2:22 That sounds like a fine idea for an adventure map, you have to find your way out of a closed mall that was being renovated or closed down after you fell asleep.
what instantly came to mind for me was a Resident Evil type experience where you are kidnapped by cultists and have to escape the mall they have imprisoned you in, finding keys to raise the parking garage gates and open locked doors, all the while eliminating cultists with a plethora of weaponry, both improvised and conventional would probably make a good Fallout mod or even its own game
The lighting on this map is especially well done. It just looks so realistic. They even have the light coming off of the vending machines which gives such great contrast in the dim areas.
It's funny because I imagine you entering a friends house being like "Your room has this dark almost intriguing alure of danger and mystery as if somethings waiting for me to enter like a predator waiting to ambush its prey". Love ya brother keep up the great work
There's a map I used to play on with a friend a number of years ago called RP_Apocalypse. The title is pretty self explanatory, but it's a small urban space, surrounded by a number of smaller settlements. The map itself is pretty big. Everything is pretty much destroyed, and there's an oppressive dust hanging all around. It's been a while since I took a look at the whole thing, but the ambience is great, and there's a few secrets to be found. And there's something about one of the buildings, I think you spawn right by it, it just seems... off to me. It's like someone took two four or five story apartment buildings, put them really close together, with about a 10 foot gap between them. Normally that'd just be a walkway, but it's completely enclosed with walls and a tall ceiling, and there are windows facing each other on either side. I don't know, it just gave me chills when I briefly revisited it. Just make sure you use RP_Apocalypse if you decide to take a look at it. There's a sandbox version but it's *much* less stable.
It's a cool map but a lot of the structures don't have insides with anything really in it. The structures are also really far apart but it adds to the barren sensation it gives off. The RP version reduces the amount of props on the map significantly but hey still a great map overall.
Damn by how many times you've told us your fears in map design and all that throughout your videos... someone should make a map based on them.. "The Librarian's Nightmare"
It would be funny if someone made that and framed it as if it was for this guy, but it was actually just meant for the profession. Like, idk, all the books on the shelves are all written in and still have bookmarks in them and such
I live by a dead mall too. When I was a kid, it was hugely popular and my grandmother took me and my brother there often. It had a rock climbing activity and even some sort of carousel in the middle of the food court, there was a laser tag arena... its really sad to see that its barely holding on anymore. The only reason its still around is because of its only anchor, Rural King.
I live by the largest mall in canada, West Edmonton Mall, at nighttime when you go see a movie the mall closes and you can walk through it, it’s an overwhelming feeling to understand that one day it too will be a dead mall. Also if you haven’t seen pictures of it it’s awsome!
i no longer live in the area so i'm namedropping it, but i used to go to the westside pavilion when i was a really small kid with my older brother. eventually he passed, and then a few years later the mall itself pretty much closed. in that gap of time though, where it was still open but my brother was gone, i don't think i've ever been more unsettled. last i heard google's trying to do something with it now to turn it into an office.
You missed a favorite part of the map. The part that everybody talks about, that’s comfy. The break room. 14:43 Down that hall and in that door is the break room. It’s the most comfy area here.

I once had a dream/nightmare where I was stuck and wandering an endless underground parking lot just like the one in this map. There seemed like no rhyme or reason to the design or layout. It was all bare concrete. It was dimmly lit by flourescent lights, but not dark enough where you couldn't see where you were going. There were no cars anywhere. Throughout my entire dream, I felt like there was a presence following me. I never actually saw it, but I felt like something was there. The entire dream/nighmare was like that until I woke up. Never had it again since, but it's one of my more memorable dreams/nightmares. *Note: The reason I say dream/nightmare instead of just nightmare is because I don't really consider it a nightmare. I did find it uncomfortable, but not terrifying. I definitely feel a weird combination of comfortable/unhinged
look that ain't got nothin on Danny DeVito walking out of a meth lab with a shopping cart full of "nose Candy" and Rocks on gm_construct. sells half of it, and then some like cultists??? they may have ben necromancers and i think there were 3. come out and steal the rest of it after teleporting behind DeVito a few times and trying to slug him and succeeding bringing Danny down to their like Dungun???? with cells and stuff. then i woke up does this have meaning please help
I'm glad to hear that nothing happened in your dream ightmare also if you see the Nico's nextbot roblox game you would have a nightmare about being chased by them
Ayy, my favorite GMOD map to test Enemy and Ally AI. The realism of the map is really good to combine with realism mods to have an 'other game' experience.
I've explored it my self previously and honestly its both comfortable like being in a place where you know its in a city but its uncomfortable because it looks old and abounded and it feels like that humans left the city or something similar. The lighting also is really well detailed and how they lit up things like vending machines or the bathroom. Also the jokes on the signs referencing photoshop goes to show they did care enough to put effort into fully texturing it instead of leaving a blank spot.
I can't really afford a VR set at the moment, so watching your videos is really scratching that itch. There really isn't a channel I can think of that is doing what you do. Keep up with the spooky and comfy content!
I've worked night shift at a callcenter located on the top floor of a mall. My daily commute ended and started with a walk through a liminal wonderland. Wonder if I still have the pictures here somewhere.
[6:20] The ""door"" is openable. You just gotta smash into it. (I used the term "door" because Im eauropean and my english skills arent perfect. please dont judge me)
There’s a mall near me that is always fluctuating in use, so one end will be busy and full of stores, but turn the corner and it’s just empty stores and old posters.
gm_watertower might be a cool map for a quick multi-map video. it has water in it and is liminal in geometry... constrast 2.0 (gm_constrast_2) is also a very cool map to explore, it's set in a comfy city, although the architecture sort of contradicts the vibe...
This makes me want to cough up the money for VR. It makes me realize that even if I don't have enough room in my room for things like SUPER HOT VR or Beat Sabre, that each Garry's Mod map has the potential for VR capability, and could very well serve to be it's own unique world to explore. That may well be worth it's weight in gold for me.
Something that also blows my mind, this map is so big and complex, that it fits perfectly in my cell phone's memory to explore it and run from horrifying nextbots in an application. This map is I think the 5th and it is excellent
You know, I actually had come up with a very similar story for a concept album! There's this old mall I remember from my youth that shut down pretty soon after the big 2000s market crash, and I themed it around some kid putting his walkman on and suddenly being thrown into the mall abandoned in present day. What a cool map, and awesome vid!
I gotta say, that Subway at the beginning would be pretty impractical without any fridges for the ingredients in front of the customer. Other than that, this seems a lot like the intro to Silent Hill 3 with like you said, waking up in the bathroom and being stuck after hours.
You release so consistently with one of my favorite games and one of my favorite subjects. Doing this in VR is a much different experience then in the 2D space. All of this is fantastic. Do you have any opinions on Concrete Playground? It's.. otherworldly.
@@PurpleColonel Yep, I should have provided the usual stigma of gm concrete_playground. It's not a very big map and you could almost say it's just another source map that has large blocks and odd areas for the sake of being random, but to me, it's either like an advanced civilization or a government testing site. None of it feels natural. I find it's one of the best maps to run AI pathing on.
When I see parking lots like this I can only think of the Seinfeld episode where they couldn't remember where they parked, got lost for multiple hours, and Jerry got arrested for pissing on a wall.
It is maybe intentionnal (or not) but this electric humming sound is also the sound that plays when the Soundscapes doesn't work properly (probably missing soundscape file).
I just started watching your videos, and I really love that you cover gmod maps and talk about them. Especially with this video, I love that you not only have a personal experience having been to a mall that’s not had anyone there late at night, but that you also talk about what feels comforting and ominous within malls. For me, I don’t think I would see myself being somewhere by myself, especially if it’s a huge place, or a room with a lot hallways. Also, I’ve also been getting that feeling that someone, or something might jump out to get you, and that feeling rises more whenever I see you turn corners haha. But yeah, that’s just how I feel, but regardless of that, I love seeing you explore these kinds of maps. And you’re so close to 60k subs dude! Hopefully your weekend is going well
There's something about this guy's content that I can't describe. It feels, in a way, truly genuine. Its like a liminal space, you can't really define it. All I can say is that I enjoy the content you produce.
This really reminded me of an episode of the original Thunderbirds series, "City of Fire," which involved the maintanence tunnels and parking garage below a city-sized skyscraper that was burning down. My headcanon is that you're somewhere like that in this map.
This is my new favorite channel. Your content is so intriguing yet so relaxing. Your making me look at Garrys mod maps in a way I’ve never seen them before. Keep up the excellent work!!
i love your experience footage of this map, i came here to know the name of this exactly map to study and know it as my hand because the most sacriest thing is this map and being chased by nextbots here but this, this map... to BIG, to open and close in other parts, very complex and i can't find the sense of direction anywhere, or understand it, i thought since the first time getting here, i'd need a diagram map of this too
The visual realism in this map is top notch. I would put it up there with Union City and Southside in that regard. I have explored this quite a bit, but I don’t recall finding that server room. Crazy that there is so much stuff here. Also, keeping up the suggestion for Xanthys, as a personal favorite creepy map.
ℹ️ 🔍 02:10 There's actually nothing at the other side of that barricade, just a few "levitating" things to complete the illusion for the player. 08:14 Yes, those things can't be jumped over to go up where that escalator leads. There's actually nothing up there, just an empty dark corner. Also, that button is just for decoration. 08:32 There's a pallet of four rolls of something, which holds that tarp out. If you noclip inside, there's a small empty concrete room. 04:40 That can't be opened, just a small storage with a stepladder in it, nothing else. 05:34 That can't be opened neither ‒ just some sort of kitchen. 05:52 You can't go through there, for some unknown reasons. That's just a storage area. 09:45 Yup, there's an invisible wall for block the player. But if you noclip trough, there's a russian message over the corner. I've explored the whole map. Well, it gets a little bit uncomfortable after a while, isn't it? 😐 Also, the electrical hum is just in the small mall area, everywhere else is just silence. One lift can be used between the top floor and the bottom floor (excluding the middle floor) in the parking area, but that's it...
Another suggestion would be any of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. maps ported over by NuclearGhost on the workshop. Limansk Hospital is my personal favorite but they're all fantastic.
Finally beat you to one of these maps! This map gave some weird feelings especially going into the parking lot. You'd find random little tidbits sprinkled around the map. I was driving around and found a little nook where there was the garages. I don't know what it was but it felt really weird cause I didn't expect to find anything but just found it. I can't describe the feeling of it.
15:00 About this, What about a big warehouse at night? When all the workers have left, you climb one of the tall shelving racks and sleep under the aluminum roof with rain hitting it above you? At my workplace, we have one of these warehouse halls we store parts at, and when it gets to about 4 o clock right before everyone goes home, the warehouse section is just lit up with a few dim lights and it's always very quit in there, besides the distant sounds of the mechanic's working of tools and the radio in the other hall. I've always found that weirdly calming when I had to grab a used part before ending the workday.
I played this map 3 days ago and after that went to search if you did a video on it... Well, to my surprise you just did! Thanks for this coincident! 🤣
i love this map. me and my friends came up with a gamemode called nextbot free for all and we usually play on this map. its terrifying when you are worried someone is gonna shoot you around a corner only for you to hear faint whispering behind you. i also love the hanging barney and impaled grigori easter egg that triggered halfway in a round we did.
a guy shiting and almost having a heart attack at sight of his own reflection in the mirror and then not flinching when seeing abomination running at him, that's my description of this channel
I am really curious to see the video of you and your cousin at the mall with the scream if you can find it, seems like an interesting video. I'd like to think if I were in that situation that I'd try to figure out who was screaming and try to go help them but it's easy to say something like that from the comfort of my little office setup. Hope nobody got hurt
Seconded, was a little dissapointed it wasn't shown or mentioned again. Like I would understand if he didn't want to/couldn't find it, I just want to know.
9:48 you can noclip through the invisible wall and you could see a funny russian text that says: if you got scared you need to send the picture to your 10 friends and they will be scared too.
Hi lib it's me again, I still wasn't socializing on Discord for now and even i still haven't got Garry's mod yet. So back to this topic, well this map was my request for you too back in your older videos if you haven't seen it yet. I got a very unnerving feeling of playing this map just like how the surrounding looks like and you can only hear a single emit of sound coming from the lights, just likethe Liminality of Shlup's Liminal space or the Gm_shambles. It might tell you that something happened here unknowingly before you came to this place that you need to explore or find evidence
Hey you're almost Offline in on the Discord i remember ya, and yeah you could feel the Liminality of these maps but sometimes we can say it's creepy or not
This is scarily similar to what Vinny Vinesauce had experienced when he explored ths map, and I think he lives in Staten Island and even went to the same mall you mentioned! Small world huh?
One map I haven't seen mentioned (although I don't look at the comments too much) is rp_belowground, an expansive underground map with 2 small lit up towns, and a sprawling network of tunnels and abandoned rooms between them. There's also a scripted tracked truck that moves between them, and tours through most of the different areas of the map. There's an admin room that can be used to spawn NPCs as well, such as HL2 rebels, zombies, and such, although it makes the map feel less abandoned and creepy.
Here in Germany you will find cutouts like that in some stores. Its often a seperated area of the store specializing into certain products, like toiletry or drinks.
They really mean it, they WILL turn your pizza inside out, you don't want that happening, trust me, it's unforgettable, devastating and damn right out of order.
I've played this map and i don't know if it did happen or i'm just going insane but i remember jumping off the catwalks next to the opened door that closes, i saw some type of silhouette walking towards the gas tanks or stuff for a split second before it disappeared. Spooky.

I love this map maan
It's relaxing, but somewhere scary too
how can i download it
You release so consistently with one of my favorite games and one of my favorite subjects. Doing this in VR is a much different experience then in the 2D space. All of this is fantastic. Do you have any opinions on Concrete Playground? It's.. otherworldly.
Is concrete playground a gmod map?
You should Try out "Garry's mall" it's not a spooky Liminal map, But just [VERY] interesting and Detailed.
If you're new on this map, yes, then it's creepy, but after exploring it for the 20th time, it's actually pretty chill
I fully agree with your thoughts on the back areas of the market, they creep me out.
5:21 Man I was hoping to see this video
hi, can u make the haunted hotel b2? also when is ur birthday?
ℹ️ 🔍
02:10 There's actually nothing at the other side of that barricade, just a few "levitating" things to complete the illusion for the player.
Also, the electrical hum is just in the small mall area, everywhere else is just silence. One lift can be used between the top floor and the bottom floor (excluding the middle floor) in the parking area, but that's it...
you ignored the guy who hides inside a room and starts crying
yes, there is a part of the map where this happens
@@ola9234 there is?
Another suggestion would be any of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. maps ported over by NuclearGhost on the workshop. Limansk Hospital is my personal favorite but they're all fantastic.
horror map elements: decently spooky
horror map elements + The Librarians commentery on them: terrifying.
The worst thing than a Empty parking area and a Parking area with only one car is
A parking area full of cars, but no people
Finally beat you to one of these maps!
I've always found that weirdly calming when I had to grab a used part before ending the workday.
you dont know how excited I got when I saw the Bepis machine
I played this map 3 days ago and after that went to search if you did a video on it... Well, to my surprise you just did! Thanks for this coincident! 🤣
This is the most unnerving and eerie map I’ve played
9:45 the Librarian now knows how it feels to be a trapped guest in RollerCoaster Tycoon
Unfortunately, he propesedly forgot to add his "scream in the mall" bit.
most of the metal doors, and those entrances that are covered by the white transparent strips (5:51) are places you can access if on flatscreen.
i love this map. me and my friends came up with a gamemode called nextbot free for all and we usually play on this map. its terrifying when you are worried someone is gonna shoot you around a corner only for you to hear faint whispering behind you. i also love the hanging barney and impaled grigori easter egg that triggered halfway in a round we did.
easily the best detailed map ive ever seen
a guy shiting and almost having a heart attack at sight of his own reflection in the mirror and then not flinching when seeing abomination running at him, that's my description of this channel
Finally, a map that I've actually played before watching a Librarian video.
The mall looks very ominous just being you and the ambience.
9:48 you can noclip through the invisible wall and you could see a funny russian text that says: if you got scared you need to send the picture to your 10 friends and they will be scared too.
i love seeing the abandoned/under construction back areas of malls, they feel so beautifully apocalyptic.
The librarian never showed the footage of him and his friend hearing the screaming
3:40 lmao, I live in that red roof inn
The level of detail and realism in this map is really impressive.
There's an admin room that can be used to spawn NPCs as well, such as HL2 rebels, zombies, and such, although it makes the map feel less abandoned and creepy.
i love this kind of roaming you did in this video. very slow and well spoken to explain your emotions on each part. great job!
Looked up the map on youtube after playing it. Needless to say, Amazing Content, You've got yourself a new sub!
Im so happy to have found your channel, always excited for new videos :)
*It’s creepy if you spawn quandel dingle to chase you.*
When I'm falling in VR, I just squint really hard and that seems to do the trick for me
You should tell more scary stories about things you've experienced
I love putting on your videos in the background
This feels comfy to me already it's sorta enclosed and your by yourself but in a peaceful and quiet way to me
That electrical hum ambient sound is one of the most classic ones in Gmod ‒ it used in so many maps, even in really old ones! 🇬 Ah, memories... 😏
I hope the creators continue to update the VRMod I’m enjoying it
you ignored the guy who hides inside a room and starts crying. Yes, there is a part of the map where this happens
Yesss i love this stuff! Dude this is gunna make my day i can already tell lol
Here in Germany you will find cutouts like that in some stores. Its often a seperated area of the store specializing into certain products, like toiletry or drinks.
This map feels weird without hearing "WHAT'S UP GUYS QUANDALE DINGLE HERE"
They really mean it, they WILL turn your pizza inside out, you don't want that happening, trust me, it's unforgettable, devastating and damn right out of order.
I also live on Long Island, and whenever i go to the source mall i always think of your videos!!
Yay More Gmod Vr videos thanks The Libation :) 👍
Lmao I always liked going through a back hallway or seeing the back or just going somewhere I’m not allowed to go normally
Played this map, and knew you would do a video on it.
Half expecting Obunga to slide up behind him on this map.
I remember when Vinny played this, good vibes then and good vibes now.
Dead Rising 1 in VR would be amazing
I've played this map and i don't know if it did happen or i'm just going insane but i remember jumping off the catwalks next to the opened door that closes, i saw some type of silhouette walking towards the gas tanks or stuff for a split second before it disappeared. Spooky.
man, you tell some good stories
