Dear Grant and Laura, It has been a pleasure to watch as you go about your business of managing your farms. Clearly you have had ups and downs as most people do in their lives. That said, to see the emotion that came to surface as Grant spoke about his grandpa, and emotion from Laura once harvest was over made me feel emotional, and glad for you that the season came to it's fruitful end. I'm guessing you now have time to wrap each other in hugs, as you process what you have been through together, and individually. I know I am merely a stranger on the other end of your feed, but from my perspective you have been richly rewarded by having the love of family, and work that seems to suit you well. God's blessings to you and your families.
Congrats on a finished harvest 2022 ❤️. Laura don’t forget us, we are craving more Laura farms during the down field time. Grant, did you feel the bro hug I just gave you? Hey Grant.... So sorry to hear about your loss.. My Grandpa passed in 1985.. I miss him like crazy even today. That never goes away. The skill and innovation that generation brought to the table is amazing. They lead the charge. You said he wasn't really part of the farm in the last years, but I'll encourage you to think about that differently. He passed his love for the land and the job on to your Dad, and then on to you. Even though he's not in the buddy seat every day, he's in your heart, now and forever. I'm sure if you could see his face now, he'd be smiling and proud. Hang in there. Keep doing it for him!! Maybe someday, you'll get to pass your way of life onto another generation and keep the story and your Grandpa's spirit going. He's just on to the next phase.
My exact thoughts as Grant was telling his story. I wanted to finish the video and check to see if anyone else thought the same way and commented on it. Boulderboy 2021, you took the words right out of my mouth.

Grant I’m sorry for your loss brother. I was 19 when I lost my grandfather who I was very close to. Grew up riding on the fender of his JD 2510. It takes a man to admit that you are standing on the shoulders of a giant. All we can do is be thankful for the time together and the values they instilled in us. I’m confident he is very proud of you.
Grant, and Laura so very sorry to hear about Grandpa....he sounds like a wonderful man who's values have been passed throughout the family and I'm sure you'll pass them to your childrean as well. Your definition of a combine is spot on. It replaces the binder (header) that cut and tied up wheat plant in shefts for storing in the old times. Then during the quite parts of the year a threshing machine would come to the farm and separate the wheat from the straw (the back main part of the combine).
Congratulations Laura and Grant on finishing harvest and may the bounty of your farms be a
testament to the hard work of Don Wilson may God forever keep him in his warm basking Glow!!!!!!!
We lift up our hearts in gratitude to the Sun, which, together with rain, wind and earth, worked in harmony to produce this bountiful harvest. We are grateful to all those who labored in - together with - the earth so that this harvest time might come to fullness. Lord, as Your Son, Jesus, knew: harvest is hard work!
Thank you so much DON WILSON!!!!
Watching you’re channel among others makes me more and more thankful for hardworking, dedicated Americans that provide an easier life for me on a daily basis. Thanks for all you (and others) do!

I help the neighbor with field work. I have ran the combine a few times, and it's NOT just sitting in the cab all day, for sure!
When harvest is done, a LOT of work follows around here. Fall tillage, so Nitrogen can be knifed in. Cleaning up and storing equipment for the year is a 2 man week long job also.
My good neighbor, also gave up the farrow to finish hog operation this year after 20 some years, and has turned to buying feeder pigs, so his son, the full time hired hand, has a bunch of grinding to do to catch up with the empty feeders.
For them, there is not much time to unwind, just spring and fall are a lot busier than the rest of the year.
It's great to see a few younger people WANT and Work for the farming life. It's a lot of work, and fewer are doing it each generation, and still feeding the world.
Keep up the good work and a BIG Thanks!
Keeping You and You’re Family in My Prayers Grant! I enjoy following along with you and Laura Farms! GOD BLESS YOU GUYS! ❤❤❤❤! We appreciate your sacrifices! GOD BLESS YOU GUYS, Love You ❤️🥰❤️🥰❤️🥰🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Grant, so very sorry to hear about the passing of your Grandpa. The story about how he made a 12 row corn head from others is amazing. Be sure and keep those stories alive. Combine: The name combine derives from combining three separate harvesting processes. Reaping, threshing, winnowing - combining all three operations into one led to the invention of the combine harvester, simply known as the combine.
Condolences Grant and family. Prayers. God bless

Another excellent video Laura! You have taught us all so much this year! You have been such a beautiful joy to watch and we can feel your emotions in all you do! To us you are very special, kinda like an adopted daughter or granddaughter! We are all very thankful that you had both a safe & bountiful harvest! We are very saddened to learn from Grant that he lost his Grandpa. I’m sure he is resting peacefully in a much better place. Grant’s emotional telling the story about his Grandpa inventing a 12 row cornhead was both very interesting and a bit of a personal glimpse into what “family farming” is all about. God bless you all!

Losing someone so important is always rough. My prayers are with you Grant! I can't help but feel like your grandfather's abilities, taught to you, will shine as you move into this part of your life without him. It'll suck at times, but I imagine you have so many memories with him. Remember that you'll be reunited with him (and all your passed loved ones) one day - for nothing is impossible to God!
Grant, Very sorry to hear about your grandpa passing away. My thoughts and prayers go to you and your family.
I absolutely love these kids. Amazing! Grant and Laura are what we need! These kids are raising the bar for the others. They can work circles around most adults and today’s generation! GOD bless you and your family!
What refreshing and amazing people Laura and Grant are. They are both so completely genuine too. I'm sure their parents and families are very proud of them.
Oh WOW Grant I'm so sorry to hear the loss of your Grandpa. You have my deepest condolences. As long as you keep him in your heart and mind he will live forever. My heart, thoughts and prayers go out to you, Laura, your family and friends. You have Laura with a heart of gold that loves you dearly and will always support you. On a brighter note I hope harvest is going great for you all. I live in Omaha Nebraska but I'm working on my uncle's 2000 acre farm just north of Council Bluffs Iowa. We have 200 head of Black Angus cattle. Keep your head up buddy and you and Laura stay safe and healthy. R.I.P. Don Wilson ❤️🙏
Bless you Laura. Thanks so much for bringing us along for another year. Dry those tears go hug Grant, and be proud of who you are and what you have accomplished. Take care.
Combine - the full name is Combine Harvester. And as Laura explains it combines the processes of cutting, stripping and shelling in one machine.

Grant, please accept my condolences on your loss.
Glad to see y’all finish harvest. Always a big deal no matter if you farm small like my family did or big.
Glad to see Laura sporting that NASA hat. I worked for NASA for 34 plus years, mainly on the International Space Station and Space Shuttle programs. I still bleed NASA blue. And, yes I was a rocket scientist for the last 18 years of my time there.
That was wonderful, following along from planting through harvest. Really learned a lot about what goes on to get the abundance of food to our tables. Thanks, farmers, for the work you do. Condolences on your loss. As long as Grant keeps farming, he's right there on the land with you.
You all are good people, thank you for reminding me that I have feelings too, sorry for your loss and thank you for all that you do and post, I really enjoy this channel and look forward to the next one. Keep them coming!
Glad the harvest went well. Grant, your grandpa sounded like he was a great guy and I’m sure he is proud of you!
My condolences are with you and your family. You guys are very hard working and a good inspiration..
I feel you Grant. I lost my Grandpa in mid July this year. He fought dementia for 2 years. I miss him, but I’m glad he’s not dealing with it anymore. God bless you and Laura!
Laura, if you think the windows are dirty, just wait until your get to the cabin and engine air filters! Sorry for your loss, Grant. It is great to see that the passing of the older generations does to mean the end of the farm.
Prayers for you and your family, Grant. Even when it’s expected, it’s never easy. He left an amazing legacy which lives on in you and, one day, your children.
I pray you find peace in his memory.
Good news and bad news this is the world, I'm sorry for the loss Grant
Grant...so sorry to hear about your grandfather passing away. Our prayers are with you!
You are correct about the meaning of "combine". Many years ago these would have been separate operations. Things that took several steps are done with one machine now, the combine. So sorry for your loss of your grandpa. Good that he knew the Lord.
It's a rare, special person who will put her deeply felt emotions out in the public sphere. Even rarer, a couple who does so.
I feel your pain and gratitude. Praying for you both.
Sorry for your loss Grant. My grandfather was a farmer, although on a much smaller scale, and my best childhood memories are of spending my summers farming with him in Northern Ontario Canada. My condolences.
Grant, he has no pain now and a fully working body…I think I know why you are having a great harvest. You had and have a angel watching over you. prayers
Spot on with the 'Combine' harvester name. It's a cutter, thrasher and winnowing machine all rolled into 1. As a young kid in the UK I recall the thrashing machine used to come round and process the stooks at my Grandads place driven by a big flat belt.
Thank you Laura and grant for all your hard work. Laura make sure you give Grant a big hug from your northern Wisconsin family. Grants grandpa sounded like a very innovative person. Grandpa will always be watching over you grant

Grant I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your grandpa. It is hard losing someone so close. Also congratulations to you and Laura on another successful harvest. I started watching the videos in 2021 and haven’t stopped since. I am looking forward to 2023.
Grant I am so sorry to hear about grandpa! If I lived near you, I would surely give you a hug. Laura, you are a real sweetheart and the two of you make a great couple. See you next time.
This is for Grant. You are such a great man. I never had the opportunity to meet either grandfather. But my parents were absolutely fabulous. Your Grandfather was and is extremely proud of the man you are. He taught the lessons and you absorbed them all. You are a testament to his life. Take the time to charish his memory. Lean on Laura, she is much stronger than you know. Give her a hug and a kiss.
No doubt that your Grandfather was/is very proud of you Grant. Just in the same way that most of us average Americans are of you both and your families. I watch your videos with much pride and thankfulness for what you do and flying the beautiful flag of ours. As a retired service member, I salute you all.
Grant...
My condolences to you and your family.
My Grandpa died in 1982, I was a senior in high school and I thought that the world had come to an end. It's amazing how the family dynamic seems to revolve around one individual and it did with my Grandpa. Of course we all continued on and my Grandma lived another 20 years before she passed. (Another dynamic change.)
I shared this with you so you'd understand when I say, "I feel your pain!!!" Everyone who has ever been close a grandparent knows your pain. And we also know your joy, the joy of experiencing a Grandparent's Love.
So cherish those memories, my friend, and let your life honor the legacy he left in you. Hopefully, you'll have the opportunity to pass that legacy on and make beautiful memories with your future grandchildren!!!
Respectfully...
John

At 4:33 into your video you asked, "why is this machine called a combine?". In ancient times, farmers harvested grass seed and all other grain (other than corn) in two steps. First, the plant was cut and gathered to a central location and then "threshed".
A scythe was the first tool used to cut the stem of the plant. Originally it had a short handle, so the user had to bend over. Think of pictures in the bible of field workers harvesting grain. Later, scythes had longer handles, so the job had less stoop labor.
The horse drawn reaper was invented the in 1831. This removed the need to scythe the crop manually. Shortly after that the machine was improved, to also "bind" bundles of the now cut plant for transport to where it would be threshed. This new machine was called a reaper/binder.
The cut wheat etc was usually taken to barn where the second part of the process occurred. Grain was removed from the stem and separated from the chaff by striking the cut stem on a threshing board. See this Wikipedia article: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Threshing_machine#:~:text=The%20first%20threshing%20machine%20was,of%20the%20mechanization%20of%20agriculture.
With the advent of a mobile power source there were two machines, first the reaper/binder and the stationary thresher.
The machine you are driving combined those two functions and so was called a combine.
