    I personally bought the Hollyland over the Rode and the Saramonic. The only advantage the Rode has over the Hollyland and the Saramonic is the internal recording, but it is also its own shortcoming because it needs its specialty software to extract the audio and pick particular audio files, and it creates dependency on Rode to continue support this software tool on the long run, had they made audio simple wave files.
    Also Rode is the only one yet that doesn't offer a battery case wich sucks having to have 3 separate cables to charge them individually. And Rode is the most expensive one if you have to add the lav mics and the accessories the competition has added to their products.
    For me the Saramonic was a clear last place with the biggest charging case and awkward decision of usb charging ports in the transmitters and receiver, and I noticed that the Saramonic has a noticeable latency, which is workable, but undesirable.
    Now to the Hollyland, the best value right now especially at the lower price point. But exposing the bads right away, I'm very disappointed that Hollyland didn't bother to have a English firmware update tool, having to figure a Chinese tool with English manual sucks, but there is one guy on RUclips with a lengthy but clear how to guide and it fixes the issue of displaying battery drawing fast wich got fixed in firmware update, battery life is very decent considering its tiny size.
    For me the Hollyland offered the smallest and most portable charging case and yet you get control to its every feature without the need for external apps or software tools, I wish it would have a usb-c in each unit for back up way of charging, but maybe on the 2nd generation. No latency whatsoever and it offers most accessories you'll need to use this unit out of the box, EXCEPT a tiny dead cat muffler for windy days, it came with extra spongy muffs, so now I'm hunting third party dead cats. I'm quite happy with it and how easy it is to use and how quality the product feels on the hand.
    I got enticed for the Rode, but I've come to appreciate the charging case of the Hollyland and it feels like regressing in progress going back to multiple charging cables and cable management mess. The internal recording feature is a plus worth overlooking the proprietary software needed to get to the files for some people, right now I do the same by adding a Zoom H1n between the mics and the receiver for a safety/backup audio file, so it takes extra hardware to do the same job and adds bulk, however the files are already usable out of the box and I just need to pop out the sd card. Ideally it would be awesome to have these tiny transceivers had internal recording AND micro sd card slot for easy audio file transfer.
    The only reason one should consider the Saramonic was for the money savings, and I don't particularly like much or dislike the LCD display on every unit to drain the transmitter battery, but now with the Hollyland cheaper just go for the Hollyland, it's easier to use and won't disappoint you.
    For the Hollyland I can't stress how frustrating was figuring how to upgrade the firmware, but although the tool. Is in Chinese, it's actually straightforward once you see the video, the caveat is that it's only doable on windows at this time and you need to extract the software on the general C drive in your PC which I have never seen that before so it feels sketchy, I run antivirus and Anti-Malware just in case and you also download the firmware update software in a Google drive bin, which is unusual and adds to my sketchy flags. But it did work as intended and the firmware update was most welcome to clear the battery indication error.
    If you're not in a hurry to get a wireless system or upgrade your current I'd wait because very soon more wireless mic systems will record internally and 32bit float recording will be a normal reality and I feel confident pricing will remain competitive.
    I'm glad I chose the Hollyland and I hope it will last for me for some years to come. I highly recommend over the Saramonic and the Rode. I have other Rode products and I nearly got the wireless go first Gen, and I'm glad I waited for the Hollyland.
    Thank you for reading my long point of view and I'm glad your channel finally got the three major wireless systems to test 😁👍

      Our biggest issues with the Hollyland so far have been 1) the lower battery life and 2) it's too easy to accidentally mute the transmitters. Other than that, we love the small size.

      You bring up a good point about software support down the line and I may go with the Hollyland myself, Chinese firmware notwithstanding. The fact it has virtually no latency is also good, the Saramonic, not so good. If anything, I'd have gotten the Sramonic Blink 500 Pro, over the Blink 500. I had been waffling between the Hollyland, the Saramonic and the Rode, the Rode looked to be the top choice, but now the Hollyland may be it.
      I was also looking at a way to add audio to two camera, but realizing there is synchronizing in some video editing software, and my old Premiere Pro has it, not as big a deal when doing A/B camera work, that is, one camera, in this case the GoPro strapped to my head near the lawnmower say for the audio, the canon Vixia on a tripod shooting me mowing, but further away can now be sync'd up, using the GoPro's audio, or an external audio, such as the Zoom or Tascam recorders.
      I'd go for the solo version that is in the pipeline for preorder, that is, it has one transmitter and receiver, but room for a second one you can buy for $89 to make it a full 2 person duo when I need a second transmitter.
      Also your point about the internal audio capability and how it's not easily extracted due to the proprietary format, that requires the software that ONLY is accessed by computer a poor design on Rode's point helps to help me make a decision on the Hollyland.
      What was the guy you mention that cracked the Chinese download tool? I know I can Google it but this insures I get what you were referring to.

To me, the Hollyland sounded a little hollow compared to the Rode which had a fuller sound (At least on my JBL monitors). Thanks so much for this comparison as I'm trying to decide between the two. Rode generally has a two-year warranty, does Hollyland offer the same?

    Good Info. I had the Saramonic and didn't open it because the Rode came out that week. But from watching your and others videos on the Rode I ended sending the Saramonic back. The charging case is very handy to have but what's important is reliability when recording. One test you should do is the line of sight. I think the Rode will perform the best plus you have a backup. I think you will have a bad day if you record all day with the audio dropping in and out.

    What is the correct understanding between the Audio Input Level and the Gain Range?
    After I watched 16:42 , I feel the audio sensitivity of Lark 150 is better which I can little bit clearly hear both of your voices with little roadway noise than the Rode II did, is it because of the Lark 150 has the most lowest audio input level of -65 dBV compared to Rode II is -20 dBV (Max) ?

    That's a really nice content of yours, I'm deciding between Rode and Hollyland and this video has some really valuable info. For me the bulky rechargeable and proprietary box to recharge is a no go: USB ports on Rode's allow use of common powerbank with double USB ports (they are kindda cheap nowadays), also, apparently one charge of Rode is equivalent to three charges of Hollyland. Only thing I missed was comparison of size and weight of the receivers: it may not be huge think for DSLRs owners but for small action cams (like GoPro or Insta360R) this may be a driver for purchase decision, and for that parameter Rode equipment seems smaller and lighter. Probably will stick with Rode because I feel it offers considerably more.

    This was an extremely helpful comparison/review. Given the sound quality being so close (and other features and options) it really comes down to price, shame on Rode for not including lav mics. It’s also strange, not like it’s a big deal but the piano glossy finish is questionable. Then there’s the necessary work around to monitor audio, no charging case and having to plug into a computer is really Stone Age thinking. I know, they say an ISO version is in the works, it should have been first and I’ll believe it when I see it.

    • @Gemini_Connect

      Agreed on all accounts. But with that said, Rode has always been a slightly more premium product and based on past experience, their audio quality via lav mics is among the best, so I understand them not including the lavs. I trust that at some point a phone app version of Rode Central will come soon -- the sooner the better!

I'm worried because you said it was at 50% in one hour. And if I have to charge using a wall outlet, that's a deal breaker unless the charging box has a built in large battery. Once again, thanks for the great video!

    I was using the InstaMic up until now. The InstaMic is an even smaller device than the Hollyland receivers and is specifically created for content creators / videographers. And it will still have it's place in my setup. I have however ordered a Røde Wireless Go II now, because by adding the second mic and adding onboard recording, they have adopted a good chunk of the features of the InstaMic with the addition of the remote receiver, which the InstaMic doesn't have, as it's a standalone mic as such.

  • @dutchpot
    @dutchpot 3 года назад

    I don't hear a lot of difference between the male voices, but the female voice seems to be better on the Rode. However, I would like to hear the difference between the Rode internal mics and the Hollyland with the equipped lavalier microphones as they come included with that system. Two Rode go microphones will set you back between 120-150 euro extra (excluding the mufflers). For that extra though the Rode still has the advantage of transmitter recording and computer interface which is a huge advantage for some. Also, the Rode Go mics mag be a bit higher quality than the included Hollyland, so if you need to upgrade those lavalier microphones basically you paid for something you don't want. I would rather have a base system and select the microphones myself. They are probably a lot more important for the audio quality.

    • @Gemini_Connect
      @Gemini_Connect  3 года назад

      We don't test with wired lavs because the Rode doesn't come with them. Also, lav mic quality is still very price dependent. In our experience, more expensive lavs give you better audio quality.

    • @dutchpot
      @dutchpot 3 года назад

      @@Gemini_Connect I agree. That's also why having the lavs on the hollyland is not necessary an advantage (basically you pay like $50-75 in the package price for two possibly lower quality microphones). It would be an asset though if they were good microphones. I decided for the Rode because of the recording on the transmitters and pc/telephone direct digital interface. But I also did buy 2 go lavaliers.

    The Rode sounded just a touch fuller and more „present“, but of course it wasn‘t a head-to-head comparison. One more thing worth mentioning about the Rode Wireless Go II is that they actually worsened one thing - very disappointing for me, personally: The clips on the mics are now made of plastic rather than metal, so it‘s no longer possible to attach them to the inside of a shirt using the magnetic plate (sold by Rode)! Why they should ditch such a useful function escapes me, unless they were just trying to cut cost. The clipped mics are rather heavy on T-shirts and tend to flop around such that the mic might end up facing upside down or against your chest, thus becoming muffled and unusable. The magnet solution was far better!!! EDIT: Please disregard my remark above about Rode having eliminated the metal clip and rendering their (optional) MagClip unusable. That was sheer stupidity on my part! I had forgotten that the magnet part of the MagClip is only ONE part of it, the other being the metal slide-on part that goes over the plastic clip on the Go! Mine had lived there for so long that I assumed it was part of the original Go, and just needed the magnet. When I recently got my new Go II, I found it didn't work. But of course it does if you slide the metal part on first. ;-) Sorry if I misguided anybody here!

    • @Gemini_Connect
      @Gemini_Connect  3 года назад +1

      This is true about the weight of the built in mics. Definitely have to clip them to a rather sturdy part of the shirt. Didn't know that the clips used to have metal in them--that would be a handy way to secure them.

    • @scottbecker3485
      @scottbecker3485 3 года назад

      @@Gemini_Connect Silly me, I corrected part of what I wrote above (see EDIT). The Rode MagClip (available separately) can make the old Go or the Go II capable of being worn on the inside (!) of shirts or thin jackets or even under scarves. You just slide the metal sleeve over the Go's clip, and place the magnet on the outside of your clothing with the Go on the inside. Easy. And it works! Of course you need to position the unit so the mic is not totally deep into your clothes, or pointed in the wrong direction. It's a great way to use the Go in a very discrete way, and without any likelihood of it sliding around or flip-flopping. It's kind of expense (about €18 here in Germany), but still worth it for convenience.
