I’m a 73 year old farm kid and retired CPA. I’ve helped many small business owners. Thank you for this video. Thank you for your love of farming. Thank you for taking on something very few will do. Hearing the cost of your farm operation will frighten most people to death. Your courage is what makes America great. I’m sure some people watch your videos thinking how easy she has it. “She’s just a farmer”. Ask them if they want to borrow $1,000,000, pray for good weather, pray to stay healthy, work 4,000+ hours a year in the hope of having enough profit to do it all over again next year. Don’t ever apologize for letting the stress out. If someone criticizes you for it simple tell them to go to hell. God Bless!

I lived 40 years as a seed corn farmwife and understand your emotions and pride. Congrats on the acreage purchase. You are doing a great job with this channel. Continue in your faithfulness and God will guide.
Most people have No idea what pressure comes with running a successful small business. Most get nervous when they take out a 35K loan for a car or truck. Try risking it all every year like you guys and many other farmers do. It isn't for the faint of heart. Both you and Grant make me proud of our younger generation who often get a bad rap. There are good and bad in every generation and you two are some of the best. Keep it up and never ever apologize for letting your emotions come out. It shows how much this all means to you both farming and YouTubing.
You're right about small businesses. My parents started one back in the 80's and it was hit-or-miss for probably the first six years. Eventually they were able to expand and grow, but there were some tough times to get there. I remember one Christmas where they were so broke we literally got nothing except what the grandparents bought that year. The kids understood the seriousness of it, and if nothing else it brought us closer together.
Laura, I am happy to watch your RUclips videos. As a 65 y/o lady that never lived or worked on a farm, learn something every episode. I am so impressed how hard you and Grant work every single day. I will never forget the day that my wife and I went into the poultry business. Nothing as big as what you and Grant are doing but it was stressful for us. We had four broiler houses and borrowed over $300,000.00 to build them on land that we already owned. People do not understand that farming is 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. We have been in our poultry houses when thunderstorms hit and lightning was running up and down the cables in the houses. Wish you and Grant all of the good luck in the world. Old retired farmer by myself now.

This is a big problem with farming a lot of people don't understand. It's a vitally important industry that requires long hours, hard work, and operates with razor thin margins, yet the costs involved are astronomical and there are people out there actively attacking this industry. Your emotions are perfectly understandable, Laura, and your channel goes a long way to lift the veil on the work and dedication that goes into what you do. God bless.
It is so easy for some to look at everything you have and make statements like "Well hey they have a lot of money to have all of those toys!?" Truth is it takes a LOT of work and LONG hours to get what you have and the ones thinking you have it easy probably do not know what HARD ACTUAL WORK is!!!? You have shown in this video yet again that you guys are completely normal and you have emotions just like the rest of us and I think that is a good thing. I have turned from a secure government job here in Australia, Rangering 26 years and Teaching 5 years, to running my own small, small business now 7 years. I have very slowly and carefully taken on financial risk, but it seems you have soo much to deal with in this area. You are both truly brave.

I too was raised on a farm along time ago . We farmed with horses and worked from sun up to sun down . We never had much but we had a love of family and the land and this is something that can’t always be explained to some but this video brought back so many good memories and with it some tears of things passed . I still try to end each day looking out over the fields as the sun sets and give thanks for a life well lived . The best to you and Grant in your journey making your own awesome memories
We are here for the long haul behind "your" videos watching with pleasure and commenting occasionally, but your transparency made it clear and opened my eyes to the lives of farmers of today. One word - Wow! I'm so happy you have a place for you and Grant to call your own now, it's a wonderful feeling and yet it has new responsibilities for you two to take on to kick butt and take names.
Thank you for sharing! Watched my Dad go through those same feelings for years growing up on a farm in Western Kansas. He was a third generation farmer who absolutely loved it. He stopped farming not long after I left to go to school and pursue a different career because I knew it would not support both of us. He lived five more years passing at the age of 61. He really missed farming and it took a great deal out of him. I watch your videos to remember the farm life so thank you for sharing. It is difficult and stressful but I have yet to find any job as rewarding. Never give up and keep on enjoying farm life!

I'm a 66 year old Country Boy, my Father managed a large sheep and cattle grazing property for a Pastoral Company, and my Maternal Grandparents were into cropping, with some sheep and cattle. I've been following your channel for some years now.
It's very interesting to see how farming operations are carried on elsewhere.
It was phenomenally brave of you to put yourself out there and give us a breakdown of your numbers.

One of my cousins married a Farmer, and to sow 5000 acres of Barley, cost them $100,000 for diesel!!
When I was a lad, 45% of the Australian population was rural based.
Now it is only 12%, and still shrinking.

Laura I just watched your video spelling out all your expenses. As a farmer myself and basically on the other end of my career path from you I'm 61, I understand where you're coming from. One thing you and Grant have going for you is your youth and the fact that I think both of you are smart in that you're watching your expenses watching your input and your outgo and placing your dollars where they need to be. You're smart to buy ground you can buy new equipment all the time or at least what you need but when it comes to dirt God's not making any more of that. I wish you the best admire the two of you for what you're doing if we didn't have people from your generation following mine we'd be in a world of hurt.

We are honored to support you in a small way by watching your excellent videos. You and Grant are doing something so important to the whole world. Most people do not realize how stressful farming is and how great the expenses are. You are such a special person Laura and we want you and Grant to be successful.
Its so good to see a young couple that is smart and hard working, it's something you don't see a lot today in young people. I know what the stress is I have felt the same way, at times, over the last 73 years and I am still farming. Farming gets in you blood and it's something you can't shake off no matter how hard you try. Farming is a profession that you can work hard and do the best you can and have little or nothing left, after you pay your loans, at the end of the year. Farmers are optimistic people and they will go for another year. We think next year will be better, maybe the weather will be better, maybe the corn and soybean prices will be up and sometimes it is better. The key to it all is make a good year stretch across a bad one the next year and keep your stress level even. There was a older man told me when I was young that "If you want more, work more" but in today's world you have to think more as well as work more. My hat's off to you two, just don't work so much that you burn yourself out and if you are unsure seek counsel of some one with a lot of experience.

You guys are rocking it! The value of this experience is far beyond money. The level of maturity you guys have is not only impressive, but refreshing as well. I was raised in a dairy farming area and I learned so much about stucture, diveristy of skills and discipline from those farmers. I owe them everything. Having witnessed my Parents and Grandparents going through the stress every year of making decisions in the spring and praying those were right, I understand what Farmers go through. Congrats on purchasing your acreage. I know that not having to rent will make it less expensive but comes with it's own new set of challenges but I know you and Grant will tackle it like you do everything else. They take it for granted that this stuff will always just be on the shelves for them to buy, without considering that massive amounts of money and effort are needed to grow the food. All year I have been telling my friends, employees and such, about you and how hard you work, filming this channel and on the farm when most people are too lazy to even put in an honest 40 hour week.

Any business making over a million dollars a year is stressful, especially at the end of the year when you realize you spent it all.

Part of the reason I watch your channel is that I find it genuinely inspirational to see the amount of hard work and care that you put in to what you do and how you live your lives. I personally have love all that you and Grand teach everyone what it looks like and takes to feed the world and move the world! As a trucker myself I know how hard you guys work and the stress it brings on! With out farmers we would have nothing! Most people don’t know how much hard work and sacrifice it takes to fill a store shelf and with that I want to say THANK YOU! I have waited two years for this video. Thought you would never put this out. I loved all the problem solving videos but this was one I wanted to hear. I agree with your assesment and your stress on the financial side is monsterously scary. You farmers are why this country is prospering. I also an a geek and utterly love to learn about the tech. i think theres gonna be a buttload of us viewers/fans that never really understood the mental aspect or financial aspect of farming/your farming. This video really does put into perspective what you're doing and going through.
Its not often we see the emotional side of Laura/Grant, but this video and the Farmers Last Ride vid, really remind us that yall are human and that life isnt always ham sandwiches and cat cuddles. And we true fans absolutely love you guys for being so down to soil and being genuine and being yourselves.
