Lmaooo the "proper game" is borderline unwatchable. A sane mind can only handle so many shunted kicks, knock-ons, incomplete sets and toothless, directionless attacking before it starts to go insane. The modern game is smooth like butter, has better strategy, skill, fitness, etc. Soo much easier on the eye. Both are equally as intense I will grant, but I'd argue ONLY your boomer friends and fellow old heads are the ones who would want the old game back, and not because it's watchable, because its nostalgic... fuk outta ereeee Dougie boy
Just a weekend game … absolutely amazing … you don’t even get this type of “enthusiasm” in the modern day state of origin or grand final games . Just proof of the bullshit hype that now surrounds the game ! Unfortunately the game will never be the same again I’m very grateful for growing up with the “real” game of rugby league.
Been watching League for 45 years. Loved the biff of the 70's and 80's, but I prefer today's game. You don't have to gouge, King Hit, and bite to prove you are tough. The average player today is 100kg, 180cms, can run 100m in under 12 seconds. Anyone who puts their body in front of that juggernaut is 'effing' tough.
Not a prob. Hopefully this much abbreviated version (compared to my previous full match) won’t infringe any copyright this time so hopefully RUclips won’t block it.
"Mooney's just been kicked in the face... "It might have been accidental... No, Dorahy got an accidental kick in the face and there was the retaliation - and that is a little bit silly from both players."
Commitment by players in attack & Defense amazin, yehh i agree,Origin today doesn't ave that much effort from many of these grade games,so glad messy scrums fixed,an were open to corruption, not that they did that,
Horse crap. Everyone dished it out and everyone copped it. Wests were dubbed "the bad boys" because they lacked the prestige of some of the other clubs.
How this great game has gone soft. The players today wouldn't last 10 minutes against players like Tom Raudonikis (Unsure how it's spelt sorry) & real forwards like Langmack ,Thompson, Krilich etc. They are not footballers like Sterling, Kenny, Steve Ella they are just athletes which can tackle. No matter where Wests were on the table they were very hard to beat at Lidcombe. Personally, i thought Lidcombe Oval was a great ground with a great atmosphere. It was a mistake to merge with Balmain. It was a shot gun wedding & Wests were not merging, they were taken over. Bring back the biff!
I thought your transphobic comment was off topic and inappropriate. So...I thought I'd throw a light hearted fact in there for the sake of humour. You sound young and taking this too seriously. Chill out mate, bullying doesn't make me feel good. ✌
Nothing like a Silvertails v Fibros on a Sunday afternoon at the 8th wonder of the world..Brookvale Oval..with of course expert commentary by the great Moose Mossop...now that's Rugby League. GO THE EAGLES. 😊
Was a tough affair back in the day. All knees, elbows, boot tags, facials, eye gouging, hair pulling, biting, stomping, head butting, head highs, coat hangers, getting dumped head first into the dirt, swinging arms, getting king hit from behind, blood, playing dazed, coaches smoking in the stands.
Wests were minor premiers in 78 and 79 and thus clearly the best team then. Anything can happen during the finals, especially at the whim of a ref answering to the powers that be
That sounds good ... But if you are trying to attract the next generation of players.. you need to win the parents... They don't want their child coming home with no teeth (extreme example I know) that's why you see international Rugby being radically cleaned up.. soccer is just waiting there to capture parents that have a bad experience with junior league.

The babies these days wouldn't make it to half time these men were drinking beer and smoking at half time and in the pub right after the game and then chasing a garbage truck at 5 in the morning for training
Magnificent. After bashing each other for 80 minutes these blokes would share beers, ciggys and wives in the training sheds and car parks of Brookvale Oval and Henson Park. They did that after the game and before training.
No tattoo's, no funny hairdo's, proper scrums, real men playing the game properly!
Real men don’t do cheap shots.

Bugger all money + no camera posing
Totally different game to the modern era. Loved it growing up!! Up the Magpies!!

That Wests line up, man that brings back some great memories.

I remember these days. Both teams hated each other. And they showed it on the field.
I saw Wests v Manly in 1979 but it was the Lidcombe Oval game. Bottles of Coke topped up with Jim Beam.
an all in brawl with occasional moments of football
😮it was personal in those days.
Game would be called off in 2023
It was brutal! And those swinging arms - Owen Farrel is an angel in comparison!
Naughty
Farrel is a grub, well suited for this era.
Thanks again TT for the upload.

Love Rexy.
Yea Rex was gd
Rex Messup
peak of the fibros wars
Good old Rex Mossop
Les Boyd !!!!
Wonder how many have CTE these days?
If this game was policed by today's standards it would be abandoned before half time because 90% of the players would be sent off or in the bin.
😂😂
As my league coach used to say when someone said ‘you can’t run without legs’, ‘you can’t run without a head either’.
😄👌
I was at that game, an innocent 12 year old.
Was that mooney no2 that was floored with that king hit in that brawl. He would have been banned for life in todays game.
No, poor old Max Krillich
back when men were men ....
Commitment by players in attack & Defense amazin, yehh i agree,Origin today doesn't ave that much effort from many of these grade games,so glad messy scrums fixed,an were open to corruption, not that they did that,
Rex Messup is a better commentator then the idiots of Today.
Manly always used to win the fight as well.
Newtown*
There would not have been enough players to finish the game under todays rules. That kick in the face would have a player out for the season.
Full on ripped off western suburbs for Grand final as always West forever 007
please AI up scaling on this!
Western Suburbs grubs.

Yes a brutal at times mans game in the day, but Donelly, cowardly cheap shot
Was Donnelly the only player in that game to give a cowardly cheap shot?
Manly were Fibrophobs
Transphobic
🌈🌲 = Transplant.

Why? Plants change their gender too. What's the prob?

10:54 - what a dog-act by Donnelly. Picks out the smallest guy on the field and hits him from behind.
There were loads of dog acts in the 70s and 80s. And no doubt before and since.
F**k i miss the 70s

Great list, but you forgot the
Squirrel Grip.
And the Christmas Hold.
@@peterpiper831 What's a squirrel grip? Sorry for being n00b.
Good names here
Few from the Magpies went on the play for Manly.
Ah those were the days were men
played real Rugby League.
Donnelly and Boyd both got stitched up beautifully. Donnelly king hitting Krilich and then got sat on his backside by Thompson.
EVERYONE for EVER ! HAVE HATED VAUTIN. Something to do with getting away with a disgraceful act first week in Sydney.
You mean what he did to his wife ?
Funny thing with all their thuggery the magpies never won nothing except the brawls

@11:35 Roy wearing a poncho and having a dart. Gee league used to be awesome. I haven’t followed it since 92.
Now West line up what a team
10.56 Dallas on Max
You’re absolutely correct- Knight got him real good
Very tough footy
now that would bring me back to league ...
Where's the accidental kick in the face these days 😢
