  • Last week I bought the Minelab Equinox 600. These are the results from my first week of metal detecting. I share my observations after one week of detecting with the Equinox.
    Hello, my name is Merrill Kazanjian and I am a metal detectorist. This is a teaching channel where you will learn metal detecting techniques and gain knowledge. My channel, Metal Detecting NYC is a good place to learn metal detecting 101 on youtube.
    Here is a link to my channel: / metaldetectingnyc

    My art channel with 107,000+ subscribers: / youdraw
    I am a teacher and my channel will show you how to metal detect for beginners all the way through advanced techniques for metal detectorists. I am the owner of a Minelab Safari Metal Detector, a Garrett AT Pro (at pro metal detector youtube), a WOT coil and I can teach you how to recover the deepest of targets with a metal detector. My metal detecting finds include many gold and platinum rings and early American coins as well as British Colonial coins and Spanish Colonial Coins. Metal detecting is a hobby that millions of people around the world do. All you need to try is a metal detector some batteries, a digging tool and some patience. My first metal detector cost 30 dollars at BJ's and I dug enough signals to buy my first "real" metal detector with the change that I found with the 30 dollar toy model. I decided to start Metal detecting on RUclips because I feel the need to teach what I know. It has been a life changing activity for me and I want to share what I know. It is my hope that Metal Detecting NYC can become one of the biggest metal detecting youtube channels. My beach instructional videos include (or will include soon) , "metal detecting dry sand", (choosing a) "metal detecting sand scoop" and "surf hunting". On land, I use the website historic aerials to survey the history of a site so that I can continue metal detecting old homesites and other places with a lot of history. Subscribe to my channel to see my metal detector finds for 2019. Observation #11 the number on pinpoint right over target will give you more true VDI. It is another way to confirm targets. Great finds Merryl. That earing looks like maybe David Yurman.

      Chris V, congrats on you Nox purchase. I, unlike most all you tubers, did NOT fall in love with it when I first got it and began to use it. Actually I thought I screwed up buying it and wasting my money. BUT....both my digging partners had the 600 and kept encouraging me. I consider myself a pretty smart person, but it took me quite a while to get the hang of it. BUT...now, with the amount of silver (And one Solid Gold Freemason's 1906 Medallion) and other finds, I don't know how I could live without it.
      Take your time, get to know it and it will produce big time for you!!!!

    Hi Merril,
    it is a bit confusing that you put Anfibio footage in the end of an Equinox review, however, when in water with anfibio you may want to crank the gain up to around 80 and use at least 14kHz.

    Merrill, Like I said, newer viewer to you channel, so I'm going backwards catching up. I've had the Equinox about 8 months now, and even though I didn't learn it as fast as you did, I can't live without it now!!!! I pretty much agree with all 10 of your tips, including it sometimes isn't as accurate as I'd like pinpointing. I HATE digging a hole twice for the same item.
    Am also very much enjoying your monthly charts and your Millionaire series.
    Keep 'em coming.

    great video I feel as though we are in the same boat on the nokta and the equinox. I own the nokta impact , and love it. I also have access to the equinox as well. with that being said my buddy and i compare signals all the time. Both are excellent for target separation, and depth. the nokta is very chattery , but using one the past 3 seasons i feel as though i understand the noisiness, and am ok with it.. I am not into the beach modes as of yet. so this assessment is for parks fields and yards only. Im glad you have both. will keep watching you kill it with either machine!!

    Merrill, Your first 2 observations are spot on. The nox excels with tiny targets. I dug a bb at about 18" deep already! As far as observation #2 - I agree that the pinpointing is sketchy and inconsistent. I hardly use the pinpoint function but do it the old fashion way by scanning twice 90 degrees apart. One tip to help pinpoint using the machine is to hold the coil far away from the target before you hit "pinpoint" - that seems to help somewhat. I enjoy your videos and observations! Good luck & keep swingin...

    Been watching some of your older videos, and I'm hoping someone told you about the Iron bias trick or tip? If you get a jumpy or deep signal, hit the iron button (the horseshoe button) When you swing back over the same signal, if it doesn't grunt or show lower VDI numbers; then it should be a good target. This tip/trick will save you lots of time and digging; unless, you are digging everything. I love the Equinox series, I have the 800; love the multi-frequency

    I believe I mentioned this to you once before, but maybe not. If you paint your sandscoop with RustOleum Appliance Epoxy paint (spray can), your scoop hand will no longer get black from the raw aluminum. Wipe the shaft down with acetone (nail polish remover) before painting, and put on two coats. Allow to dry for 24 hours and you’re good to go. I’m not certain, but a clear coat spray my also work. I like the durability of the Epoxy.
    With pinpointing in sand, sometimes the target gets pushed out of the way. Just my experience. I own the 690 and the 800. Love them both. Happy hunting!

    Darrell from hello world knows a good bit about Nokta infibio. Maybe he can give you some tidbits about the settings. I too love what I'm seeing with people that use the Nox 600 or 800. Im just about sold on it. I live in missouri and have fresh water lakes and rivers. I hunt mostly parks but am wanting a good machine. And waterproof also

    I've also noticed discrepancies in the way my 600 pinpoints, so I did some pinpointing air tests. A few targets showed up right in the middle where they should be. BUT, more often, the targets showed up at about 4 O'clock or 10 o'clock on the edges of the coil. This isn't as bad when I have my 6" sniper coil on so I'm guessing it's some kind of anomaly with the standard coil that I have.

    Hey ringo... i knew you would end up purchusing an equinox. They seem to be the bees knees of detectors atm. Im upgrading myself to the equinox at the end of the year... i cant wait, though in the mean while my 705 does the job nicely. Good to see that you almost paid it off in the first week with the jewelry value... not scrap value.

      Swinin wit' Willy, that's what I started with, and still have as my backup, my 705. Loved it from the moment I got it. Used it 2 years daily until I found out about the Nox. Whereas the Nox loves deep dimes, that 705 LOVED quarter signals ALL the time!!!!

    Hi i am planing to buy either a anfibio or a nox i want a strong and reliable detector.I dont hunt in salt water or at the beach ,i hunt mostly relics and ancient roman coins and artifacts.The price is 850 euro for anfibio and 950 for the nox .What would you recommend .

    • @MetalDetectingNYC
      @MetalDetectingNYC  5 лет назад +1

      The truth is that you can’t go wrong with either one. My preference is the NOX. I own both. If you like the idea of total control of one frequency at a time go NOKTA....(like a stick shift) If you want to hunt multiple frequencies go with the NOX

    • @adrianchintoan5120

      @@MetalDetectingNYC Thank you for the fast answer.Wich one do you see the better build and that can stand the test of time a little better .I have read that the nox is a little bad constructed

    • @MetalDetectingNYC
      @MetalDetectingNYC  5 лет назад +1

      I dont think so at all. Im definitely preferring the NOX right now. In fairness, I havent tried it in parks yet because it has been such a great beach season. I have tried the Nokta and it alerts you to every piece of trash that there is, which is a problem in New York. The Equinox is the better detector and its not close in my book.

    Merrill, was the firmware up-to-date when you received your 600, or did you have to update it?
    My first observation was that the wired headphones that came with the 600 are not good.
    If you think pinpointing is hard with the 11" coil, try the 12x15!
    One of the first things I did after getting some wireless headphones, was to purchase a spare Minelab Equinox magnetic charging cable.
    This way you can charge in the car or use one of those portable USB chargers.
    Sometimes you have to turn up Iron Bias to 1 on the 600 to thwart iron (it is an advanced setting under recovery speed).
    As far as wireless headphones go, just buy the Soundpeats Q12 Plus earbuds off Amazon for $25. If you lose them no big deal, and they work great with the 600.
    That way you can leave that cap screwed on tight that covers the audio port. If you don't submerge the controller or put your head underwater, you will not lose the bluetooth signal.
