This song is amazing. There are little things you can tell she did in order to make her voice sound the way it does. Full of emotion whether it's happy or sad. For example when she sings the line, "leave to the other girls to play" you could tell she's smiling as she says that line.
I always thought of Portishead as James bond themes on acid, whatever it was it was some of the finest music from the most musically polished decade that's ever existed. Hauntingly beautiful

Casi 30 años de este temazo y aún no pierde su esencia vanguardista. Portishead, adelantados a su época, elegantes e hipnóticos en sus melodías,vanguardistas en su propuesta como pocos.
I am from the town portishead near Bristol and without being biased this is probably the best album ever made along with pink floyd dark side of the moon.
This song is one of many that just puts me into this trance, something only pictures, smell and sound can describe not words. Its full of nostalgia and in its own warped way reminds me of everything and anything whilst also struggling to remember and just forgetting. Only a portishead song could hold me into such a bittersweet moment like that.
The 90s was the last true good era for music. Everything since the digital age has just not matched. Music of that time was timeless. Music of this generation will be forgotten in 10 years.
What an incredible piece of art perfectly performed and done here and it's definitely a pleasure to listening and watching it again and again never getting bored listening and watching it for a thousands of times over and over........Portishead did an excellent work of art....!!!!!!!
I’ve heard of Portishead but never really listened to their music. I just heard this track on someone’s stories on Instagram and WOW! I’m gonna be here a while 👌

man, the lyrics... I swear I was flirting with this maneater who admitted that who she was to me. I came as a friend but we clicked mad hard. The sexual tension was unbearable between. She said she wanted to leave her old life of making games out of men and be a good girl for good. I liked her and she liked me and we both knew it, though unsaid. But in the end she flaked out on me. I guess she's still not ready, but damn she was a piece of work
This song reminds me of being stoned, seeing the whole world as one big dream but in a good way. We were about to play live in Melbourne Aus as a support act and I was so stoned I thought my instrument was shrinking. But it was all good. Life was a never ending party. I didn't grow up in a normal way. Now the world is about to change forever, humanity is about to be shocked into a new reality. I don't think I will ever be able to shrink back to my former self. Problem is, I was happier then. Just know we all have better times coming once the truth comes out.
It feels like yesterday. Arrived in London to study, age 25. Best years of my life. Good rock bands, smoking in pubs, good friends, and parties and not a woke in sight. Happy to have been born in 1970.
Been listening to Dummy as an album to fall asleep to. I have a sleep disorder. But this, yes. Been listening to it for over two decades. Absolutely love 🖤🖤
Portishead shouldn't just be handed to those that worship the likes of Bieber, Swift and Co......this is a respected and talented group to those that have listened to them for decades! This entire album is in my top 5....Mysterons and Biscuit absolutely standouts!!!!

My goodness I love this gem. Beautifully haunting, absolute classic. Would love to have heard Amy drop her version on this. Having said that, this song is one that imo will never be be bettered by someone covering it in the same vein as “fast car” by Tracy.
I get goosebumps every time I listen to it!
especially the guitar solo at the end
Yeahh !!! 🎶👌
Hauntingly beautiful, and those melodies are incredible. What a voice.
best vocal ,best music composition i've never heard a magical music like what this band made . i don't have any word to describe this band ,i just can say marvelous
This takes me straight back to 96. I can taste and smell it like I never left.
#THECROWN this tune has been in so many diff series and movies 😱
It never gets old.
30 anni sono passati da quando è stato pubblicato questo meraviglioso brano, ma rimane sempre assai piacevole da ascoltare e riascoltare! Lei ha una voce spettacolare!
This song is literally a gem 💎
My girlfriend searched this song early Friday morning, two days ago. A few hours later she was not here and overdosed. Doesn't seem like she's coming back now. I'll never forget you Ashley, noone will ever compare to you. Take a breather, you're a fine woman and made me feel more love than ever before. I'm so glad I got to spend his time with you. Sorry about anytime you got upset or confused I know those feelings suck they don't work well on you😅 Hopefully I see you soon. Love ya chipmunk 😍😚🤗
Xoxo your cuddlebug Denni
Oh my I am so sorry to read this are you doing okay?
@@RadioPsychicAstrologyByPepper still right where I started, maybe worse. Creating the absolute worst case of codependency with an absolute selfharm threat, mood shattering, toxic, immature, broken woman you can imagine being 25 yo grew up in/around house gf died in. Yupp. Went from occasional coke, off prescription drug use to iv hatever I can get my hands on, renting our room and mattress to someone who I strngly believe to be a murderer for a little dope every week. Dove right in headstrong dickfirst. Wish me luck!
this song deserves like dozens of millions more views. No cover can beat this absolutely stunning original.
Except this is essentially a cover. It was lifted from an Isaac Hayes track.
This has that mystery, vintage edge to it that I wish more songs had
With these qualities my 90s lasted like 30 years, thanks a lot Divas
it's been ages I haven't listened Portishead, and just is still so good! Timeless
Love Portishead. True pioneers.
Also love other dark trip hoppers like Tricky, Massive Attack,, Unkle, Allflaws
Tricky IS Massive Attack lol
Kochaaam kocham kocham, tą zabawe glosem, dźwiękami, jej głos, lekki, zmysłowy i ostry. To hymn dla wszystkich kobiet 👑
What a tune. Chilling voice.
I'll never forget the first time I heard this song....I fell in love. Portishead were truly visionary with such interesting beatz. 🥶
This song is one of many that just puts me into this trance, something only pictures, smell and sound can describe not words. Its full of nostalgia and in its own warped way reminds me of everything and anything whilst also struggling to remember and just forgetting. Only a portishead song could hold me into such a bittersweet moment like that.
just discovered portishead.... love it, helps me through these down times im having
never gets old. incredibly beautiful.
Portishead - это лучшее, что я слышал в своей жизни.
Ciel ...
I’ve heard of Portishead but never really listened to their music. I just heard this track on someone’s stories on Instagram and WOW! I’m gonna be here a while 👌
This will Always remind me of the movie “The Craft” when Chris tries to attack Sarah and it starts playing right at 3:02
Her voice is just incredible.
I heard this song two decades ago in the movie “Stealing Beauty,” and it became my favorite since then. If you young people see this, I definitely suggest you this movie and it’s sound track, for they are totally awesome!
Thks , i'm 15 ans i'm young . Thks for this piece of advice
What a great song, I love it! I put it into my "Shellshocked Radio - Recommendations" List: ruclips.net/video/I4IGV5s8E84/видео.html Very well done!
I remember listening to this song, four years ago, driving in a rainy day, in London, drinking my coffee.
Awww...
Thank you so much...
Heard this track on local radio so many years ago, but didn't remember the title....
Very tasteful recording...
Just discovered portishead today. So awesome. Been missing out
I'm so tired of playing
Playing with this bow and arrow
Gonna give my heart away
Leave it to the other girls to play
For I've been a tempteress too long
Yes
Give me a reason to love you
Give me a reason to be... A woman
I just wanna be a woman
From this time unchained
We're all looking at a different picture
Through this new frame of mind
A thousand flowers could bloom
Move over and give us some room, yeah
Give me a reason to love you
Give me a reason to be... A woman
I just wanna be a woman
So don't you stop being a man
Just take a little look from outside when you can
Sow a little tenderness
No matter if you cry
Give me a reason to love you
Give me a reason to be... A woman
I just wanna be a woman
It's all I wanna be, it's all, a woman
For this is the beginning of forever and ever
It's time to move over
So I wanna be
I'm so tired of playing
Playing with this bow and arrow
Gonna give my heart away
Leave it to the other girls to play
For I've been a tempteress too long...
man, the lyrics... I guess she's still not ready, but damn she was a piece of work
Certainly one of the best songs in the entire music history
I've been listening to it since 1998 and for me this is still the most important song in their work. THANK YOU ❤
This song reminds me of being stoned, seeing the whole world as one big dream but in a good way.
Avec quel groupe pour la premiere partie ?
@@ptkr927 Vodka Party
Haven’t brought myself to listen to this since it was played at my moms funeral last year, What a great song.
Sorry for your loss.
Sorry for your loss. Stay strong
This takes me right back to the 1990's in my 20's. What a wonderful time and a wonderful song.
I actually have always had this on my playlist with the song title “Give Me A Reason”.... mind blown 🤯
Absolutely bloody BRILLIANT. When I hear this song it haunts me the rest of the day.....👿
Been listening to this for the past 100 years.
The Handmaids Tale gonna blow this bomb up again...it fucking deserves it. The early 90s...a special time for so many reasons.
thats why im here lol
@@candycyrus great show...Elizabeth Moss is a fantastic actor.
Yes🤘
Portishead shouldn't just be handed to those that worship the likes of Bieber, Swift and Co......this is a respected and talented group to those that have listened to them for decades! This entire album is in my top 5....Mysterons and Biscuit absolutely standouts!!!!
fucking true..hell yeah
Her voice is legendary 😩😩😩
I'm here cause i've bought this album in '93, when it came out, and i've never stopped listening such masterpiece!
I discovered this album and massive attack “Blue lines” album in the same week. Thank you Sheldon!!!
Music peaked in the 90s, everything else came after that was just re-work of what's already been achieved
Que temazo lpm, la musica, la letra, como canta la mina todo!
Que bueno que me encontre con este tema
Y si wey
