- In this video we are looking for an answer. Can Classic French cuisine still be that good?
Welcome to Hong Kong. One of the most unique cities in the world.
Our restaurant for today is Caprice. The head chef is Guillaume Galliot. The restaurant is located in The Four Seasons hotel.

My name is Alexander. I’m the co-owner of a ONE Michelin star restaurant, and I’m on a mission - to find inspiration in gastronomy. I love fine dining, good wine and sharing what I know with other people.

Alexander and Krug Champagne, an inseparable duo
One day Krug will officially sponsor a video :)
Was that one glass of Krug for 800 Euro? Or 57% of the total bill... Awesome!
High-functioning alcoholics unite!
@@barath4545doubt it isn’t already tbh…
@@ChrilleSellisit’s said that the sign of a good lunch is that the bill should be 2/3 alcohol..
The production value and quality in general of your video's really stand above the rest of the pack. Great content.
Simply incredible!!! Clearly so much thought goes into them. Such incredible attention to detail. What a channel!
Like it’s hard to make great quality video when you’re rich..
@@tipitii7388 Doesn't really affect my enjoyment of these video's compared to lower quality ones on the platform.
As they age, their output decreases, but the quality gets better. Just like us. Such a cute thing to say.
I'm old but my poops are enormous.
wrg, outx etc any nmw

Today, for lunch, I chose to get some takeaway from my local Nepalese restaurant called Mango Palace. And what a palace it is! Already from afar, I can see the welcoming yellow window tapes of this fine establishment. Upon arrival, I am happily greeted by none other than the owner of the restaurant himself, as I'm a loyal customer. As always, he is impeccably dressed in polished dress shoes and a perfectly ironed shirt - signs of a true professional! These little details really make a difference for me. The service is friendly, joyful and fast and I really don't feel like a customer, more like a part of the restaurant family. The salad buffet is fresh and full of variety and I stuff my styrofoam box full of some amazing chickpea salad and marinated onions, as usual. For drink, I chose some Nepalese tea. It has delightful notes of clove and cinnamon. For main course, I chose chili tofu with rice. The tofu is well cooked, soft but with just the right amount of texture and bite to it. The rice is perfectly al dente. The sauce is super tasty, full of strong savoury flavors clearly from dark soy sauce and many different spices, with some noticeable zing from ginger and a nice amount of heat from the chili. I could eat this all day. And in fact I do, since the portion is so big that this is the second time I'm eating it today, and it's just as good cold, if not even better. What a wonderful experience.
I love this. Every local place with good food deserves a review like this.
@@melissalambert7615For me, even more than the good food, it's the comfort and joy of being a regular at the same lunch places. The interactions with the owners/chefs/staff always make my day and I can see from their faces that I also make theirs. It's not just normal polite customer service after 5+ years of getting that lamb curry or pork tonkatsu from the same places every week. And it's like losing a friend when one of "my" restaurants closes, like many did during the quarantine years :(
Thank you, nicely done!
Did it cost you 1400 euro though?
@@EntropicalNatureIt was 11,90e so pretty good value IMO
5:55 that's the truffle shaver designed by the Italian chef Oldani, two michelin star owner at D'O, in Italy! :D I went to his restaurant few months ago!
This is the kind of info I come for in the comments! - Only on Alexanders videos!
Thanks for sharing, might soon go there anyways, if vacation time permits.
Who cares?
Can't believe my favorite food channel on RUclips just went to my hometown and made a video about one of the restaurants here!
Thank you for your good work Alexander :) Enjoy your stay in Hong Kong!
You're the best in the best business brother, keep up the top quality work! WIll follow this channel to the top. One day I will eat everything you've showcased.
i just love that last sentence
as an april fools prank, can you do this exact format of video but for fast food restaurants? I think that would be hilarious
This video was indeed another step up! Im a big fan of the history lessons in between dishes :)
I'm already sad about the locales I will probably never get to, don't make it worse 😂
I love how much your videos continue to improve and how much more relaxed and comfortable you seem with practice. Keep up the amazing work!
The first few mins of this video is pure gold! Easily one of your best videos so far from a storytelling perspective. Great job Alex!
Probably the best value wine pairing I've seen on this channel so far. the d'Yquem alone is worth the price. I wonder if there were any special additions for Alexander that a normal guest might not be offered.
Not much wine for me nowadays on doctor’s orders, but I still make a point of getting d’Yquem at any restaurant that offers it by the glass!
I suspect there could well have been.
He paid for a "4 glasses lunch pairing" and he got like double that so...
This is prob the first video i seen of him actually getting full. Thats a good sign. Would love to go here to eat, the portions look good!
Massive compliment to whoever does the editing on your channel. They deserve more recognition!
I feel like I am in a NETFLIX quality documentary watching your stuff. Keep it up!
Omg the structure on that chocolate sorbet 🤩. I liked the bit of extra wine info. Good video once again!
Loved all the info this episode on the wines! From the processes of production to where they're from, the insight into these aspects of the dining experience are wonderful for someone that hasn't had the pleasure of trying one before!
Aha moment why this channel is beyond good, you are not just experiencing great food with Alex Story Telling but who can't expect the history of the food or wine. *Chef kiss
Man your content is just so professional, it pairs with the food so well.
I give these videos a 👍🏻 before I even watch them. You know it’s gonna be 💯🔥
Me too Alexander is such a professional at his work it’s always going too be good his passion and honesty steals the show all the time as he says perfect 👌

Probably the best looking sauce work of any restaurant you have on your channel Alexander!
Welcome to Hong Kong Alex! Have been subscribing to your channel since the very first video and I am so happy you have tried one of the restaurants in the city! Hope you enjoyed your stay here!
This looks like a home run all the way around. Loved to see it sir.
Perfect as always - thanks Alex!
I always enjoy watching you, as a lover of champagne and wine, and of course delicious food. Its fantastic to see the restaurants you visit. Keep up the excellent content, its a joy.
Watching this channel is very inspirational for new and upcoming Chefs. I never realized how much time and effort goes into each dish. This channel show cases extraordinary Chefs talents. We hope to one day to enjoy one of the restaurants showcased in your videos. Thank you BT 🇨🇦
Thank you for your shoutout for Swiss wine. We have some great producers here.
Great video, as always.
Great clip! Everything looked excellent from the presentation to the quality of the food 👍
Ha, I'm on my exchange year in Hong Kong right now-- no clue this place existed. Not quite in the student budget. Cheers for the video and wonderful content!
Great stuff as always Alexander.
Thank you for another great review 😊
Would love to see you do more places in the USA. Great content as always! Cheers.
Great work once again. Thank you.
I've always wanted to go to Hong Kong, now I know what to do when I get there! I like the new outro btw :)
Been here since 3000 subs. Keep it up Alex!
Love the chef bios - Great video Alex
I love your videos as they are very inspiring also for hobbyists! I'm so conditioned to your videos that the changed outro music took me by surprise haha
Best meal ever on this show!!!! Loved it!!!!
Great video as always!
Regarding the ending music, I like the old one better.
Something I really love but I don’t think is appreciated enough is putting sources of the videos and pictures.
Thanks a lot for that, it’s helped me find some more interesting videos to watch and it’s such a classy thing to do to at least cite your sources!
1:11 definitely seen those buildings in the movie Ghost in the Shell.
This channel is too good. Thank you for this
I wouldn’t ever miss your show. Everyone sense you started I watch.
wow welcome to Hong Kong Alexander! Hope you enjoy our food and your time here!
Excellent as usual!
Ezt is odatetted, Sanyi !
Újabb kitűnő videó. Gratulálok !
Es köszi.
I’m a simple man, Alexander reviews a restaurant, I watch the review. Another great one!🍷
On my way to work and it’s time to watch this!!
Changing your dish with each vintage of wine is top shelf shit!! Unbelievable props to that chef and kitchen staff, as well as sommelier(s)
Hi Alexander, very soon , Michelin will have to rate your channel. You will be the first in culinary history to receive 3 stars in their first review , and you're not even a restaurant ! In every video , we can taste the food , and taste the wine , a degustation of place and history and your own joyful appreciation of a luxury that is essential ( if one can afford it !) . We also get to meet people in fine restaurants and fine hotels who don't just walk to your table , they drift in like gossamer . What a restaurant ! What a chef ! What proficient and elegantly-dressed staff ! Thank you , Alexander . You make me feel like the great Gatsby !
Wow again Alex, you're the best
Love this guy! Premium content!
Your videos are 3 star. Really well done 👏👏👏👏
Great video Alexander, once again! Thanks for taking us with you to such nice locations. Just one small thing - besides being a bit "standard YT vlogger-ish", I found the music a bit overpowering. Just my 2 cents. No offense; I still look forward to every new video you post!
In my view french cuisine can't be matched, it's a matter of taste - but it is my taste, thanks for another great episode
subbed since only hundred of sub always enjoying your vid, cheers mate
Thank you for updating the outro music - much better!
Affordable (the majority of his bill was that special bottle of Krug!), high quality, and surprisingly - he had so much food and wine and he was full by dessert which is not something I normally expect to hear from fine dining! Amazing. A fully belly after leaving restaurant is a warm feeling.
Finally you're here in Hong Kong!!! Welcome!
I never miss out on your videos. Almost feel as if I’m there at those 3 Michelin star restaurants.
One request - can you please list the wines you have in the description.
What a good time to check youtube :)
been waiting for you to review Caprice! I had the good fortune to dine here when they "only" had 2 stars, but the very next they were awarded their 3rd so... close enough! 2 or 3 stars, the food was delicious and service impeccable. Hope you will cover more 3 star establishments in Asia soon... cheers!
Excellent video, thank you so much.
Excellent as usual.
I really like the educational bits like the history of Hong Kong or about the Madeira Wine 👍
Great video ! Thank you very much
The sheer level of concentration when pouring that glass of wine at 10:18 is amazing haha! xD
This my favorite show on RUclips!!!!!
You guys are really setting up the way of seeing restaurants from a RUclips channel to another level
Humble
Straight
Objective
Light indirect Humor😂😅
Informative
and so on
Congratulations
Always waiting for more ❤️🙌🏼
The subscribe to this channel comment was smooth, and as always a beautiful, interesting and tasty video!
Great video. Caprice my favorite restaurant in Hong Kong.
You have to check out the cheval blanc or the Stucki in Basel, Switzerland!
Not normally into sweets or dessert but those looked Really REALLY Good!!!
Alexander and his Krugs. Double the price of the signature dish 🤣
Fan / subscriber from Hong Kong !

You were here! Hope you manage to squeeze a couple more places from here before you leave!
In a few years alexander the guest reviews will be worth more than a Michelin star
I love the journey of this channel from showcases the best fine dining has to offer, to cultura, regional and tidbits about the chef also. Is French cuisine still relevant? Of course it is. Just look how long Le Bernadin has retained it's status in America. I would prefers meals like this over the theatrical ones like Alchemist. The food should be the focus, not the light show or props. I ate at Alchemist last year and two hours later we were at a Kebab stand trying to think of the most memorable "experience" at Alchemist. It was the desserts.😅
I would love to see you try Michelin star restaurants in Chicago!
Best food videos on RUclips❤️❤️❤️❤️
Something I didn’t expect in my life is that I would be a specialist of Krug champagne !
I'm not sure about this - but it seems you managed to squeeze this in during a layover in Hong Kong - if you did, that's absolutely amazing!
Here I am making financiers and marmalade while those petit fours indeed looked like works of art. All courses looked delicious and good sized portions, nobody is leaving hungry x.
I've only done fine dining a few times so I'm genuinely curious. Do you actually finish each glass of wine? What about the entire bottle of champagne? Two glasses of wine at dinner and I'm full! lol
Love the content as usual. Thanks for bringing us along.
Alexandre, thanks for the video, did you planned to try Paul Bocuse restaurant in Lyon ? They have a special centenaire menu this year.
Loved the history lesson
12k well spend. It was a delight. That duck was the best and the dessert, just awesome to see
And it was HK dollars, so "just" $1533 US.
Which is not too bad considering half of it is a bottle of Krug 161 (for which the price is not that wild either, considering it is 10 versions old now).
I'm glad you could visit before the PRC devour Caprice.
You need to come to Adelaide (barossa Valley) to try the fine vintage wines and food you mentioned.
I love that Magnum ‚Bulles de Comptoir' #11 Extra Brut by Charles DUFOUR 🍾
Ah - there's also an old-style restaurant in Happy Valley, called Amigo. It's less fancy than your usual restaurant, but it feels classic and elegant. You should give it a try.
Wow the first champagne is natural, Charles Dufour! Great to see
Magical! 🙏🏽
Could you do a video on guest etiquette at fine dining (or even just “fancy”) restaurants? Things like how you didn’t finish most of those wine glasses - I’m assuming that’s customary?
You know, it would be nice if you did a video on your suits. Like where you get them from
Mate, you have the strangest accent I ever heard, but this channel is world class and I love it!
Hungarian is a pretty unique language, even compared to the related Finnish. Just as well they can often speak English though, I think I knew three words of Hungarian last time I was in Budapest!
Sounds exactly like any other Hungarian I've spoken to...
@@nardinit well I have haf many hungarian co-workers but this is something else. Without subtitles it would be difficult to understand all of it, but again this channel rocks anyways!
Love the world of cuisine and the different cultures, but i'll always go for a fulfilling meal over a good looking one. Since this world focuses to much on things to look good then to be good. Still keep up the good work and enjoy your dish!
Of course delectable French restaurants are still on top of their game ! I sometimes, get lost in the ego of Scandinavian restaurants, yes they are also extremely good and pave the modern path, but it should not come at the cost of forgetting that you are not the only fish in the sea. This may be an unpopular opinion, but we should look further than our own noses. Thank you Alex for sharing this story, and for showcasing more than the W50BR !
If it is done well it can be. Actually my first experience with French cuisine was a little daunting. My family just showed up at the place after Not being able to agree on where to eat. But anyway we all ended up having a great experience and going back to the restaurant for almost two decades. Also they did German food too, and I really enjoyed that.
PLEASE TRY ALINEA in Chicago
Seconding this.
You need try out the most remote Michelin starred restaurant in the world, Koks! Faroese 2 Michelin star restaurant currently located in Greenland. It's amazing!
