AFAIK some youtuber decided one day to turn the cave noises into a mob, it was mildly interesting, and opened the floodgates for metric tons of poorly-made garbage ripoffs to flood the internet because subtlety is best spelled with 12-foot neon lettering. that's why most of the mods were just "The _____ Dweller" because originality is dead so let's just rip off the cave dweller but do it worse.
the guy who made cave dweller originally is actually Gargin who is the same guy who also made gargitron, that one gmod nextbot that had like more complex ai so itd try to hide from you and stuff and would play ambient sounds to indicate when it was nearby, which then lead to a random boom and resurgence in people making shittons of really lazy gmod nextbot addons. really funny that by sheer coincidence he made two different decently cool and interesting things for two entirely separate games that then ended up spawning massive subgenres of just really awful unoriginal copycats

the moment everything started looking at you, i IMMEDIATELY understood the issue. the paranoia mod ur using freezes entities so theyll look at you, which makes most hostile mobs unable to hit you, and makes them float if they leave the ground. caused a lot of flying spiders when i used it also its causing the "strange lag" and the random item dropping
Can't imagine how annoyed the original creator of The Cave Dweller is for the fact that for a second time, something he made got copy and pasted so much that it flooded the mod sites with slop.
@theorixlol2018 He made a popular video about GMOD Nextbots and he created his own in a similar vein of the Cave Dweller. Sadly, like the dweller, people basically copied his nextbot and flooded the steam workshop with the same nextbot but with a different image
ok but i dont know about you guys but i think its kind of annoying when people make cave dweller clones and call it "better cave dweller." saying its "better" just doesnt feel right. sure they add some improvements, but just call it cave dweller+ or cave dweller remastered. calling it the "better" version feels like an insult to the original creator

I love how all of these have their characters: the Top dweller is probably a suspicious Russian guy, the Pumpkinhead dweller tries its best to scare you but fails inevitably, John is probably a single father, and Herobrine is too shy to actually do anything
Box of Horrors is actually pretty great, but we didn't get to see it here because they put way more thought into each mob they added so that none of them are "makes images appear and plays scary sound at 400% volume" lol
the mix between being harassed by "scary" mobs that can't do anything to you and being harassed by "scary" mobs that kill you instantly was funny as shit, one of the best minecraft videos i've seen on this site

Random inaudible whispers that sound like they’re panicking freak me out lol, and there’s a ton of stuff the mod does. One of which is randomly jumpscare you, and some of those images are gore :/. The title of this video is exactly what is happening with the "horror" modding scene in Minecraft and is making me laugh so much. Like, as far as I noticed, none of those mods made you feel genuinely scared without depending on one-shots or jumpscares, they are all so cheap.

I remember watching a demo video for it and it looked pretty spooky, had some cool unique mobs and good ambiance imo. Sad to see it get ruined with whatever the man from hell man mod is, seriously whoever made that should not have been allowed to cook 💀
Box Of Horrors is actually pretty good too, though it moreso focuses on adding horror characters as opposed to being "scary" but it is done well. that is where the Spinel Ore came from, it is used to trade with a villager to get certain items to spawn a few of the mobs (Sonic EXE and Ben Drowned, for example)
There were probably a couple of mods that actually built tension and were good but they took too long or were overshadowed by the screamers and instakill mobs
The Men from Hell beating the hell out of the player and rushing out the Nether Portal to continue beating the heck out of the player are perfectly complimented by Bouldergeist's theme. And then hearing the faster phase 2 version kick in when the Men From Hell return from hell with a vengeance in the End was amazing. Best bits in the video for me.
I love how the scariest part by far is how the game client is shitting itself trying to load all this cruft; the weird lag that takes away inventory and leaves mobs no longer subject to gravity is a downright bizarre twist on an otherwise cringe comedy fest. It almost feels like, past being haunted by a malevolent spirit, the game itself is mad at you for how much trash you've installed.

Ruin minecraft with too many structure mods. Though i mostly expect it just being you looting a lot of structures, not exactly ruining it. Also the amount of HORRIBLE horror mods are just making me question the sanity of their creators, like the only one that was actually scary in this video was the silence who said there is still time
idk if that would work that well, the ruining minecraft with structure mods. i mean, on one hand, imo most structure mods kinda already ruin it since they're usually common and dont fit well, but aside from that, i expect most modern structure mods to use jigsaw structures which have settings that should space things out, and if they're not spaced out they will just end up overwriting eachother anyway

Man From Hell is so funny because it managed to sabotage the only mod that had legs. A nightmarish fleshscape that you only have a chance to enter when you sleep. And a completely separate mod two-shots you and boots you instantly. It's hilarious. The "You're still on time" thing might also be interesting because it's so surreal, but idk what that was.
I love horror mods made by children and what they believe is peak terror. Same with old GMod horror maps, complete with shitty jpeg jumpscares of course. Yes, a badly modeled black lanky guy jumping at you and killing you instantly is very very scary and NOT just annoying!

honestly my biggest takeaway from the litany of bad mods (aside from John mod ❤) is that all the mobs will randomly stare at you occasionally. idk what mod adds that but I really love it! I probably wouldn't notice it straight away, but knowing a cow from 50 blocks away & a pig standing right next to me are looking at me is eerie asf
During the beginning, the fan mods made after the Cave Noises mod were actually well made and attempted to improve upon the concept. Things like that can't last forever though, the slop always follows the feast. The man from hell has to be one of the best mods, he's just... everywhere.

I love the dichotomy in these mods of the black sky and music box or every mob freezing in place and staring directly at you as the game goes dead silent, and then there’s The Red Eye Barry and Flamingo.png
Hear me out: the real horror mods are the "parasite" mods. I can't handle the creepy crawlies or the fungus growing in things. They're always growing stronger, and the fear of it getting too strong is always appearant.
Scape and Run is probably the ur-example of this. Doesn't jumpscare you with pngs either. It's terrifying and intentionally unfair; essentially putting your world on a timer, because unless you mod heavily to put yourself on par with the parasites (which is sort of the intention) it's only a countdown until the parasites get access to a juicy supply of mobs and start multiplying in the caves. It's a build-up of dread that starts slow and goes out of control if you neglect it, but basically is impossible to actually stop.
a mix of mobs staring at the player and the game freezing in such a weird way (at least temporarily, making the player doubt whether it was a mod or not instead of having to re-load from a glitch) is *very* ominous. even seeing a random creative player flying in the sky, but instead of them coming towards you they fly away
Its very likely the image he censors is gore . Cheap horror relies on shock , so its not unusual for most garbage games to have images of real life victims , altough I haven't seen this yet in Minecraft , only in "indie horror" games . BTW , there was a very bad horror game that used an actual 911 phone call where the caller gets attacked , so that's great (sarcasm)

the moment everything started looking at you, i IMMEDIATELY understood the issue. the paranoia mod ur using freezes entities so theyll look at you, which makes most hostile mobs unable to hit you, and makes them float if they leave the ground. caused a lot of flying spiders when i used it

The title of this video is exactly what is happening with the "horror" modding scene in Minecraft and is making me laugh so much. Like, as far as I noticed, none of those mods made you feel genuinely scared without depending on one-shots or jumpscares, they are all so cheap.

@from_no_where i played with it once, it spawns very frequently in every non overworld dimension, it was so funny but so unplayable
Box Of Horrors is actually pretty good too, though it moreso focuses on adding horror characters as opposed to being "scary" but it is done well. that is where the Spinel Ore came from, it is used to trade with a villager to get certain items to spawn a few of the mobs (Sonic EXE and Ben Drowned, for example)
It’s a great mod, it’s just the man from hell or whatever ruined it because it just spawned everywhere
There were probably a couple of mods that actually built tension and were good but they took too long or were overshadowed by the screamers and instakill mobs
The Men from Hell beating the hell out of the player and rushing out the Nether Portal to continue beating the heck out of the player are perfectly complimented by Bouldergeist's theme. And then hearing the faster phase 2 version kick in when the Men From Hell return from hell with a vengeance in the End was amazing. Best bits in the video for me.
I love how the scariest part by far is how the game client is shitting itself trying to load all this cruft; the weird lag that takes away inventory and leaves mobs no longer subject to gravity is a downright bizarre twist on an otherwise cringe comedy fest. It almost feels like, past being haunted by a malevolent spirit, the game itself is mad at you for how much trash you've installed.
All the passive mobs staring at you is a clever idea and a bit uncanny.

idk if that would work that well, the ruining minecraft with structure mods. i mean, on one hand, imo most structure mods kinda already ruin it since they're usually common and dont fit well, but aside from that, i expect most modern structure mods to use jigsaw structures which have settings that should space things out, and if they're not spaced out they will just end up overwriting eachother anyway

Man From Hell is so funny because it managed to sabotage the only mod that had legs. A nightmarish fleshscape that you only have a chance to enter when you sleep. And a completely separate mod two-shots you and boots you instantly. It's hilarious. The "You're still on time" thing might also be interesting because it's so surreal, but idk what that was.

honestly my biggest takeaway from the litany of bad mods (aside from John mod ❤) is that all the mobs will randomly stare at you occasionally. idk what mod adds that but I really love it! I probably wouldn't notice it straight away, but knowing a cow from 50 blocks away & a pig standing right next to me are looking at me is eerie asf
During the beginning, the fan mods made after the Cave Noises mod were actually well made and attempted to improve upon the concept. Things like that can't last forever though, the slop always follows the feast.

Hear me out: the real horror mods are the "parasite" mods. I can't handle the creepy crawlies or the fungus growing in things. They're always growing stronger, and the fear of it getting too strong is always appearant.
Scape and Run is probably the ur-example of this. Doesn't jumpscare you with pngs either. It's terrifying and intentionally unfair; essentially putting your world on a timer, because unless you mod heavily to put yourself on par with the parasites (which is sort of the intention) it's only a countdown until the parasites get access to a juicy supply of mobs and start multiplying in the caves. It's a build-up of dread that starts slow and goes out of control if you neglect it, but basically is impossible to actually stop.

a mix of mobs staring at the player and the game freezing in such a weird way (at least temporarily, making the player doubt whether it was a mod or not instead of having to re-load from a glitch) is *very* ominous. even seeing a random creative player flying in the sky, but instead of them coming towards you they fly away

Cheap horror relies on shock , so its not unusual for most garbage games to have images of real life victims , altough I haven't seen this yet in Minecraft , only in "indie horror" games .
