Sometimes I look down my shorts and get megalophobia
Bro 😭
I think the correct term your looking for is the opposite of megalophobia
More like microlophobia
relatable
*microphobia
I want this to just be a mod where your walking in a normal minecraft world and all of the sudden you just see in the distance a larger then life pointless structure
Back in Alpha with the enormous brick pyramids that existed for no reason
That'll be almost like Terraria
It kinda feels like that almost fits the surreal atmosphere of Minecraft...
@AnEmptyInkwell lol, why ?
@Abyss_HeartedTerraria genuinely can't do this though, because although there certainly are random cool structures and large bosses, there's never anything absolutely megalithic, and even if there was you wouldn't be able to appreciate it because the 2D perspective would make it impossible to actually see enough of it to get that feeling, since you cant really see things "in the distance".
That chicken... 'jumpscare' was absolutly beautiful, man
poetic even
^^very poetic
Best part of the videp
Nah, should have been a jockey
We need a greenscreen video of it
Bro has a nasa supercomputer as a pc 😭
Is yours a potato
How
@GottaLove-Horses he's being more specific, so in that way I think his sentence is perfectly fine.
Careful, you'll shock your johnnys off.
@GottaLove-Horses pc stands for personal computer it makes sense either way
I actually find the wheat field of build 6 scarier than the build, the way it stretches to seemingly infinity is somehow more megalophobic than the arch
Agree
Yeah, portal 2 end scene vibes
@bjorn0909I was just about to comment that!
Agreed, but for a wildly different reason. The way the wheat just stops immediately at the threshold of the arch is really ominous. Realistically it would grow a little ways inside before not getting enough sunlight, but here it just ends instantly
I got the same feeling, reminds me of the end of Portal 2
Imagine a mod that creates a new biome with randomly generated, interconnected architecture and rooms, that spans for thousands of blocks, vertically and horizontally, like the megastructure from "BLAME!"
thats possible, since a guy did smt similar when making a back rooms mod
blame is good
"BLAME!" mentioned? holy shit i gotta go read those again
funny you mention that lol, cuz i stg this video actually stalking me. i made one of the manga panels from BLAME! last week with these mods. that large bridge at the beginning. its gargantuan
I can't imagine living in a world of blame, imagine walking in a huge room with the diameter of the jupiter
I feel like a big reason why scale starts to feel like it doesn’t matter when things get too big is because there isn’t something to compare it to. With some cinematography and some tall mountains that look tiny in comparison this could look insanely megalophobic.
or cool!!
Yeah I think so too, like how at 10:35, the tree's give a good since of scale for the pyramid and make it look much larger, in contrast to if it was on a flat world
Scale is also harder to convey in a 2D screen.. the Burj Khalifa's height is way more crazy in real life.
The MSU
Megalophobia? Like sands under trail?
i think adding small things inside those builds would emphasize their size a lot more, especially with the holes. something to remind you that its huge
like a door, or walkway or something
Agreed! I thought the wheat one worked well to show scale, but yeah it’d be very helpful to show scale with normal things on these giant structures. Really makes you feel insignificant, which is cool
im sure some people have done it already but it would be cool to make like a town around it like Made In Abyss
ahhh you're right dang shoulda done that
@Thr1teI think adding a foggy shader would also significantly help, rather than the buildings just cutting off due to render distance, they look inconceivably large with the fog obscuring rough edges
Bros still alive
had to come back for a sec
also first comment
@Thr1te for a sec 💀
@Thr1te (before anyone responds to this i wrote this reply before i finished the video)
do you plan on doing any more single biome world hardcore vids?
also what did you think of the mc movie teaser lmao
@Thr1te Oh hey Taco.
Totem of undying
I was watching this on my phone with my headphones in and walking by my front door when the knocking sound happened. I live in the middle of nowhere, so it scared the SHIT out of me.
That's why I don't want to live in the middle of nonwhere
Same Broo!! T_T
I was in my room and it came from near my window. My heart is in my ears.
I just shat myself too, lying in bed with my right ear facing my exterior wall... At 11pm, wasn't fun
I went to the comments immediately after hearing it, just to see if anyone had said anything about it
I'm not sure if I have megalophobia but, the reason why I'm just kinda terrified of big structures is the thought of them collapsing suddenly on me
As someone with megalophobia, this is a common symptom of megalophobia
remember, if it hasnt collapsed yet, it wont collapse for no reason🤫🧏♂️
@DiggyPT bug what if my presence causes it to collapse
I have that fear too. Trucks terrify me sometimes, and it's because they can move. Trains, airplanes and ships too. These things are crazy.
@0makine- not a real phobia so you can't really say "as someone with"
- no it's not a symptom it's common survival instinct to be wary around large things because we have been wiped out by collapsing natural structures many times.
I've never jumped so badly to that knocking sound effect in my life. I literally turned my head to look to my right and gasped, even though its just a wall.
Ong
I have a window there, (I live on second floor) and I was scared as fuck
no bec like wtf
👽
same holy fucking shit. it was a glass-knock sound and my headphone was slightly back which moved the sound to exactly where a window is
That knock at 1:01 almost made me go and actually check my door.
Dude same
it's 2 am and I'm alone, so yeah I jumped out of my chair and almost shat myself.
This --shit-- gave me a panic attack
@sylvestresl same XD
I almost fucking died and went to check it
Clicked on this a little too quick…
Same bro
what do you mean?
Bro had a neuron activation (same)
same lmaooo
Uh what does it mean
I would love a horror mod that just adds these to your world, and when you are near them all ambience stops to make a really creepy vibe. it would be so fun with friends
For me, what makes megalophobia hit the most is when it's an unrealistically large object surrounded by regular sized objects. Its why my favorite parts of this video are when the builds are placed in a regular world. They just look out of place and its unsettling yet fascinating
It's because without the reference, your brain has no way of determining scale. It's like he showed with the pyramids, it just looks close up
Same here! Give me the shivers. I do actually have megalophobia, so there's anxiety mixed in with fascination. In a fun way though. lol
describing liminal space as stressful melancholy is actually so accurate I love it so much
That knock audio on 1:00 felt like it didn't even come from the video, i even removed my headset and asked who was knocking, left me kinda spooked. Then i realized it was in the video.
I fucking jumped bro
The direction was right from my window too at 2am 😂
I got so scared. Even after the third time replaying it it still sounds real.
It scared the hell out of me
I thought my sister is knocking through my wall
the most megalophobic thing in the video for me was the wheat field imo. just stretching out endlessly with nothing else in sight was creepy af
"Stressful Melancholy"
Thank you, I had this feeling for years and couldn't define it.
the coffee on no sleep describes it for me
imagine you hop on with the bros and you say "I did a little building offline" and just have one of these in the world
5:41 that was way scarier than it had to be 😂
My heart rate won't drop back to its resting rate after seeing something like that
3:18 analog horror be like
The brick structure in the wheat field is definitely my favourite, like you said it gives off super strong liminal space vibes as well!
that remind me of the map called grassland on garry's mod
@Rednekdashits almost def based on the gmod map. Or the other way around. The structure is like, identical
@imonshrooms6866the map is called gm_flatgrass, the picture with the woman is just an edited screenshot
@imonshrooms6866 it literally IS the building from gmod lol
@imonshrooms6866 it literally IS the building from gm_flatgrass.. Gmod for the win
the last building is actually fire, the way its built upside-down gives it a mystic feel like it defies physics and natural laws
its like an ancient monolith in praise of a god whose name was forgotten by time
honestly it was my favorite, it feels like an ancient thing with a purpose lost to time, built by whoever came before. i would LOVE a mod that just adds in this kinda stuff to the game, along with lore and quests to tie in to the builds
It reminded me of something H.P. Lovecraft described: a conical temple worshipping Azathoth, ran by an alien race of insectoid creatures. In my mind it's an inverted cone the size of a city, hollowed out with architecture and sitting in orbit around a planet
eva angel vibes
5:29 Ikea ahh vibes 💀💀
As a Swede I can confirm that it's true
Nice
3008
the fake knocking scared the shit out of me 😭🙏
SAMEEE
14:40 looks like pillars holding up the sky
14:55 could go hard as a Minecraft painting.
ngl theyd all go hard
1:00 every TIME I hear that stupid knocking sound, I jump. I know that my door doesn't sound like that, but it STILL gets me.
same
same, especially because my door is on the right side
literally almost shit my pants
Holy shit same, I actually jumped a little.
One of my friends has a stream deck and he keeps playing this sound through discord VC...
11:14 this guy accidentally recreated the fucking LIBRARY OF HALO, WITH THE GODDAMN TERMINAL IN THE MIDDLE AND ALL, WITH THE BRIDGE TOO
ALL I NEED IS A DAMN HOLOGRAPHIC RING IN THE MIDDLE
“Stressful Melancholy” is an incredibly good way of describing megalophobia/liminal stuff
I think the more established word he's searching for is the philosophical term "sublime."
@bip3587How so?
9:29 this is probably my favourite build, because the moment you enter, everything just.. stops. Nothing grows inside of this huge arch, it's just empty, desolate, dormant.
*You are not in Minecraft anymore.*
Yeah your in gmod
bro thought he was shakespeare
@okok-tf8rr these are not big words ...
Fortnite?
10:40 "WhY ISnt It SalaD."
1:00 the knocks genuinely made my ass think there is someone knocking my wall
1:56 You should really do the “Minecraft But I Battle Lead Poisioning”
Yeah that one's really a gem
Or “Minecraft ‘TOO MUCH TNT’ Mod Showcase IN REAL LIFE! - Orphanage Meltdown”
0:59 I was wearing my headphones, and I thought someone actually knocked on the door. I JUMPED SO FAR IN THE AIR.
same!
same
i was a few seconds away from that part and it's 1 am in the morning. you saved my life
𝗛𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗸𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘀𝗽𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗱.
that door sound effect always gets me lmao
our nasally purple man still draws breath?! OH PRAISE THE LORD !!
nasally is crazy 😭
3:18 such a missed "OH MY PC" moment
15:08 i REQUIRE that as a world generation mod
please😭🙏
Me too 😔
SAMEEEEEEE
Wonderland (horror mod) have it
Me and my friends started building a sandstone pyramid with a square base of 495x495 blocks after completing a smaller pyramid. We never finished it but we got really close, like at least 3/4 done. It’s just human nature to build a big pyramid.
solid or hollow?
@TheNecronons oh hollow definitely. There wouldn’t be enough sand in the whole desert to build a solid one. We quarried sandstone out from the desert hills so those are hollow too.
i really hope you are egiptian.
@astroturfisadude what
@astroturfisadude I don’t think there is a single Egyptian with a name even close to Matthew Kendrick, but that just goes to show that pyramid building is a cultural universal.
Ty for showing your hole 14:30
tru
It’s so beautiful 🤩
I'm scared of big things only when i'm at the bottom like i'm at the base of a skyscraper
looks like rent's due
LOL
:(
"Everything is connected" Realising the effects of this in the real world is like solving the unsolvable puzzle.
Worst part is knowing he's right but not knowing how, like I really do get very similar feelings from liminal spaces and megalophobia
He himself is probably not aware exactly how. You would know you are right when you see the connection, like it's so obvious to you but can't explain it. It's not that rare of an ability but not common either.
there is no antimemetics division.
He's back in a MEGA way! So happy your channel has grown so BIG! I missed you so MASSIVELY!
get out
I see what you did there friend
pyrocynical drooling rn
mega? like the file sharing software?
did,, did you just say massive,, you know what else is massive,,?
my type of megalopholia is actually fear of large things. whales, planes, boats... if it moves and is large i am FAR away from it
10:23 HOUSE MD MENTIONED 🗣️🗣️🗣️‼️‼️
Imagine using dr. House as measurement for human
I started watxhing this video bc I finished watching house and got sad, and then this😭
@ dude same!! Been putting off the last few episodes bc I didn't want it to end 😔😔
What the Hell are you talking about 🧐🤨
I definitely experienced some megalophobia during this. For me, it feels kinda like a "weak" background panic attack, where I can feel my heart tensing up, but my mind is still clear. I feel like it's closer to a variation of awe than pure panic attack
It is like a tightening in your chest as you struggle to comprehend what you are looking at
holy shit grow up.
It kinda triggers my fight or flight - I get panicky and slightly dizzy. Once I took a wrong turn into a power plant and had to drive right next to the cooling towers and my god it was intense
Lol
the holes were unsettling enough to be megalophobic. And a couple of these, especially that last inverted pyramid, looked like some alien structure touching down
2:04 that is literally the sea eater from Trevor Henderson
why is this video so masterfully crafted and for some reason kinda beautiful?
absolutely one of the most unique and in my opinion best Minecraft videos I’ve seen in years
the humor is perfect in quantity and it feels like there was genuine fun had making this
its thrite
Appreciate it, glad you enjoyed
I had the exact same thought. Fidelity is good, there's little to no filler, the humour adds rather than subtracts from the experience, the narration is clear and easy to follow.
It also sits in just the right place between "completely unedited Minecraft build showcase [Unregistered Hypercam 2]" and "film student trying to turn his Minecraft build into an award winning documentary/video essay"
Fr, I have no idea who this guy is and now i want to watch all of his stuff. Has my ideal sense of humor
Edit: also reading that notepad doc of all the video ideas was the hardest id laughed in a while
@Thr1tethrite do parasite mod
9:41 reminds me of a dream I never had.
The only reason Megalophobia would work for me is because it doesn't look like it belongs there, it's very ominous and absolutely unnatural looking.
3:15 hey what’s that smell- OH FUÆÆÆ
eezz
OH MY PC!!!
13:42 How does bro's computer render in all 10 builds at once like that without completely breaking?????? And how did bro make himself a giant at scale with some of them???? Bro's an absolute behemoth
The world is flat for most of these. Less complex than having to render trees,Ores,Mountains, etc. all at very specific coordinates.
@almessasorrow4950 yteah thats the reason
11:35
...the science guy
5:33 infinite pizza ahhh
A couple years ago I tried making a massive multiple thousand block building based off of etienne louis boullee's drawings of concepts he had for architecture. I ended up giving up a week into it, not accomplishing all that much admittedly but I think you've resparked my interest in that, thank you thrite :]]
A couple of years ago I also tried building a massive 1k blocks x 1k blocks wide building and kinda gave up on it, but after a year or so I picked it up again and completed it and I think it was worth it, so I'd highly encourage you to give your build a second try. If you need any advice, feel free to ask ;)

@leafblade19 sybau 💔✌️
That knock coming from the right channel sounded like someone knocking on my window just as the neighbor walked past. I don't think he saw, but he absolutely had a gun pointed at him for a moment.
1:06 knock sound almost gave me a heart attack
I ordered food I literally went to the door to grab it and ran to my room and locked the door after nothing was there because I was already freaked out
Same
11:08 Looks like the cenotaph for Isaac Newton by Étienne-Louis Boullée kinda. That dude had some megalophobic architecture if you're interested.
I thought the same thing.
@infelizpe we should kiss
We were Kings and Things
I was about to comment the exact same thing, when noticed yours, man of culture!
a few people here mentioned him and man some of his designs are awesome, thanks for letting me know
this video feels like a facetime w the friend that has adhd
"You will not believe what my inspiration for this one was" while showing various pyramid pictures was so fking funny for no reason
how is your editing hitting every single dopamine receptor in my brain istg I couldn't breathe when that chicken in the maze came up
fr tho
Sometimes i wonder if my spider ever gets megawhateverthefuck when it looks at me
I agree with what you said at 0:54. I think all three of those things are related because they create a feeling of powerlessness. You cannot leave the hell that is the backrooms, cannot escape the mental deterioration of dementia, and cannot do anything against an object so large. It’s like the fear of death. Death is so scary because it lasts forever. Death is inescapable, unstoppable, and HUGE.
I’ve died in dreams lots of times and the sensation of dread feels just like megalophobia
That’s deep
Mirage ultrakill
@Dhou_witMassive one could say
11:36 the science guy
Some of your creations were so big you couldn't even tell the usual minecraft cubic shaping anymore, honestly I'd want the pyramid one as a poster
I would want the thumbnail as a poster it just looks so mesmerizing
9:09 - Sometimes “joke” is itself a pretty funny joke
6:59 OH NO NOT THE LEFT TOWER
I got flashbanged by PTSD Ultrakill vibes at 4:17 ☠
9:46 this building gave me chills for some reason well done bro
7:31 quite possibly the most beautiful thing ive ever seen on Minecraft
I am having a headache kind-like watching it
that looks sick as shit oh my god, i would stay up there my whole life
10:18 maxwell jumpscare
RAAAAAHHHHH
YO ITS PUNISHING BIRB
@Mizuzuzuzuzuzu GO BACK TO SLEEP
King Von cat
THATS NOT MAXWELL, THATS UNI, MY GOAT!!11!1!
I wish I had the introspective melancholy version of megalophobia instead I see big things and I’m like oh no I’m a field mouse and it’s gonna get me
0:23 only members of greg will know what im referencing
Dinky gorgonzola? Or is that drew gooden? I can't tell gang, but all I know, is I'm truly Greg
@COYI_WHU its dg 😎
@thefuturerex0197 they're all dg, everywhere I look is dg, everything I say I dg, I am the dg 😎
@COYI_WHUWE are dg 😎
What's up Greg?
8:17 has somebody mentioned it looks like the hole from Made in abyss? Imagine it could be a big project with those 6 levels of deepness
I thought the same the moment I saw a big hole
whenever i look at the gap between thrite uploads, i get megalophobia
i had headphones on and that knock at 1:00 scared the actual life outta me
11:30 bro just casually builds newtons cenotaph
13:35 some random cuh is gonna see this and go 'ong herobrine threw a paper airplane at my world"
everytime I go to the bathroom I get megalophobia.
lol
Build 10 made my stomach drop in the best way
I have megalophobia but when it comes to images it's very specific and they don't always trigger me. The pyramid one somehow got me the most. Specifically the last couple clips
yeah same I'm quite specific with what triggers mine. I think when he stood at the top of the Burj khalifa was my strongest one. would've gotten me more if he stood close to the bottom and looked up at the top
@ayjayce Yeah looking up at tall buildings/objects always gets me irl
I have megalophobia too and it's kinda ironic, because i love architecture and Skyscrapers lol.
3:17 "Ohhh my PCCCCCCCC"
the hole instantly gave me THE FOREST vibes
I wouldn't call it fear, but... im definitely uncomfortable
7:25 made me feel things
Mostly fear of heights for me, but definitely also some megalophobia
What's the music he is using here?
I need to see a massive spaceship just like these builds have it just hovering over the world, dear god would that be terrifying
Sounds like Independence day
This happened last week lmfao
0:13 bro is in windows xp 💀

I think there's an environment like this in Digital Devil Saga 2.
13:14 [screams geometrically]
Tbh the chicken in the maze scared me the most
14:44 put a huge glowing sphere suspended in the top of the towers, preferably purple or pink, like a wizard orb or something lol
