Played this at my 22 year old sons funeral in June, I can still hear him singing his heart out to it from his room (badly I might add 😂) miss him so much but listening to music he loved fills me with joy
Sorry for your loss...your son had good taste in music X
May his memory be a blessing
Sorry for your loss. I was just thinking a few moments ago how I used to play this in my room and my mum would come in, but she did not like James' voice. Nice memory.
Sorry to hear about your loss Nicola-may this song bring you peace, strength and light in your darkness x
hope your pain heals
Ahhh , the summer of 92 , and not a care in the world , it was absolutely fantastic. But now I'm 59 , with aches and pains and pressures of life getting me down , God I wish it was 92 again 😂
amen
Everyday is summer 92😉
I'll say
I hear you brother
Yep me too
Im here in 2024.
Tuned In from somewhere over here in Liverpool 🏴 UK 😎🇬🇧🎵🎵🎶🎶
This song made me fall in love with The Manics. I'm 58 soon and will be fulfilling my dream of seeing them live at The Eden Project in a few weeks time. I'm so excited! I feel like a kid again. See you soon lads (especially James 😍)
Fighting cancer right now, so not so easy travelling, but if I do make it out the other side, walking around Tokyo with this playing on a loop is high on my list of things to tick off.
Wish you the best!
Keep fighting.....don't give up.
All the best keep going.
Keep fighting and you will achieve that goal😊. Hope to see a video of you walking around Tokyo soon
It is a classic, reminds me of good times in my early 20's . Good luck dude , How's it going?
This was mine and my mate's favourite manic Street Preachers song. He sadly passed away last weekend of cancer. Rip johno love you mate hope you're listening.
He is sure listening man. ! He will always be!
Yay- what a great way to remember someone by. 4 ever. Mind you - tissues will defo be needed

@Seb Web10 thanks mate 👍
As if this incredible song wasn't already emotional enough, many of the comments here are tough for me to read. Love to everyone who are reminded of those they've lost or of their own struggles when hearing this.
A message to the future generations: "DON'T LET THIS SONG DIE" 💞👌😊👍
Timeless classic... lets hope Richey is happier wherever he is.

Or Thailand, depending who you ask...
Definitely!!
He's not dead , living in Spain/french border country, but let him be.
Probably one of the best songs ever created
So unique too, an iconic riff without power chords, also Welsh 🏴

True
🤣
Fantastic song ,
Hey everybody . Just double double checking in 2024 .. that we still all agree this is the greatest record ever right ? Yep .. all good gang 👍🏽😊
Best record of 1992. The next best was You Love Us.
Listen to much music?
Manics kept me alive so many times, when I felt I couldnt possibly live anymore. They let me know, I was not alone and someone did understand the hopeless buried between both light and dark. Still... So many years later, they comfort me on my darkest days.
Stay beautiful.
🥰
This I recognize...
Please just reach and and talk, im here always, anything to help!!
@@tonyswan6834 people don't reach out cos they don't want to be judged for the stigma that surrounds mental health issues....imo
Absolutely buddy. Music has the power to let us be "Better of than dead!" to quote Lou Reed. Somedays I'll literally feel like I can't live another Day, then I'll put some music on, or pick my bass up. An hour later I wonder how I coulda bin so fuckin down and so, so alone in this hateful world. Pick myself up and move on.
Hey. I know it's 3 months ago, but I totally get where your coming from in your comment. There IS love and kindness our there. It WILL find you and you will find happiness, not emptiness.
ARMITAGE.
Finally, listening to Motorcycle emptyness with my earphones while walking around Tokyo's neon lights and with tears in my eyes.
One of my all time favorites.
Infinite Skai Now I can have some new checklists for my next trip in Tokyo, follow The Manics!
I just did that two week ago
Yes very emotional song
Sounds beautiful 💙
How bazaar I’m in Tokyo and felt like listening to this also
This have been my song since I was 15 and now I'm 45.
But everytime I play this song,I'm 15 again and the world feels full off hope and the road is wide....,at least for a few minutes.♥️
初めて聞いた時から虜になった
そして、日本で撮影されたmvが日本人としてとても嬉しい😊
I look back at it now and think, weren't they beautiful and young and pretty. Like us all back then.
congratulations
Hear you ❤
Know exactly the feeling
One of the greatest rock riffs of all time. Amazing to think they were already evolved enough to produce this masterpiece on their very first album!!
The 90s was a great time for music globally...music was true, honest and sincere ... music was created not manufactured... 💞👌😊👍
To true it hurts
So true
Like someone said before here on the comments: "This song makes me feel nostalgic and I never even heard this song before."
+Felipe Bero Same. It's like I heard this song like, 20 times. I didn't know of this band since today. (unfortunately)
+Felipe Bero i love that kind of songs
The Welsh have a way of doing that; it's automatic.
Thats because you realise that you think of your childhood as a perfect place and a escape from your present. Well. Thats me anyway.. Its surely a magic tune..

My brother Lee loved this song
Sadly passed away last night

Let's pray he's with Ritchie.

Going back to feudal serf again. We have arrived, and well... we are going.
I was born in 1988 and vividly remember this song. I was only four years old, but I remember it playing on the radio all the time while I was riding in the back seat of my father's car in 1992 into 1993. I actually remember climbing the bookcase that my dad's stereo was on just to put the cassette in the stereo. So this song is special to me
Las canciones que escuchaban nuestros padres siempre se nos quedarán marcadas, sobretodo si ya no se encuentran en lo terrenal
Great comment. You paint a wonderful picture there.
One of many Welsh bands not to get the praise they deserve. Love. this song!
They have every one loves them
@@jogiedhesi2021
Except over here in the US.
They're too real and too dark and brutal for us in The States.
How do the Manics not get the praise they deserve?
They are on the the most UKs loved bands.
Reminds of the 90s so much; the best and worst decade of my life.
British musicians always create the Musical Heaven.
I Agree with you..
Not anymore unfortanately....
@Himanshu Gupta Which makes them British. Wales is part of the United Kingdom therefore making them British aswell.
@Himanshu Gupta Welsh is British ya moron

Somebody from Quarentine 2020 ? Brilliant song !!!!
yes still here 🖤
Love the manics

"Under neon loneliness motorcycle emptiness" - pure Genius
Couldn't agree more! "Under neon loneliness": lost for words ...
32 years later M.E. still gives me chills every single time.

The riff on this track is just stunning. The Manics must go down as one of the UK's greatest bands.

Still a stand out brilliant song people what do you think ?
At the end , never heard a guitar rift like it !!
Between this and CKY - Quite Bitter Beings.
One of the iconic songs of the 90s and heavily underrated .
Hmm. Very much thought the band was popular bland corporate rock at the time, although this is one of their better efforts.
Check out Hideto Matsumoto's Misery if you like this song, I play them together usually

Remembering Richey 1st February 2021. Seems like yesterday that I came home from school and heard the sad news, I’m 40 now and it was actually a lifetime away. 🥲🥀
I was in a life drawing class at Uni and my flatmate ran over to uni with the NME and waited outside the class, crying. I will never forget it either. RIP Richey xx
I heard it on the radio, I put on Radio1 as usual and it was reported on newsbeat and I looked it up on Teletext which was as current as it got back then LOL! I think I’ve still got the tribute edition of Select magazine somewhere.
I remember thinking, "He'd be back in two weeks." Sadly, I was wrong.
Richey may come back one day!😕

@@robertooda7148what song?
I took Manic Street Preachers for granted in 90s but I now realise what a quality band they are! These songs stand up its astounding!!!! Strong, complex pop with integrity, authenticity and soul.
Good comment! I've been around since they were taking off in the early 90s, and they've never lost their creative edge or consistency between the many albums they've released. Also, they've never taken a long "hiatus". Greatest band in the past 30yrs...the only acts that can compete are Texas and Sophie Ellis Bextor.
I live in HoustonTX and couldn't get much exposure to good music but through movie soundtracks or so. 30 years later just getting into MSP,.
I love Brit-Pop scene .
I’ve been a Manics fan for 25 years now and this song STILL gets me every time I hear it. It’s magic, the power of this song.

This band... so great, so underrated.
Agreed. The verve (their early stuff) the la's, and the auteurs are equally underrated
A😂❤️❤️❤️❤️q❤️❤️❤️😁
Mr Peaches Latour have to disagree there. Oasis were a rock & roll band. The Verve were what we called "shoegazers" back in the day. A proper indie band. Oasis used to support the Verve in the early days.

Richey forever love to the Manics and all their fans.

Another anthem for Wales and cracker of sentiment and gentle sorrow.
🎶🎵🎶"Under Neon Loneliness, Motorcycle Emptiness!"🎶🎵🎶
🎶🎵🎶 Under Neon Loneliness, Everlasting Nothingness!"🎶🎵🎶
Despite this song, would "Dakota" by the Stereophonics also be considered a Welsh anthem or sentiment?
@dj-um7el Wales have produced many great bands including Catatonia, Furry Animals, Stereophonics among the devastation of the Manics. Hope Wales continue to create classic music bro.
@@timothygrayson yep I know!
The Stereophonics are cool.
Though I LOVE The Manic Street Preachers, Budgie, Los Campesinos and Badfinger!!!

I was born june 1 1991, this single was released exactly one year after my birth, june 1 1992. What a birthday present!

This music video mesmerized me with the out of this world, mindblower of a song. And started my love for Japan, especially Tokyo. Just saw the Manics with Suede 10 days ago at Zepp Haneda Tokyo. Outstanding!!!
The song that got me into the Manics. Still love them over 30 years later.
One of the best bands still available to watch for under £30. Success did not get to their heads. What a fucking song.
never heard this song before. Sometimes you don´t choose the songs, they choose you.
If only the songs chose you and you didn't have to sift through bullshit
Absolutely well said!
@Iain Botham that's not cricket
Other great bands of the 1990s were The Levellers and The Verve who also made some great tunes.
And they go really well with Dino Morphers.....
You don't realise how good music is until it's gone. A generation passes an most of the stuff around now is...tripe. 90s & early 00s were the best for music
I'm usually not too bothered with music videos, but I've always loved this one. Very atmospheric
This is the greatest song by the Manic Street Preachers. It is so profound and has a great guitar solo.

Missing person : Richey Edwards. He wrote many lyrics as a member of the Manics, and went missing for good, must have been a tortured soul. A life without peace of mind is a nightmare and just exhausting. Richey was intelligent and well read, but he couldnt seem to find peace. He went missing in Feb 1995, i think he probably jumped off the Severn bridge in Wales.
Peace of mind is everything in life. I sometimes think that the saying " He who increases knowledge, increases sorrow" is actually a true saying. Because you are too aware of everything, and the more you learn the more questions you have and it can drive you mad. But who wants to live a life of ignorance ? The key is if we can transcend our personal suffering, find a balance, and recognise that the world has problems. Then we can come out the other side a new person, a person with some peace of mind and a way to live.
Life is a crazy thing sometimes, and it surprises me sometimes that more people dont have breakdowns if im honest with the way they live their lives, or maybe because they are corporate slaves in nice suits year after year, or really just because of this society that we live in in general, which is one of global inequality and exploitation. But more than anything, life can feel like a struggle for some. Thinking honestly about this world and all that goes on it in, can be hard on the mind. Life can be amazing too. Negativity is not the answer, i have seen where that has taken me in the past. If you have peace of mind, be grateful, because being happy with yourself is everything. Dont make heroes out of damaged people, even if you enjoy their contribution to the world.
+justmadeit2
Best comment. Totally correct about Richey Edwards - I remember he likes wearing skirts, but as an authentic punk, am not saying that judgementally nor critically. I came to the Manics, right from the off, the early stuff: great guitar rock and meaningful, poignant lyrics. After a period of "dropping out" squatting in London, in, amongst others, Waterloo Fire Station, where The Clash played at a party we held one night, setting fire to a VW Beetle whilst singing London's Burning ( unforgettable ), I returned to education, eventually gaining several degrees & PhD. Being knowledgeable, replete with facts, a polyglot, allegedly "intelligent" is NOT Wisdom. It's taken me over half a century to find the kind of inner peace and self-confidence you touched upon, my only regret, not having accomplished this sooner. But that is Life - and NOTHING whatsoever compares to real-life experience. I've seen and lost many along the way - great people, compassionate, giving, but concealing a sensitivity behind masks of bravado which ultimately was their undoing. Maybe my Liverpool-Irish upbringing, the alcoholism, violence, psychopathic mother pouring Castrol GTX round the house threatening to set fire to it with us still inside, a stepfather found decapitated on the main West Coast railway line, drunken father almost killing my grandfather (charged with attempted murder) has NOT hardened me but granted me a degree of perspective preparing me for this Life with its Joy and Beauty but all too often suffering and pain. Peace & Blessings, H
Cheers Howard, thanks for the reply. You make some great points. It seems like you have lived an interesting life so far. Life is a crazy thing at times, thats for sure !
:'(
dude I love this. you're 100% correct about the peace/sorrow/knowledge. It's funny because Richey's lyrics are one of the things that helped me on the way to find my peace.
Thanks :)

Out of all the UK bands that should've succeeded in America, Manic Street Preachers would be number one on the list.
America is no place for the Welsh - American Education System Proves that.
+lfc lee I don't know if I'd agree with that. Rage Against the Machine, Public Enemy, the Beastie Boys and Radiohead were very radical in their politics and they were very successful in the US. Considering that the Manics' music were a melodic cross of hard rock, punk rock and alternative rock, you'd think they'd have a chance here.
Who gives a shit about America?
The Verve and Blur deserved more imo
+RockNRoll Star It's a deal-breaker for me. If someone can't appreciate the Manics, I can't be doing with them.

This Manicstreet Preachers song Motorcycle Emptiness is a truly Amazing song probably my favourite Manicstreet Preachers song I saw Manic Street Preachers play in Dublin they were Amazing from a 59 years old Irishman fan
Been listening to this song for over 20 years; "everlasting nothingness" still gets me every time.
"Everlasting Nothingness"? 🤔 What do you mean may i ask?
Under neon loneliness,
Motorcycle emptiness,
Under neon loneliness,
Everlasting nothingness.
since you were 5

Do you know where I can find the poem - neon emptiness? Been looking for it everywhere
My mom and I were driving home after we had dinner in the city next to our home town.. This song came on and it made the car ride home one of the most comforting ones. Chatting and staring at the lights outside.
Its easy to forget just how beautiful Richey was, inside and out.
This song. This song made me pick up the guitar at 32 and learn it. The lyrics are timeless.
Wow 😮
congratulations 🥺
James Dean Bradfield underrated lead guitarist for sure
Yeah, I remember at the time one of the tribalism music rags habitually slagging him off as having no talent. I was perplexed, as he's a great voice too, as well as a fine guitarist.
He's also pretty hot.
He's one of the greats. I think because he's the singer his guitar playing doesn't get the credit it deserves. His live playing is sensational! He'd easily play lead guitar in any other band.
He is underrated vocalist for sure!
Also one of the coolest guys on earth in this video. Spirit of "James Dean" indeed ...
Still sounds fresh 27 years later
29 years old now
This song should be 100 million views.
Well, I'm a tad older than the usual fan, and a Yank. Don't even remember how I got into the Manics about ten years ago, maybe just listened to a song on RUclips or read about them in Mojo or something. Couple things I do know for sure, these guys have great songs, and James is a fantastic, unique singer. James can pack more emotion into one word than most singers can into a whole song. BTW, Mojo is a very rare (and expensive) magazine in the US, and I buy a copy every time I see one, which is seldom. It's a great magazine.
