Man, I must be in the minority then, cuz Jackie's death in Cyberpunk 2077 really hit me hard, so hard that I haven't even done a second playthrough because I don't want to go through that emotional trauma of his death again.
I don't think Jackie necessarily died too early because it was a necessary end of the first act and I thought the side mission about his memorial was really effective. Maybe more side missions dealing with his legacy would be warranted?
I believe CDPR could benefit massively from dropping one true final DLC, not as extensive as Phantom Liberty, but one that adds a number of missions and interactions with Jackie, exclusively. It would naturally take place between the intro mission, and the scripted death, not necessarily as mandatory missions, but neither as annoying "let's go bowling" from GTA IV. Hell, most people take the time to clear out all Watson contracts and sidegigs before even considering doing the mainline quests, and still won't find any additional conection with Jackie...
Yeah, he had to die though. He inspires Clive to becomes the hero the world needs and Clive was wayyy more powerful than him with way more potential. It pushed Clive to be reaponsible and be a leader, things Clive was kind of avoiding. Plus, Cid's death is a surprise, and so incredibly effective.
Cal’s entire crew in Jedi: Survivor. The game opens with a heist that features Cal working with a group of allies he suddenly has, and we learn some interesting stories about them. There’s a pair of twin bounty hunters, a hacker on the run from cartels, and a former Republican pilot. Then they all die before they can do much of anything. To further add insult to injury, the game literally picks the blandest, most uninteresting member of the crew to be the lone survivor, and it doesn’t help when they try to dive into how Cal is affected by it when we never got to see him interacting with any of them.
@@SomewhatSlightlyBored Yes, and the big twist added some more context to what the developers were TRYING to do. But it still didn't eliminate the sting of setting up some really interesting characters only to immediately kill them off.
At the time Moenbryda was in the story, Urianger and Nabriales were voiced by the same actor (in English at least). Interesting parallel even if coincidental. Also Urianger has a very emotional reunion with Moenbryda's parents in Endwalker.
Last I remember, Benny is not an amazing character in Fallout New Vegas. He’s meant to be hated. And there are a lot of ways for him to die. One of the best is being a female character with the Black Widow perk and sleeping with him. And you can figure out what happens next.
I always take black widow as a fem character, so I legitimately never knew Benny COULD escape and not die at his casino. I just assumed once you found him, he had to die. So I was legitimately extremely confused watching those scenes with him at the camp XD
To be fair to the possibilities we lost with Moenbryda we DO get to explore that a little with a real tear jerker of a scene from the Endwalker expansion pack.
Ok, imma be real. Mirabelle ervine was basically a ghost character. She stands next to the door to the hall of elements at the start, so if you dont notice her (I didnt) you walk inside and immediately skip the tour (no, i'm not kidding, I didnt notice her standing there) Then she doesnt show up again till the synod quest, even though she's really "important" in the college. Then she shows up, just to give you something cause savos died. Then she's... killed off screen? I gotta complain about her death btw. She died to get "everyone out" and yet every time I walk inside, half the random npcs will be walking around outside, and her body has just vanished. The only one who acknowledges her is tolfdir, and that's for 1 line. You can legitimately just have Toldir give you the Torc and tell you about the synod, and I bet nobody would even notice she was gone
HOPEFULLY NOT TOO SPOILLERIFIC BECAUSE IT"S ALL IN THE DEMO: If there was going to be an Atlus game on the list, maybe it's recency bias but I would more likely expect Grius from Metaphor ReFantazio. He's set up as a mentor, joins the party, can learn an archetype and fights with the protagonist. We learn a bit of his backstory, particularly when we meet his family. Then he dies before the end of the demo, leaving the protagonist as emotional support for bereaved wife and daughter.
Vaas was so beloved and Far Cry 6 sucked so much that they had to bring back Vaas in a DLC that you wouldn't be able to play unless you buy the main game, to try to make the game bearable
I was guessing Nishitani from Yakuza 0 would be here but NOPE! You hit the NAIL on the head with Yakuza 1. They killed off SOOOOO MANY characters. It genuinely pisses me off. I miss you, Nishiki! 😭
Vandham in Xenoblade 2 is a badass Aussie accented fighter so the fact that he’s killed off in the same chapter he first appears in is a massive letdown
Oh, i never met alfira So just watching this confused me XD Also, i gotta say about the BG3 thing... I just find certain characters never used, since i dont have enough party slots. Like let me take 6 characters, just make me choose a demerit to combat. Cause certain characters have story tie in stuff, but never mention it unless you bring them. Example: halsin is needed to fix the act 2 area. But since he never had a single dialogue thing about it, and when Angel girl flies across the sky and lights it up, i assumed it was fixed. Then hilariously, no, "you failed to cleanse the area" Me: "How? Didnt angel chick light it up and cleanse it?" Game: "no! You needed halsin. But we refused to let him tell you" -_-
Yup. Might've been interesting if she was kept around but the urge kept trying to get you to off her rather than just immediately doing it or she just joined on a non durge as well but....that's what we have mods for.
Don't even need a mod, just knock her out. Just got to be careful not to aggro the entire grove if someone sees you during that short round of combat. Sadly, the replacement bard who dies instead if you do that was actually funnier.
1) I'm nominating Dr Proton in DNF: The Doctor Who Cloned Me. It's smart, he's witty, he's capable, he was one of the ONLY good parts of Duke Nukem: Forever. 2) To the Persona 3 one, please don't mention "But you have a healer!" cos, just like Aerith in FF7, this is called the suspension of disbelief. In GAME, you have a healer. In STORY, you have no healing. The reason being is that using a Persona with an Evoker rips away at the user's soul. If a user evokers a Persona and then demands too much of them, like healing fatal wounds, it would render their own life forfeit in the process. We, as gamers, have the mercy of mechanics like healing spells, green herbs, phoenix downs, but in universe these are pointless. In Resident Evil lore, NOBODY has ever used green herbs (outside of one very specific comic). In Final Fantasy, Phoenix Downs are an absolutely rare item as Phoenix Feathers are stardust in rarity. And in Persona 3, they're just teenagers who can summon demons at the potential cost of their own life, there is no magical healing to everything. Remember folks: Gameplay DOES NOT EQUAL lore. If games were equal to lore, you'd not play them cos they'd be impossible! (imagine playing Resident Evil where one attack is fatal due to infection).
I got to disagree with Benny as an addition. No matter which playthrough I was doing (Good, Evil, Neutral): I wanted him dead more than anything. Should've finished me off, my boy.
There are so many ways for Benny to die, one of the best being a female character with the Black Widow perk and sleeping with him. You can guess what you are tempted to do.
One complaint I read about Xenoblade Chronicles is that there's... a certain lovable character... you don't get to spend enough time with. This character dies early on in the game, and while trope-savvy players might correctly realize that's not the end of the character's story and just be waiting for how the character comes back, it is this death that kicks off Shulk and Reyn's quest for vengeance. And while we do see this character later, it is with the will of another superimposed emerging from the character's mouth, so it's not so much like having that character around again. It isn't until Shulk and the character fully reunite that we see the character as the character... for the most part. (Identity beyond the Read more.) I am, of course, talking about Fiora.
Both Vandhams from Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and 3 come to mind. They died pretty quickly but, they were inspirational and strong-willed. They cared more about the lives of others over their own. Fiora looked like she was killed off saving Shulk's life but, thankfully was used as a vessel for Meyneth.
I don't even remember that scion from FF14 she was THAT forgettable also knocking out Alfira before long rest saves her from being killed another characters takes her place although she doesn't join the party
She was introduced and then killed off before we really got to know or bond with her. We get more on her relationship with Urianger in Endwalker when we meet her parents, though
Nah, Alfira is a stupid entry. She's only even guaranteed to die on 1 specific niche playthrough... elsewise she has a better chance of living than most of her friends. Besides which, Volo is already a recurring Bard for the player's camp And, frankly, if you knock her out to cheese skip her death trigger... the replacement bard who gets killed by the Dark Urge instead was funnier too. >_< She's memorable for being one of the few female characters, player or NPC, without a severe case of ugly because Larian couldn't be bothered to make attractive characters.
Man, I must be in the minority then, cuz Jackie's death in Cyberpunk 2077 really hit me hard, so hard that I haven't even done a second playthrough because I don't want to go through that emotional trauma of his death again.
Absolutely! Every single playthrough I'm still in tears when Jackie passes. I know it's coming and still hits me like a truck.
😂 Definitely, this was the first name that popped to mind after reading the title.
I was sure I wasn’t the only one! Now I look forward to a new run cuz I get to see Jackie again! Take care choom!
You still haven't made it through the prologue on your second playthrough Man!
Yeah, it was a real gut punch. I made sure my V did everything Jackie related I could find afterwards
Trying to save Carley is what proved to me the Telltale games didn't have as much choice as you are led to believe.
I'm still sad about Duncan 😢😢 Dragon Age Origins 💔
He was a badass
Prequels DLC the Jackie days would have made so much sence with the rushed video of them bonding
From Farcry 3 Vaas is not Dead, he just moved as a Smuggler for Liberta
I don't think Jackie necessarily died too early because it was a necessary end of the first act and I thought the side mission about his memorial was really effective. Maybe more side missions dealing with his legacy would be warranted?
Voss was a pretty amazing antagonist. He was so great I forgot his bosses name.
Vaas*

I hated that they killed off Cid in FFXVI he was my favourite character and he's gone for a big chunk of the game
Yeah, he had to die though. He inspires Clive to becomes the hero the world needs and Clive was wayyy more powerful than him with way more potential. It pushed Clive to be reaponsible and be a leader, things Clive was kind of avoiding. Plus, Cid's death is a surprise, and so incredibly effective.

did you... get through the rest of the game?
@@SomewhatSlightlyBored Yes, and the big twist added some more context to what the developers were TRYING to do. But it still didn't eliminate the sting of setting up some really interesting characters only to immediately kill them off.
Nihlus. Mass Effect.
How about a list of video games based on books? I’m sure a lot of gamers would love reading more about some of their favorite games.
At the time Moenbryda was in the story, Urianger and Nabriales were voiced by the same actor (in English at least). Interesting parallel even if coincidental.

So Like Lucca Brassi In The Godfather (1972) One thing I didn't like about that movie was taking him out so early among other things
To be fair to the possibilities we lost with Moenbryda we DO get to explore that a little with a real tear jerker of a scene from the Endwalker expansion pack.

Carley's death hit me hard. Just got through the bandit attack and a minute later she's murdered.
HOPEFULLY NOT TOO SPOILLERIFIC BECAUSE IT"S ALL IN THE DEMO: If there was going to be an Atlus game on the list, maybe it's recency bias but I would more likely expect Grius from Metaphor ReFantazio. Future video idea,a three way gaming duel between fgs, playstation access & outside xbox. Which top 10 gaming channel is the best one?
Killing Cid in FF16 killed the game for me. It just fell flat after that.
That hot enemy boss from ff16. She was way more interesting than any of them that followed
Benedikta
@andresfajardo6838 thank you. She was a great character, couldn't remember her name
Good list 🎮👏
They explore Moenbryda’s relationship with Urianger in the Endwalker expansion.
THE MOENBRYDA SHOUT OUT..nice
Vaas was so beloved and Far Cry 6 sucked so much that they had to bring back Vaas in a DLC that you wouldn't be able to play unless you buy the main game, to try to make the game bearable
Varric, I don't care that we got 2 games with him, he was killed off so cheaply
I’m guessing the 2nd entry was written in a way to not spoil somewhat minor parts of a later expansion then.
I was guessing Nishitani from Yakuza 0 would be here but NOPE! You hit the NAIL on the head with Yakuza 1. They killed off SOOOOO MANY characters. It genuinely pisses me off.
I miss you, Nishiki! 😭
Julian, browser games, flash games, please my good man
I'm not gonna lie I cried when. Jackie died on top of that I had my own music playing instead of the game and it made it even more 😢
...hi, my name is Jones, and I...also ate Benny.
I love the pronunciation of Bad Ass crosses through all what culture content
The bard thing is a simple dialog update
Vandham in Xenoblade 2 is a badass Aussie accented fighter so the fact that he’s killed off in the same chapter he first appears in is a massive letdown

-_-
Alcina Dimitrescu! Poster villain of RE8 only to be the first lord ethan kills!
Jackie's death really hit me hard
Is this video slightly sped up? Something is off and I don't think it's Jules talking too fast.
Almost everyone in The Last of Us Part 1 w/o plot armor. Still need to play Part 2.
The inverse of this would be Characters who were killed off too late, number 1, Abby from TLOU2.
I looove playing as The Dark Urge 😈😈 though I use a mod to save Alfira 😝
Yup. Might've been interesting if she was kept around but the urge kept trying to get you to off her rather than just immediately doing it or she just joined on a non durge as well but....that's what we have mods for.

Wait, how did they show clips with Carley in parts of the Walking Dead that take place after she is killed!? Wtf?
Tai Kaliso Gears of War 2 suuuurely on a follow up list
Personally, I would put Rost from “Horizon: Zero Dawn” on this list.
Lady D better be
On this list! XD
Hey yall, love the channel :D
So Lenny didn't make it to the end of the movie, err, game?
I got to disagree with Benny as an addition. No matter which playthrough I was doing (Good, Evil, Neutral): I wanted him dead more than anything. Should've finished me off, my boy.

Green Biker Dude - Mega Man X2
Lenny from RDR2 is also part Native American.
So a Black character (Lenny in RDR2) is under utilized and killed off in a pathetic fashion after showing promise of being interesting. Shocked? No.
LENNY!!!!! Leeeennnyyyy!
Man jackie dieing hits me hard i dont know what you are talking about
Lenny!
NOT LENNY!!!!!!!!!
Joel. The Last of Us 2
Carmine?

@Varkas108 oh it was her parents!. ARR base game was years ago it doesn't help the memory
LENNNNYYYYY
Lneny!
Varric. I cried so much. Dragon Age Veilguard.
RIP the lovable dwarf 💔
Thanks for that spoiler. Haven't played the game yet.
Bad bgm
