Hey! I love my Whites DFX but now only for keeping the shed door open whilst I load the Nexus's in the back of the car 😂 Try swinging the Nexus as fast as you can with the Silver Scout coil, the recovery speed and unmasking is mind blowing. I'd rather take it steady and concentrate on listening than wearing out my shoulder. 👍
You made me laugh with the ad for the White's machine. That was the new technology compared to the White's machine I sold and used in 1978. There was a meter on some of the high end machines but you really need to go by sound and still do. We dug everything back then and still do today. I think if I swung the coil as fast as you were showing, I would only get to hunt half as much as I do now. My arm would be worn out. Good stuff and I enjoy your videos.
It's like you are putting into words what I have been doing lately. Low and slow is dead to me in low trash areas but high trash I am forced to slow down quite a bit. Thanks for the video!
If you scrub the coil and there is a coil wire (which is the case for most detectors), it causes the wire to move and a moving wire in a magnetic field gives a signal.
Totally agree, low is still important for most machines but going super slow is no longer necessary, honesty I find sometimes swinging with decent speed picks up better than super slow. + you cover more ground. Thanks for another great watch.
Thanks for sharing Merril 2 points I would like to add to your comments regarding the Deus and my sweep speed. 1. You need to sweep faster in fresh stubble because you need the inertia to lay it over. Go to slow and the coil will jam in the stalks. You will see in my pasture videos I very often sweep much slower because the conditions allow it. 2. By using a faster sweep speed over a target you will obtain better signal information. Sometimes if you sweep to slow the iron tone will be dominant and the Non-Ferrous tone will be weak. Sweeping far above the ground like you describe will only benefit large deep targets, however not ideal if you are searching for small coins like here in the UK. We have been using this high search method with the Deus and ORX in Goldfield for years, we have made videos about this subject. Wishing you all the best Gary.
What Vanquish model do you have? I just got a 540 Pro. Been trying a Dr Otek with poor results, lots of false signals and turned out to be an Amazon return I bought on ebay.
Hi Merrill! I really enjoy watching your channel of laughter, fun and joy, not to mention the awesome finds and those priceless tips! thanks buddy!!! Greg the Egg.
Thanks for the informative video. I was just out hunting and had some signals disappear on me .. yes I was playing with the recovery speed.. definitely understand what is going on now. Thanks again
All my detectors have told me exactly whats under the ground for fourty years now, metal! And they have all been correct!!!! haha Good video, I enjoy all of them.
On the first part of your video where they say the whites metal detector will tell you everything that’s in the ground and you reply no they don’t. I’ve been using a white XLT, and then a DFX for 20 years if you know that machine and have ratchet pinpointing turned off Using mix mode While using all the tones, I can tell you 80% of the time what that target is going to be exactly. I have a manticore which I’m new to and it is more powerful than a DFX for sure the thing is the white Coin finding super machine. It’s not for the beach but if you want relics and coins 6.59 kHz band Will be right up there, cwith the best of the best for finding silver. Now I do agree that it is outdated but for someone new to Metal Detecting, a white XLT or even a DFX for close to $100 there is no better option out there. I love your videos MERRELL, but you got to acknowledge that white was significantly ahead of its time and is still useful to this day. Not trying to argue with you. Just wanted to throw my two cents in. I love your videos keep it up buddy.
I can barely afford gasoline to work in NYC now but took your advice on the Simplex. Huge upgrade from my 250 that found great back to 1600s. Goddam , I love American history
Loved the video, Merrill. I generally use the threshold, if it has one, to hear the ground minerals and adjust my swing speed and recovery/reactivity accordingly. Once I have a smooth threshold I have a good swing speed for that ground, then I know what to set recovery speed/reactivity at.
Oh Boy,. You mean to tell me I been swinging wrong this whole time I been detecting.. great.. Thanks for sharing Man.. I guess I will have to see what swing speed works the best and work on a good swing .. Peace Brother..
Great video ! I have An XP ORX detector I've been using for about two years now !! I can't begin to tell you how happy I am with this detector !! Not to mention I also use the MI-6 Pinpointer ! I haven't bought batteries in years ! When will the other brands figure this out !!! It's the best for land and shallow water ! I live in Florida and hunt beaches all the time ! You just have to know the settings ! It's not great for deeper water but for land fields and parks !! I am very pleased with this detector !! Thanks for a great video you've earned my subscription! Kevin in France and Florida
Good video Merrill, a subject most won’t touch. It is easier to just detect at my speed instead of being worried about swinging too fast. I find my Manticore works great at most speeds and I don’t worry much about it anymore.
The slower swing speed is a bit more sustainable on a long hunt vs turbo mode, there is also the arcing thing on the end of each swing which could lead to missing signals. Faster recovery speed is definitely a huge improvement. What was your manticore recovery speed during that test?
The one thing you didn’t address in your low and slow dissertation is depth. Transmit depth decreases exponentially given a constant transmit power. Your target response separation might be great at relatively shallow depth, but if you are holding your coil high off the ground, you won’t hear those deep targets at marginal depths despite the great recovery speed. Low and slow ( relatively) is still a good detecting practice with today’s technologies. If you are still using some of the older Minelab detectors, you will be shocked at the stuff you missed because you swung the machine too fast. The Sovereign for example will find targets with a crawl swing speed that you missed using what you call a low and slow swing. The test of a good detectorist is going back to places you’ve been before with your older detectors and only finding a few good deep targets. You never get them all, but you sure as heck can get a lot of them with good detecting habits. I go back to old sites and still find goodies, but if I don’t find anything with a newer machine, that means I was thorough when I was there previously. Either way, I gain confidence in my detecting prowess. And as a bonus, I am forced to find new sites and that always excites me.
Hey, Merrill! 🙋🏻♀️ I'm a brand new subscriber and just wanted to say thanks so much for this informative video. My husband and I are new to the craft 😊 and haven't been able to purchase our equipment yet 😞 but we appreciate these great tips and can't wait to get out there and apply all of this helpful content. @marypruitt444 AND since you haven't purchased a new Detector yet, have you checked out the X-Terra Pro yet and it's not that expensive detector that you both can get for about $ 500 and single cost is $269. And I have the X-Terra Pro and I Use to have the Simplex + and it love's EMI and dysfunctional when it's close and about everything that Notka Macro Makes is a running Hot type Or style of Detectors that I have stopped going to some Parks and Permissions that have the high EMI that the Simplex couldn't handle and so far Anything Minelab is Going Great for the high EMI area's that I couldn't get to detect with the SIMPLEX (Notka Macro) and the Garrett's Detector's and Teknetics Detectors but so far Minelab Detector's know what they are doing and I love the X-Terra Pro ❤️........ and I think you will too once you have it in your hands and do make sure to Go to a Detector store and try them out and just don't listen to the crowd and try them out before you spend any money on Something that you may have to go back and Return it and some people are trying to say that the X-Terra Pro is a joke detector but I know it's not and I also know that you can't run any kind of detector on full sensitivity without any kind of ground Feedback Jumpy VDI and I have my X-Terra Pro set at 12 Sensitivity and no ground Feedback unless I get a Junk Target And the X-Terra Pro let's Me know you don't want to Dig it up and then the Simplex + said that they were great quarter Tone's Targets and it was a junk iron signal target after I spent the time to Dig it up and see what the target is and that's why I'm recommending the Minelab X-TERRA Pro with the extra frequencies of 5-8-10-15 and that the Notka Macro Product's that is only using 1 frequency of 15 MHz and it's cheaper than the Simplex Ultra lineups and the Simplex Tone's Squawk like a Duck that is Sick 🤢..... And do try any detector out before you buy it and some places have a great test garden that will help out with the decision what to get but I'm recommending the X-Terra Pro over anything Notka Macro makes....... and the X-Terra Pro has some additional features that are in the advanced settings and I have been using the All Metal Mode and the X-Terra Pro is a 1 Button Push to get to it And All Tone's if I have it on that setting and the X-Terra Pro has a tone of 1-2-5-all tones and Depth Tone And the Simplex is a 5 button push just to get to it and A single tone for the all metal mode And I would still have to dig it out to see what it is and I have to stop swinging the Coil and push the Buttons just to get to it And the X-Terra Pro is one button push and so much User Friendly Detector and it's like having a Top End Detector for the cheapest price....
OMG, I remember that commercial. It was on during daytime soap operas my grandmother used to watch. I remember the guy in the commercial commented about how much weight he lost while metal detecting. So funny.
Well said Merrill. I think those of us with newer faster response detectors have slowly adapted to moving quicker and not scrubbing is because we can without performance loss. The few times low and slow is useful is if you are gridding an area for a lost item or if you’re in a really trashy area that you have to pick out the chirps of the higher, valuable targets.
If you can only choose 2 Metal Detectors to keep out of yyour collection, which one would you choose 1st and which one 2nd please so that I can go and finally make up my mind lol. I have had a look at your website but was still abit skeptic as in the description of the 1st ranked did you mention deus xp 2 so in still abit unsure. Thanks for your help and keep up the great work.
Casper Metal Detecting here - Low and slow to me is the way to go in older areas and spots you hit often and has stuff down deep I hit many spots that has old gold and old silver over a foot down - most of these spots are hammered for their fresh drops most of the guys i run into at these spots fly and try to hit a football size area in a 1/2 hr. At the end of a hunt i will talk to a few and they have a pouch full of fresh drops but i will get the fresh drops along with some older relics and coins and now and then a piece of old gold Its depends on what you want to go for sometimes - There are times these guys will go for the new drops and if spot is pounded by a handful of hunters - they may clean out the new stuff and they will leave - i can slow down and still pull some goodies down deep that they passed up - when im on vacation and time is limited - rules change
Good video, though I always thought the "don't scrape the ground" was heavily implied in the "low" part. The "slow" part also is still relevant in my opinion. Everyone does the separation test with good targets (coins) and close to the coil (ironically "low"). To be more accurate it would be junk like iron, with targets at varying depths. Going slow over that situation would give you the best shot at picking out a target.
The Minlelab Sovereign II is still my favourite detector I've ever used. I found so many coins and rings going over other people's ground it was amazing....and deeeep. I just ran it wide open, and it was like a symphony of flutes going off, constantly, but once you knew what you were listening to, it was absolutely deadly.
Very well said. XP Deus ll is a fast machine. In most cases you can swing it fast no matter the reactivity/recovery setting. The ground conditions however may require you to adjust. Love my Deus ll. Balance is the key. ❤️
This is interesting to see how by a speed check once you find a target trying different speeds will tell you the right speed to use for each area you Hunt that's why one person can go at one speed and not find anything another Will use the right speed and find everything the same with height spend one half of a day of hunting to determine this and your good from there
That White’s commercial is a joke, and it seems so retro but I have experienced this from switching metal detectors from an atpro to the minelab with the Garrett I had to swing slower because of the recovery speed but with a minelab I can swing a little faster but I really like watching your videos. I enjoy them very informative.
Thanks for a great tip in this video Merrill that I had never heard about and have never noticed about swinging fast in a low recovery speed. But buddy I have to say if Whites was still around they would put them all to shame.I still swing my V3I and my XLT along with my NOX 800 and my new Manticore.Keep up the good work Merrill and thanks again .
That's great thnx M, and lots to think about... I'm very lucky (as an XP user), in that my swing speed is *Always* Slow... I'm just a Slow kinda guy!! 😂 So I guess that means I may aswell drop the reactivity and hope to punch a bit deeper hey? Fyi: On my Deus 2, I currently run at 1.5 / 1 and then ramp up the Sensitivity 'til it's just starting to get noisy... Does sound sound like a plan to you, (swinging at slow speeds?...) Thanks again buddy for the great, entertaining content!!... Bobby (U.K.) 🙏 💪
@@MetalDetectingNYC I'm right snack in the middle with a smooth medium speed sweep. Not too little or too much juice, keeps me in touch with the detector language and the grounds voices. 👍
When I have detected low and slow on certain grounds with the D2 I was able to pick up targets difficult for detectorist to find on beach for example with low reactivity. I have found good targets swinging high about maybe 4in in stable to cherry pick in that environment.
Well this is not only the 1st video of yours I have watched but it was so informative that I just had to subscribe to your channel. Now I see you have another video I have to watch next. It's about what detector to buy for 2023. That's my kind of detector if it finds beach babes laying in the sand. I'll take two of them.
Yea I agree about the CTX bud I'm sure this may be minelabs next upgrade something like a ctx but faster and deeper perhaps with other great upgrades too I hope lol
Funny - I often observed, that swinging faster gave a clearer signal + ID on very deep signals close to detection-edge. Swinging slow definitely helps on loaded sites / patches, but swining fast does seem to gain a little depth 🤷🏻♂️
I think low and slow means a more thorough swing... basically telling a detectorist to keep to a proper swing and make sure you cover as much area as possible!!
I hear you Shane! But how do you explain Gary from skill school? I’m not saying to swing high and quick, I’m showing that detectors are more capable in separating targets than a generation ago.
@@MetalDetectingNYC wasnt disagreeing. your personal skill level with discerning sounds and quirks while swinging can definitely increase or decrease the your speed . i too think the machines are geared to go as fast as you want . but technique based on ones personAL skill level is the answer to the equation IMO. add concentration and desire to find treasure and look out!!! you are doing a awesome job of making us think btw!! thank you for that!
I match swing speed to recovery/reactivity. There is a perfect speed for all settings and on modern machines like the D2 it is not slow! Also on difficult ground keeping the coil higher removes the ground mineralisation from being too close to the coil. And it will improve depth in a lot of cases.
In the early days of the Bounty Hunter machines the depth would increase the faster you swung the coil. Some times ground noise comes from a coil that has a bad or poorly constructed Faraday shield.
I wish I understood more of what you are talking about. The lingo sounds foreign to me, unfortunately. Discrimination, ground balancing, sensitivity, etc. Im a newbie with a Vanquish 340. Do you you any videos for absolute beginners that explaing the lingo, the ins and outs? I like your videos best of all. Its obvious you're a teacher because you speak slowly and concisely. Thank you!
Good video .i have noticed before when i swing my simplex fast that i get targets easier than when i go slow .but not realy saw it as clear as now with your video .had a man told me few years ago that i swing way to fast but it works and obviously save time and get more targets 😎
Detectors have gotten alot better. The only "modern" digital ones I have are the makro racer 2, nokta fors relic, and now the legend. Even the relic and racer are pretty fast. The legend is nuts. Closest ive seen to my analog detectors But I will say, I never had to go slow with all my tesoros lol. One of the benefits of analog. The new machines are just now getting the recovery speed that even my compadre has had for decades.
I find the best speed for the MAnticore is 4 then adjust your actual swing speed to where you can't hear each targets tone. So when it's trashy go slower when it's pretty clean you can swing faster
Hello Merrill New to your channel. Been detecting about 30 years, mainly for nuggets but got into coins the last 6 years or so. MXT, AT, Nox800 & now Deus2. The Deus2 is absolutely amazing! I have to agree & disagree on the swing speed, im thinking the trashyness of an area plays in. We hut the trashy of trashy! mining camps, RR camps, ghost towns, I've found coins & tokens in some of the old dumps where your swinging over 100s of targets in every pass! I will slow down & actually wobble the coil side to side over the piles, only then am i able to pluck the good tones. In places like Gary hunts fast is probably prime. On the other hand lifting the coil a little can clean up a good tone that may be polluted by crap close to the coil. Anyway, just my two cents, speaking of, i just poped my first two Large Cents here in the desert of So. Cal. Another win for the Deus2!!
Sir Merrell another great video awesome information to all detectors out there new and seasoned, i myself am a guy with alot of detectors,,i only hunt on the beach, and in the water, i borrowed my friends XP Dues, and Mantacore , yesterday, and found a few coins, but in a few minutes i went back to my Excalibur 2,and we had a contest, Excalibur 2, got 4 rings,1 silver bracelet, Mantacore,1 little copper earing?is newer faster better?,or is the proven standard machine like the Excaliber2 still the go to detector for the water?, i believe the Excalibur 2 is the front runner!,
Like my minelab sovereigns . Old and kind of slow, but I am finding more coins and jewelry. Cause of its depth and great discimmiton. Plus it's unique tones. Great machine. don't know why they kept it for diving
Your right. You must match your swing with the speed your older detector requires. With adjustable recovery speed you can swing at faster speeds depending on how you set up the detector.
I've had an Eagle Spectrum since they first came out and I NEVER dig junk with it, even on a wide open disciminate. The trick is set your display "DECAY" to above half of max, then when you hit a target, pinpoint it to get the EXACT spot, now return to DISC mode and sweep rapidly without the sides of the coil coming over the target, whilst moving 360 degrees aroud the target, now look at the SIGNAGRAPH. More positive bars than negative? DIG. More negative bars than positive, walk on. For a second confirmation, flick the switch forwards into all metal, and lift the search head until the signal is faint, now without dropping the head down, sweep over it a few times in all discriminate. "Wide" signals are junk, narrow ones are 90%+ probably a good target.

It's like you are putting into words what I have been doing lately. Low and slow is dead to me in low trash areas but high trash I am forced to slow down quite a bit. Thanks for the video!
Yes!
If you scrub the coil and there is a coil wire (which is the case for most detectors), it causes the wire to move and a moving wire in a magnetic field gives a signal.
EXCITED TO SEE MORE VIDEOS WITH NEXUS AND YOUR HONEST FEEDBACK. THANK YOU FOR THE GREAT JOB AGAIN
Totally agree, low is still important for most machines but going super slow is no longer necessary, honesty I find sometimes swinging with decent speed picks up better than super slow. + you cover more ground. Thanks for another great watch.
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing Merril
2 points I would like to add to your comments regarding the Deus and my sweep speed.
I use the ace apex in parks. Grass height and quick is the way to go for me.
I hunt all metal, all the time. I swing pretty fast but low with my Vanquish and it's recovery speed is amazing on even mini junk!! Cheers Mer!
And they have all been correct!!!! haha
Good video, I enjoy all of them.
Great stuff!!! I enjoyed your video Merrill.Good luck to you and i hope you have a great week.
Thanks for another entertaining and informative vid from fellow RUclipsr metal detectorists in Buffalo, NY. We love your channel!
Awesome! Thank you!
Great topic, Merrill, what about a video on running the reactivity or recovery speed too high?
Sounds like a great topic
1.6 K Oh man you're doing great Merrill. Keep up the work and I will keep watching out for metal detecting NYC.
Harry as you know it has been a LONG TERM EFFORT! Im happy to finally be able to see this grow! Thank you for the support!
In my experience using my Manticore, it seems best to swing low and slow. I get better separation and depth.
Thanks Merrill!!
Good video Merrill, a subject most won’t touch. It is easier to just detect at my speed instead of being worried about swinging too fast. I find my Manticore works great at most speeds and I don’t worry much about it anymore.
Right on
The slower swing speed is a bit more sustainable on a long hunt vs turbo mode, there is also the arcing thing on the end of each swing which could lead to missing signals.
So excited about our first find! 😎🎧📿💍🔑📱🥄
You are so welcome!
Question:when did you start metal detecting and what was your first metal detector?
OMG, I remember that commercial. It was on during daytime soap operas my grandmother used to watch. I remember the guy in the commercial commented about how much weight he lost while metal detecting. So funny.
I found an 1884 dime at my old Elementary school! Thank you for the inspiration!
Yes!
Detecting wisdom aside your charisma is always a charm to listen to after work
If you can only choose 2 Metal Detectors to keep out of yyour collection, which one would you choose 1st and which one 2nd please so that I can go and finally make up my mind lol. I have had a look at your website but was still abit skeptic as in the description of the 1st ranked did you mention deus xp 2 so in still abit unsure. Thanks for your help and keep up the great work.
Deus 2 and Manticore
Thank you! Your video made me aware of this new technology, and I have renewed my interest and just bought a new Deus II. More fun for my retirement!
You are going to love it
Casper Metal Detecting here - Low and slow to me is the way to go in older areas and spots you hit often and has stuff down deep
I hit many spots that has old gold and old silver over a foot down - most of these spots are hammered for their fresh drops
most of the guys i run into at these spots fly and try to hit a football size area in a 1/2 hr. At the end of a hunt i will talk to a few and they have a pouch full of fresh drops but i will get the fresh drops along with some older relics and coins and now and then a piece of old gold
Its depends on what you want to go for sometimes - There are times these guys will go for the new drops and if spot is pounded by a handful of hunters - they may clean out the new stuff and they will leave - i can slow down and still pull some goodies down deep that they passed up - when im on vacation and time is limited - rules change
I was going through a box and found and still have that Whites Catalog and my XLT still works great
Very well said. XP Deus ll is a fast machine. In most cases you can swing it fast no matter the reactivity/recovery setting. The ground conditions however may require you to adjust. Love my Deus ll. Balance is the key. ❤️
3.17 was the clangers (look em up) made me smile ,,,, great vid.
Thank you!
I have two Whites Detectors and I love them
Thanks for a great tip in this video Merrill that I had never heard about and have never noticed about swinging fast in a low recovery speed.
@ClickOnProfile995 A new Nexus I hope M?...
Great tutorial. I can't imagine anyone swinging that fast & vigorously as a standard sweep, as they would get tired quickly & call it a day. Lol 😁
Glad you enjoyed it!
Rockin all things again ! N.t. nor cal the gold country.
Merrill I love the flower pots filled with the bottle caps and such!!!
Thank you so much
Will stick with a swing somewhere in between with my nox 800. Manticore is the target machine that I'm working towards.
Yea I agree about the CTX bud I'm sure this may be minelabs next upgrade something like a ctx but faster and deeper perhaps with other great upgrades too I hope lol
good stuff man ! watched until the end !
Funny - I often observed, that swinging faster gave a clearer signal + ID on very deep signals close to detection-edge. Swinging slow definitely helps on loaded sites / patches, but swining fast does seem to gain a little depth 🤷🏻♂️
I agree, I hunt in all -metal mode all the time. Good info
Side note, I have bad shoulders and should still swing slower but man the way he's swinging is crazy 😂
Yes!
YO, another lesson from the professor.
OK, so whatever brand/model of detector you have, the point is to know the performances of your MD and swing accordingly. I agree !
In the early days of the Bounty Hunter machines the depth would increase the faster you swung the coil. Some times ground noise comes from a coil that has a bad or poorly constructed Faraday shield.
3:20 Make a music with a lot of metal aligned! Sounds cool
watching your videos already starts a fire in my soul for metal detecting
I wish I understood more of what you are talking about. The lingo sounds foreign to me, unfortunately. Discrimination, ground balancing, sensitivity, etc. Im a newbie with a Vanquish 340. Do you you any videos for absolute beginners that explaing the lingo, the ins and outs? I like your videos best of all. Its obvious you're a teacher because you speak slowly and concisely. Thank you!
would love to see you use the Nox 900 more Merrill
Good video .i have noticed before when i swing my simplex fast that i get targets easier than when i go slow .but not realy saw it as clear as now with your video .had a man told me few years ago that i swing way to fast but it works and obviously save time and get more targets 😎
Detectors have gotten alot better.
The only "modern" digital ones I have are the makro racer 2, nokta fors relic, and now the legend. Even the relic and racer are pretty fast. The legend is nuts. Closest ive seen to my analog detectors
But I will say, I never had to go slow with all my tesoros lol. One of the benefits of analog. The new machines are just now getting the recovery speed that even my compadre has had for decades.
Iron...can be a dropped Colt 1960 Army pistol. You hafta dig everything at an old site. Like they do at Custer's Last Stand battlefield
"fear of starting a brush fire" LOL
I find the best speed for the MAnticore is 4 then adjust your actual swing speed to where you can't hear each targets tone. So when it's trashy go slower when it's pretty clean you can swing faster
Hello Merrill
New to your channel.
Sir Merrell another great video awesome information to all detectors out there new and seasoned, i myself am a guy with alot of detectors,,i only hunt on the beach, and in the water, i borrowed my friends XP Dues, and Mantacore , yesterday, and found a few coins, but in a few minutes i went back to my Excalibur 2,and we had a contest, Excalibur 2, got 4 rings,1 silver bracelet, Mantacore,1 little copper earing?is newer faster better?,or is the proven standard machine like the Excaliber2 still the go to detector for the water?, i believe the Excalibur 2 is the front runner!,
Thank You, A new consideration ...
I agree! Low and slow is the way to go.
It’s all good info thanks. But the first part of this video…priceless!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice new subject and something to try out.
Thanks for all the info❤
Like my minelab sovereigns . Old and kind of slow, but I am finding more coins and jewelry. Cause of its depth and great discimmiton. Plus it's unique tones. Great machine. don't know why they kept it for diving
Your right. You must match your swing with the speed your older detector requires. With adjustable recovery speed you can swing at faster speeds depending on how you set up the detector.
Own 3 Minelabs and love them. Never heard of a Nexus??
Lol 😂 I loved the Jimmy with the TDI. DAYS.
When your hunting in a iron infested roman field and looking for small roman artifacts I will stick with low and slow ,even with the 800
