- Do you know the world-famous beauty brand Shiseido?
In 1973, this company opened a restaurant in Tokyo, that helps introduce the country to French cuisine. It’s our restaurant for today, L’Osier. It's a 3 Michelin Star French restaurant in the Tokyo neighbourhood of Ginza.
The head chef is Olivier Chiagnon, who is celebrating his 10th anniversary here at L’Osier.
In this episode, We tell you the incredible story of this restaurant, from ice cream soda to 3 Michelin stars.

My name is Alexander. I’m the co-owner of a ONE Michelin star restaurant, and I’m on a mission - to find inspiration in gastronomy. I love fine dining, good wine and sharing what I know with other people.
Check out my restaurant:

Wow, to have P.Montrachet, D.R.C, and `Chateau Yquem in one sitting is like :............................ no words can do that justice.
But what did the second person drink?
@@mikaelplaysguitar Coke without ice
@@mikaelplaysguitarice cream soda
@@mikaelplaysguitar Mineral water, but in reality the wine tasting pairings can and are usually split in two, so both can taste.
Or the 2nd person prefered to stay sober or got a glass on the house, like the Yquem which isn't on the bill either.
300 euro for half a glass of Richeburg is like, getting to kiss the girl and then she goes home alone 😢
It seems like the productions are getting even better. Great history, great photographs, great enjoyment.
The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous. I gasped out loud at the sight of the front door.
This is not just food review I’m actually learning many things about history and the quality of these videos are really amazing
I had no idea that Shiseido had extended into the food and beverage sector, much less owned a place like L’Osier! The transition from a pharmacy selling ice cream sodas to hosting a French culinary haven is mind-blowing.
Love the little history lessons that you throw into every video, keep up the quality content.
Agreed! Very educational for my lowly peasant self.
It’s amazing when a half a glass of wine costs more than your entire amount of food. You really love wine!
It IS crazy - But its supply and demand and Bourgogne/Burgundy DRC or Dom Leroy is THE "cool" wine to have sadly.
Back in 2001 I paid just 300 eur for a 5-course dinner with a DRC tasting of 1995 before it - All reds - RC, LT, RSV, RB, GE and E were all there and then 1970 Vega Sici thrown in too.
Also there were glasses of Clos Vougeot at the dinner too if you ran out of DRC wines.
Today that tasting + dinner would have cost 5000 eur per person if not more.
babe wake up, Alex dropped a new review
The rich ass Hungarian at it again
Oh my gosh, this video quality is actually *insane* this is Netflix level editing wow
It is good, but not insane nor netflix quality!
I absolutely love this video format. This is not just a review, it's a review, an experience and a history lesson in one, with great versatility!
Your story is incredible. My hat off to you Mr. Alexander.
For those interested in a more downscale version of this, there are Shiseido Parlors all across Japan.
For the average Japanese citizen they are fairly expensive dinners ranging from 3600-11000 yen (though affordable to Americans haha...).
Their Fruits Parlors specifically have some of the best parfaits money can buy. Highly recommend the one connected to Nagoya station.
Another absolute banger! Will never tire of your ability to blend the historic elements of the restaurant, chef, food, and wine with the immersive elements of the meal itself. Your content just gets better and better. Thank you as always! ❤❤❤
£165 on the set menu and £535 on 2 half glasses of wine 🤣🤣🤣
lol, the man loves his wine!
Lovely storytelling and impressions. Thank you for making these videos!
I really appreciate this channel and you people behind it putting in the work. I especially love the history lessons and how open you are about the costs of your endeavors. Its not a given, so thank you very much.
Bravo ... fantastic video! You have a wonderful ability to talk to us like we are there with you, without talking down to us.
Congrats for your fantastic videos.....as a french epicurian, I really enjoy any of your experience and get the feeling to share your experience at the same time as you. Thanks also for the quality of your pronounciation : clear, elegant and with rythm !
As a French puritanical you lack the knowledge of fine dining and rely solely on your ignorance.
Another great video, here's to Krug and Caviar forever!
Brillant episode! What distinguishes this channel from the many others and what I enjoy so much is the depth of knowledge, appreciation and love for the culinary arts. I really appreciate the little lessons on champagne as well!
Nice that you cover more and more about your wines and also give some insights and backgrounds. This is very entertaining and gives the video more depth
Loved the focus on the wines and the story behind them in this video!
Alexander, the michelin guide just posted the new restaurants that won a star in México. It would be interesting if you try some of them in a video!
Really excellent episode. I love seeing such great service, impeccable food and out of this world wines.
Funnily enough, the best bread service I've had was at a Hungarian restaurant - Onyx in Budapest back when it had the 1*. I had 9 different breads with that meal and the dedicated bread waiter would have added more if I hadn't asked to stop!
Jon Snow HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHA. This little hint of humor is fantastic
I’ve been to seven 3 star Michelin restaurants and this was absolutely the finest in all ways.
My all time favorite channel. Just incredible videos.
I cannot describe how amazing it is to have DRC by the glass! ... Also for "just" 340 eur a glass it is also a slam dunk for me, even in 2013, a smaller vintage.
Had DRC before but its been 23 yrs since I had RC the one/only time (1995 vintage) - Last DRC was La Tache 2017 (good but not great yet, closed, tobacco) in 2023.
For Bordeaux lovers its like if they had first crus from 1982 by the glass or so.
L'Osier! #1 of all the French restaurants I want to try in Japan (#2 is L'Effervescence, both are in Tokyo and both 3*).
As a sommelier and wine professional, I thank you for your videos. I haven't had the chance to taste many expensive wines yet, but I do sell some of them, so your descriptions are so helpful!
Excellent quality of videos and every new one getting better and better.
100% agree on this one, and as a Hungarian I also hear his accent is getting smoother, he really puts huge effort in this channel, his team is also doing a great job in making the videos more informative, the animations, the maps, the style is evolving time by time. I’m so proud of this man, he represents the minority of the population of this country. The quality seekers here are a rare breed unfortunately. He truly seems a great man.
Your history lessons really makes me more enthusiastic in Wines😀.
Always my favourite videos and a real treat each time.
Great video yet again! I'd love to see longer videos that focus on the food itself in detail.
Wowwwww, what an experience !! DRC by the glass is pretty special, unbelievable 💯💯🔥. What a beautiful experience, what a beautiful dishes, and what a beautiful wines. Love your video as well, beautiful made again 🙏🙏
I had absolutely zero interest in wine until I found this channel. I only really cared about the food, but now I am desperate to find some of these rare bottles somehow.
Glad to see more content! I was wondering when your next video was going to be!
Another excellent, beautiful and informative video!
Sir Alex another fantastic video !!! Great knowldge you give us from all tour videos. This time... the great domaines of Burgundy ! Bravo Senor ! You are living large and I love your enthusiasm ❤️
Alexander, I truly enjoy your videos. Amazing channel.
Your videos are amazing! Keep up the great work man.
Absolutely fantastic, thanks! :)
.
My favorite episode. Don't forget to do HIIT between stops.
Love your channel, this vid was top notch.
Again you smashed it with this vid 👍👍👍🍻
Great episode and history.
Wow, some of the best wines ever in this episode. Congratulations (also to the sommelier who chose them)!
MEGA!! the chateau d'yquem on the house!! Can't wait to hit this place! One speed: GO!
Hi from Brazil. Really impressed with the quality of your videos. Keep the good fight!
Thank you so much for an excellent and very informative video, just fantastic!
Nice to see you again. 💪💪💪💪 Great restaurant 😍😍😍
Now this is a place I want to visit.
What an experience, and at that bargain!! BTW, I hope to join you at the 500,000 subscribers table 😊
Excellent. I appreciate the insights into champagne.
I love the fact that they have exceptional domains by the glass.... Gives a chance for people who couldnt afford a bottle to at least try some once
I am loving this channel, sir!
Another phenomenal review. Nice to see such a wine list by the glass - they must have a great Coravin system in place.
Not sure I’d pay £600 for a glass though!
Keep it up, can’t wait for the next one.
What's that wonderful music in the background? A kind of jazz hiphop
Sleepy + Hungry by Baegel
The wine tasting idea was brilliant
your videos are amazing as always but I feel like as your channel grows, you spend more time on the background and history (which is interesting) but would like to see you get to the restaurant/food/experience faster. just a thought!
always fire! bring on the napa valley episodes!!!
Easily the best video yet! The history you bake into everything is the best. I’d love it if you share more about the wines. I think it would add to the videos!
Perfect video, keep up the great work!
If you revisit Sweden, there is a restaurant named Leijontornet in Stockholm that has a nice selection of premium wines. They offer bottles of D.R.C (2017, 2019, 2020) for 120 000 SEK or about 10 300 EUR incl. tax/VAT per bottle. They also have Yquems for a nice price, all bottles in stock for under 1000 EUR per bottle, except the 1997 Methuselah one which is about 2400 EUR.
Interesting story bit, also what a crazy price on the wine list. But man seeing the years and all. It isn't surprising.
I want to be a part of reviewing restaurants with you !!
Into a new review vid 10 minutes after it was posted 😌
Pfff would I wish I was you for a few days😂 thx again for a great episode
You know I'm French and have been a wine fan all my life ; I've been lucky to own and taste some of the greats from my country, from Latour to Lafite, from Petrus to Cheval Blanc and Ausone... But I have NEVER been able to get my hands on a DRC bottle, let alone taste one ! It's just impossible. It's something I'm trying to do before I die, so enjoy !
I have liver disease, it's nice to see non alcoholic pairings on a menu
I'm sorry to hear that, have a great day
Completely unrelated but… Alexander that green blazer looks amazing! Could you share the mill or the fabric’s name ? Thanks
Videos from your location have a different frame rate than those where you are in front of the camera, and that creates some jerkiness in the motion due to youtube's processing. Please film in 30fps when you are filming on location for the perfect result.
Great videos!! visited Plenitude thanks to you and loved it (with a hole in my pocket to show hh)
Very nice episode!!
Wow.. just wow..
Quite surprised you haven't hit a million followers yet. Nagyszerű munka
Another great video. I drink wine so rarely that I'm afraid some of these really rare and expensive ones would kind of be wasted on me. I have tried Chateau Yquem several years ago. There's no need for any other dessert if that is served.
Amazing 🎉
Impressive ❤
Jon snow as the bastard is hilarious
Huge fan and look forward to every episode. This is not my favorite.. IMO too much about history and story of the wines. Still interesting. Thank you! Can’t wait until next episode
Thanks dad
Keep it up love your work
Fine dining review is fantastic as always. Have you thought about reviewing michelin starred food trucks or more obtuse establishments?
Love your videos! Have you been to the Park Hotel in Voss, Norway? I had DRC by the glass there last year
"Sir, Alexander The Guest just posted"
Always a delicious pleasure well presented 😊
I remember watching a documentary where they said France needed to restrict japan from buying all the french quality wine :)
Thank you for your educational (and entertaining!) videos, sir. If I may ask: As an expert, what do you think of Coteaux Champenois, the “Red Champagne”?
Frankly at 200 € the 6 course dinner, it's a side for the wines presented.
Great idea to enjoy the best this restaurant have to offer, and treat it as a kind of wine bar!
amazing video!
A guest at our restaurant ordered some DRC and shared it with the staff, it was fucking glorious
Insane wine list
I'd be tempted at that price but have time only for either this, Sezanne or L'effervescence later this year. Decision time...
One year older* 5:05. Love the videos!
so funny we were in japan during the same time you were (or at least when this came out). we only watch this now after our trip. we had dinner in ginza a few times, though not at this kind of restaurant. the japanese bbq at gojoen is worth doing if you ever come back there. although its completely different.
I enjoy watching this drinking my 1 euro beer and 2 euro sausage.
Has this turned into a wine channel purely?
Do they open the wine just for you although you ask per glass and not the all bottle? What do they do after that with the rest of the bottle?
Honestly thats a very accessible way to serve Romanee Conti wine
What the f.... 700 Euro a head and you get to sip two DRCs, two respectable Montrachets, D'yquem, and two champagnes?! People would pay more for these bottles alone let alone pair it with a 3-Michelin starred meal. This is one hell of a find!
Have to say this place checks off all of the boxes.
