the match by 22 to 13. So that is memory playing tricks. Also, I did not realise that Balmain were anything like equal on the table with St. George that far into the season. I knew they were in the 5, but not that prominent.
as a queenslander, i knew that tommy was a pom who played for brisbane norths. i was unaware that he'd come south of the border later in his career.
It’s those days listening to him on the radio
Mortimer, Dorahy, Rogers,Kenny later .WHAT GIFTS
And not 1 islander player on the field, how things have changed.
Have been a Canterbury follower and always cringed when we played against Wests. But those games made interesting viewing.
Tough lad 🇬🇧👊🏻
is this game from your videos or traded with other collectors?
Traded.
I remember watching it on tv in 1969
My under 12 local club coach was a bit of a roughy. He would always tell us that "you can't run without a head".
How bout Roy Masters Hippie Hoddie in the dressing room
Some top players there. Everyone except South fans were going for the Tigers in the GF and they produced a massive upset.
That was beautifully orchestrated!
Like GWS Giants v Sydney Swans.
You wouldn't credit it [ figure of speech ], but I myself did a cassette recording of a live audio broadcast of this very match. It was off the radio and not the TV, the national broadcaster, the ABC,, and I recorded the entire match broadcast onto one of those blank cassettes, and then I pasted the final score details and a picture of Greg Cox on the generic cover., from a cut out probably out of Rugby League Week. [ Effin' typo with the scoring details, as I remember, but it fitted the sleeve. ]. Anyway, that survived into the 1980s. I passed it on to a brother-on-law 5 years on. Maybe he still has it after 40+ years.
OMG I remember watching this. 1979 was the year I started watching rugby league.
rod morris, a queenslander playing for nsw.
Great wests top the only magpies I ever liked was wests until they merged with Balmain
"Of course it's well known, Connie, that you're a hero to the Greek community here."
better than wwe today haha 😂
That was actually entertaining.
1980 they played in mud, had to change their jerseys at half time and yes predominately brown jerseys for Penrith
6:10 , who is the man and who is the woman?
I remember most of those ads....maybe I watched too much TV :)
This was WCW? Where was the nWo?
The host's desk was made out of Papier Mache
Never seen aussie wrestling at all , thanks
I love this…the first couple of botched moves make it look more like a real brawl! Great work boys!
that desk didnt do too well. The Baby Face started the fight which was a surprise. It was a Pier 6 Brawl...
Bret and Jim look so young here. I almost didn’t recognize them.
0:05 You want him to take *WHAT?!* 😂
When footy was good!
Did I see right??? Did they just smashed up a styrofoam desk?? lol
Darn, I don’t know how the algorithm put this in my feed, but I was glued to watching this match, every name of every player brought back such great times and memories….I played that field (Belmore Oval) so many times as a junior and watched so many games there…thanks for posting, that was awesome
Excellent post. And Reg’s choice was correct - not surprisingly, being a proven expert of attacking play himself.
Hi @tomytiger thanks for the upload. I love the nostalgia. This is proof of where the game was born. Tough men playing a hard game that's been watered down. Can you imagine a woman team in those days? Great to see in the footage some things we may have forgoten. Barely any advertising, cardboard b&w corner posts, 5 yard rule, a 3 man scrum, knock ons without the video ref scrutiny, and the police paddy wagon parked on the hill.. No doubt they were very different times.
Does anyone know if this was the territory 'My Boy' Jim Barnett was booking in? He wouldn't have been there at this time cuz it looks like late 1980s or early '90s and I believe he left Auzzieland in the 70s. I was curious cuz I've even heard from Harley about the wild times down there when 'My Boy' was booking.
