Love the way it’s like a parody on the smiling, clean cut, radio friendly bands of the 60’s and then descends into fun chaos at the end. Nirvana always rocked
The songs about the alienation the band feels from the fans. Who sing and love their songs but don't embrace how dark and painful they are. They cheer and sing along like they're pop stars. Blindly obsessed with something they don't understand fully. That's the parody. It goes hand in hand with the British invasion. "Oh my god, theyre so cute, i love their music!!!" And the video is highlighting just that.
And you can't even hear the fucking song over all the mindless screaming. An obvious reference to the (now historic) disturbing and pathetic displays of fans at Beatles shows. How empty, soulless, meaningless; the lives of those in histrionic, fanatical emotional meltdown during a live music performance. The Beatles clearly demonstrated how lost and broken the modern world already was, all those years ago
If they did this video in the style of a 1960 era performance, that means that it is just about as vintage to them in the 90s as Nirvana is to us now in 2024.

it's deeper than that. If it was about his fans explain the "gun" line. It sounds as if he is sending a message to someone. "Know not what it means" The build up for the song is talking about something but you never can figure it out. It's a cliff hanger song. If you read the lyrics through n through then you'll understand what I mean. Obviously the "bridge" is something completely unrelated to the actual chorus... Or is it?
@@andybiehl8364 Not really. Weezer’s first album came out almost 2 years after this video. The Buddy Holly video by Weezer was kind of a copy of this. A more appropriate thing would be to go to the Weezer video and comment: “I think this is one of nirVANA’s best live performances.”
I love how this video relates to the story behind In Bloom. In Bloom is about how people listen to and like Nirvana's songs without knowing the proper meaning behind them. All the people cheering throughout the whole video are oblivious to the whole meaning of the actual song and are cheering just because of the sound of the music and how popular the band is, not because they know what it means.

After 3 years of learning guitar and plethora of music theory and analysis, I've realized that in the end, it all comes down to sounding like yourself. And Kurt has made me realize that developing accurate technique and sticking by the rules may produce a great guitarist, but not a great musician.
Its pure energy summoned from Satan himself. Kurt just has a great aesthetic, the way he puts dead quiet parts even in the solo. Play for energy and aesthetic first and foremost, tie it to structure and logic only to make it work.
SLTS is arguably their best song to date. Definitely the only one the majority knows by name. Others were great too but none killed the charts like that one.
Can't believe it's almost 30 years since I saw this music video for the first time. Back then MTV was on 24-7 and was a really good way to find new music and to watch your fav bands. Happy days.
I like the fact that Kurt has a unique distinct voice. Has all elements of a great song, heavy rhythm accompanied by some melodic bass and drum plays and to finish it off a straight classic rock solo that's tasty. Nirvana is a perfect example of dreams that could come true if you wanted it to. The irony is Kurt did not want or wish for any of it, he just wants to play and be like any other regular musicians. What a talented individual and one hell of a great song writer. We miss you Kurt. Nirvana all the way !!! 2023 still loving this song.
I truly just want to play as well. It’s the happiest state a musician can be in; playing music. To use your emotions, thoughts, and skills to connect and uplift people, spreading messages of love and empathy for all is something indescribably special. that’s the blueprint these GOATs provided for us today. I feel a duty to keep playing and improving so I can somehow pass on to others what I’ve been given by these incredible people. Im driven by a deep inner feeling of immeasurable gratitude and respect for these artists, manifesting as a yearning need to pay forward their gifts to me and create art that resonates with others in a positive life-affirming way. Music makes us feel like we’re not alone; it connects us by showing us that there’s someone out there who gets us. Music and lyrics by Kurt and Thom demonstrates that they got through whatever strife we’re experiencing, so we can too. That’s why it’s so powerful. In my mind, It’s only right and just that I try and share with others the incredible amount of substance, comfort, meaning, and joy the Beatles, Kurt, Neil young, Radiohead, Pink Floyd, etc. have provided me in my life. They worked their asses off to create these incredibly meaningful gifts of existential experiences packaged in song form- why shouldn’t I? My my, hey hey Rock and roll is here to stay It’s better to burn out Than to fade away My my, hey hey

Ever since I was a little kid in the 90s I loved Nirvana. I always saw Kurt as this much older man rock star God. Like I couldn't ever possibly relate to him in any way. They day I turned 28 it hit me that I'm older than he will ever be. It was a weird feeling. Whenever I would see him I used to imagine the future. Now I see him and I'm reminded of my past. Life's kinda weird.
As a 90s kid who didn't grow up with Nirvana but discovered them as a teenager (through their songs and through a good MTV documentary from the mid 2000s), I love the contrast of Nirvana making it to trendy charts etc. and representing the very contrary of what the music industry was/is like.
I'm a gen Z and I fkn love nirvana! All the old music in this world that I know I love dearly. I hate music nowadays. You my friend have an amazing taste in music❤
That's what makes them Nirvana. A band and artist of their time. How huge they were & still are. So significant to fans, to pop culture and the face of the music industry at the time. He put real music back on the charts that literally ushered in the 90s. Beatles of their generation. But that voice of his, fantastic. That's what sets them apart.
they were FAR from the first edgy, weird, hard thing to come out on the airwaves at the time. They were just the next big wave at the time. It wasn't like you described, people didn't see them as 'contrary to the music industry'. If anything some saw them as the opposite, trying to take harder music and make it more 'pop'. Those people weren't wrong...

"Know not what it means" The build up for the song is talking about something but you never can figure it out. It's a cliff hanger song. If you read the lyrics through n through then you'll understand what I mean. Obviously the "bridge" is something completely unrelated to the actual chorus... Or is it?
I bet it's not about any of the bullshit anybody said in this thread.
