- Stan Zbornak (Herb Edleman) is kinda of like the unofficial fifth Golden Girls on the show. Though he was only featured in 26 episodes throughout the series, his presence is always felt. It can be hard to imagine Dorothy Zbornak (Bea Arthur) married to Stan, until you hear some of his own comebacks!
Let us know in the comments below, could you imagine being married to Stan or Dorothy? What Stan comeback is your favorite?

"...In 38 years of marriage, you'd never once cooked a terrific meal for us".
"Neither did you".
LMAO burn! 😂😂
Like a 3rd degree burn
Like Dorothy's pot roast burn!
LOLOL
That was my favorite. Lol
Cant help but like Stan. Great character
I just found out he died in 1996, but no one hardly mentions him, just the women, and yes I know the show was mainly about them, but he was on the show a lot.
He was like the 5th main character in a way
Herb Edelman deserved an Emmy for GG. At least he was nominated twice.
Absolutely fantastic as Stan!
"Your chins too, Dorothy."
That one will always be my favorite.
Don't hear that as a favorite line often!
😂🔥😘🎉😀
I was glad to see that he and Dorothy parted as good friends in the last episode right before her marriage to a new husband, and that they both said how they would always love each other.
I hear that. totally agree
I'm surprised they writers didn't have Stan give her away at her wedding. It would be ideal for his to have closure as Dorothy would "no longer be his".
I hate when people portray him as the worst person in the world, he might be a cheater but he's clearly a better man than in his past, although he's still a sly fox, and also he was never a abuser, he knew his boundaries very clearly and respected Dorothy more after the whole ordeal.
I love Stan’s character development. Glad the writers let him go in that journey instead of doing what they did with Phil and having him never actually be onscreen
"Your chins too, Dorothy" has always been my favorite but once when Sophia said she liked his wig, I wanted him to say back that he liked hers as well.
Stan treated Sophia with a fair bit of politeness and respect - more than he showed Dorothy. I don't remember any snarky lines from him directed at Sophia.
With all the barbs back and forth you could still tell Dorothy and Stan had a mutual admiration for each other. Bea and Herb were so good together.
I hear with you on that.
Stan usually the one that gets bullied 🤣 nice to see him claps back every once in a while
I hear you on that.
love stan he complimented the show
I agree! He was a nice balance to the four girls, completely different!
The Hail Mary & Virgin snaps! LOL!!!! TOO FUNNY!!!!
Boom
holy cow never realized how savage Stan actually was
Right??? When you put it together it's like damn Stan
You’re with someone for 38 years, you’ll know how to quip back at them
@@adamjustadam Especially if that someone is Dorothy Zbornak. Stan obviously learned from her.
Stan was the perfect foil to Dorothys sardonic worldly gun fire fast put downs and observations. He would never outshine her, physically or verbally, but in his own way could handle the burns and give them back.
He kind of reminded me of Rose in that capacity.
They made an unlikely couple, him with his toupees and 70s suits and Dorothy being like a Roman Goddess or something, but somehow it worked!
He was a good character which is why it was right to have more of him in it. I would have loved to see Charlie, Roses husband in some way, as I can never quite picture him.
It was interesting that technically, unless you count Mrs. George Devereaux episode and the few Sal flashbacks, that we don't have any real pictures of the spouses. because they passed away.
@@StayGoldenGirls I think you were going to say because they have passed away?
Surely though they'd have photos of them round, especially Rose who seemed to have a great relationship with Charlie?
Ha ha I'm way too involved in the GG!!!!
@@JasmineSurrealVideos My comment got cut off, yes, not physical pictures but establishing them as characters beyond the stories told by their living relatives. We do not really know Charlie or George or Sal beyond what the audience is told, through the filter of another character. Stan is told to us through Dorothy and his own actions/behaviors.
Actually there is a ‘Golden Palace’ episode where Rose falls for a man who is the spitting image of Charlie. Eddie Albert played the part. Good casting choice. 👍❤️
@@JasmineSurrealVideos If they ever showed a picture of Charlie, it should have been a picture of Betty’s real life beloved husband Allen whom she loved until the end.
What I love is how he calls Dorothy's cooking crap lol
I can only imagine. Maybe she didn't inherit Sophia's gene?
lmao probably not.
Not only did Stan mention it, Rose did so too in the episode “A Midwinter Night’s Dream”.
“No offense, Dorothy. But you’re cupcakes are dry and tasteless!” 😆😂🤣
I don’t know about the rest of you, but my favorite Stan moment is from S5 EP12 ‘Have Yourself a Very Little Christmas’ when he dressed up as Santa and gave all of the toys he was planning to sell to the kids at the soup kitchen.
That is a lovely scene!
Stan’s character development is beautiful
Herb Edleman only appeared in 28 episodes?
I thought he appeared in a lot more then that.
Actually, the real number is 26. I miswrote it and need to fix it. It FEELS like he was in a lot more episodes, however when it is broken down it amounts to like a full season worth of episodes spread across.
@@StayGoldenGirls He's talked about a lot so you think he is there, and there are a few times you get one ended phone call with him, so it's only Bea we see and hear, so no Herb, again you think Stan was in the episode when he wasn't.
Out of 180 episodes. That’s at least a few appearances per season.
Props to Herbert Eldmen. Even though Stan was a cheat, a mooch, a yutz among other things. Herbert still manages to make you still love him in some way
Totally
If Stan and Dorothy had, in fact, gotten back together, there could've been another GG spinoff: "Stan and Dorothy make a Zborno."
Ha
Rob Bernath ???
Oh no! That other scene with Ted wasn’t included when Stan said I can’t believe you’d stoop this low and Dorothy says you can’t talk to me that way and he says I was talking to Ted! That was a good one!
We promise to do more Stan and other character lists, we promise it will show up!
Stan is just hammering Dorothy lol 😂
For real. When doing this, I was like damn yeah pretty much every single one of these is directed at his ex wife!
Stay Golden Dorothy’s comebacks at Stan are funnier :) I honestly didn’t know Stan had it in him though!
Right! She does catch him harder than he does he, he can get one or two in though!
Imani Gause Look at number ten, and you will find that he also hammer Blanche as well, just like everyone hammer her libido.
Dorothy got WAY more zingers in on him than he did on her. But when he did it, he still did pretty good.
Stan was just a great character. If you think about it, he is like all four Golden Girls combined. Naive like Rose, a whore like Blanche, a bit pathetic like Dorothy, and says whats ever on his mind like Sophia.
You know Dylan I think you are onto something here. I haven't thought of Stan in this way before. He is a combination of all three of the women! In doing this list, I watches most of his 26 episodes and over the course of the series, Stan actually evolved as well. I didn't notice it because watching all 7 seasons in bulk, you might forget him. Only watching his episodes, you can see him making more efforts and the "zingers" towards Dorothy lessen come seasons 6 and 7.
*"... someone not too obviously sexy!"*
Uuuh, simple but good! 😆👌🏼
Ha
The scene when he demanded that the doctor keep them up to date on Sophia makes me wish that they made it.
When we do a new stan list with a different theme we can include
@@StayGoldenGirls You can do a A series of clips were Stan really came through.
They didn't make it because stan did something so wrong and so despicable that him and Dorothy didn't make it. He ruined their marriage the first time then he screwed it up right before the 2nd time.
@@nicolenewsome4863 I know, but it makes me wish that Stan had treated her better throughout their marriage is what I was saying
When I was young I Did not realise how good this show was! It was well written so modern!
These women are gorgeous, sexy, etc thanks for your channel I am a big fan.
I always watch a clip before sleeping!
Thanks for checking us out!
Could you make one where Dorothy clapped back at Stan 😂
That is a list we can add to our make list for sure.
Amaya Kelly great idea. Her comebacks at Stan were hilarious
That would be 17 hours long!
Truth. Settle in folks, could be a long one.
Amaya Kelly This would be hilarious. 😂😂
Finally! A video for Stan :D
Thanks for making this.
I hear you, it was about time he got his time in the limelight!!
Yep. It took him long enough, poor guy XD
Agreed
What about....
Stan: Dorothy, what the hell are you doing with my brother?
Dorothy: Calm down, Stanley. It's just a routine search.
Stan: (angrily) I can't believe that you're so desperate that you'd stoop to this!
Dorothy: You can't talk to me that way.
Stan: I was talking to TED!!!!
(They both look at him surprised)
Stan: (to Ted) LET'S GO!
Ted: Look, Stan, I'm not a child. I'll go when I'm ready!
Dorothy: Good for you, Ted.
(Stan scowls at Ted)
Ted: (meekly) Ok, I'm ready.
Then later on when Stan says, “Ted, there are some things you should know about Dorothy. She snores like a freight train.” 😆😂🤣
@@nukacolanut9274 And Sophia's a witness.
Thats a Three Stooges reference.
Ted-what a rotter!! I really hoped he’d fall for Dorothy to piss Stan off!
Love this! 😂😂💘💘
Thank you for watching! Glad you enjoyed!
Stan was the Man!!
Stan deserves some more video love!!
(Dorothy and Stan are in the waiting room worrying a Sophia.)
Nurse Practitioner: (says something inaudible to the doctor behind the door)
Doctor: Look, there's been no change on the Petrillo case. We are very busy. We'll call when we can.
Stan: Listen, buddy, Sophia may be just another "case" to you, but we happen to love her! So, we want to know how she is regardless! So, from now on, I wanna be informed every hour on the hour! Do you understand me?
Doctor: I'm sorry, sir, I'll see that you're kept informed.
(The doctor exits.)
Dorothy: You were magnificent!
Stan: I have my moments.
He does have his moments I agree
@@StayGoldenGirls Fortunately, that happened to be one of them.
This is such a wonderful idea!! Stan comebacks are so underrated, I like to think that he picked up a thing or two from Dorothy after living with her for 38 years!! I don’t know what he would have done, but I think his character should’ve gotten thrown into the mix of “Dorothy's new friend” (The Barbara Thorndyke episode).
I hear you on that! Stan deserves some love too
10 will ALWAYS be my favorite!
;)
No.10 is the best 😂😂😂😂😂
;)
Lol it was perfect 😅
There is only 1 episode where Stan really pissed me off was the episode where he recently came into money and he made Dorothy fall in love with him again so much so they were on their way to get married again and right before they are about to get married he hires a lawyer and not only for his profession but, also hires him as best man for their wedding and it turned out the lawyer specializes in iron clad pre nuptial agreements and Stan tries to get Dorothy to sign it even though his adultery was the reason why the first time they were married their marriage fell apart.
Right after he invted the Zbornie, mhm. I hear that.
Stan is the funniest... " Some one not too ovsely sexy.... you'd have to be to believe she was a virgin... lol
YEAH STAN!!! Shout out to Stan
#10 - his laugh is hilarious 🤣
Yeaaa
Lol one of my favorite
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Damn Stan
Right!?!
He even clapped back at blanche "to make anyone believe she was a virgin"
❤️👍
While some of these are funny. You can tell the writers didn't go out of their way to make them hilarious. At the end of the day it is about making the girls shine, in my opinion. Lol 😂
I feel you on that one. They aren't rolling on the floor hysterical. They might not feel good about his voice and writing for him as much as the girls.
Stay Golden You are probably right on that! 😀 😊 ☺
@@everydaymarvin2490 The one at 3:34 is one Dorothy or Sophia could just as easily have said.
You must be real fun at parties 😒😒
I loved Stan's character. He proved to be witty, charming and full of comebacks showing he wasn't just going to take the jokes. You were equal to him I think. No, I don't approve of Stan's marriage issues but let's face it, being married to Dorothy couldn't have been easy.
I agree being married to stan would not be easy
I just wonder where did Dorothy learn to clap back from. Probably from Stan. Lol
Why do you think Stan taught her?
If you been married for 38 yrs you should be able to learn many things from your spouse. Idk if Dorothy was already a clap back person b4 marrying Stan but do know they been going at it 4 a very long time. RIP to both of them
Okay.
It's more than likely that she got it from her mother. Seriously, Sophia was a whirlwind of roasts. Dorothy may be more subdued in comparison to Sophia, but being raised by her definitely shows in her witty responses.
Oh, I remember. I wasn’t happy at home under the sheets.
Ooo
Something I just realised: if Stan and Dorothy were married for 38 years, and they got married because Dorothy was pregnant, and were divorced for some amount of time, then how come both of their kids seem to be in their 20s/early 30s?? Michael is implied to be the older one, but if he was 38+ then him marrying Lorraine, a woman in her 40s, wouldn't be such a big deal. Golden Girls has had some plot holes over the years, but unless there was an older child that was never mentioned, how do they explain this??
The ages of all the children and grandchildren, especially Dorothy's as you note, are a hot mess. They should be older than they are said to be on the show and they don't address it and just live with the major inconsistency
Also, it’s weird how their children seem oddly unbothered by the scummy things Stan did to Dorothy, you’d think they’d cut contact with him or something
Loved this...tomorrow is my birthday...thanks for this!!
Melissa Cunningham happy birthday
Your birthday tomorrow!!!! How are you going to celebrate? Happy early birthday!!!
Stay Golden prob just have dinner or something....I asked for a golden girls shirt so we shall see!!!
Well I hope you get it!!
Number 10 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Right?!
@@StayGoldenGirls Definitely my number one favorite. I agree also number 10 is the best one.
Love this show.
😉😉
I always used to feel sorry for Stan. Why didn't they include his mother who insults Dorothy
You mean why wasn't she included in this list? What made you feel sorry for Stan?
@@StayGoldenGirls Because the poor guy to a degree had Peter Pan Syndrome.... Wasn't his fault
@@markmullins132a bit tricky to feel sorry for someone who did the cowardly and dirty things he did, especially after 38 years of marriage.
Number 5.....😭😭😭. Stan was wrong for that!🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
I hear you.
Stan was a Bonified Stud
We all have the right to our opinions
@@StayGoldenGirls Judging by your response you disagree with me but look at it, he left Dorothy for a hot young bombshell who was like 23 years old, he dated Blanche, when Dorothy thought he was in a hotel room with Blanche it turned out he was in bed with another young beauty queen, he had numerous affairs while married to Dorothy (not saying it's right but facts are facts) with a bunch of hot young women and he was married to another girl in the fourth season who was pretty hot
Well we all view physical attractiveness differently. Also, while he did date younger woman, you may not be taking into account their motivations for dating him. His physical appearance. Money? Something else they used him for? To me, his dating them doesn't mean they choose him because of the way he looks. Two people, two motivations.
@@StayGoldenGirls I don't think it was his money because he never had any. With that said I don't think he was a bad person, I think he just had a hard time growing up and accepting responsibility
Doesn't mean the women didn't know that until they got into it too far. Men can pretend a great deal.
1 of my favourite dorothy burns is this
Stan: what about me babe
Dorothy: go Hug a landemine
Love it
GOLDEN GIRLS GOOD DAYS GOOD LAUGHS IN WORDS OF ARCHIE BUNKER THOSE WERE THE DAYS
haaa
I always thought it was kinda odd how he would announce that it's him by saying "Hey, it's me, Stan" yet everyone knows it's him lmao
Ha. Oh Stan
No disrespect, but I actually loved that part. Of course it was obvious, but it was funny and gimmicky, which was the point.
@@cherylmacvane8791 I agree, just saying lol
I with there was an interview with him...

Idk how so many insults can be tossed around without it feeling too mean-spirited
I think it does end up feeling mean spirited at points
Oh, there’s nothing to be afraid of. I’ve been through a couple of hurricanes. Actually, they can be kind of fun. I remember one when I was married.
Oo
Oh, sorry, Stan. There are other vegetables that I have to go out with.
Ha
I really have to run now. I’m fixing a terrific late night supper for Catherine.
Ha
Number 10 was a great one Blanche whole self and how she dresses practically says I’m open for business cash money first before doing any kind of services lol am I right?
I feel Ya on that one!
I agree with the previous commenter that said Stan is the man and I'm glad this channel exists to document our mutual love for the show. Also please bring back the pretty girl that sometimes talks about the episodes. If she gets more face time I bet your subscriber count will double.
July 8 is the next rankings video where she will make an appearance
Stan is probably the most cartoonish character in the show
I can see that
He has so much more energy than the other characters, it’s amazing
Golden retriever energy I've heard it be called
#11 hilarious 😂 😂😂😂
Mhm
I got to know the show bcuz of this channel.

I hear that
Herb was amazing
I do love me some Stan
Herb Edleman) was so funny
I agree so much.
And handsome guy too - have seen his acting as a young man ❤ very talented actor & comedian. 😘 Stan & Dorothy = Chemistry! Always funny 💘
Zbornie
The potato tool of the future.
OT but 3:01 it's not unusual for widowed women to enter a nunnery and take vows.
I hear you on that one.
OK, just use 50 old Hail Marys on that one.
Ha
Who invited you?
Exactly. Who did?!?
Stan's comebacks were good, but no where near as great as Dorothy's or Sophia's. I will say this though, you have to really like someone a lot in this industry to be able to insult them and slam doors in their face a million times over.
I hear you.
He certainly held his own though with those comebacks.
In real life Stan (Herbert Edelman) was actually 10 years younger than Dorothy (Bea Arthur). Bea was born in 1922 and Herb in 1933. He was closer in age to Blanche (Rue McClanahan), she was born in 1934. 😊👍
When Dorothy got "knocked up at 17", Stan would have been 7 years old. YIKES!!! 😳
Thank you for sharing!
I thought Stan seemed younger than Dorothy but guess the balding sort of made him look older?
@@JasmineSurrealVideos I agree the balding made him look older. I do believe he is slightly older maybe a year ahead because Dorothy had mentioned at one point Stan saying he was "going overseas" and that was a rouse which meant he needed to be 18 and we know Dorothy was still in HS.
@@StayGoldenGirls Thanks that explains it!
And Estelle Getty was actually a year younger than Bea Arthur in real life.
Keep your chin up, princess.
I shall
I’ve never been through a hurricane before.

It seems a little bit of Dorothy rubbed off on Stan, no wonder in 38 years even if it wasn't the best marriage in the world it was bound to happen.

I do think Stan was a jerk in many ways and was insecure, but Dorothy was rude and condescending to him at times too. It takes two to tango, and I think he might've cheated on her due to her attitude towards him, not that it's justified.
I hear what you are saying
@@StayGoldenGirls Dorothy didn't deserve a loser like Stan, but she herself was obnoxious to him at times and was a bully to him all the while being submissive to her disrespectful mother. Stan did love her, and she should've at least been respectful to him somewhat. Stan deserved better too imo,
I think it is fair to say they both treated each other poorly, in different ways, and would have both been better served by breaking up sooner than they did.

“if i wanted something your fingers touched, i’d bite your crotch off and eat it”
for someone with a terrible voice
“the only way your voice soothes me is that it makes me thankful i don’t have it”
since halloween passed here’s a late halloween insult
“you are living proof that monsters really do exist”
slut comparison
“you are like a bike, ya both people ride you”
if someone asks don’t you have something to do?
“your gf/wife/bf/husband”
if someone gives their true awful feelings about you
“if that’s the way you feel about me, you are as dumb as your parents were when they conceived you”
and if someone asks who do you think you’re messing with
“someone who hasn’t finished school”
Thank you for sharing!

Vedran Iljazović i love it! ya like my insults too?
@@perfectlyinhuman yes.
Upon further reflection
Seeing as Blanche was always made out to be
The woman who was always on the lookout for the next man to seduce
And that as Stan stated that she must have been a good actress to make anyone believe that she was a virgin
I have to say that
I don't think that the actress was really one way or another
That she was neither mancrazy nor prudish
Just kind of in the middle where she forced the man to show his cards before she decided to show hers
As an actress she could play the role of Blanche but she was not really Blanche in real life
I have to say she had talent as an actress
The actor who played Stan was pretty good too
Okay
Anyways
;)
Stan is a character I both love and hate.
Agreed
He’s the definition of a character audiences will love to hate, because he’s so goofy but so slimy
Never liked him. Why did he keep coming around?
He and Dorothy had a relationship that never fully ended,.
Stan catches way more shit than he deserves. Like yeah there's no excuse for cheating but Dorothy was kind of an icy shrew when they were married. Seems like neither of them were all that happy together.
I think that is true they both did have better lives apart.
I absolutely hate Stan…lol 😆
I can see why
