    Laura, you must be one of the best drivers there are. When you were reversing that machine out of the shop, you didn't have much of a clearance, you look so small and a long way up in the cab. That container could be used for a repair shop. Getting your farm more organized, although it looks a tidy place already.

    That's one thing about farming no matter how cold it is there is all was something to do and new projects to take care of I like watching all your videos you guys rock no matter the weather you're out there you're very good at operating all the equipment and you ain't afraid to put in the long hours and hard work you're right there God bless the farmers and all the long hours and work they put in

    Park something heavy inside each end of the calving shed & tie the top to it with a heavy duty ratchet strap, or anything else that you can cinch down tight. That fuel tank would do one end if it has much in it.

      I don't know, I thought the day I bought my boat was kinda sad, because I threw out a lot of oney. Since then, I've had some AMAZING days. Now, I haven't got rid of my boat yet, so I don't know how that will feel!

    Great off season project... I would like to suggest getting a consult on the size of the concrete pillars. The wind coefficient compared to those 8" post holes will result in that shed leaving with the concrete anchors

      That's nothing, I used to have to get up every two hours in Korea, go down to the motor pool, start all our platoon vehicles and run them to prevent the blocks from freezing. That's what the Army calls cold starts.

    In Vermont we frequently pour concrete down to 10 degrees using accelerators and heated water. Then cover finished concrete slabs with poly and a layer of concrete insulating blankets.

    When I cemented in the oilfield one of the tricks for clean up was to just let the cement freeze on the truck and when you got back to shop it would just come off super clean. Since we were cementing oil and gas wells it the actual cement job was bellow the surface point of freezing.

    Coldest time to work with cement is constant 40* with burlap to cover after spraying treatment. 👌😉👍

    It does my heart good to see 2 young people who actually love farming as y'all do, and added to that a young married couple who obviously love each other and enjoy working and playing together so much and so well!! I only wish I could've found myself a better woman for my first wife. I grew up on a farm, but unfortunately in the mid 80's my family lost our farm. I'm retired now, but still live in the country and get to help 2 different farmers with their farming operations. Farming is still in my blood! ☺

    Yes, if you put Calcium Carbonate (High Early) in it and have plenty of help to pour and finish it. And then cover it with plastic and insulating blankets to keep it from freezing while it cures. But I emphasize, have plenty of help because it will be hot coming out of the truck.

      Calcium is not the same as high early. And most city inspectors won't let you pour if it's below 38 degrees, they just raised it to 42 in my city. 42 and rising, not steady. We have codes for a reason. Blankets only do so much.
      If your concrete surface is freezing then it's too cold.

      High Early means there is a low water to cement ratio with PSI over 3,000.
      Calcium is completely separate.

    Laura, if you can get some auger style stake and some steel cable you could secure the shed to the ground. This will hold until next year when the ground thaws. Then you can pour the support piers. Good luck!

    I might have been alone when you tossed that initial bag of concrete, as in “OH MY GOD, NO!”, only to watch Laura watch from an instant lesson in many of life’s adventures, and add that (tossing of a bag of concrete) to the lessons of what not to do in order to achieve success. My hope is there was only a little which broke free from the bag. Hope the mess was not too much, as your follow-up guidance was worth a good chuckle. 😂

    One important item for drilling holes when things are frozen / A steerskid jack hammer for when things are frozen or a huge rock 2. A sawall to cut tree roots! Good luck!

    It’s smart to wait until it’s warmer. After testing and inspecting concrete for several years, concrete freezing when first poured is a bad jam. It’ll likely never reach strength and will be permanently compromised.
